Albert H. Bryant, 77, of Stroudsburg, died Thursday in his home. He was the husband of Vi (Saunders) Bryant with whom he had celebrated 56 years of marriage.
Born on April 9, 1921, in West Avon, Conn., he was the son of the late John and Alice (Stilwell) Bryant and had lived in Maine for over 50 years until moving to Stroudsburg in August 1997.
He was a retired businessman and was also a veteran of the United States Marines having served during World War II.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Harmony, Maine and the Masonic Lodge of Cambridge, Maine.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons , Jon D. Bryant, and his wife Teri, of Stroudsburg, and Jay P. Bryant, and his wife Susan, of Upper Marlboro, Md.; a sister, Ruth Tudhope of Avon Park, Fla.; five granddaughters; and two great-grandsons.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday from the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg, and also on Saturday, November 21, 1998 at 2 p.m. from the First Baptist Church of Livermore Falls, Livermore Falls, Maine. Cremation will take place in the H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg.

Margaret L. "Peggy" Rogers

Margaret L. "Peggy" Rogers, 58, of East Stroudsburg, died on Friday, October 23, at home. She was the wife of Paul H. Rogers, at home.
She was born in Norristown, a daughter of the late Wesley and Peg (Heard) Smith. She had been a resident of Monroe County for most of her lifetime. She was a member of the East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church, a member of the Dorcas Circle and the Sunday School Class.
Prior to her retirement in 1987, she was employed as a Registered Nurse by the Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg for 27 years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by 2 sons , John W. Fetherman of East Stroudsburg and James L. Fetherman of Marshalls Creek; 3 step daughters , Deborah of Indiana; Cathie of Milford, and Marsha of East Stroudsburg; 2 step sons , Steven of Tannersville and John of Bushkill; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 27, at 11 a.m. in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Raymond Poortstra officiating.
Interment will be in the Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Monday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Alma E. Schaller

Alma E. Schaller, 66, of Stroudsburg, died on Saturday at her home. She was the wife of Richard J. Schaller at home.
Born in Livingston, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Donald and Ruth (Hockin) Hogrelius.
She moved to Stroudsburg at the age of three and was raised by the late Harry and Alma Mader. She was a 1950 graduate of Stroudsburg High School.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons , Daniel P. Schaller and Scott R. Schaller, both of Marshalls Creek; three grandchildren, Matthew, Allison and Keri; one brother, Thomas Hogrelius of Berkley Heights, N.J.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Hogrelius, and a sister, Ruth Rees.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at noon at the Thomas Funeral Home, with Irving Sommer officiating. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
A viewing will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Melvin "Mello" White
December 16, 1998
Melvin "Mello" White , 48, of Mount Pocono, died Wednesday, December 16, at Pocono Medical Center. He was born in Philadelphia, the son of the late Thomas and Lucinda (James) White of Philadelphia.
He graduated from Ben Franklin High School in Philadelphia, and was a member of Morris Brown A-M-E Church. He was also a United States Marine Corps veteran.
For the past ten years, he as a waiter at Mount Airy Lodge in Mount Pocono. Prior to his job at Mount Airy, he worked at many other area resorts. Mello loved jazz and enjoyed spending time with his friends. He will be sadly missed by his friends and co-workers.
Mello is survived by three brothers , Allen, Walter, and Gregory White of Philadelphia; an aunt, Ruth Prince of Philadelphia; six nieces and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William White , also of Philadelphia.
The Reverend Paul Stevenson from Paradise Valley Baptist Church will conduct a funeral service at 9 a.m. on Monday, December 21, at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of Routes 940 and 390, Paradise Valley. Interment will follow at Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg. Friends and relatives may call on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mary M. Arnold
December 16, 1998
Mary M. Arnold, 97, of Stroudsburg, died Wednesday evening in Laurel Manor, Stroudsburg. She was the wife of the late Joseph Makovsky and the late Earl A. Arnold.
Born on August 15, 1901 in Naples, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Donato and Ursolina Pape and had lived in the area since 1917. She had worked in the Silk Mill in Stroudsburg and also the American House retiring in 1964.
She was a member of St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church, Stroudsburg; the Ladies Auxiliary of the Pocono Memorial Barracks World War I Veterans; and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Thomas P. Lambert Post #2540 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Stroudsburg.
She is survived by a daughter, Josephine Sabatine of Bangor; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg, with Father Thomas McLaughlin officiating. Burial will follow in the Stroudsburg Cemetery
There will be a viewing from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Shirley J. Sovak

Shirley J. Sovak, 77, of Stroudsburg died Friday, December 18, in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of John J. Sovak Sr., with whom she had celebrated 58 years of marriage.
Born in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Murray D. and Camile C. (Liebler) Smith. She had lived in the Stroudsburg area for the past 30 years and prior to that lived in various areas throughout the country while serving the military. While serving the United States Army, she taught Nursery School for many years. She also was a teachers aid at the East Stroudsburg School District for many years.
Shirley was a member of St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church of Stroudsburg and a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels of Monroe County. She was also a member of the Antoine Dutot Museum and Gallery of Delaware Water Gap.
She enjoyed quilting and she loved to give of herself by making special handmade gifts for her family and friends.
In addition to her husband, John, she is survived by a son, John (Jack) J. Sovak Jr. of Ellenville, N.Y.; a daughter, Amy L. Nesd of Bethlehem; six grandchildren: Laura, Christine, William, Jean, Jennifer, and JoAnn; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Dec. 21 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church in Stroudsburg, with the Rev. Father Thomas D. McLaughlin as celebrant. Burial will be in the Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg.
Visitation will be on Sunday, December 20 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, and on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass at the church.

Josephine "Dolly" Shandra

Josephine "Dolly" Shandra, 71, of East Stroudsburg, died on Thursday, December 17, at the Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of Peter Shandra, at home. They had been married for 30 years.
She was born in Belleville, N.J., a daughter of the late Joseph Grillo. She had been a resident of Monroe County for the past 12 years and prior to that of Bloomfield, N.J. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church of Marshalls Creek.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters : Joann Thomas of Clinton, Me; Linda Brandis of Warwick, R.I.; Deborah Hayden of Boonton, N.J.; five sons : Herbert "Ronnie" Grillo of Central Falls, R.I.; Phillip Shandra of West Caldwell, N.J.; Ross Shandra of Clark, N.J.; Peter Shandra of New Jersey; and John Shandra of Parsippany, N.J.; a sister, Esther Buring of Belleville, N.J.; a brother, Joseph Grillo of Parsippany, N.J.; 12 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters , Ann and Mary.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 21, at 10 a.m. in St. John's Catholic Church, Route 209, Marshalls Creek, with Monsignor Kevin O'Neill as the celebrant.
Cremation will take place in the H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg. There will be no viewing.

Anna Canfield, 61, of Hackettstown, N.J., died Thursday, December 17, 1998 at her residence. She was the wife of the late Robert Canfield who died in 1990.
She was born on Jan. 13, 1937 in Wanswerd, The Netherlands, the daughter of the late Ernest and Hanna Pen Noordenbos.
She was employed in the accounting department of M&M Mars in Hackettstown, N.J., for 36 years until retiring in 1994.
She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Hackettstown, N.J.; M&M Mars Retirees; Warren Wheelers Square Dance Club; and the Elder Hostel Social Group, all of the Hackettstown area. She enjoyed bowling.
She is survived by a son, Randall Canfield of Hackettstown, N.J.; two daughters , Cheryl Canfield and Mary Marchicelli, both of Hackettstown, N.J.; one step-son, Robert Canfield of Hackettstown, N.J.; one step-daughter, Colleen McLean of Saylorsburg; two brothers , Marcus Noordenbos of Broadalbin, N.Y., and Andrew Noordenbos of Fredon, N.J.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

William J. "Ob" Oberdick, 86, of Camp Hill, died Thursday at Manor Care Health Services, Camp Hill.
Retired General Sales Manager for the Phoenix Steel Corporation and also retired from the Commonwealth of Pa.
He was a graduate of the William Penn High School and the Harrisburg Academy.
He attended Temple University and graduated from Dickinson College, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and a member of the Raven's Claw Senior Honorary Society. During his prep school and college years he played football and basketball.
He was an outstanding player on William Penn's mythical 1928 State Champion team, and was a leader of Dickinson's undefeated football team in 1937. After college he was line coach for two years at Harrisburg Academy.
He was a Marine Corps Veteran of World War II.
He was a member of Harrisburg Chamber of Commerce; West Shore Country Club; the American Iron and Steel Institute; Sales Executive's Club of Greater Harrisburg serving as a past president; Trinity Lutheran Church, where he had served on it's church council.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Bricher Oberdick of Camp Hill; a son, William J. Oberdick Jr. of East Stroudsburg; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Monday at the Myers-Harner Funeral Home in Camp Hill. Burial will be in Rolling Green Memorial Park in Camp Hill. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday.

George F. Brady, 83, of Effort, died Thursday, December 17, 1998 at the Allied Skilled Nursing Home in Scranton.
He was the husband of the late Lillian A. (Osmundsen) Brady who died in November 1996.
Born in New York City, N.Y., he was the son of the late Thomas J. and Edna M. (Alt) Brady.
He had worked as a Personal Administrator for Con-Edison in New York City for 51 years retiring in 1980.
He was a decorated World War II Army Veteran having served in the Pacific Theater.
He was of the Catholic Faith.
He is survived by a sister, Edna Amato of Flushing, N.Y., and several nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held 8:30 a.m. until 9 a.m., Saturday, December 19, 1998 at the Donald N. Gower Funeral Home, Route 209, Gilbert.
Graveside services will be held 12 noon Saturday, December 19, 1998 at Pinelawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Farmingdale, Long Island, N.Y., with the Rev. Edward J. Callahan officiating.
