Leroy J. "Ike" Kleinle Jr.

November 24, 1998

Leroy J. "Ike" Kleinle Jr., 78, of Stroud Township, died on Tuesday, November 24, 1998 in Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Virginia A. "Ginny" (Heimbach) Kleinle at home. The couple has been married for 48 years.

Born in East Stroudsburg, he was a son of the late Leroy J. Sr. and Elizabeth G. (Garden) Kleinle. He was a lifetime resident of Monroe County.

He was employed as a printer until retirement in 1983. He was currently employed as a part-time staff member for the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, East Stroudsburg.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps serving in the Pacific during World War II. He was a member of the East Stroudsburg Presbyterian Church serving on the Board of Deacons for many years. He was also a member of the J. Simpson Africa Masonic Lodge #628 in Stroudsburg.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Carol L. Kleinle of Stroudsburg, a son and daughter-in-law, Mark P. (Cindy R.) Kleinle of Lock Haven; two grandsons, Aaron R. Kleinle of State College, and Seth R. Kleinle of Ocean City, N.J.; a sister, Virginia Arndt of Stroudsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 28, 1998 at 11 a.m. in the East Stroudsburg Presbyterian Church, 55 Smith Street, East Stroudsburg, with the Rev. James Lyman officiating.

A Masonic Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the East Stroudsburg Presbyterian Church.

There will be a memorial visitation following the Masonic service until the time of the memorial service in East Stroudsburg Presbyterian Church.

Cremation will take place in the H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg.

Committal of cremains will take place in Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg immediately following the services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Building Fund of the J. Simpson Africa Lodge #628, Main Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360 or to the Little People's Research Fund c/o St. Joseph's Hospital, Towson, Md. 21204.

Lucinda "Cindy" Gayle Altemose

November 24, 1998

Lucinda "Cindy" Gayle Altemose, 44, of Saylorsburg, died Tuesday, November 24, 1997 at her home. She was the wife of Amzie Altemose at home. They had been married 8 years.

Born in Frankfort, Mich., she was the daughter of Lester L. Pettis Sr. and Marilyn L. (Bender) Pettis of Saylorsburg.

She had been a bus driver for the Pleasant Valley School District for over 10 years.

She had attended Empire Beauty School in Allentown, and had been a licensed beautician for over 20 years.

She was a member of MiddleCreek Christian Church in Kunkletown.

In addition to her husband Amzie, and her parents, she is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Palmieri of Saylorsburg; a sister, Rebecca Laponuke of Bushkill Center, Nazareth; six brothers : Lester L. Pettis Jr., address unknown; Scott Allen Pettis of Effort; Gary Pettis of Nazareth; Todd M. Pettis of Saylorsburg; Jody B. Pettis of Bellville, Ill.; and Shawn R. Pettis of Saylorsburg; and one grandson, Robert Palmieri of Saylorsburg.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 28, 1998 at the Donald N. Gower Funeral Home, Inc., Route 209, Gilbert, with the Rev. Frank Robatin officiating. Interment will take place on Sunday, November 28, 1998 in the Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge, N.J. Viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family in trust for Robert Palmieri, P.O. Box 316, Saylorsburg, PA 18353.

Eugene Harold Cochran Jr.

November 24, 1998

Eugene Harold Cochrane Jr., 84, of Mount Pleasant, S.C., died Tuesday in a local hospital. A memorial service will be held Friday, November 27, 1998, in Sunrise Presbyterian Church at 4 o'clock. Interment will be private.

Mr. Cochrane was born in Irvington, N.J., a son of Eugene Harold Cochrane and Edith Halsall Cochrane. He graduated from Mercersberg Academy and Muhlenberg College in Pennsylvania , 1938. He served as a Lieutenant in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of Olivet Presbyterian Church, Rotary International, and was active in the Boy Scouts. He was a member and president of his local school board for over 20 years.

Surviving are his wife, June Merwarth Cochrane of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; a daughter, Pamela C. Tisdale of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; a son, Eugene H. Cochrane III of Earlsville, Md.; a step-son, David Davies of Philadelphia; a sister, Edith Williams of Hightstown, N.J.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Florence Welton

November 24, 1998

Florence Welton, 79, wife of Norman Gray Welton, died November 24, 1998 at Mercy Hospital, Port Jervis, N.Y. The had been married and lived in Hemlock Farms for more than 29 years.

Born in Detroit, Mich.,she was a daughter of Mary and David Bernstein and step-mother of Mark Welton.

She worked as a bookkeeper for Janus Films in New York. She was a professional photographer and many of her pictures of black bear, deer and wildlife were printed in papers around the world. She was the official photographer of the Hemlock News for 20 years.

Florence and Norm were avid Duplicate Bridge players, where she was noted for her sense of humor, and ran their own Bridge Club in Hemlock Farms for 17 years.

She was a Director and Treasurer of the Pike County Soil and Conservation District for 15 years. In Hemlock Farms she was Treasurer of the Library for 20 years; President of the Women's Club; charter member of the 50-Plus Club; and served on many of the community's committees.

Both of the Weltons helped to start the Hemlock Farms Ambulance Co. in 1969, and its Fire Co. two years later.

Florence was a Kidney Dialysis Patient for the past 17 months at the Milford Center. She was deeply appreciative of the incredible amount of help she received for over 25 years from medical workers, both professional and volunteer!

At the request of the family no services are planned, and there will be a cremation.

Donations may be made to the Hemlock Farms Library, the Hemlock Farms Volunteer Fire & Rescue Co., and the National Kidney Foundation.

Willard Bogart

November 22, 1998

Willard Bogart, 79, of East Stroudsburg, died Sunday at the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Barbara P. (Myers) Bogart to whom he had been married for fifty-seven years.

Born on August 14, 1919, in Marshalls Creek, he was the son of the late George and Udella (Fish) Bogart and had lived in the area all of his life. He had worked as a welder for thirty-two years for the International Boiler works in East Stroudsburg and then for Herbert R. Imbt, Stroudsburg for twelve years retiring in 1992. He was a member of the International Boiler Makers Union.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, George Bensley.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Cremation will take place in the H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bushkill Emergency Squad, Bushkill, PA 18324 or to the Marshalls Creek Volunteer Fire Company, Marshalls Creek, PA 18335.

November 19, 1998

Harry G. Eppley, 74, San Francisco, Calif., died Thursday, November 19, 1998.

He is survived by his wife, at home; a son and two daughters ; and a step daughter.

Born in Larksville, in 1924, he was the son of the late Jessie M. and William J. Eppley.

In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by brothers Daniel J. Eppley and Thomas Eppley; and a sister Thelma Severson.

He was a graduate of East Stroudsburg High School in 1942. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served 20 years. He retired as chief petty officer, machinist mate.

A military service will be held in his honor.

Robert K. Christiansen, 57, Bushkill, died on Tuesday evening at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Carol (Peragallo) Christiansen, at home.

Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Edward and Margaret (Baker) Brown.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Frederick Christiansen of South Amboy, N.J.; five daughters , Peggy Pak of Rockaway, N.J., Marie Christiansen of Milford, Pa., Robin Raffensberger of East Stroudsburg; Pattie Smeltz of Tannersville, and Barbra Christiansen, at home; two brothers , Richard Christiansen of Lake Hopatcong, N.J., and Edward Brown of Guttenberg, N.J.; five sisters , Margie Ferderigos, of Fort Lee, N.J., Pat Ensmann of Guttenberg, N.J., Florence Rutledge of Garfield, N.J., Edna Altonso of Miami, Fla., and Cathy Burke of North Bergen, N.J.; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Frederick Christiansen, and a sister, Arlene Riccie.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 14, at 8 a.m. at the Thomas Funeral Home, . Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, N.J.

There will be calling hours on Thursday, November 12, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and on Friday, November 13, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 8:30 p.m. from the Thomas Funeral Home.

Memorial donations should be made to the American Cancer Society, RD #2, Box 2138, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.

Anthony "Dutch" Figliole

November 9, 1998

Anthony "Dutch" Figliole, 93, of Division Street, Bangor, formerly of Saylorsburg, Monroe County, died Monday afternoon November 9th in Easton Hospital, where he was a patient for 1 day.

He was the husband of Loveday (Palmer) Figliole, who died on January 22, 1986.

Born August 19, 1905 in Bangor, he was a son of the late Pasquale and Maria (Yannuzzi) Figlioli.

He and his late wife co-owned and operated the former Palmer Insurance Agency, Pen Argyl, for over 25 years, retiring in 1978.

Of the Catholic faith, he served as a surgical technician in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II. He was a former member of the Marconi Social Club, Roseto.

Survived by one niece and one nephew. Preceded in death by a sister, Mary Figlioli; and 2 brothers , Joseph and Daniel Figlioli.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday from The Hough Home for Funerals, Inc., 207 Market Street, Bangor. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Bangor. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Elhannan LeRoy Keller

November 9, 1998

Elhannan LeRoy Keller, 84, of Effort died on Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, in Brookmont Health Care Center, Effort. He was the husband of the late Anna F. (Snyder) Keller.

Born in Shamokin, he was a son of the late Elhannan LeRoy and Rachel Ann (Edwards) Keller. He was a resident of Monroe County for the past 13 years. His prior residence was in Shamokin.

He was employed as a salesman for Sears Roebuck Co. in Bloomsburg for nine years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving as a supply sergeant during World War II. He was a member of the Shamokin Elks Club and the Mount Pocono United Methodist Church.

He is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Keller of Pocono Lake; two sons , Elhannan L. Keller of Tobyhanna and Gary E. Keller of Williamsport; and six grandchildren.

Private graveside funeral services will be held in Northumberland Memorial Park Cemetery, Stonnington. There will be no viewing.
