Margaret White

Margaret T. White , 80, of LaBar Village, Stroudsburg, died on Wednesday at the Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of Francis M. White of Stroudsburg, who was an Emeritus Professor at the former Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science, and currently the University of Science of Philadelphia. The couple celebrated 57 years of marriage on June 21, 1998.
Born in Lafayette, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Hazel (Geiseman) Timberlake. She was a resident of Monroe County for the past 10 years. Prior to that, the couple resided in Newfoundland, Pa., for 5 years, and the Philadelphia area for 42 years.
Margaret received her Masters Degree in Education from the University of Penn in 1954. She also received a Bachelors Degree in Science from Purdue University in 1939.
She was a member of the Golden Kiwanis Club of Stroudsburg and LaBar Village. She enjoyed teaching and playing the game of Mah Jong in LaBar Village, Stroudsburg.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, John White of Darby, Pa.; 4 daughters , Margaret W. Kinloch of Ellicott City, Md., Katherine W. Heuck of Laurel, Md., Patricia W. Skean of Glen Mills, Pa., and Susan W. Pasker of Schuylkill Haven, Pa.; 9 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 4 p.m. in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg, with the Rev. Raymond Poortstra officiating.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Saturday from 3 p.m. to the time of the services at Lanterman & Allen. Cremation will take place in the Arlington Crematory, White hall.
At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kiwanis IDD Fund in care of the Golden Kiwanis Club at LaBar Village, Stroudsburg.

Lydia A. Frey, 87, of South Sterling died Wednesday at The Jewish Home, Scranton.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Gustave and Julianna (Litken) Grapatin. She had lived in the South Sterling area for over 80 years.
She was the widow of Charles J. Frey who died in 1957. Together with her husband, they had operated Pocono Mt. Plastic Company in South Sterling until his death and had operated Frey Funeral Home under her widow's license from 1957 until 1960.
A pie baker of some note, she had baked for the Restaurant at Blueberry Hill in South Sterling.
Lydia was a member of the LeAnna United Methodist Church, the Church Choir, official board and WSCS. She was a 50 year member and Affiliated Past Matron of Harriet Green Chapter 198 Order of Eastern Star and a 50 year member and Past Noble Grand of the Ladies of Paupack Rebokah Lodge.
She is survived by two sons , Edwin C. Frey of Scranton and Arthur J. Frey of LaAnna; two sisters , Margaret Kienzle of Honesdale and Edyth Gilpin of South Sterling; ten grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and a nephew, James Gilpin of South Sterling. She was as preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Grapatin.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the LaAnna United Methodist Church, LaAnna, the Rev. Nathan Gilpin, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery, South Sterling. Friends may call Sunday 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Arthur J. Frey Funeral Home, Route 191, LaAnna. Rebekah Services will be held Sunday, 8 p.m., and Eastern Star Services will be held Sunday, 8:30 p.m., both at the funeral home.

Anthony G. Shiner of Blakeslee, died Wednesday at Penn State Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born Nov. 19, 1930, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late George and Mary Shiner.
He was a 1949 graduate of GAR Memorial High School, Wilkes-Barre, and attended Penn State University.
He was a US Marine Corps veteran of the
Korean War.
He was owner and operator of Shiner's Market, Blakeslee for 20 years and was also an electrical contractor.
Before his retirement in 1996, he was employed by Tobyhanna Army Depot for 15 years.
He was a member of St. Anthony's Maronite Church, Wilkes-Barre, and Top-O-Pocono Rotary Club. He was a charter member of the Knights of Lebanon, Wilkes-Barre.
He and his wife, the former Bertha Ellis, would have celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary on Aug. 28.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters , Mrs. Mark (Marilynn) Pelak, Blakeslee; Mrs. John (Zina) Klem, White Haven; Mrs. George (Susan) Jabbour, Middletown, NJ; Janine Shiner, Blakeslee; five grandchildren; sisters , Leona Binkley, Blakeslee; Mrs. Anthony (Angeline) Khalife, Wilkes-Barre; Mrs. Thomas (Jemiel) Grant, Nanticoke; Mrs. Anthony (Suzanne) Petrolonis, East Windsor, NJ; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday from the Mamary-Durkin Funeral Service, 59 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre, with a Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony's Maronite Church, Wilkes-Barre.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Walter L. "Bud" Specht, 88, of Supplee Mill Road, and a winter resident of Lake Wales, Fla., died at 6:45 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 1998, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg, where he was a patient for three weeks.
He was born Aug. 31, 1909, in Milton, a son of the late Alphonso and Annie ( Schmidt) Specht. He was married to the former Audrey M. King for 41 years before her death in 1975. He then married the former Clara R. Marsch with whom he would have celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary Oct. 2.
He worked in the paint department of Northeastern Federal Penitentiary, Lewisburg for 22 years before retiring as a foreman in 1970. Earlier he was employed in the paint shop of New York Central Railroad, East Rochester, NY. He was also employed by Bausch and Lomb Optical Company, NY, during World War II. In the 1930s he was employed by the American Car and Foundry, Milton.
He was a 54-year member of Free and Accepted Mason Lodge 476, Fairport, NY, and a member of the Williamsport Consistory.
He enjoyed woodworking, making and refinishing furniture and clocks, camping, extensive traveling, including cruises, hunting and playing cards. He also helped construct his own home.
He was a member and former trustee of First Baptist Church in Lewisburg.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters , Joanne A. Seese of Canadensis, and Patricia A. Charest of Allenwood; two step- daughters , Charlotte Price of Cresco, and Rita Thomas of Moscow; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; six step grandchildren; and seven step-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers .
A Masonic service will be held by Lewisburg Free and Accepted Mason Lodge 144 at 7 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, 51 S. Third St., Lewisburg. The funeral will be conducted at 7:15 by the Rev. MacKenzie Scott at the church. The committal service will be at 9 a.m. Monday in Lewisburg Cemetery.
Visitors may call from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Stephen Liptak
July 2, 1998
Stephen Liptak, 59, of Effort died Thursday at Pocono Medical Center.
Born in Trenton, N.J., he was the husband of Carol (Farrell) Liptak, who survives him.
They were avid crafters who attended many fairs and functions throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania . He was employed as a Pipe Fitter for Asbestos Worker's Union Local #32 in Newark, N.J. for 35 years.
Surviving, in addition to his wife are his mother , Anna Prook, of Effort; three sons , Sean Liptak of Brodheadsville, Stephen Liptak and Scott Liptak, both of Effort; and two daughters , Carolyn Conry and Cindy Liptak, both of Effort.
Visitation hours will be 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday.
Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Maximillian Kolbe Church in Toms River, N.J. Burial will be in the Ocean County Memorial Park Crematory, Toms River, N.J.

Edwin Stoye, 72, of Effort, died Saturday at the Lehigh Valley Hospital Center in Allentown.
He was the husband of Evelyn (Zito) Stoye. They had been married for 45 years.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of the late Frantz and Marie (Kaufman) Stoye.
He was a cargo agent for British Airways at Kennedy Airport in New York City until his retirement in 1991.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in East Stroudsburg. He was a former member of the Plainedge Baptist Church in Bethpage, Long Island, N.Y. He also sang with the Pleasant Valley Choral Society for the past three years.
In addition to his wife Evelyn, he is survived by two daughters : Janet, wife of Stephen Wickers of Saylorsburg, and Rene, wife of Walter Malskis of Huntington, Long Island, N.Y.; one son: Edwin Stoye, Jr., and his wife Patty of Kennesaw, Georgia; one brother: Carl Stoye of Lancaster and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in East Stroudsburg. Interment will follow in the Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery in Effort.
Viewing will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Donald N. Gower Funeral Home, Inc. and from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in East Stroudsburg.

John Richard Tremolini, 72, of Indian Country, Gouldsboro, died Sunday, July 5, 1998 while at work at Pocono Outdoor World, Swiftwater.
He was the husband of Irene Berrett Tremolini, at home.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Joseph and Stephinia Poleska Tremolini. He had resided in the Lehigh Township area for the past 27 years.
John was employed as a Security Officer for Pocono Outdoor World in Swiftwater.
He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart.
John was a member of Wall Sebring Post 274, American Legion, Gouldsboro.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons , Richard J. of New Jersey and Glenn L. of Gouldsboro; a stepson, Arthur W. Kishpaugh of Atlanta, Ga.; and six grandchildren.
A Wake Service will be held Wednesday evening at 9 p.m. in the Arthur J. Frey Funeral Home, Route 191, LaAnna. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 7 and Wednesday, July 8 from 7 to 9 p.m. Interment will be in Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, N.Y. July 5, 1998
Mary E. Lewis, 72, of Pocono Pines, died Sunday, July 5, in the Brookmont Health Care Center, Effort. She was the wife of Leon N. Lewis at home.
Born in Graham, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late George and Grace (Hook) Lester.
She was a lifelong resident of the Pocono Pines area and was of the Methodist faith. She was employed as a waitress for many years in the Monroe County area.
In addition to her husband she is survived by four daughters , Penny Clark of Mount Pocono, Crystal Alfieri of Upper Lehigh, Elizabeth Dewitsky and Irene Lewis both of Pocono Pines; six grandchildren and one great grandson.
Private funeral services were held at the convenience of the family. Cremation took place at the HG Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg. The Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, 23 North Ninth Street, Stroudsburg was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Alice I. Hoats, 86, of Lehighton, died Sunday morning at the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital in Lehighton. Her husband, Willard C. Hoats died April 17, 1994.
She was a retired mill worker and had last worked for Scotties Fashions in Lehighton. Alice and her late husband owned and operated the Hoats Candy Wholesale Business for many years, and the family business is currently owned and operated by her son and grandson.
She was born in Palmerton and was a daughter of the late Calvin and Elsie (Allen) Bonser. She was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Lehighton.
She is survived by a daughter, Catherine, wife of Clyde Eilenberger of Stroudsburg; and a son, Edward C. Hoats of Lehighton; 6 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sons , Walter Bonser, John Hoats, and Willard Hoats; a daughter, Joyce Hoats; and a brother, Robert Bonser.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 8, at 2 p.m. at the Mayes-Melber Funeral Home, 200 Franklin Street, Weissport, with the Rev. Harry W. Keppler Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the Franklin Heights Memorial Park Cemetery, Franklin Township, Lehighton. Call Wednesday, 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. time of services.
