ARTHUR DAGNALL
Arthur "Barry" Dagnall, 69, of East Pittsburgh, on Thursday, March 23, 2000. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and he was a member of VFW Post 5008 in East Pittsburgh. He also served as a police officer in East Pittsburgh for many years. He was the husband of the late Nancy (Hill) Dagnall; Father of Cmdr. Barry Dagnall and his wife, Amy, of Virginia Beach, Va., Jaci Szczepaniak and her husband, John, of Chicago, Ill., and Michael Dagnall and his wife, Heidi, of Greensburg; and brother of Larry Dagnall of East Pittsburgh; also seven grandchildren. AGNES C. DeANGELO
Agnes C. DeAngelo, 72, of Hostetter, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, in UPMC, Pittsburgh. She was born Sept. 13, 1927, in Fairfield Township, Pa., a daughter of the late Elmer "Ike" and Mary A. McMaster Shaulis. She was a member of St. Cecilia Church, Whitney. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Delman Shaulis. Survived by her husband of 52 years, John R. "Ko Ko" DeAngelo; two brothers , Allison Shaulis and his wife, Nancy, of Weltytown and Harry Shaulis and his wife, Peggy, of Hostetter; three sisters , Della M. Hill of Trauger, Nancy M. Vucina and her husband, John, of Waterford, and Mary G. Kuhns and her husband, Danny, of Hostetter. Also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. CLARA M. DeBONE
Clara M. DeBone, 77, of Grapeville, formerly of Hempfield Towers, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, in Monsour Medical Center, Jeannette. She was born May 18, 1922, in Greenwald, a daughter of the late Michael and Florence Domenick DeBone. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Westmoreland Glass of Grapeville. She was a member of Ascension Church of Jeannette. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Louis DeBone; and a nephew, Alan W. Rogan. Surviving are a niece, Charlene Matijevic and her husband, John, with whom she resided; three sisters , Dorothy Rogan and husband, Wayne, of Grapeville, Louise Lostracco of Chicago, Ill., and Mary Santiago of San Leandro, Calif.; two brothers , Michael DeBone and wife, Ruth, of San Leandro, Calif., and Samuel DeBone and wife, Una, of Middletown, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Lucy DeBone of Wilkinsburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the JOHN V. GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 228 N. Second St., Jeannette. THE REV. FRED GREGORY GNATUK
The Rev. Fred Gregory Gnatuk, 84, of Plainwell, Mich., formerly of Fayette City, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, in his home. He was born July 4, 1915, in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, the oldest son of the late George Andrew and Helen Natalia Gnatuk. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army. He graduated from Carmichaels High School in 1931. He graduated from Waynesburg College in 1949 and the Western Theological Seminary (now Pittsburgh) in 1952. He married Margaret Craig on June 19, 1950, and celebrated 46 years of marriage before she passed away on Nov. 13, 1996. He served as a student pastor for two years at the Logstown Presbyterian Mission in Aliquippa. He was ordained by the Presbytery of Redstone in 1952. He was called to the Redstone Co-Operative Parish which included eight churches and a relationship with Waynesburg College. He taught at Waynesburg for two years and his primary church assignment was the Hopewell Presbyterian Church, Brownsville, and the Maxwell Presbyterian Church. In March 1955, he resigned from the parish to accept a call to the Girard Presbyterian Church, Girard. In 1960, he received a call from the New Castle, Ohio, Presbyterian Church. In 1966, he received a call from the Little Redstone and Fayette City Presbyterian Churches. He remained with those two churches until November 1982, when he retired from the active pastorate. The Rev. and Mrs. Gnatuk moved to Bear Rocks community where they lived until September 1996, when they went to live with their daughter, Rebecca, because of Mrs. Gnatuk's illness. He is survived by a son, the Rev. Wayne A. Gnatuk of Lexington, Ky.; two daughters , Deborah A. and husband, David Zeigler, of Hannibal, Mo., and Rebecca J. Gnatuk of Plainwell, Mich.; five grandchildren; two brothers , Peter Gnatuk of Uniontown and William Gnatuk of Carmichaels; a sister, Lydia Hope Cleveland of Fairfax, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. There will be no public viewing and interment will be private in the Fairview Cemetery, Kecksburg, at the convenience of the family. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 25, at 10 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, Greensburg. The family requests there be no flowers and that memorial donations be sent in memory of the Rev. Fred G. Gnatuk to one of the following: Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, Waynesburg College, Little Redstone Presbyterian Church, Fayette City, Pa., Fayette City Presbyterian Church, East Liberty Presbyterian Church, Vanderbilt, Pa., West Leisenring Presbyterian Church, West Leisenring, Pa., or the First Presbyterian Church of Greensburg. ROBERT LEE JAWORSKI
Robert Lee "Herky" Jaworski, 58, of Mt. Pleasant, died Thursday morning, March 23, 2000, at the Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. "Herky" was born Sept. 3, 1941, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late Bruno "Jabs" and Martha Pieszak Jaworski. He was a member of the Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant, a student of the former Hurst High School, a member of Standard Shaft Citizens Club, Hecla Sportsmen Club and the Polish Falcons Club. He was employed by Lenox Crystal of Mt. Pleasant and was a member of American Flint Glass Workers Union. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Kozar Jaworski; a brother, Ronnie J. Jaworski and wife, Deborah, of Mt. Pleasant; several aunts, uncles and nieces; and a great-nephew. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Roseann Sebeck Jaworski. Friends will be received in the EUGENE G. SALOOM FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Mt. Pleasant, Friday from 2 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in the Transfiguration R.C. Church. Henry C. "Hank" Julian, 94, of Enfield, Conn., died Monday, March 20, 2000, in Enfield, Conn. Born in Nebraska City, Neb., he had lived formerly in Brooklyn and Queens, N.Y., East Berlin, Conn., and retired to Enfield, Conn. He retired after 45 years of service for the Borroughs Corp. as a service manager for more than 30 years. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Pearl Rebecca "Joni" Julian; his son, Peter and wife, Diane, of Sterling, Va.; two grandsons, David and wife, Jennifer Julian, of Sterling, Va., and Bradley Julian of Richmond, Va. Also survived by a sister, Helen Scotto; a sister-in-law, Ellamae Johnson of Youngwood; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by four sisters , Henrietta Julian, Adeliane Aiello, Margaret Chiarello, and Theresa Thomas; and three brothers , Ernest Julian, Salvatore Marane, and Fred Marane. JOHN M. LODZSUN
John M. Lodzsun, 88, of Jeannette, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at UPMC Presbyterian, Oakland. He was born May 7, 1911, in South Fork, Pa., a son of the late John and Mary Zubaka Lodzsun. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the Jeannette School District as music supervisor. He was a member of the Ascension Church of Jeannette and the church's Holy Name Society and a former director of the church choir and also the Jeannette Centennial Band. John was also an avid fisherman and belonged to the Twin Lakes Fishing Club. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth Pehrson Lodzsun, in 1996; and a brother, Julius Lodsun, in February of this year. He is survived by three daughters , Judith L. Post and Susan J. Lodzsun, both of Connecticut, and Victoria L. Cima of Ligonier; a son, Michael Lodzsun and wife, Verna, of Jeannette; a sister, Mary Babyak of West Virginia; five grandchildren, James Post, Timothy Cima, and Adam, Sarah and Emily Lodzsun; a great-grandson, Austin Post; and several nieces and nephews. EDGAR B. MARSHALL
Edgar B. Marshall, 85, of Greensburg, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, in Hempfield Manor, Hempfield Township. He was born Oct. 22, 1914, in Loyalhanna Township, a son of the late Frank S. and Nina G. Waddle Marshall. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Greensburg. He was the owner and operator of Marshall's Retreading in Greensburg for 43 years. He was a member of B.P.O.E. #511, L.O.O.M. #1151, VFW #33, Young Voters Club, and Hose Co. #6 Firemen's Club, all in Greensburg, the American Legion Post 981 in South Greensburg, and an honorary member of the AMVETS in Greensburg. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Annabelle Lawrence Marshall, in 1974; a sister, Lillian Smith; and a brother, William R. Marshall. He is survived by a son, Edgar R. "Jack" and his wife, Donna Marshall, of Greensburg; a stepson, Steve and his wife, Joann Lawrence, of Greensburg; three stepdaughters, Carol and her husband, G. William Clark, of Greensburg, Margaret and her husband, Frank Bassegio, of North Huntingdon and Linda and Robert Vertosick of Greensburg; a sister, Marjorie Riggle of Elderton; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; nine stepgrandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; several nieces; and a nephew. HENRY G. ROSCHER
Henry G. Roscher, 79, of Jeannette, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born July 18, 1920, in Manor, a son of the late Ignatz and Elizabeth Zekar Roscher. Prior to his retirement, he was the owner/operator of the Roscher Heating and Air Conditioning Co. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Jeannette, a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II as an MP, and a member of the Jeannette American Legion Post #344. In addition to his parents, Henry was predeceased by three brothers , Ignatious "Iggy," Joseph and William Roscher; and two sisters , Bertha Rowe and Dorothy Miller. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Zwinski Roscher; two daughters , Dorette Lanis and husband, Del, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Doreen King and husband, Thomas, of Jeannette; four grandchildren, Derek, Stephen, Scott and Elizabeth; a sister, Marie Worthy of Jeannette; three brothers , John Roscher of New Jersey, Fred Roscher and wife, Carolyn, of Tennessee, and Norman Roscher and wife, Sue, of Apollo; a brother-in-law, Robert Rowe; a sister-in-law, Joanne Roscher; a great companion, the family pet Laddy Boy; and numerous nieces and nephews. JOHN J. SABOL
John J. Sabol, 73, of Greensburg, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born June 4, 1926, in Dunlo, Pa., a son of the late Michael and Johanna Adamcik Sabol. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church in Greensburg. Prior to retirement, he had been employed by the Elliott Co. of Jeannette. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, and a member of the A.M.S. Club of South Greensburg. He was an avid golfer and belonged to the Mt. Odin Golf Course. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers , Michael and Andrew Sabol; and two sisters , Mary Vinkler and Helen Polka. He is survived by his wife, Mafalda R. (DeBone) Sabol; a son, John Michael and his wife, Rita Sabol, of Greensburg; a daughter, Anita M. Sabol and her fiance, Joseph Flanders, of Greensburg; two brothers , Fred and George Sabol of Ohio; three sisters , Amelia Fargus, Evelyn Stano and Anna Palka, all of Ohio; several nieces and nephews, including Damion Giacchino and Laura Kostosky; and a great-nephew, Dillon Keith Kostosky. GLADYS ELIZABETH STOHL SARGENT
Gladys Elizabeth Stohl Sargent, 83, of Mt. Pleasant, was called home Wednesday, March 22, 2000. She was born in Mt. Pleasant, July 20, 1916, a daughter of the late Wolford and Sarah Goney Stohl. Gladys was the wife of the late Louis "Maggie" Sargent and loving mother of four sons . Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Anchor Hocking of Connellsville for 26 years. She was a graduate of Ramsay High School, class of 1934, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She was the last original member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Mt. Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department, of which she was a member for 62 years and held a number of offices. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Western Pennsylvania Firemen's Association and a member of the First Baptist Church, where she also served as organist. Also a member of the Jacob Justice Board of Frick Hospital and a member of the Braddock Trail Chapter of the daughters of the American Revolution. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Louis "Maggie" Sargent; a son, Louis Sargent and wife, Nancy; a grandson, Mark; three brothers , Frank Stohl of Youngwood, Wilmer and Carl Stohl of Mt. Pleasant; and a sister, Leona Stohl Carlson of Youngwood. Survived by three sons , Henry and wife, Marie, of Mt. Pleasant, Wilmer and wife, Diane, of Scottdale, and Edward and wife, Patricia, of Lancaster; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. MELVIN J. SMITH
Melvin J. "Beaner" Smith, 67, of West Newton (Collinsburg), passed away peacefully Thursday, March 23, 2000, at home. He was born Oct. 17, 1932, in Collinsburg, a son of the late James D. and Mary H. Povrik Smith. He retired from Continental Can Co. and Volkswagen. He served in the U.S. Army during the
Korean War. He was a member of the Slovenian Benefit Singing Society of Collinsburg and the Collinsburg Hunting and Fishing Club. Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Genevieve C. (McFeely) Smith; three sons , Terry L. Smith and wife, Tina, James D. Smith and Robert R. Smith, all of West Newton; four daughters , Diana L. Hesson and husband, Ronald, of Ruffsdale, Lynn Duffy of Pittsburgh, Darla Maughan and husband, Rick, of West Newton and Laura Smith of Rostraver Township; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald D. Smith Sr. of Perryopolis; five sisters , Elinor Markle and Gladys M. Smith, both of West Newton, Johanna DeMarco of Toledo, Ohio, Mary Ann Kmetz of Rostraver Township and Carol Vito of Bentleyville; a number of nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Shadow. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, James Smith; and a grandson, Daric D. Duffy, in September of 1990.
