Jean M. Piatt, 73, of Stroudsburg, died on Monday, June 22 at her home. She was the wife of Ira A. Piatt, Jr. They celebrated 54 years of marriage in October.
She was born on April 13, 1925 in Wilkes Barre, the daughter of the late William Hayes and Bessie (Meade) Hayes.
She was a 1942 graduate of Wilson High School in Wilson Boro.
She was a former Cub Scout den mother and member of the Northeast PA AAA.
In addition to her husband she is survived by a daughter, Deborah Davis of Easton; a son, Barry Piatt of Bethlehem; a brother, John Hayes of Mystic, Conn.; a sister, Claire James of Smyrna, Ga.; and 5 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Ashton Funeral Home, 14th and Northampton streets in Easton. Interment in Northampton Memorial Shrine, Easton. Calling hours are from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

John D. Labar, Sr.
June 21, 1998
John D. Labar, Sr., 89 years of age, of White Twp., NJ, died June 21, 1998 in the Warren Hospital, Phillipsburg, NJ. Born November 14, 1908 in Tranquility, NJ to the late Arthur and Elizabeth Longcore Labar. Mr. Labar has resided at his present address for the past three years moving from Blairstown, NJ.
Before retiring in 1977, he was a night watchman for Blair Academy in Blairstown for fifteen years and until 1982 he served as caretaker for the Blairstown United Methodist Church. In his earlier years Mr. Labar farmed in the Sussex and Warren County areas of NJ. Mr. Labar was a member of the Blairstown United Methodist and the Blairstown Senior Citizens.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, the former Ruth Grube Labar, also three sons , John D. Jr. of Dover, NJ, Jerry of Blairstown, NJ, and David of Easton; also one daughter, Ruth Anna Makatura of Oxford, NJ; and ten grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and five step-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m. at the Newbaker Funeral Home, RT. 94, Blairstown, NJ. Visitation will be Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Interment will be in the Tranquility Cemetery, Tranquility, NJ.

Thomas W. "Tod" Lambert, 72, of East Stroudsburg, died Saturday at home. He was the husband of Roberta L. (Starner) Lambert to whom he had been married since October 29, 1945.
Born on March 6, 1926 in Allentown, he was the son of the late Mahlon M. and Margaret (Peterson) Lambert and had lived at Lake Manzanedo since 1957. He had owned and operated the M.M. Lambert & Son Co. in Belfast where he sold and repaired welding equipment retiring in 1989.
A veteran of World War II and Korea, he served in the US Army Air Corp. A graduate of Wilson High School, he was a member and past President of the Manzanedo Rod and Gun Club; was active in Scouting for many years being awarded the Silver Beaver and was an advisor to the Order of the Arrow.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters , Leslie J. Lambert of Nazareth and Lona Bush of Emporium; two granddaughters, Jennifer Blessel of Emporium and Heather Madden of Pocono Lake; a great granddaughter, Jessica Blessel of Emporium and a great grandson, Nicholas Blessel of Emporium.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the William H. Clark Funeral Home, with Rev. Drew Parsons officiating. Private burial will be in the Northampton Memorial Shrine, Easton.
There will be a visitation on Tuesday from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dorothy C. Durkee, 86, Stroudsburg, died on Friday evening at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of the late John R. Durkee, Sr., who died on January 6.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Frank and Cathia (Gillette) Fackenthal. She lived most of her life in Monroe County.
She was a graduate of Marywood University in Scranton with a degree in English and Journalism. She worked briefly for both the Scranton Times and Scranton Tribune.
She was a member of the Stroudsburg United Methodist Church and enjoyed beagling and trout fishing.
She is survived by two sons , Dr. John B. Durkee II of Lake Jackson, Texas and Gillette S. Durkee, Pownal, VT.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, June 22, 1998 at 1 p.m. from the Thomas Funeral Home, , with the Rev. George S. Rigby and Thomas Anderman officiating.
There will be calling hours from 12 to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Claudia L. Genoese, 70, of Effort, died Thursday in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg.
She was the wife of the late Anthony Genoese, Sr.
Born in Hampton Township, NJ, she was a daughter of the late Alfred W. and Mary S. (Field) Grover.
She had been a home health aide in Sussex County, NJ for 10 years, retiring in 1986. Prior to that she had been a telephone operator for Bell Telephone in NJ for a few years.
She is survived by a son, Claude Genoese of Effort. She was preceded in death by a son Anthony Genoese, Jr.
No services are planned at this time. Cremation will take place in the H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg.

John M. Broderick, 79, of Stroudsburg, died Thursday at home. He was the husband of Ethel C. (Bazalgette) Broderick, at home.
Born on November 14, 1918 in Mason City, Iowa, he was the son of the late Leo J. and Annette (Moir) Broderick and had retired to this area in 1980 from Allentown. A Magna Cum Laude Graduate of Notre Dame University, he was the managing editor of Commonweal, and then retired as a writer for the New Yorker Magazine.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served as Captain of the 8th Air Force in England, France, Luxembourg and Germany. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church, Tannersville.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters , Marion Hildebrand of Morrisville, NY and Harriet Palomba of Macungie; a son, Willoughby Broderick of Stroudsburg and three grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church, Tannersville with Father Henry E. Zapotocki as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg.
There will be a viewing on Sunday from 7-8:30 p.m. with wake services at the William H. Clark Funeral Home,

Oliver H. Wolfe, 82, of Effort, formerly of Radnor, died Thursday in his home.
He was the husband of Frances G. (Gamble) Wolfe, at home. They had observed their 56th wedding anniversary in November of 1997.
Born in Berwyn, he was a son of the late J. Mathias and Anna (Gravel) Wolfe.
He had been the manager at Hobson & Owens in Bryn Mawr for over 30 years, retiring in 1977. He had lived in Radnor for 36 years, before moving to Effort in 1977.
He was a member of Great Valley Presbyterian Church in Malvern and he had attended Salem United Church of Christ in Gilbert. He was also an elder in the Presbyterian Church.
He had played baseball for the local team in the Wayne area for many years and he was a member of the Indian Mt. Twilight Golf League in Kresgeville.
He was a World War II veteran.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sisters , Rebecca Wolfe of King of Prussia and Sara Smithson of Malvern.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday from the Kresge Funeral Home, Route 209 Brodheadsville, with the Rev. Michael Eckroth officiating, and on Monday at 1 p.m. from Great Valley Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dan Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Valley Forge Gardens, King of Prussia. A viewing will be held on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service from the funeral home.

John L. Boyer, 57, of East Stroudsburg, died Wednesday, June 17, in Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg.
Born in Milleville, he was the son of Martha (Ladlee) Boyer of East Stroudsburg, and the late Raymond S. Boyer. He was a life long resident of Monroe County.
He was employed, as a cook, at the Monroe County Correctional Facility in Snydersville until his retirement in May of this year. He was a peacetime veteran of the U.S. Army.
In addition to his mother , he is survived by a sister, Josephine VanWhy of Bushkill; a brother, Raymond C. Boyer of East Stroudsburg; a niece, Sally Norris and a nephew, Raymond C. Boyer Jr., both of East Stroudsburg; and 4 grand nieces and grand nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 22 at 11 a.m. in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, , with Rev. Raymond Poortstra officiating.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Monday, from 10 a.m. to the time of the service.

James M. Armstrong

James M. Armstrong, 87, of Mountainhome, died Tuesday at Pocono Medical Center. He is survived by his wife, Edna (Rieger) Armstrong, at home.
Born in Gray Court, S.C., he was the son of the late Dennis and Priscilla (Jones) Armstrong.
As a youngster, he worked as an auto-assembly person in Gray Court, S.C. At the age of 16, he opened his first business, a gas station in Long Island City, N.Y.
During war times, he was classified as essential personnel by his employer, Grumman Aircraft Corporation.
In 1947, he opened Armstrong Complete Auto Service in Hicksville, Long Island, which he operated until his retirement in 1979.
He attended the Mountainhome United Methodist Church in Mountainhome.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, James Armstrong, Jr., of Richmond, Va.; two daughters , Lucille Seden of Plainview, Long Island, and Patricia Carter, of Mechanicsville, Va.; a step-son, Robert Rieger, of Niagara Falls, N.Y.; and a step-daughter, Bonnie R. Lucas of Rutland, Vt.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Louise Francis LaTuga of Smithtown, Long Island.
The Rev. Elaine Barnes of the Mountainhome United Methodist Church will conduct a funeral service on Friday at 8 p.m. at the Bolock Funeral Home, Corner of Routes 940 & 390, Paradise Valley. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
