Clayton Eckley

Clayton Eckley, 85, of Blakeslee, died Friday in the Brookmont Health Care Center, Effort.
He was the husband of the late Elsie (Wrick) Eckley.
Born in Albrightsville, he was a son of the late Adam and Amanda (Miller) Eckley.
He had been a heavy equipment operator for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 542 for 50 years, retiring in 1975. Clayt started work as a waterboy when Route 903 was constructed in the 1930's, and later operated graders and bulldozers on road construction projects in southeast and northeast Pa., including the Pa. turnpike and tunnel projects, the Baltimore Tunnel, the N.J. Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway. He also operated the crane that lifted the containment cap on the reactor for the Susquehanna Nuclear Power Plant in Berwick.
He was a member of the Blakeslee United Methodist Church.
He had been a supervisor in Tunkhannock Township for several years.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Clifton, N.J.
He is survived by a daughter, Ellen, wife of Lewis Davis of Swiftwater; a brother, Chester Eckley of Lehighton; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a twin brother, Clinton Eckley; brothers , Arch, Adie, and Isaac Eckley; and sisters , Eva Getz and Pearl Rehrig.
Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family from the Blakeslee Cemetery with interment to follow. There will be no viewing.

Mary M. Jubin

Mary M. Jubin, 71, of East Stroudsburg, died Friday morning in her home.
She was the wife of the late William T. Jubin who was a volunteer for the Schoonover House in Bushkill.
Born on March 26, 1927 in Orange, N.J., she was the daughter of the late James and Grace (Colombo) Petrucelli and had lived in the area for the past ten years, moving here from Livingston, N.J., where they had lived for thirty-five years. She had a love for the outdoors and fishing.
Surviving are three daughters : Donna M. Scala, wife of Charles Getz of Pittsburgh; Gail Ann Jones, wife of Richard Jones of Parsippany, N.J.; and Robin Jubin Sommers, wife of Chris Sommers of Bushkill; two granddaughters, Jessica Marie Brown of Keansburg, N.J., and Tiffanyann Anna Sommers of Bushkill; two great-grandchildren, Katlin Cassandra Romano and Anthony Michael Romano; two brothers , James Petrucelli of Toms River, N.J., and Peter Petrucelli of Nokomis, Fla.; two sisters , Jenny Silva of Hillside, N.J., and Rose Stocker of Lake Lackawanna of New Jersey; and several nieces and nephews.
Private services will take place at the convenience of the family with cremation taking place at the H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the VNA Hospice of Monroe County, RR 5, Box 5169, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301.

Edna S. Armstrong

Edna S. Armstrong, 77, of Buck Hill Falls, died Wednesday at home. She was the beloved wife of Russell Armstrong at home.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Herbert G. and Charlotte (Clegg) Steinberg.
Before retiring, she was the owner and president of Cresshill Rubber Co. in Englewood, N.J. She was also employed as a legal administrator for Lowenstein and Sandler Law Firm in Roseland, N.J., and an economic advisor to the New Jersey Bar Association.
She was a graduate of Teaneck High School and the Katherine Gibbs School in Boston. She was a member of St. Bernadette's Catholic Church in Canadensis.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Edna Bonsal of Cork, Ireland, formerly of Short Hills, N.J., and Denise and John C. Garbarino Sr. of Buck Hill Falls; two sisters , Charlotte Morton and Shirley Arvidson, both of Venice, Fl.; six grandchildren, Michael, David and Laura Jean Pisani, John C. Garbarino Jr., Denise M. Garbarino II, and Alice Caitlin Hurdle; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dennis J. O'Brien, who died in 1948 and a brother, Herbert Stevens.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Alfred Vito at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Bernadette's Catholic Church in Canadensis. A private burial will take place Monday in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Tenafly, N.J.
There will be a viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the Bolock Funeral Home, rts. 940 and 390 in Mount Pocono.
Memorial donations may be made to the Visiting Nurses Association of Monroe County, 500 Independence Drive, East Stroudsburg 18301.

Edwin "Curly" Miller Jr.

Edwin "Curly" Miller Jr., 71, of Hawley, died Tuesday in Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale.
Born on January 23, 1927 in Paradise Valley, he was the son of the late Edwin, Sr. and Mary (Price) Miller and had lived in Hawley for the last twenty years, moving there from East Stroudsburg. He had worked for the Borough of Hawley doing street work.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the American Legion in Hawley.
He is survived by a son, Edwin, III of Craigville, Ind.; a daughter, Wanda of Florida; three grandchildren; two sisters , Gladys Dailey of Stroudsburg and Joyce Mosier of Minisink Hills; a brother, Kenneth Miller of Cresco; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Emma Wolbert of East Stroudsburg.
Graveside memorial services with burial will be on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg, with Rev. Robert McGann officiating.

Joseph Garrity, 70, of Blakeslee, formerly of St. Columba Parish, Philadelphia, died October 24, 1998.
He was the son of the late John and Mary (Quinn) Garrity.
He is survived by two brothers , Jack Garrity of New Jersey and Bill Garrity of Lebanon; two sisters , Eleanor Merget of Cheltenham and Tina Murphy of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a sister, Mary Turner.
Relatives and friends are invited to call after 10 a.m. Thursday at Christ the King Church, Blakeslee and to his Funeral Mass 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m., Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham.

James P. Itterly, 69, of Bangor, died Monday evening in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, after being stricken at his residence. He was the husband of Katherine (Emrick) Itterly, with whom he celebrated 41 years of marriage last Nov. 10th.
He was born January 13, 1929 in Nazareth, a son of the late Harrison and Irma (Raesley) Itterly.
He was employed by the former Design Techniques of Pen Argyl, retiring in 1993.
He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, James Jr. of Lehighton; a daughter, Christine Calabrese of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and one grandson, Ian Calabrese. He is preceded in death by a brother, Harrison Jr.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in St. Vincent de Paul's Cemetery, Portland. There will be no calling hours.

Helen L. Shultz, 94, of Stroudsburg, died Tuesday morning in her cottage at Laurel Manor Nursing Home, Stroudsburg. She was the wife of the late Ernest R. Shultz who died September 27, 1998.
Born on February 2, 1904, in Morgantown, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Clarence T. and Sara (Miller) Lemon and had lived in Monroe County since 1968 moving here from Wynnewood, Montgomery County.
A graduate of State College High School, she attended the Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Stroudsburg, where she was a deaconess.
Surviving are a son, Edgar R. "Dick" Shultz of Cherry Hill, N.J.; five grandchildren: Dan, Jenifer, Tom, Richie and Gaylea; and one great-grandson.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church of Stroudsburg, with the Rev. George Taylor and Rev. Carol Brown officiating. Private burial will take place in Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg.

Derek Alan Osinski Sr.
October 24, 1998
Derek Alan Osinski Sr., 31, of Long Pond, died Saturday, October 24, 1998 in Scripps Mercy Hospital, San Diego, Calif., from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Orban) Osinski and son, Derek Alan, Jr., at home.
Born on August 6, 1967 in New Brunswick N.J., he was the son of Eugene Osinski of Bradenburg, Ky., and Jane (Kasperek) Osinski of Woodbridge, N.J., and had lived in Long Pond since 1992 moving here from Somerset, N.J.
He received an Associate's Degree from Brookdale Community College in 1989. He worked as an ADE Certified Mechanic for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for twelve years before taking his present position as an Auto Insertion Technician at Transistor Devices, Inc., in Hackettstown, N.J. He also taught auto mechanics at night at the Monroe County Vo-Tech.
In addition to his wife, son, and parents, he is survived by a sister, Mary Hochkeppel of Centreville, Va.; two brothers , Donald Osinski of Saylorsburg and David Osinski of Piscataway, N.J.; maternal grandmother, Tillie Kasperek of Depew, N.Y.; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday, November 1, followed by memorial services at 2 p.m. in the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg. A Memorial Mass will also be held on Monday, November 2, at St. Mary of the Mount Roman Catholic Church in Mount Pocono.

Funeral services for Josephine Westbrook Hoffner will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 11 a.m. in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Harry Laubach officiating.

Paul "Chub" Williamson, Jr.
October 26, 1998
Paul "Chub" Williamson, Jr., 68, of Knowlton Township, died Sunday at Easton Hospital in Easton.
Born in Easton, Mr. Williamson was a longtime resident of the Vail section of Blairstown Township before moving to the Hainesburg section of Knowlton Township two months ago. Mr. Williamson served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954. He worked in the shipping and receiving department of Macy's Department Store in Allentown before his retirement. Mr. Williamson was a member of Blairstown Lodge #165.
The son of the late Paul Williamson, Sr., Mr. Williamson is survived by his mother , Dorothy Williamson; four brothers , Donald Williamson of Mansfield; Joseph Hurd Sr. of Portland; Albert Muhs of Watertown, N.Y.; Frederick Fritz of Easton; and a sister, Barbara Werkheiser of Knowlton Township.

Detlef G. Hoppe, 48, of East Stroudsburg, died on Saturday, October 24, at the Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg.
He was born in Germany; a son of the late Erich G. and Elfriede (Gramms) Hoppe. He had been a resident of Monroe County for most of his lifetime.
He was employed by U.S. Steel of East Stroudsburg for the past 5 years; prior to that by Liz Claiborne of Mount Pocono and prior to that by Kulp's Foundry in East Stroudsburg.
He is survived by two sons , Christopher E. Hoppe and Jonathan P. Hoppe, both of Stroudsburg; a sister, Regina E. Dickerson of East Stroudsburg; two brothers , Carle E. Hoppe of East Stroudsburg and Horst W. Hoppe of Pen Argyl; a half-brother, Klaus Trabandt of Berlin, Germany; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside memorial services and burial will be held on Saturday, October 31, at 11 a.m. in the Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg, with Pastor Gail E. Kees officiating. There will be no viewing.
