Leona P. Litts, of Scotrun, died Saturday in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of the late John C. Litts, the former superintendent of Monroe County Schools.
Born on May 27, 1906 in Reeders, she was the daughter of the late Amzi and Florence (Frailey) Price and had lived in Scotrun all of her life. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Scotrun and the Order of the Eastern Star #99 Monroe Chapter.
She is survived by nieces and nephews including Arlene A. Rogers, with whom she resided; a sister, Verna P. Johnson of Reeders; and three brothers , Quentin Price, Ernest Price, and Clair Price, all of Reeders.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the William H. Clark Funeral Home, with Rev. Martin L. Acker officiating. Burial will follow in the Reeders Methodist Cemetery, Reeders.
A viewing will precede the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Harold G. Smith, 74, of Hamilton Township, died on Tuesday, June 23, 1998, in Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. He was the wife of Mary (Brundle) Smith, at home.
Born in East Stroudsburg, he was a son of the late George and Carolyn (Brodt) Smith. He was a lifelong resident of Monroe County.
He worked as a carpenter from age 17 to age 74 in Monroe County. He was of the Christian faith and attended Branham Tabernacle in Jefferson ville, Ind.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Virginia Siptroth Meyers of Stroudsburg, three grandchildren, Susan Meyers of Stroudsburg, Sarah Blakeslee of Gilbert, Steven Siptroth of Mountainhome, and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Tammy Siptroth.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 27, at 1:30 p.m. in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, .
There will be a viewing Friday, June 26, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Lanterman & Allen.
Committal will take place in Larsen's Cherry Valley Cemetery, Stroud Township.

Emma Trento
June 23, 1998
Emma Trento, 94, of Marshalls Creek, died Tuesday, June 23, in the Laurel Manor Nursing Home, Stroudsburg, where she had been a resident for the past two weeks.
She was the widow of Ormisto Trento who died in 1976.
Born in Calabria, Italy, she was a resident of Marshalls Creek for the past year, and prior to that she had lived most of her life in the Manhattan, New York area.
She is survived by a son, Anthony D. Trento, of Marshalls Creek, with whom she resided, seven grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 26, at 10 a.m. from St. John's Roman Catholic Church, Bushkill, with the Msgr. Kevin O'Neil as celebrant. Entombment will be in the St. John's Mausoleum in Queens, New York on Friday, June 26, at 1 p.m.
There will be no visitation. The Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, , is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Smiley, of Taylor, died unexpectedly Monday Morning at CMC. She was the widow of Leonard T. Smiley who died August 12, 1996.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late George and Barbara (Abda) Bolus, attended local public schools in Scranton. She was a 1935 graduate of Scranton Technical High School. She resided in the Stroudsburg area for approximately 20 years. She was associated with her husband in the management of the Smiley Realty Company. She returned to Scranton in 1992 and was a member of St. Joseph Melkite Greek Catholic Church and its Womens Society.
She is survived by, one son, A.J. Bolus, of Taylor; one granddaughter; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by three brothers , Frank, Charles, and George Bolus and two sisters , Ellen Shehwen and Martha Bolus.
Funeral services will be held Thursday from the Carl J. Savino Funeral Home, 157 South Main Ave, Scranton. with funeral service in St. Joseph Melkite Greek Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Lebanese Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Vivian F. Ziegler, 82, of Marshalls Creek, died on Sunday, March 8, 1998, in Brookmont Health Care Center, Chestnuthill Township. She was the wife of Roy J. "Jim" Ziegler at home.
Born in Jersey City, N.J., she was the daughter of the late John J. and Anna (Neumann) Fredericks. She was a resident of Monroe County for the last 22 years. Prior to that she resided in Pompton Plains, N.J.
She was formerly employed as a bookkeeper for New York Telephone in New York City, N.Y., for 10 years and for MacGregor Sportswear Co. in Haskill, N.J. for 8 years.
She was a member of the Mountain Manor Golf Club in Marshalls Creek.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by 2 brothers , John H. Fredericks of Wanaque, N.J., and James E. Fredericks of Indiantown, Fla.; and 4 nieces.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 30, at 12:30 p.m. at the Mountain Manor Club House, Marshalls Creek with the Rev. Steven Sayre officiating.
Interment took place on March 12, 1998 in the First Reformed Church Cemetery in Pompton Plains, N.J.

Anna K. Brown, 77, of Lobb Ave., Pen Argyl, died Monday, June 22, 1998, in Delaware Township, Pike County, as the result of an automobile accident.
Born in Upper Mount Bethel Township, January 31, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Lyman and Annie Hess Kern.
For forty-years she was a first grade teacher for the Bangor Area School District, retiring in 1986.
She was a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church, Pen Argyl, where she taught Sunday school, was a leader of the Youth Fellowship, and was a member of the "Friendly Class".
She was a 1939 graduate of Bangor High School, a 1943 graduate of East Stroudsburg Teachers College, and attended West Chester State College.
She served on the Board of Directors of Slate Belt Nursing and Rehab. Center, Washington Township, and also was a member of the Auxiliary of Slate Belt Nursing and Rehab Center.
She was a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Assoc., the National Education Assoc., the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, the Democratic Club of Pen Argyl, the Pen Argyl Women's Club, the Slate Belt AARP, and the AARP of Stone Church.
She also was on the Bangor Teacher Scholarship Committee, and she played in many Bridge and Pinochle Clubs in the Slate Belt Area.
She and her husband, Willis B., celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary this past July.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Thomas K. of New Milford, Conn.; a daughter, Tammy A. of Bethlehem Township; a sister, Doris Jensen of East Bangor; and two granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by three brothers , Claude, Lyman, and William; and two sisters , Mary Sayer, and Ethel Reagle.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 26 at 10 a.m. at the Guerro & Ruggiero Funeral Home, 126 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Pen Argyl, PA. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Pen Argyl. There will be a viewing Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Bertha May Risley

Bertha May Risley, 89, of Stroudsburg, died Monday in Laurel Manor, Stroudsburg. She was the wife of the late Kenneth L. Risley.
Born on January 9, 1909, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Allen and Catherine (Hood) Paul and had lived in the area all of her life. She had worked at Heck's Silk Mill in East Stroudsburg during World War II. She later worked for Wyckoff's Department Store in Stroudsburg and then as a cafeteria worker for the Stroudsburg School District.
She was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ, Stroudsburg, and a member of the Dirigo Sunday School Class. She was a former member of the Stroudsburg Junior Women's Club and the Women's Club of the Stroudsburgs. A volunteer Gray Lady at the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, she also assisted with the blood drives with the American Red Cross.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara J. Tucker, wife of William of Stroudsburg; a son, Kermit "K" James Risley of Salinas, Calif.; a brother, Robert Paul of Stroudsburg; eleven grandchildren; and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Risley.
Private graveside services and burial were held on Friday, June 19, at 2 p.m. in the Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg, with Rev. Kevin E. Fruchtl officiating.

Myrtle J. Herrmann, 82, of Luther Crest Retirement Community, South White hall Township, formerly of Bronxville, N.Y. and Skytop, Monroe County, died Monday in Luther Crest Health Center. She was the wife of the late Ernest C. Herrmann.
Born in Flushing, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Walter and Alice (Stromgren) Johnson.
A life member of the Bronxville Women's Club, she was a past president of the Wykagyl Country Club Ladies Golf Association, New Rochelle, N.Y. and the Slwanoy Country Club Ladies Golf Association, Bronxville, N.Y.
She was a volunteer and officer of the Nearly New Shop, Mountainhome.
She is survived by a daughter, Dale Herrmann Sack, wife of Donald R. Sack of Skytop.
Funeral services will be private and there will be no calling hours.
Contributions should be made to the Barrett Township Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Mountainhome, or to the charity of one's choice.
