Hester R. Keiper

June 25, 1998

Hester R. Keiper, 70, of Pocono Lake, died Thursday in East Mountain Manor Nursing Home, Wilkes-Barre.

She was the wife of Donald E. Keiper, at home. They had observed their 49th wedding anniversary in April.

Born in Allentown, she was a daughter of the late Warren and Mildred (Lentz) Lenhart.

She was a member of the Community Bible Church in Pocono Lake.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons , Warren D. Keiper of East Stroudsburg, David A. Keiper of Gouldsboro, and Timothy D. Keiper of Pocono Lake; two daughters , Ellen M. Larson of Saylorsburg and Roxann D. Eiler of Pocono Pines; two brothers , Milton Lenhart of Kunkletown and Harvey Lenhart of Live Oak, Fla.; two sisters , Mildred Henry of Silver Springs, Fla., and Viola Lenhart of Philadelphia; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday from the Kresge Funeral Home, Route 209, Brodheadsville, with the Rev. Robert Brown officiating. A viewing will be held on Monday from 12 p.m. until the time of the services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Bible Church, Route 940, Pocono Lake, 18347.

Parke W. Kunkle, Sr.

June 23, 1998

Parke W. Kunkle, Sr., 85, Stroudsburg, died on Tuesday at his home. He was the husband of Mary (Harvey) Kunkle, at home.

Born in Stroudsburg, he was the son of the late Honorable E. T. and Ida (Serfass) Kunkle. He was a lifelong resident of Monroe County.

He was a 1932 graduate of Stroudsburg High School, serving as Class President during his senior year. He was the recipient of the Egbert Medal, as was his son, Parke, Jr., in 1964. He attended Penn State University.

He was associated with LeRoy Mikels as a car salesman. In 1950, he purchased Pocono Automobile Company on North Ninth Street. He had the car franchise for Packard, Studebaker, Mercedes Benz and Jaguar. In 1969, he bought Meyer's Furniture Store in East Stroudsburg. He retired from business in 1980.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club, Auto Dealers of Monroe County, and Pocono Mountain Boy Scouts. He was recipient of the Lehigh Valley Order of the Arrow.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and served as secretary of the vestry.

In addition of his wife, he is survived by twin children, Susan Jancerak of Roselle Park, N.J., and Parke W. Kunkle, Jr., of Minneapolis, Minn.; two grandsons, Craig and Kevin Jancerak of Roselle Park, N.J.; a sister, Charlotte Kresge of Nashville, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen K. Nace.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg.

There will be no viewing.

The Thomas Funeral Home, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial donations should be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 9 North Ninth Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.

Michael D. Saganich

June 21, 1998

Michael D. Saganich, 84, of Mount Pocono, died Sunday, June 21 in Pocono Medical Center after an illness. His wife is the former Susan Ruffini.

Born in Flint, Michigan, he was the son of the late Daniel and Anna (Glad) Saganich. Prior to his retirement in 1970, he was a mushroom farmer.

In addition to his wife, Susan, he is survived by two sons : Michael of Tucson, Ariz., and David of Conestoga; a brother, William of Lincoln University; two sisters , Betty Sterlacci and Ann Kucich, both of Long Island City, N.Y.

Friends may call on Wednesday evening, June 24 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the James M. Hook & Co, Funeral Directors, .

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, June 25 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of the Mount RCC, Mount Pocono with monsignor Arthur J. Kaschenbach presiding.

Interment immediately following at the Prospect Cemetery, Stroudsburg.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary Of The Mount Building Fund, 27 Fairview Ave, Mt. Pocono 18344.

Stanley J. Honey

June 23, 1998

Stanley J. Honey, 63, of Bangor, died Tuesday morning, June 23 in Easton Hospital's emergency room after being stricken at home. He was the husband of Diane (Jones) Honey with whom he celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary on April 21.

Born March 13, 1935 in Pen Argyl, he was the son of the late Stanley and Celia (Worth) Honey.

Mr. Honey was a self-employed concrete contractor for the last 35 years.

He was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bangor where he was a former church board member and a former property committee member.

He was a member of Portland Lodge 311 F&AM and he was a member of the former Bangor Lodge 565 F&AM.

A 32 degree mason he was a member of Lehigh Consistory, Valley of Allentown. He was a committee member of Boy Scout Troop 102 in Bangor. He spent a total of 41 years in scouting and in 1981 he received the Silver Beaver award for distinguished service to youth.

He was a 1953 graduate of Pen Argyl High School and he was an avid hunter and fisherman.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons , Robert J., James, and Stephen J., all of Bangor; one daughter, Sharon B. Honey, of Bangor; four grandchildren, one step-grandson, three step-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Miller Lockard who died in 1997.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, from the Hough Home for Funerals, Inc., 207 Market St., Bangor. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery in Bangor. Friends may call Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and Portland Lodge F&AM will hold Masonic services at 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Boy Scout Troop 102 Memorial Fund, 624 Chestnut St., Bangor, PA 18013.

June 29, 1998

Mary C. Kishpaugh, 96, of Kunkletown, and formerly of East Stroudsburg died Monday at Mrs. Bush's Personal Care Home.

She was born in East Stroudsburg, a daughter of the late Frank H. and Jennie (Plattenburg) Kishpaugh. She had been a lifetime resident of Monroe County. She was a member of the East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church and a 50 year plus member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 99. She was a graduate of East Stroudsburg High School, Class of 1919, and Churchman's Business School.

Prior to her retirement, she was employed by McGraw Edison in East Stroudsburg for over 30 years.

She is survived by 2 nieces, Jean Stenlake of Seneca Falls, N.Y. and Pamela Miller of Elizabethtown, Pa.; a nephew, Richard S. Kishpaugh of Elizabethtown, Pa.; several great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers , Nathan F. "Spider" Kishpaugh and Stanley H. Kishpaugh.

Graveside funeral services and burial will be held in the Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg. There will be no viewing.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg.

At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, P. O. Box 430, Shawnee on Delaware 18356 or to Lehigh Valley Hospice, 1273 N. 9th Street, Stroudsburg 18360.

James H. Lawler

June 28, 1998

James H. Lawler, MSW LSW, 60, 513 Church Street, Jessup, died Sunday evening after a car crash in Monroe County.

Born in Peckville, he was a son of Mary McAndrew Lawler and the late Harold Lawler. He was a graduate of St. Patrick's School, Olyphant, Mount St. Mary's, Maryland, and he obtained his master's degree in social work from Catholic University in Washington , DC. He was also a 1961 graduate of the Army Officer Candidate School and served as a captain in the Army from 1959-1960. He was a commissioned officer in the 109th Infantry, 28th Infantry Division and a captain of the 29th Infantry Division in Virginia and Maryland. He was a member of Headquarters 3rd Infantry Brigade.

He was chief operating officer of the Kirk-Bride Psychiatric Center, Philadelphia. He was former superintendent of Clarks Summit State Hospital and Danville State Hospital, and former director of the Residential Treatment Center of Washington , DC., Department of Public Health. He was also former administrator of the Luzerne-Wyoming County Mental Health and mental Retardation Program. While in this position, he was instrumental in establishing Project Outreach to help victims of Hurricane Agnes. As a result of this work, he became recognized as an expert in the development, implementation and operation of mental health disaster intervention programs. His professional career spanned more than 30 years as a clinician and administrator in the behavioral health industry. He had managed all aspects of the clinical continuum, including serving as area director of mental health for the Northeast Region of Pennsylvania .

He was a member of St. James Church, Jessup.

Surviving are two sons , James, Jr., of Sunderland, England, and Edward of Blue Bell; a daughter, Mauri of Warrington; a brother, Michael, at home; aunts, uncles and cousins.

The funeral will be Friday from the Louis M. Margotta Funeral Home, 511 Church Street, Jessup, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. James Church, Jessup. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Blakely.

Friends may call Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

June 29,1998

Dorothy Hufford, 91, of East Stroudsburg, died Monday at the Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of the late Ellsworth J. Hufford, who died in 1992.

She was born in East Stroudsburg, a daughter of the late John and Mary "Mame" (Staples) Brush. She had been a resident of Monroe County her lifetime. She was a member of the Wooddale United Methodist Church. She was employed as a book binder by Hughes Printing Company for many years. She also worked at many silk mills in the area.

She is survived by a son, Clair Hufford of East Stroudsburg and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg, with the Reverend Drew A. Parsons officiating.

Interment will be in the Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services at Lanterman & Allen.

June 26, 1998

Mrs. Shirley R. (Graver) Ruch, 65, of 105 E. Ruch Road, Lehighton, died Friday at her home. She was the wife of Charles G. Ruch, at home. They had been married 48 years last February.

She was a member of St. John's Towamensing Lutheran Church in Palmerton.

She had been employed for 26 year with the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1993. During that time, she rose to Postmaster of Bowmanstown, Pa.

Born in Leighton, she was the daughter of the late Samuel T. and Anna M. (Stoltz) Graver.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by 2 sons , Larry of Stroudsburg and Jeffrey of Lehighton; 2 sisters , Delores wife of Warren Beltz of Palmerton and Betty wife of Franklin Berger of Slatington; and 5 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Charles S. Ruch.

Memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, at St. John's Towamensing Lutheran Church, Palmerton. Interment will be in Towamensing Cemetery, Palmerton. There will be no calling hours.

Contributions may be made to the memorial fund of St. John's Towamensing Lutheran Church, 2915 Fireline Road, Palmerton 18071.

July 1, 1998

Edwin Brunck, 67, of Newtown, Pa., died on July 1, 1998, at Manor Care of Yardley.

Born in Union, N.J., Mr. Brunck was a year resident of Newtown and a 35 year former resident of Sayerville, N.J.

Mr. Brunck is a retired professional Photographer working for more than 20 years at Empire Photo and Warren Studio in Union City, N.J., and retiring from Fuji Color in Jersey City in 1993.

Mr. Brunck is a life member of the NRA and a member of the Old Bridge Rifle and Pistol Club and a member of the Teamsters Union Local 966.

Mr. Brunck is the son of the late Ernest and Elsie Brunck and he is survived by his daughters and sons -in-law, Lynn and Randy Funckhauser of Newtown, Dale and David Douglass of East Stroudsburg; 2 brothers , Arthur Brunck of Dallas, Texas , and Eugene of New Milford, N.J.; and 4 grandchildren, Wendy Bratsanto of East Stroudsburg and Brenda, Michael, and Kevin Funckhauser of Newtown.

Funeral Services will be held Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Swartz/Givnish Funeral Home, Washington and Lincoln Avenue, Newtown. Interment will be in the Forest Green Park Cemetery on Monday at 1 p.m. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday.
