Karen A. Coates, 56, of Leisure Lands, died on Saturday, Oct. 17, 1998, in her home. She was the wife of the late Alan D. Coates.
Born in Irvington, N.J., she was a daughter of the late Frank McKenna and Anna (Lazauskas) McKenna of Red Bank, N.J. She was a resident of Monroe County for the past 10 years, prior to that of Red Bank, N.J.
Karen and her late husband, Alan, were truck drivers, leasing from Transcontinental Refrigerated Lines in Pittston, driving their own rig cross country for five years.
In addition to her mother , she is survived by a brother, Frank McKenna of Palm Springs, Calif.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the O'Brien Funeral Home, Wall, N.J. Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service in the funeral home.
Entombment will take place in St. Catherine's Cemetery, Wall Township, N.J.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lehigh Valley Hospice, 1273 N. Ninth St., Stroudsburg, PA 18360.

Mark Hoffman
October 18, 1998
Mark Hoffman, 25, of Pocono Lake, died Sunday, Oct. 18 as a result of an automobile accident. He was the cherished son of his mother , Janet (Tarbert) Hoffman and John; and his Father , Harry Hoffman and Sue.
Born in Abington, he was a self-employed craftsman. He graduated from Neshaminy High School, and attended East Stroudsburg University.
He was the brother of Denise Aroniss, brother-in-law of Bob Aroniss, devoted uncle to Christopher, Amanda, Sean, and Megan Aronnis, all of East Stroudsburg. Paternal grandparents are Helen Lopez of St. Petersburg, Fla., Harry Hoffman Sr. of Cresco; and maternal grandmother, Violet Tarbert of Feasterville. Mark was also a nephew, cousin, and buddy to many friends, and his faithful dog Deila.
Family and friends are invited to share in the celebration of his life on Saturday, October 24, at the Bolock Funeral Home, Corner of Routes 940 and 390 in Mount Pocono. Visiting hours will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Remembrances of Mark will begin at 1 p.m. and will be officiated by Rev. John Charnock of Mount Pocono United Methodist Church.
Mark's body will be returned to the earth at the convenience of the family. His spirit will live in their hearts forever. Because of Mark's love of the earth, the family asked that you please either plant a tree in Mark's memory or make a donation to any group that would preserve our environment.

Beatrice Mae Laesser

Beatrice Mae Laesser, of Englewood Fla., formerly of Stroudsburg, died Monday, October 19, 1998, in Venice Hospital, Venice, Fla.
On November 9, 1935 she married the late Edward H. Laesser Sr., who died on May 30, 1981. The couple celebrated 45 years of marriage prior to his death.
Born on June 14, 1913, in Cherry Lane, Pocono Township, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Grace (Anthony) Hallett. She was a life long resident of Monroe County and a 1933 graduate of Pocono Township High School.
Along with her husband, she was the co-owner and co-founder of the former Laesser Paper and Supply Co. of East Stroudsburg, from 1956 until her retirement in 1995.
She is survived by a son, Edward H. Laesser Jr. of Englewood, Fla.; a nephew, Todd Cortright and wife Pam of Watsontown, Northumberland County; a grand nephew Barrett Cortright and grand niece, Ashley Cortright, both at home. She was predeceased in death by her only sister Helen Cortright, who died September 15, 1997.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 23, at 2 p.m. at the Cherry Lane Methodist Cemetery, with Rev. Catherine Horn officiating.

Josephine Westbrook Hoffner

Josephine Westbrook Hoffner, 85, of Kanab, Utah; died on Sunday, October 18 at Cane County Hospital in Utah. She was the wife of Chester A. "Chet" Hoffner, at home.
She was born in East Stroudsburg, a daughter of the late Anthony and Florence (Lee) Westbrook. She was a resident of Kanab for the past 7 years and prior to that of Kingman, Ariz. She enjoyed fishing, traveling and camping with her husband and family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Correll D. Smith of Kingman, Ariz.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 28, at 11 a.m. in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Harry Laubach officiating.
Interment will be in the Stroudsburg Cemetery, Stroudsburg. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Elsie Mae Myers
October 17, 1998
Elsie Mae Myers, 104, of Honesdale, formerly of Bushkill, died October 17, 1998 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale following an illness. She was the wife of the late Harold W. Myers.
Born in Shawnee, she was the daughter of the late William and Hattie Walters Trible.
She is survived by three daughters : Lois Walker and Barbara Bogart, both of East Stroudsburg; and Jean Bensley of Dingmans Ferry; a son, Arthur Myers of Hawley; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by three sons , Harold, John and James.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. at the Keokee Chapel in Paradise Valley. Interment in H.G. Smith Crematory in Stroudsburg.

Leta E. Jadick, 74, of Brodheadsville, died unexpectedly at her home on October 21, 1998. Born August 17, 1924 in Stillwater, N.J., to the late Jacob and Theresa Staley Gruver, Mrs. Jadick was a housekeeping supervisor for 24 years with East Stroudsburg University, retiring in 1997. Prior to her employment at the University, she and her late husband, Paul who died in 1988, operated dairy farms, first in Blairstown, N.J., and then in Brodheadsville.
Mrs. Jadick is survived by two daughters , Barbara Watters and Sharon Jadick, both of Brodheadsville; four sisters : Helen Smith and Dorothy Labadie, both of Stroudsburg; Florence Osborne of Florida; and Betty Hezel of Hackettstown, N.J.; three brothers : Harry Gruver of Mansfield, N.J.; and Ernest Gruver and Donald Gruver, both of New Jersey. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Smith and three brothers : Jerry, Jacob Jr., and Gilbert.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 24, 1998 at 11 a.m. from the Newbaker Funeral Home, Route 94, Blairstown, N.J.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in the Cedar Ridge Cemetery, Blairstown.

October 21, 1998
Herbert W. Furman Jr., 79, of Mount Bethel, died Wednesday afternoon in St. Luke's Hospital, Fountainhill Township. He was the husband of the late Bessie (Elston) Furman who died in 1993.
Born on August 6, 1919 in Paterson, N.J., he was a son of the late Herbert W. and Margaret (Keyser) Furman Sr., and had lived in Mount Bethel for the past 25 years.
He was a self-employed antique dealer for the past 60 years and was a member of the National Watch and Clock Collectors Association.
Surviving are a son, Herbert C. Furman of Conway, Arkansas; two daughters , Barbara Goodwin of Stroudsburg and Deanna Scheer of Wilson, N.C.; three brothers , Lloyd Furman of Lake City, Fla.; Lawrence Furman of Newark, Ohio; and Harold Furman of Colorado Springs, Colo.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday from the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg. Burial will follow in Stone Church Cemetery, Mount Bethel.
There will be a viewing on Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Joseph M. Piacenza, 46, of Pine Ridge Estates, Bushkill, died Thursday, October 20, 1998 in his home. He was the husband of Patricia Lepore Piacenza. Born in Newark, N.J., he was the son of Dolores Danduone Piacenza of Bloomfield, N.J., and the late Sam Piacenza. He was a resident of Pike County for the last 12 years, prior to that of Belleville, N.J.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons , Joseph and Jason of California; and Jonathan and Samuel of Bushkill; three daughters , Josette Collopy of California; and Barbara and AnnaMarie of Bushkill; and four grandchildren: Kyle and Domenio Collopy and Jianna and Jaylin Piacenza, all of California.
Also, he is survived by four brothers : Michael, Sammy, Gerard and Nicholas; and five sisters : Linda Dellisant, Donna Erli, Gina Gibbons, Lisa Piacenza, and Raynee Piacenza. He was preceded in death by a brother James Piacenza.
He was a former member of the West Orange Elks, P.B.A., and a member of the Rider Motorcycle Touring Club of Pennsylvania .
Viewing will be held at Megaro's Memorial Home, 503 Union Avenue, Belleville, N.J., from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday; from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday; and 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass at St. Lucy's in Newark. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Arlington, N.J.

Emily O. Olsommer, 82, of Greentown, Pike County, died Thursday, October 22, at her home. She was the widow of Felix Olsommer, who died in 1988.
Born in Glenline, Luzerne County, daughter of the late Reese and Lizzie (Buchanan) Jones, she lived in Greentown for most of her life.
Emily was a member of the Hemlock Grove United Methodist Church, Greentown; Harriet Green Chapter 198-Order of Eastern Star, Lake Ariel; Ladies of Paupack Rebekah Lodge #559, Newfoundland; and the Ladies Auxiliary of Keystone Consistory, Scranton.
Emily is survived by a daughter, Helen O. Leahey of Ormond Beach, Fla.; two sons , Donald E. of Sterling and Ronald F. of Panther; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ella Mae Mirmina of Milford, Conn.; two brothers , Harry Jones of Stratford, Conn., and Evan Jones of Greentown; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by sisters , Catherine and Mary Olsommer and brother Richard Jones.
Funeral services will by Monday, Oct. 26, at 11 a.m. at the Hemlock Grove United Methodist Church, Greentown, with Pastor Robert Allen officiating.
Interment will be in Moravian Cemetery, Newfoundland.
