Jennie M. Check, 86, of Mount Pocono, died Sunday, May 3rd, at Pocono Medical Center after a long illness. She was the wife of Emery S. Check.
Born in Noxen, she was a graduate of Old Beaumont School in 1928. She owned and operated Country Kitchen Restaurant in Tunkhannock until moving to Miami, Fla., where she worked as a cook in Hotel Good, and private estate on Star Island. She relocated to the Poconos in 1949. She was one of the original organizers of the Cub Scouts Pack 95 in the Mount Pocono area and was the first Den mother . Her life-long interest in oil painting included classes with Edna Palmer Englehardt. She was an active member of Mount Pocono Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Besides her husband, Emery, she is survived by a son, Alan of Mount Pocono.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 11, at 7 p.m. at Mount Pocono Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Robert Eugene Hilliard

Robert Eugene Hilliard Jr., 53, of East Stroudsburg, died on Tuesday, May 5, at his home. He was the husband of Mildred "Cookie" (Harrison) Hilliard at home.
He was born in East Stroudsburg, a son of Robert E. and Roberta F. (Miller) Hilliard Sr. of East Stroudsburg. He was a life long resident of Monroe County.
He was currently employed by Instrument Specialties Company of Delaware Water Gap as a maintenance mechanic for 10 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the George N. Kemp, Post 346, American Legion of East Stroudsburg and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 118 of Stroudsburg.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by a son, Kenneth Hilliard of East Stroudsburg; a sister, Mary L. Mandra of Stroudsburg; 3 brothers , Gary E. Hilliard of Slateford, Terrence A. Hilliard of Sciota, and Jeffrey T. Hilliard of Blakeslee; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 11, at 11 a.m. in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg with Pastor Dean Heisey officiating.
Interment will be in the Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Sunday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Florence Del Sardo

Florence (Yodice) Del Sardo, 74, of Mt. Pocono, died Saturday at home after an illness. She was the wife of Anthony Del Sardo.
Born in Paterson, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Ethel Mae (Fox) Yodice. She was educated in New Jersey Schools and later retired as an Administrative Assistant from the City of Paterson, Welfare Department after thirty-one years of service.
She as very active in community service, both in Paterson and in the Mt. Pocono area. She served as past president of Ed O'Bryne Democrat Club, Paterson; a life member and former treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary, Coolbaugh Twp. Volunteer Fire Co.; the former Coordinator of the Monroe County Food Pantry; and a member of TOPS Chapter #9. She was a member of Mt. Pocono United Methodist Church.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her son, Frank of Wantage, N.J., and her daughter, Diane E. McGrath of Tobyhanna. She was also survived by a brother, Frank Yodice of Toms River, N.J., and a sister, Sylvia Kross of Hawthorne, N.J.; six grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the James M. Hook & Co., Funeral Directors, 35 Sterling Road, Mt. Pocono.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at Mt. Pocono United Methodist Church, Mt. Pocono. The Rev. John Charnock will preside. Interment immediately following at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Paramus, N.J.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Coolbaugh Twp. Ambulance Corp or the Monroe County Diabetes Foundation.

Jean Pelton Nixon

Jean Pelton Nixon of Apopka, Fla., died in her sleep May 3, 1998.
She was born in Paterson, N.J. in 1912.
She graduated from East Stroudsburg High School and received her BS at East Stroudsburg Teachers College, now known as the University. She taught English at East Stroudsburg High School and went on to receive her Masters in English in Library Science from Drexel Institute. From there, she was the Librarian at Elementary and High School level for the Port Washington School District, N.Y.
She was married to Robert H. Ensco until 1975. She later married William Nixon of Pocono Farms and Errol Estate, Apopka, Fla, in 1980 after the death of her late husband. She was presently a widow.
She is survived by 2 children, Roberta Stremic of Northern Philadelphia and Philip Ensco of Green Bay, Wis.; a sister, Marion Brown of Hawley. Jeanne was the stepdaughter of the late Honorable Judge Davis of East Stroudsburg and was also survived by 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She was living in Florida at the time of her death.
Donations requested in her memory to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
A service will be held at the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington St., East Stroudsburg, on Saturday at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at the Laurelwood Cemetery in Stroudsburg.

Stella M. Denlinger

Stella M. "Peg" Denlinger, 69, of 51 Riverside Avenue, Lancaster, died Monday night at Lancaster General Hospital, following a long illness.
She was the wife of Willis B. Denlinger, with whom she would have celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary this Friday.
Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Nettie Steigleman Beecher.
She first worked at the former RCA in Lancaster, assembling picture tubes. Next, she worked in the cafeteria of Borrews Elementary School in Lancaster. She last worked for the former Servomation at Lancaster General Hospital, retiring in 1975.
She was of the Protestant Faith.
An avid reader, she also enjoyed sewing and knitting.
She attended Navy PT Boat and Destroyer reunions with her husband.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Bruce A. husband of Trudi Quinn Denlinger of Stroudsburg; a daughter, Faith A. wife of John N. Hollern, of Columbia, Pa.; one granddaughter; and two sisters , Edith wife of Raymond Wenger of Salunga, Pa., and Elnora Myers of Lititz, Pa.
Funeral Services will be held at the Ellis R. Bachman Funeral Home, Inc., 7 South Decatur Street, Strasburg, Pa. on Thursday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Joseph R. Faith officiating. Interment in Paradise Mennonite Cemetery, Paradise Twp., Pa. Friends may visit with the family at the Bachman Funeral Home on Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m.

William J. Ross

William J. Ross of Buck Hill Falls, formerly of Chinchilla and Gouldsboro, died Friday at home following an illness. He and his wife the former Roberta Morgan would have celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in March.
Born in Scranton the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Earl H. Ross. He was a retired heating engineer and was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater of Operation.
The funeral and interment at Abington Hills Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing.

Frank S. Scerbo, Jr., 66, of East Stroudsburg, died on Sunday at the Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Shirley (Smith) Scerbo, at home. They had been married for 40 years.
He was born in Jersey City, N.J., a son of the late Frank S. and Jennie (Oliva) Scerbo, Sr. He had been a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church in East Stroudsburg.
He, along with his son, was a building contractor and owned Frank Scerbo & Son Building Contractors of East Stroudsburg for 37 years. He was a member of Monroe Pike Builders Association. He was a graduate of Dickison High School in Jersey City, N.J.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 sons , Frank S. Scerbo, III, and Michael A. Scerbo, Sr., both of East Stroudsburg; 3 grandchildren, Jennifer Scerbo, Frank S. Scerbo, IV, Michael A. Scerbo, Jr., all of East Stroudsburg; 5 sisters , Beatrice Calamito, Elsie Calamito, Anna Yakamovich, all of Jersey City, N.J., and Eleanor Spano and Jennie Bolles, both of East Stroudsburg; 6 brothers , Constantino Scerbo of Hoboken, N.J., Anthony Scerbo and Vincent Scerbo, both of Jersey City, N.J., William and Joseph Scerbo, both of East Stroudsburg, and Alfred Scerbo of Seagirt, N.J.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Soden.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 9 a.m. at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, East Stroudsburg with Father Thomas Sokolowski as the celebrant.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg. Interment will be in the Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg.

Anna E. (Manchor) Dross

Anna E. (Manchor) Dross, 82, died Saturday, May 2, after an illness. She was the wife of the late Charles C. Dross, Sr., who preceded her in death in 1992.
Born in Swedesburg, she was the daughter of the late Nichlas and Mary (Kalamarz) Manchor. She was president of the Rosary Society, Sacred Heart Church, Swedesburg, for over thirty years.
She is survived by one son, Charles Dross, Jr. of Mount Pocono. In addition to her son, she is survived by two sisters , Josephine Bazela and Sophie Novitski, both of King-of-Prussia; two grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
Friends may call on Wednesday morning, May 6 from 9 to 10 a.m. at the James M. Hook & Co. Funeral Directors, 35 Sterling Road, Mount Pocono. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Mountain Roman Catholic Church in Mount Pocono. Monsignor Arthur J. Kaschenbach will officiate. Interment immediately following at St. Catherine's Cemetery in Moscow.
