Alexander Jones, Jr.

August 26, 1998

Alexander "Cheese" Jones, Jr., 45, of Stroudsburg, died Wednesday, August 26, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of Bessie (Rouch) Jones of Stroudsburg.

Born in Lake City, Fla., he was the son of Leila May (Hawkins) Drayton of Stroudsburg and the late Alexander Jones, Sr. He was a resident of Monroe County for the past 30 years.

In addition to his wife and mother , he is survived by a son, Michael Jones of Lake City, Fla.; a daughter, Tasha Reid of Harrisburg; 5 brothers , Leiland Jones, Jerry Jones, Donnell Jones, all of Stroudsburg, LeRoy Jones of Lake City, Fla., and Kerry Jones of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; 3 sisters , Annette Jones and Jackie Richardson, both of Stroudsburg, and Angele Jones of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; 4 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 3, at 11 a.m. in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301. Interment will take place in the Stroudsburg Cemetery.

Family and friends may pay their respects from 9:30 a.m. to the time of the service.

By request of the family, memorial donations can be made to Alexander Jones Memorial Fund in care of the Funeral Home.

Karen L. Cerny

August 25, 1998

Karen L. Cerny, 30, of Mount Bethel, died on August 25, 1998 in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg following a long illness. Born in Newton, N.J., to the late Edward Carpenter and her mother , the former Grace Millheim Carpenter of Townsbury, N.J., she had been a life long resident of the Hope-Knowlton Township, N.J. area moving to Mount Bethel in 1992.

Mrs. Cerny was a computer operator for the First National Bank of Hope, N.J., in their Great Meadow's office. Over the years she had participated in many of area bowling and softball leagues, she was a graduate of North Warren Regional High School in Blairstown, N.J., class of 1986.

In addition to her mother she is survived by her husband, William; two brothers , Sam Carpenter of Easton and Ronald Carpenter of Blairstown, N.J.; six sisters , Nora Drew of Gilbert, Jackie Williams of Belvidere, N.J., Becky Delaney of Maine, Vicki Hummel of Portland, April Benson of Columbia, N.J., and Melissa Carpenter of Portland. Mrs. Cerny was predeceased by her brother Danny in 1986.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 29, 1998, 10:30 a.m. at the Newbaker Funeral Home, Route 94, Blairstown, N.J. Burial will follow in the Johnsonburg Methodist Cemetery, Johnsonburg, N.J. Visitation on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Elizabeth C. Hammond

July 14, 1998

Elizabeth C. Hammond, 93, Stroudsburg, died on Tuesday evening at Laurel Manor in Stroudsburg. She was the wife of the late Harry W. Hammond, who died in 1975.

Born in Woodale, she was the daughter of the late Jules F. and Elizabeth (Hunkin) Charron. She was a lifelong resident of Monroe County.

She worked along with her husband for 35 years with the H.W. Hammond and Son, Inc., in Stroudsburg.

She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Amaranth.

She is survived by a son, Richard Hammond, Stroudsburg; a daughter, Kathleen Woodard, Gates Mills, Ohio; six grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. from the Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North Fifth Street, Stroudsburg, with the Rev. Gail H. Kees officiating. Burial will be in the Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg.

There will be a viewing on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations should be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 9 North Ninth Street, Stroudsburg PA 18360.

Theresa R. Capozzolo-Baird

July 15, 1998

Theresa R. Capozzolo-Baird, 46, of Ridge Road, Bangor, died Wednesday in Easton Hospital, Easton.

She was a Realtor for Century 21 Ray Mraz Realty of Tannersville for the past 4 years and prior to that owned and operated Makin Waves Beauty Salon in Roseto and Bangor for 16 years.

Born October 2, 1951, in East Stroudsburg, she was a daughter of Henry and Ruth Comunale Capozzolo of Bangor.

She was a member of the Church of St. Luke's in Stroudsburg.

She was a member of the Pocono Mountain Board of Realtors, a member of the Million Dollar Club and received many other realtor awards.

She was a 1969 graduate of Bangor High School, a graduate of Stroudsburg School of Cosmetology, the Kree School of Electrolis of Manhattan, N.Y., and a graduate of Scott- White Real Estate School and attended Temple University.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Michael A. Baird with whom she celebrated their 23rd wedding anniversary last October and also a son, Michael H. and a daughter, Shauna M., both at home; 3 brothers , Charles, James and John Capozzolo, all of Bangor and 3 sisters , Lucie Urban of Horsham, Pa., Frances Gabay of Rochester, N.Y., and Margaret Boineau of Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Services will be announced by the Fiore Funeral Home, 3rd & Market Streets, Bangor.

Donald E. Cramer

July 13, 1998

Donald E. Cramer, 50, of Laurel Lake, N.J., died on Monday morning at his home. He was the husband of Lorraine (Henry) Cramer.

He was born in East Stroudsburg, a son of the late Elwood F. and Mildred (VanWhy) Cramer. He had been a resident of Laurel Lake for the past year and prior to that of Stroudsburg.

Prior to his retirement in 1996 due to poor health, he had been employed by Beaufab Mills in Stroudsburg for 28 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons , Steven Cramer of Stroudsburg, Matthew Cramer of Columbia, Md., and Dale VanWhy of East Bangor; three daughters , Angela Cramer of East Bangor, Tara Huber of Stroudsburg, and Dawn Roberts of Bushkill; a brother, Raymond Cramer of East Stroudsburg; two sisters , Sandra Howey of Millville, N.J. and Harriet Fish of East Stroudsburg; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews including Julie Whildon, with whom he resided. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Cortney Page Cramer.

Graveside funeral services and burial will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Stroudsburg Cemetery. There will be no viewing.

The Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg, is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the family in care of the funeral home.

Michael John Saiya

July 14, 1998

Michael John Saiya, 51, of Pocono Lake, died Tuesday in Penn State Geisinger Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre. His wife is the former Gloria (Sidoti) Saiya.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of Anna (Giordano) and the late Colombo Saiya. He served as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion, Floyd Bennett Post in Brooklyn. An active member of the Arrowhead Lake Community, he was a current member of the recreation committee. Prior to his retirement in 1994, he was employed by Nynex of New York.

In addition to his wife, Gloria, he is survived by two sons , Brian and Richard, both at home. Also surviving are three brothers , Frank of Topeka, Kansas; Arthur of Surrey, England, and Edward of Germantown, Md.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the James M. Hook & Co., Funeral Directors, 35 Sterling Road, Mount Pocono.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 9 a.m. at Christ the King Church, Blakeslee. Fr. Raymond Deviney will officiate. Interment will take place at 1 p.m. at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Ft. Indiantown Gap.

Jay W. Cruver

July 15, 1998

Jay W. Cruver, 73, of 440 Miller Street, Bangor, died Wednesday afternoon in Eastwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Wilson Boro, where he was a patient since January.

He was the husband of Patricia (Yerxa) Cruver. The couple celebrated their 52nd Wedding Anniversary last October 7.

Born August 22, 1924, in Pen Argyl, he was a son of the late Ralph and Emma (Bonney) Cruver.

Mr. Cruver was last employed as a part-time courier by PNC Bank, Belfast. Prior to this he was employed by Bangor Cork, Pen Argyl, for 27 years, retiring in 1974. He was also a former Park Manager at Bangor Memorial Park.

He was a member of Mackey Memorial Baptist Church, Bangor and a member of A.A.R.P. He was a 1942 graduate of Bangor High School where he played baseball and basketball. He attended the University of Miami Radio School, Oxford, Ohio. Mr. Cruver enjoyed woodworking and slate. He had pitched quoits for the V.F.W. in the Slate Belt Quoit League.

A Navy veteran of World War II, stationed at Schoodic Point U.S. Naval Radio Station, Maine, where he served as a Radioman Second Class. After his Honorable Discharge, he was notified that he had received the radio transmission that led to the sinking of the Bismark.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by 3 daughters , Bonnie Jaye LaBar of Bangor, Sandra M. Blau of Mt. Bethel, and Melissa A. VanBuskirk of Pen Argyl; 1 son, Barry J. Cruver of Carlisle; 1 sister, Eleanor Cruver of Bangor; 1 brother, Richard Cruver of Mechanicsville, N.Y.; 7 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from The Hough Home for Funerals, Inc., 207 Market Street, Bangor. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Bangor. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial donations should be given to the charity of choice to help homeless and abused children. The Bangor High School Class of 1969 will meet at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Maralina M. Fish

July 16, 1998

Maralina M. Fish, 58, of East Stroudsburg, died on Thursday at the Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of both the late Kenneth P. Hardenstine and the late Moses F. Fish.

She was born in East Stroudsburg, a daughter of Wilbur C. Bisbing of East Stroudsburg and the late Jennie Elizabeth (Counterman) Bisbing. She had been a resident of Monroe County her lifetime.

Prior to her retirement in 1993, she was employed in the housekeeping department of the Fernwood Resorts for 15 years. She was a member of the CLU Club and the Ladies Auxiliary of the George N. Kemp Post 346 American Legion, both in East Stroudsburg.

She is survived by 3 daughters , Tanya Heller of Tavares, Fla., Yvonne Fish of Stroudsburg, and Elizabeth Singer of East Stroudsburg; 3 sons , Kenneth P. Hardenstine of Sciota, LeRoy C. Hardenstine of Tavares, Fla., and Jeffrey S. Hardenstine of Tavares, Fla.; 2 sisters , Christine Silfee of Stroudsburg and Patricia Fabel of Effort; 13 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg, with the Rev. Raymond Poortstra officiating.

Interment will be in the Appenzell Cemetery, Jackson Township. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the services at Lanterman & Allen.

July 19, 1998

Emma V. Mansfield, 64, of Poplar Valley died Sunday in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of Bob Mansfield, with whom she celebrated 43 years of marriage.

Born in East Stroudsburg, she was the daughter of the late Rudolph and Helen (Smith) Pleyer. She was a graduate of the Stroudsburg High School Class of 1952. She was a lifelong resident of the Poplar Valley area and was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church of Poplar Valley, having been church secretary for many years. She was past president of the Board of Directors for Penn State Extension Services. She was a 4-H leader for many years, a past president of the Pocono Mountain Art Group, and was on the Board of Directors of Pocono Area Transitional Housing of Monroe County. She was employed as a secretary for the Harry A. Mullins Insurance Co. of Stroudsburg until her retirement seven years ago.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Timothy J. Mansfield of Cherry Valley; a daughter, Trina Mansfield of Philadelphia; a granddaughter, Lauren Mansfield; and a sister, Joan Meyers of Cherry Valley.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home with the Rev. Samuel Ramnit officiating. Burial will be in the Poplar Valley Methodist Cemetery, Poplar Valley. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services at the funeral home.
