Claude J. Price

November 10, 1998

Claude J. Price, 86, of Canadensis, died Tuesday at his home, he was the husband of Esther Eggerstorfer Price, at home.

Born in Canadensis, the son of the late Joseph S. and Clara Carlton Price, he was a Conservationist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, where he had been employed for 37 years.

Claude was a 1934 graduate of the Pennsylvania State College.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Carol M. Price of Canadensis; a son, Dale J. Price of Columbia, Md.; two sisters , June Young and Hazel Guthrie, both of Canadensis; a brother, Ned Price of Telford; and two grandsons, Douglas and Andrew Price.

He was preceded in death by a brother Reeve Price.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

James H. Frutchey, Sr.

November 11, 1998

James H. Frutchey, Sr., 88, of Tobyhanna, died Wednesday at home. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn H. Frutchey. They celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on May 20, 1998.

He was born in Wilkes-Barre, the son of Lloyd and Anna Frutchey. He was a graduate of Forty Fort High School and Cleveland Air School.

During World War II, Mr. Frutchey was employed as a tool and dye maker for the Sun Ship Building Co. in Chester, Pa. He was a partner of Media Lawn Equipment Co. from 1945 to 1951. In 1952, he opened the Frutchey Hardware Store, the first hardware store in Tobyhanna.

He was supervisor of the Tool Room at Weiler Brush until his retirement in 1975. After his retirement, he worked part-time at American Hardware in Mount Pocono.

He was a member of the Tobyhanna United Methodist Church and the Tobyhanna Conservation Association. He was also a life member of the Coolbaugh Township Volunteer Fire Co., a former member and past President of the Tobyhanna Lions Club, and a consultant for Monroe County Vocational Technical School.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, James H. Frutchey, Jr., of Tobyhanna; a daughter, Suzanne Olechnicki of Enfield, Conn.; a brother, Thomas J. Frutchey of Fairport, N.Y.; a sister, Elizabeth Maconaghy of Cornwall, Pa.; four grandchildren, Lori Yocum of Tobyhanna, James H. Frutchey, III, of Tobyhanna, Xan and Kasia Olechnicki of Enfield, Conn.; and three great-grandchildren, Robert James, Kaitlin Mae and Allayna Marie Yocum of Tobyhanna.

The Rev. Joan Pacocha of Tobyhanna United Methodist Church will conduct a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of Routes 940 and 390 in Mount Pocono. Interment will follow at St. Paul's Cemetery in Swiftwater. Friends may call on Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Tobyhanna United Methodist Church, Tobyhanna, PA, or to Lehigh Valley Hospice, 1273 N. 9th Street, Stroudsburg, PA, 18360.

Janet D. Frutchey

November 21, 1998

Janet D. Frutchey, 61, of Stroudsburg, died Saturday, at home.

Born in Newton, N.J., Mrs. Frutchey lived in Newton until 1966, then lived in Hackettstown for 22 years before moving to Stroudsburg in 1988. Mrs. Frutchey was a member of the Warren County, Sussex County, and Stroudsburg V.F.W.'s, American Legions, and Elks Clubs.

The daughter of the late William R. and Ann Hall Stewart, Mrs. Frutchey was also predeceased by her husband, Raymond Frutchey, in 1989, and one sister, Marilyn Headley, in 1990. She is survived by one daughter, Joann Bunnell; one grandson, Jonathan Bunnell; one granddaughter, Jacquelyn Bunnell; and one nephew, Wayne Headley.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton, N.J. Interment in Newton Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

November 22, 1998

Vincent James Gallo Jr., 46, of Forks Township, died November 22, 1998, in Lehigh Valley Hospital in Cedar Crest. He was the husband of Mary Ellen (Banko) Gallo, to whom he was married for 16 years on August 28, 1998.

Born May 9, 1952 in Wilson Boro, he was the son of the late Vincent James Sr. and Florence (Moser) Gallo.

He was a graduate of Easton Area High School class of 1970 and of East Stroudsburg University class of 1977 with a bachelor of arts degree in communication.

He was sales manager at Banko Beverage Company of Allentown and a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Easton.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Tony at home; a daughter, Megan, also at home; and a sister, Susan Gallo of Allentown.

Calling hours will be Tuesday after 7 p.m. at the Alfonso D. Morello Funeral Home, 201 South Twelfth Street, Easton, with services Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, 9:30 a.m., St. Anthony of Padua Catholic church, 9th and Lehigh Streets, Easton. Entombment in St. Anthony's Mausoleum in Williams Township.

November 23, 1998

Jane A. Spirko, 79, formerly of Stroudsburg, died Monday afternoon in her son's home in Edwardsville.

Born on March 24, 1919 in Stroudsburg, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Leila ( White sell) Albert and had lived all of her life in Stroudsburg before moving to Edwardsville to live with her son two months ago. She had worked for the E.A. Bell Insurance Company, East Stroudsburg for many years.

A graduate of National Park College in Forrest Glenn, Md., she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Stroudsburg.

She is survived by a son, Stephen Albert Spirko of Edwardsville, who described her as "the Worlds most wonderful mom"; and a sister, Kathryn Mullins of Stroudsburg.

Private graveside memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family at Stroudsburg Cemetery. Cremation will take place in H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg.

Jane's son Steve would like to thank his many friends and the Wilkes-Barre VNA Hospice for all of their help and support during his mother 's illness.

Felix Federowicz

November 24, 1998

Felix Federowicz, 85, of Swiftwater, died Tuesday, in Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Eve, who died in 1988.

Born in Jamaica, Long Island, N.Y., he was the son of the late Felix and Stauislowa (Kawior) Federowicz. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served as a corporal in the United States Army. Prior to his retirement in 1975, he was employed at American Beverage, where he was a foreman on the loading docks.

He is survived by three daughters : Marie Mattone of Deer Park, N.Y.; Janet Miller of Swiftwater; and Deborah Zuk of Long Island City, N.Y. He is also survived by one sister, Anna Rupprecht of Port Richie, Fla.; fourteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Felix was preceded in death by two sons , Frances and Ronald.

Friends may call on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at James M. Hook & Co. Funeral Directors, 35 Sterling Road, Mount Pocono.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 9 a.m. at St. Mary of the Mount in Mount Pocono. Monsignor Arthur J. Kaschenbach will officiate. Interment immediately following at Calverton National Cemetery, Long Island, N.Y.

Rosa M. Shupp

November 23, 1998

Rosa M. Shupp, 93, of Wills Point, Texas , and formerly of Gilbert, died Monday in Terrell, Texas .

She was the wife of the late Russell Shupp, who died in 1989.

Born May 1, 1905, in Tatamy, she was a daughter of the late George and Emma Elizabeth (Getz) Meixsell.

She had been an elementary school teacher in the Pleasant Valley School District for 29 years, retiring in 1970. She started teaching in one room schools and in the latter part of her teaching career she was the principal at Chestnuthill Elementary in Brodheadsville, and later at Eldred Elementary in Kunkletown. Prior to teaching, she organized the cafeteria for Polk High School in Kresgeville.

She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Gilbert, where she had served in a number of ministries throughout her life.

She was a graduate of East Stroudsburg State Teachers College and a past president of the American Legion Post 927 Ladies Auxiliary in Gilbert.

She had moved to Wills Point from Gilbert in January of 1998.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Clark and Louise Shupp of Wills Point; a son-in-law, Wilbur Kresge of Gilbert; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary "Molly" Kresge; a grandson, Dennis C. Kresge; three brothers : Russell Meixsell, and Ralph and Lloyd Mackes; and five sisters : Mae Smale; Emma Van Husen; Mary Nicholas; Hannah Shupp; and Beatrice Anewalt.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday from Salem United Church of Christ in Gilbert, with the Rev. Michael Eckroth officiating. Burial will be in Buena Vista Cemetery, Brodheadsville. Calling hours will be on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service in the church.

November 21, 1998

Grover I. Hay, 79, of RR5 Saylorsburg, and formerly of Bartonsville, died Saturday in the Northeastern PA Veterans Center, Scranton.

He was the husband of the late Jacqueline Hay.

Born in Brodheadsville, he was a son of the late Ira and Olive Hay.

He had owned and operated Hay's Produce in Bartonsville for 40 years before retiring in 1990.

He was a World War II Army veteran.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He is survived by a brother, Claude Hay in Florida.

Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. on Friday from the Kresge Funeral Home, with American Legion Chaplain Larry Lutz officiating. A viewing will be held on Friday from 7 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Willard Bogart

November 22, 1998

Willard Bogart, 79, of East Stroudsburg, died Sunday at the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Barbara P. (Myers) Bogart to whom he had been married for fifty-seven years.

Born on August 14, 1919, in Marshalls Creek, he was the son of the late George and Udella (Fish) Bogart and had lived in the area all of his life. He had worked as a welder for thirty-two years for the International Boiler works in East Stroudsburg and then for Herbert R. Imbt, Stroudsburg for twelve years retiring in 1992. He was a member of the International Boiler Makers Union.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, George Bogart.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Cremation will take place in the H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bushkill Emergency Squad, Bushkill, PA 18324 or to the Marshalls Creek Volunteer Fire Company, Marshalls Creek, PA 18335.

Fred Ward "Jack" Brown

November 24, 1998

Fred Ward "Jack" Brown, 84, of Albrightsville, died Tuesday, November 24, 1998 at Weatherwood Nursing Home in Weatherly.

He was the husband of Reba (Hodgson) Brown. They had been married 64 years on November 24.

Born in Laceyville, he was the son of the late James O. and Frances (Ward) Brown. He had been a supervisor for Public Service Gas and Electric in Jersey City, N.J., for 38 years until his retirement in 1974.

He was a member of the Pocono Lake United Methodist Church in Pocono Lake. He also was a member of the Young at Heart Senior Citizens of Kresgeville, and the former Penn Kidder Seniors.

In addition to his wife Reba, he is survived by a daughter, Nancy, wife of Charles Tyburski of Canton, Ohio; a son, James W. Brown of White Haven; a brother, Ronald W. Brown of Lake Helen, Fla.; three granddaughters: Christy wife of John Callinan of Westfield, N.J.; Stacey, wife of Andrew Quarles of Flower Mound, Texas ; and Jennifer Tyburski of New York City; one grandson, David Tyburski of California; and three great-grandchildren: Eleanor M. Callinan; Charles J. Callinan; and Audrey C. Callinan, all of Westfield, N.J.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, November 28, 1998 at the Donald N. Gower Funeral Home, Inc., Route 209, Gilbert, with the Rev. Blaik Westhoff officiating. Closed casket visitation will be held 1:30 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
