Margaret Evans Beers

Margaret Evans Beers, 88, of East Stroudsburg, entered into eternal life on Monday, May 18, at Allied Services Skilled Nursing in Scranton. She was the widow of James E. Beers of East Stroudsburg, who died in 1953.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Edward J. and Louisa (Smith) Evans. She lived most of her life in East Stroudsburg.
She was a 1927 graduate of Technical High School in Scranton and had earned a diploma in accounting from the International Accountants Society in Chicago, Ill.
She was employed by the Pennsylvania State Employment Security Office in the Field Accounting Division until her retirement.
Margaret was a member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in East Stroudsburg and, in earlier years, had served as superintendent of the Primary Department of the Sunday School, and financial secretary of the church. She also was a Volunteer for the General Hospital of Monroe County, and was a member of the Woman's Club of the Stroudsburgs.
She is survived by a son, King W. Beers, of Stroudsburg, and a daughter, Connie Pentz, of East Stroudsburg; seven grandchildren, James E. Beers, II, of Stroudsburg, King W. Beers, Jr., and Jon Christian Beers of East Stroudsburg, Matthew S. Beers of Reno, Nev., John J. Pentz, III, of Boston, Mass., James Evans Pentz, of Havertown, David R. Pentz, of East Stroudsburg; and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a niece, Bertha Evans Morgan of Reno, Nev.
Funeral Services will be held at the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lackawanna Ave., East Stroudsburg, on Saturday, May 23, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Phyllis Hammel officiating. Burial will follow in the Stroudsburg cemetery.
Friends may call at the viewing on Friday evening, May 22, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lackawanna Avenue, East Stroudsburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lackawanna Avenue, East Stroudsburg.

Mr. James J. Mazurik, Moscow, passed away Saturday evening in Dreher Twp., from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on Rt. 507. His ex-wife is the former Dawn Rose.
Born in Scranton, he was a son of James and Rose Clarke Mazurik of Gouldsboro. A 1988 graduate of Pocono Mountain High School, he graduated in 1990 from Johnson Technical Institute. He was employed for the past nine years at Tompson Consumer Electronics, Dunmore, Pa., as a Mechanic.
Surviving are 1 daughter, Katie, at home; 1 sister, Kerri of Gouldsboro; 1 brother, Fred of Gouldsboro; maternal grandmother, Mary Clarke of Scranton. He was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Robyn, at birth.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday from the Snowdon Funeral Home, 401 Church Street, Moscow, Pa., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, Moscow.
Interment will be in Lehigh Cemetery, Gouldsboro, Pa., Lehigh Twp.
Friends may call Tues., 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Patricia Lauridia, 72, of Stroudsburg, died Saturday at St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill, Pa.
She was the wife of Pompey Lauridia. They had been married 41 years.
Born in N.Y.C., N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Verna Powell.
She had been a Nurses Aide for Wassiac State School in Wassiac, N.Y., for 18 years until her retirement in 1982. She attended Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Tannersville.
In addition to her husband, Pompey, she is survived by 2 daughters , Veronica Manfredi of Long Island, N.Y., and Concetta wife of Bernard Uckele of Stroudsburg; a son, Robert D. Palmer of Spokane, Wash.; 3 stepsons, Richard Lauridia of Irving, Texas , Donald Lauridia of Babylon, N.Y., and Thomas Lauridia of Gillette, N.J.; 7 grandchildren; and 1 great grandson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Tannersville with the Father Henry Zapatocki celebrant. Viewing will be held Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Donald N. Gower Funeral Home, Inc., Route 209, Gilbert.
Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Maureen Elizabeth Thiel, 43, of Bushkill, entered into eternal life on Saturday in her home. She was the wife of William C. Thiel at home.
Born in Elizabeth, N.J., a daughter of Margaret Rattery (DeBoys) Davies of Cranford, N.J., and the late Godfrey Davies. She was a resident of Pike County since 1991 and prior to that she resided in Brandon, Fla., for many years.
She was employed as a hairdresser since 1973, working in many different places and also working from her home. She was a member of Bushkill Reformed Church in Bushkill.
In addition to her husband and mother , she is survived by two sons , Erik D. Thiel and Ryan W. Thiel, both at home, and a sister Kathryn Davies of Cranford, N.J.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday evening, May 19, 1998 at 8 p.m. in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg with Rev. Steven Sayre officiating.
There will be a viewing on Tuesday evening from 7 p.m. until the time of service in Lanterman & Allen. Cremation will take place in the H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg.
Committal of Cremains will take place in Sand Hill Cemetery, Shoemakers, with Rev. Sayre officiating.

Margaret A. Pfeifer, 66, of Mt. Bethel, died Friday afternoon in her home. She was the wife of Chauncey L. "Jake" Pfeifer with whom she celebrated 47 years of marriage.
Born on October 17, 1931, in Minisink Hills Pa., she was a daughter of the late Clayton K., Sr., and Annabell H. (Frutchey) Bush.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Linda L. Bush of Stroudsburg; a son, Gary A. Foley, Sr., of Bangor; two sisters , Eleanor Stephens of Macungie and Carolyn Bush of Daytona Beach, Fla.; two brothers , Carl Bush of East Stroudsburg, and Leslie Bush of Scranton; four grandchildren; and one great granddaughter. She was predeceased by two brothers , Frank Bush and Clayton Bush, Jr.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.

Jane Vaughn, 89, of Stroudsburg died Thursday in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of the late Frank Vaughn who died in 1963.
Born on September 10, 1908 in Stroudsburg, she was the daughter of the late Charles D. and Adelaide (Brown) Quick and had lived in the area for most of her life. She had worked at Nu-Maid Hosiery Mill, Stroudsburg, Vasaar Bag Co., Stroudsburg, several blouse factories and last working at the Elby's Restaurant in Stroudsburg. She was a member of the East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church and the AARP.
She is survived by her children, Shirley Carlton of East Stroudsburg, Charles Vaughn of Portland, Judy Harman of Kunkletown, and Faye Rutz of Dingmans Ferry; ten grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Kelly Vaughn in 1973.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. in the William H. Clark Funeral Home, with Dr. Robert Macmillan and Rev. Raymond Poortstra officiating. Burial will follow in the Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg.
There will be a viewing on Monday from 12 noon until the time of the services at the funeral home.

Alvina J. Kwasny of the Phillip Street Hanover section of Nanticoke died Thursday at Mercy Special Care Hospital in Nanticoke.
She was born in Nanticoke the daughter of the late Charles Perluke and Anna Garvey Perluke. She was a graduate of Nanticoke High School and Wilkes-Barre Business College where she earned a degree in drafting. She was a telephone operator and payroll clerk for the Duplan Manufacturing Mill of Nanticoke; a secretary for Perluke Cooperage of Nanticoke; and owned the Vi-King Fashion Store in Nanticoke. She was also a member of Saint Joseph's Church and the Christian Mothers Society of the Hanover section of Nanticoke.
Alvina and her husband Daniel celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 8, 1998.
Preceding her in death was a brother George Perluke.
In addition to her husband Daniel Kwansy she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. William (Bonnie) Zarenba of Sugar Notch; three sons : Barry Kwasny of Stroudsburg; David Kwasny of Cedarburg, Wis.; and James Kwasny of Pflvegerville, Texas ; two brothers , Edward Perluke of Nanticoke and Eugene Perluke of Wapwallopen; 11 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held Monday from 9:30 a.m. at the Thomas E. Buczkowski Funeral Home, 210 Pine Street, Nanticoke with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Joseph's Church. Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment in Oaklawn Cemetery in Hanover Township.
