Judson H. Hazen

Judson H. Hazen, 89, of Stroudsburg, died Monday in the home of his daughter in McMichaels.
He was the husband of Verna Kay (Mackes) Hazen. They had observed their 55th wedding anniversary in July.
Born in Dunmore, he was a son of the late Raymond and Beulah (Smith) Hazen.
A 1926 graduate of the Powell School of Business in Scranton, he was employed by the Lackawanna Railroad. At the time of his retirement in 1973, he was Roadmaster of all Erie Lackawanna track in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania with headquarters in Scranton.
He was a member of the American Railway Engineering Association and a life member of the American Railway Supervisors Association.
He was a charter member of the Christian Life Assembly of God in Stroudsburg and an honorary member of the Deacon Board.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Judson Hazen of Stuart, Fla.; a daughter, Joan M. Hayes of McMichaels; a brother, Raymond Hazen of Maplewood; three sisters , Gertrude Gillette of Lake Ariel, Eva Mann of Zephyr Hills, Fla., and Betty Baldwin of Waymart; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday from the Kresge Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Puleo officiating. Burial will be in Buena Vista Cemetery, Brodheadsville. A viewing will be held on Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

George W. Bryan
November 2, 1998
George W. Bryan, 74, of East Stroudsburg, died Monday, November 2, at the Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of the late Sarah Jean (Talley) Bryan.
He was born in New London, a son of the late Samuel and Irma (Isaacs) Bryan. He had been a resident of East Stroudsburg for the past 12 years and prior to that of Pike and Bucks Counties. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps; having served during World War II as a staff sergeant. He was a prisoner of war for 15 months in Germany. He was a member of the Reformed Church of America.
Prior to his retirement in 1986, he was employed by Hughes Printing Company in the shipping and receiving department for 9 years; prior to that he was employed as a maintenance man for the Bucks County Community College for 5 years. He was a member of the Feasterville Volunteer Fire Company; an avid bowler and was a little league baseball coach for the Lower Southampton Athletic Association.
He is survived by two daughters , Deborah J. Harris of Bushkill and Laura E. Vazquez of Leisure City, Fla.; a son, Dennis N. Bryan of Doylestown; two sisters , Ruth Cocciolone of West Grove and Mildred Gill of Coatesville; a brother, James Clyde Bryan of West Grove; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services and interment will be held on Saturday, November 7, at 2 p.m. in the Union Hill Cemetery, Kennett Square, with the Rev. James Thomas officiating.

Katie Camareri
November 1, 1998
Katie Camareri, 100, formerly of Linden Avenue, Bangor, died Sunday, Nov. 1, in Manorcare Health Services, Palmer Township, where she was a guest for three years.
She was the widow of Joseph Camareri, who died on Feb. 6, 1975.
Born May 8, 1898, in Bangor, she was a daughter of the late Leonardo and Jennie (Pinto) Anicola.
She had been employed as a cook by the former Alviris Candy Kitchen, Bangor, before retiring. Prior to this she was employed by various garment mills in the Slate Belt.
She was a lifetime member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Roseto. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Bangor American Legion.
On her 100th birthday, she received a special birthday plaque from Pope John Paul. She received various citations and commendations from senators and congressmen. She also received birthday greetings from President Clinton.
She is survived by four daughters , Katie Hower of Easton, Jennie Cassidy of Bethlehem, Mary Shaffer of Allentown and Gloria H. Hennard of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sons , Lawrence Commareri of Mount Bethel and Joseph Camareri Jr. of Bangor; 29 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Julia Marx, and two sons , Albert and Leonard. Six brothers , Frank, Mike, Anthony, Dominick, Joseph and Leonard; and two sisters , Rose DeBerardinis and Julia Anicola, all died earlier.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday from the Hough Home for Funerals Inc., 207 Market St., Bangor, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Third and Garibaldi avenues, Roseto. Interment will be in the Old Parish Cemetery, Roseto. Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Betty M. Marsh, 73, of E. Main Street, Pen Argyl, died Thursday in Easton Hospital.
Born in Pen Argyl, September 19, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Donald J. and Emma Shaplin Marsh.
She was last employed as a floor worker for the former R & R Toy Factory, Pen Argyl.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Pen Argyl.
She was a 1943 graduate of Pen Argyl High School. She attended Temple University and Churchman's Business College.
She was a member of Pen Argyl Women's Democratic Club and the Pen Argyl Alumni Association.
She is survived by a brother, Weston S. Marsh of Pen Argyl; two nieces; a nephew; and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Monday, October 26, 1998, at 11 a.m. at the Guerro & Ruggiero Funeral Home, 126 E. Pennsylvania Avenue, Pen Argyl. There will be a viewing Sunday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Pen Argyl.

Lorna Shiffer Jagers, 87, of East Stroudsburg, died Wednesday in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of the late Joseph T. Jagers who died on March 29, 1981.
Born on December 16, 1910, in Brodheadsville, she was the daughter of the late James F. and Sallie (Searfoss) Shiffer and had lived in the area all of her life. She was a teacher in Tobyhanna and Roxsbury Township where she was head of the English Department.
A graduate of Pen Argyl High School and East Stroudsburg State Teachers College, she was a member of the East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two stepdaughters, JoAn Rehrig of Lehighton and Daris Groener of Pocono Manor; a brother, Leon F. Shiffer of East Stroudsburg; four step grandchildren; eight step great grandchildren; and eight step great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Phyllis Hamill; three brothers , John Shiffer, James F. Shiffer, and David F. Shiffer; and a sister Mary Weckerle.
Private funeral services will be held on Monday at 1:30 p.m. in the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg, with the Rev. Raymond Poortstra officiating. Burial will be in the Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg.
There will be a viewing on Monday from 1 to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Wilbur C. Bisbing, 80, of East Stroudsburg, died on Thursday, November 12, 1998 in Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of the late Jennie (Counterman) Bisbing.
Born in Tannersville, a son of the late Walter and Eda (Bogert) Bisbing. He was a life long resident of Monroe County.
Prior to retirement in 1979, he was employed by the former Trader's Hardware in East Stroudsburg for 20 years. His former employment was with the former Textile Mill in East Stroudsburg.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II and was a member of the George N. Kemp American Legion Post #346 in East Stroudsburg. He was also a member of the CLU Club in East Stroudsburg and a life time member of the Stroud Township Volunteer Fire Company.
He is survived by two daughters , Christina Silfee of East Stroudsburg and Patricia Fabel of Effort; five sisters : Leola VanWhy of Henryville, Anamae Miller, Olivia Widmer, and Carolyn Labar, all of East Stroudsburg; and Norma Jean of Florida; four brothers : Robert Bisbing, Laurence Bisbing, Gordon Bisbing, and Daniel Bisbing, all of East Stroudsburg; and nine grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Maralina Fish.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 16, 1998 at 1:30 p.m. in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, with Rev. Dr. Edward C. Kimes officiating.
There will be a viewing on Monday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
Committal will take place in Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg, with Rev. Dr. Edward C. Kimes officiating.

Charles V. Brock

Charles V. Brock, formerly of 29 Kinney Avenue, Mount Pocono, died Saturday, Dec. 19, at Newton Memorial Hospital, Newton, N.J.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Arthur and Helen (Dack) Brock.
Charles was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, a life member of the Pocono Mountain Volunteer Fire Company, and the chairman of the fire company's carnival for more than 20 years. He also served on the school board along with various borough committees in Mount Pocono.
He was employed as a supervisor for 7-Up Bottling Company for many years. He opened B&B Amusements and Brock's Luncheonette in Mount Pocono in 1952, and sold the business in 1971. He then worked in real estate throughout the Poconos until his retirement in 1981.
He is survived by a son, Jerry Brock of Andover, N.J.; a daughter, Bonnie Bouika of Mount Pocono; and a sister-in-law, Janice Lane of Mount Pocono, whom he raised from her youth; three grandchildren, Sean Brock, Melissa Johnston and Stacey Olson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Brock, and a brother, Gordon Brock.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Dec. 23, at 10 a.m. at the Bolock Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg. There will be a viewing on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m.

Dr. Joseph P. Vesce, 73, of Stroudsburg, died Monday at home. He was the husband of the late Tina (Arestia) Vesce who died in 1997.
Born on November 4, 1925 in New York City, NY, he was the son of the late Fiori and Concetta Vesce and had been a part-time resident of the area since 1966, moving here permanently in 1992. He was a general practitioner in Brooklyn retiring from Victory Memorial Hospital.
He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by a son, Joseph Vesce, Jr., husband of Melissa of Bartonsville and a host of friends.
There will be a visitation on Wednesday from 3-5 p.m. and 7-8:30 p.m. with prayer services conducted by Father Henry E. Zapotocki at the William H. Clark Funeral Home 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg. Entombment will be on Thursday in the Mountainview Mausoleum, East Stroudsburg.

Marie Stettler, 75, of East Stroudsburg, died on Monday, December 21, 1998 in Laurel Manor, Stroudsburg. She was the wife of the late Gordon H. Stettler.
Born in East Stroudsburg, a daughter of the late Dalton and Laura (Armitage) Plattenburg. She was a life long resident of Monroe County.
She and her late husband were former owners and operators of the Sky-Hi-Lodge in Marshalls Creek for 20 years. She attended the Wooddale United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a son, Larry Stettler of Bangor; a daughter, Anne Marie Morris of Plains, Va.; four grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 1998 at 1:30 p.m. in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, with Rev. Raymond Poortstra officiating.
There will be a viewing on Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
Cremation will take place in Arlington Crematory, White hall.
Committal of Cremains will take place at a later date in Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg.
