Guy Bergamo

Guy Bergamo of 132 E. Green Street, Hazleton, died Tuesday afternoon at St. Luke Manor, where he had been a patient for the past three weeks.
Born in Mahanoy City, he was the son of the late Anselmo and Mary Domenica (Frank) Bergamo and was a life-time resident of the area.
Mr. Bergamo was a member of Holy Trinity German Catholic Church where he served on the parish council.
He was also a member of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftsman for 75 years. He was an avid bowler in various local leagues and played minor league baseball.
Prior to his retirement, he was a self-employed masonary contractor for 75 years.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his wife, the former Marie Strimpler; a son, Martin; a brother, William; and a sister, Louise Pancheri.
Surviving are children, Mrs. Eugene (Jean) Dolan of Hazleton; Robert of Seneca Falls, N.Y.; Karl of Hazleton; Monsignor John Bergamo, pastor of St. Matthew's Church, East Stroudsburg, and William of Columbus, Ohio; 18 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the Joseph B. Conahan Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hazleton.
Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Alva E. Markham

Alva E. Markham, 91, of Bethlehem and formerly of Mount Pocono and Tobyhanna, died early Monday morning in St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill Township. He was the husband of the late Edna E. (Smith) Markham who died in 1965.
Born on August 2, 1906, in Humbird, Wisconsin; he was the son of the late Byron and Effie (Taylor) Markham and moved from Wisconsin to Pennsylvania in 1952.
He had worked in the hide and fur business in Wisconsin and also at Stanley's Mink Farm in Mount Pocono.
Surviving are four daughters , Lucile M. Smith and Gladys Mosier, both of East Stroudsburg, Pearl Keeler, of Riegelsville, PA, and Gloria Brown, with whom he had resided in Bethlehem; two sons , Laverne Markham, of Allentown, and Leroy Markham, of Neola; 19 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and 6 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons , Harold Markham who died in 1932 and Norman Markham who died in 1988.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday from the William H. Clark Funeral Home, , with Captain Mark S. Mackneer, of the Salvation Army, East Stroudsburg, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery, Swiftwater.
There will be a viewing on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service.

Anastasia "Ann" Smith, 86, of Stroudsburg died on Monday, June 8, 1998 in her home. She was the wife of the late Mr. Smith.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, a daughter of the late Richard Ellen (Erwin) Ferguson. She was a resident of Monroe County for the past 12 years. Her prior residences were in White Haven, PA and New York.
She was employed for many years as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone in New York. She was of the Catholic faith.
She is survived by a sister, Eileen King of Lynbrook, NY and a niece, Eileen King also of Lynbrook, NY.
Funeral services will be private at a later date. There will be no viewing.
Cremation will take place in Arlington Crematory, White hall, PA.

Irene McGlynn, 61, of Stroudsburg died Saturday, June 6, at her home. She was the wife of John McGlynn with whom she celebrated 39 years of marriage.
Born in Maspeth Queens, New York, she was the daughter of the late John and Lillian (Michaels) Sish. She had lived in the Stroudsburg area for the past 3 years and prior to that lived in the Ridgewood, New York area. She was a member of St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church of Stroudsburgs.
In addition to her husband she is survived by two daughters and two son-in-laws: Denise and Enrique Loedel of Lake Valhalla, PA and Doreen and Joseph Perri of Winoma Lake, PA, four grandchildren Isabel, Christopher and Michael Loedel and Rebecca Perri, a niece Patricia Marinelli and two nephews: John and James Bolz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 10, at 10 a.m. from St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church, Stroudsburg with the Rev. Father Carmen Perry as celebrant. Burial will be in the Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, 23 N. 9th St., Stroudsburg.

Leona P. Litts, 92, of Scotrun, died Saturday in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of the late John C. Litts, the former superintendent of Monroe County Schools.
Born on May 27, 1906 in Reeders, she was the daughter of the late Amzi and Florence (Frailey) Price and had lived in Scotrun all of her life. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Scotrun and the Order of the Eastern Star #99 Monroe Chapter.
She is survived by nieces and nephews including Arlene A. Rogers, with whom she resided; a sister, Verna P. Johnson of Reeders; and three brothers , Quentin Price, Ernest Price, and Clair Price, all of Reeders.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the William H. Clark Funeral Home, with Rev. Martin L. Acker officiating. Burial will follow in the Reeders Methodist Cemetery, Reeders.
A viewing will precede the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Oscar Duffield, 74, of East Bangor, died Sunday, June 7 in his home.
He was last employed for the former Blue Ridge-Winkler Textile Mill in Bangor retiring in 1985. Before that he was a coal miner in West Virginia.
Born January 10, 1924 in Ira, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Fleet and Rebecca (Jarvis) Duffield.
He attended the Bangor Church of the Nazarene in Bangor.
He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America.
He served with the US Army during W.W.II in the Tank Division.
He was the husband of the former Betty (Mullins) Duffield of Bangor with whom he celebrated 49 years of marriage last July.
In addition to his wife he is survived by three sons , Larry of Hugheston, W. Va., Michael of Pen Argyl, and David of Mount Bethel; two daughters , Kaye Buckner of Malden, W.Va., and Connie Dietz of Roseto; 2 brothers , Tella and Okla Duffield both of Duck, W.Va.; 4 sisters , Emma Jarvis of Frametown, W.Va., Ina Smith of Looneyville, W.Va., Ada Cottrill of Spencer, W.Va., Mae Jarvis of Saylorsburg; 11 grandchildren, and 1 great grandson.
One sister, Sally Jackson died earlier.
Services will be held on Wednesday, June 10 at 11 a.m. in the James B. Gaffney Funeral Home, 314 South First St., Bangor. Burial will be in the Glasgow Cemetery in Glasgow, W.Va.
Call 10 a.m. until the time of the service in the funeral home on Wednesday.

Frank J. Renaldi, 85, of Hanover Twp., PA, died June 4, 1998, at home.
Born June 24, 1912 in Easton, he was the son of the late Francis and Theresa Renaldi.
Mr. Renaldi owned several businesses. He was the owner of the former Renaldi Service Stations in Easton and Palmer Twp., the former Dairy King Restaurant in East Stroudsburg, and The Town & County Restaurant in Bath. He also was a builder/developer in Plainfield and Bushkill Townships.
He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Ninth and Lehigh Streets, Easton.
He is preceded in in death by his wife Nancy (Tito) who died in 1968; a son, Frank P. Renaldi; a sister, Frances Fillette; and two brothers , Anthony and Joseph Renaldi.
He is survived by a sister, Anna Viglione, of Bethlehem; a brother, Patrick Renaldi, of Phillipsburg, NJ; a son, James Renaldi, of East Stroudsburg; a daugther, Donna Carr, of Bath; a long time companion, Annie Greene, of Bath; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Monday at 9 a.m. in the Alfonso D. Morello Funeral Home, 12th & Lehigh Streets, Easton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 9th and Lehigh Streets, Easton. Interment will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Williams Township.
There will be a viewing Monday 8 to 9 a.m. in the funeral home.

Gladys L. Newell, 73, of Stroudsburg, died Saturday at home. She was the wife of Victor G. Newell, at home.
Born on January 26, 1925 in Martins Creek, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Filander and Dorothy (Decker) Miller and had lived in the area all of her life. She had worked for Hughes Printing, East Stroudsburg, Valerie Fashions and then for the Snydersville Diner.
She was a member of the Blue Ridge Fire Department Women's Auxiliary.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons , Gerald Newell of East Stroudsburg and Donald Newell of Stroudsburg; a daughter, Margaret M. Narkavich of Stroudsburg; three brothers , Woodrow Miller of Tannersville, David Miller of Stroudsburg and Henry Miller of Harrisburg; two sisters , Arvilla Schuler of Saylorsburg and Nora Heller of Mount Pocono; eight grandsons, one granddaughter; three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Paul Newell in 1973.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in the William H. Clark Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert B. Shrom officiating. Burial will follow in the Kellersville Cemetery.
There will be a viewing on Sunday, tonight, from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
