Fay L. Sincavage

May 16, 1998

Fay L. Sincavage, a prominent Pocono-area businesswoman, of Blakeslee, died Saturday at her home.

Born March 6, 1932, in Kingston, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Howard and Joy Robacher Faust. She was a graduate of Wyoming Seminary, Kingston, the class of 1950, and the Hoyt School of Practical Nursing. She attended Cedar Crest College. She resided in the Blakeslee area since 1955. She was the owner of the S.I.D.E. Corporation, formerly the Sincavage Corporation, which she co-founded in 1964 with her late husband, Thomas Sincavage, who preceded her in death on Feb. 27, 1989. They were married for 35 years. They were the developers of the Old Farm Estates and New Ventures Commercial Park.

She was an active member of the Pocono community, serving on various boards during her lifetime. She was a member of Christ the King Church, Blakeslee; a charter member of the Rotary Ann's with the Top O Pocono Rotary Club, a member of the Pocono Mountain School Board from 1980 to 1984; a member of the Monroe County Vocational Technical School, 1980-1984; she served as various officers for the Blakeslee Community House; was a past member of the Pocono Mountain Women's Club; Pocono Mountains Gardening Club; and was on the board of directors of the Kettle Creek Environmental Fund.

She is survived by her five children: David, Mark, Jill Colgan, Anne, all of Blakeslee, and Thomas III of Philadelphia; a sister Hope Hodgen, of Kingston, and two grandchildren, Nadia and David Sincavage, of Blakeslee.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday with a Mass of Christian Burial in Christ the King Church, Route 115, Blakeslee with Rev. Father Raymond Deviney officiating.

Interment will follow in the Warden Cemetery, Dallas, Pa.

Friends may call Monday 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Simon S. Russin Funeral Home Inc, 136 Maffett Street, Plains, and Tuesday morning 9:30 until the time of service at Christ the King Church, Blakeslee. A Bible vigil will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Virginia F. Sandt Stanovski

May 17, 1998

Virginia F. Sandt Stanovski, 84, of Hillcrest Retirement Community in Bartonsville and formerly of Slateford and the Bangor High Rise, died Sunday in Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg.

Born March 29, 1914 in Quakertown, she was the daughter of the late Issac Newton and Grace (Brungess) Strunk.

She was last employed by the former Marquette Industries in Bangor, retiring in 1978.

She is survived by two sons , Clayton Sandt of Fruitland Park, Fla. and John L. Sandt, Jr., of Stroudsburg; two daughters , Jane Howley and Nancy Ritz, both of Thornhurst, Pa.; 8 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 5 step great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Reed/Gaffney Funeral Home, Inc., 4 Lillian Lane, Johnsonvile. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Portland, Pa.

Friends may call Wednesday, 1 p.m. until the time of the services at the funeral home.

George L. Henry

May 16, 1998

George L. Henry, 75, of R.R. 2, Box 588, Drums, formerly of Hazleton, Pa., Jeddo Borough, Pa., and Ellenton,, Fla.; died late Saturday at Davis Manor, Mountaintop, Pa.

Born in West Hazleton, he was the son of the late George F. and Ruth (Hall) Henry. He lived in the Hazleton area until moving to Ellenton in 1988.

He was a 1940 graduate of West Hazleton High School and worked as a stock and shipping clerk at Reidler Knitting Mill, Hazleton, until 1967. Later, until retiring in 1973, he worked as a route salesman for Farmers' Dairy, Hazleton.

He was a former member of Christ Memorial United Church of Christ, West Hazleton.

In earlier years, he led a four-piece orchestra, known as the 4-Sharps, well known locally for having played at civic and social affairs throughout northeastern and central Pennsylvania .

He was a member of the West Hazleton Fire Co. and the Hazleton Liberty Band, in which he played clarinet and saxophone.

Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, was his first wife, the former Norma E. Bertie, in 1982.

Surviving are daughters , Linda Rae Richie of Bangor and Mrs. John (Ruth Ann) Grohol of Hazleton; a son, George A. of Muncy; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; and his second wife, the former Marion Peters Garrity, whom he married in August, 1992.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, May 20, 1998, at 10 a.m., from the Karpf & Hughes Funeral Home, Inc., 426 W. Broad Street., Hazleton. The Rev. Richard D. Abernethy will preside.

Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, St. Johns, Pa.

Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday, May 19, 1998, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Karen Roth

May 10, 1998

Karen Roth passed away in Sebastopol, California, on May 10, 1998. She was the dearly beloved wife to Allen Roth, previously deceased, and mother to Richard Roth, previously deceased, and Robyn Roth who resides in Sebastopol, California. She is also survived by her loving son-in-law Mack McKinley and her grandson, Darren Batzold.

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, and a native of New York City, Karen relocated to Stroudsburg with her husband, Allen, in the early 1950's.

Karen has an outstanding list of theatrical, musical, singing and dancing accomplishments. She began her musical career in Vaudeville as the lead in the "Manhattan Step and Steppers," she sang, danced and played the violin throughout the Vaudeville years, successfully made a transition to radio, to television and the early movies. Karen's true love was the voice. She sang in the St. Louis Municipal Opera and many other concert halls in major cities in addition to being soloist in the Christian Science Church in Stroudsburg. She sang at the Country Villa, Bushkill, every summer to hundreds of appreciative audiences. She sang in five different languages and was a skilled entertainer.

She was a devoted mother and a lioness when it came to her children. She loved all children and established a School of the Performing Arts in East Stroudsburg where she made many contributions and enriched many lives. She loved all life and living things and shared her positive thoughts and philosophy with many who she mentored along the way.

She is so very much missed and loved. Karen will journey along with her daughter, Robyn, and son-in-law, Mack McKinley, for a planned Memorial Service at Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg to be announced sometime this summer, 1998, under her beloved Pennsylvania mountains and skies.

Helen Bless, 84, of Canadensis died Monday in Whiting, N.J. She was the wife of the late William N. Bless who died in 1996.

Born on January 31, 1914 in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Josephine Lansche and had lived in the area for 20 years moving here from King of Prussia. A graduate of Immaculate College, Philadelphia, she taught French, English and Music in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. She was a member of St. Bernadette's Roman Catholic Church, Canadensis.

She is survived by three sons , Paul Bless of Melrose Park, Kevin Bless of Toms River, N.J., and William Bless, Jr., of Stroudsburg; a sister, Frances Green of Baxley, Ga.; and two grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 1:30 p.m. in St. Bernadette's Roman Catholic Church, Canadensis with Father Alfred J. Vito as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Seese Hill Cemetery, Canadensis.

There will be a viewing on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the church.

Gladys H. Chesebro

May 19, 1998

Gladys (Hayes) Chesebro, 97, of Tobyhanna, died Tuesday, May 19, after an illness in Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. She was the widow of Melvil Chesebro, who died in 1982.

Born in Central Bridge, New York, she was the daughter of the late John and Mertie (Gordon) Hayes.

She is survived by her daughter, Elenor Gaige and son-in-law, Harry E. Gaige of Tobyhanna. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Jerry Gaige of Tobyhanna, Dennis Gaige of Cresco, and Mel Gaige of Mt. Pocono; and two great-grandchildren, Corrin Gaige and Janis Gaige, both of Tobyhanna.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Bernard J. Conlin, Jr.

May 19, 1998

Bernard J. Conlin, Jr., 53, of RR 6, Lake Ariel, died Tuesday in the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Hazleton, he was the son of the late Bernard J. and Mary Donohue Conlin, Sr.

He had resided in Wayne County for the past 18 years, prior of Scotrun.

He had been employed in Real Estate Sales prior to his illness.

Bernard was an Air Force Veteran of the Viet Nam War.

He is survived by 2 sons , Brian K. Conlin and Brendan R. Conlin, at home; and a step-daughter, Leslie Cunningham, at home.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday in the Assembly of God Church, Hamlin, Pastor Gordon White Officiating.

Lewis R. Lewis

May 29, 1998

Lewis R. Lewis, 73, of Mountainhome, died Friday from injuries sustained in an autombile accident in Pocono Township. He was the husband of the late Margaret D. "Peg" Lewis who died in 1997.

Born on May 24, 1925 in Pocoo Pines, he was the son of the late Joseph and Barbara (Habib) Lewis and had lived in the area all of his life. After serving in World War II in the U.S. Marines, he became co-owner and operator of Lewis' Super Market in Mountainhome, retiring in 1981.

He was a member of St. Bernadette's Roman Catholic Church, Canadensis; the Evans-Blitz Post 922 American Legion, Canadensis; Charter Member of the Barrett Township Lions Club; and the Knights of Columbus, Tobyhanna. He served on the Monroe County Board of Assistance, the Pocono Mountain Joint School Authority and on the Barrett Township Planning Commission. he also had been a member of the Holy Name Society of the former St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church, Canadensis and a charter member of the Money Investors Investment Club.

He is survived by two sons , Jerry Lewis of Buck Hill Falls and Paul Lewis of York; two daughters , Beverly Ferrand of Mountainhome and Mary Ann Lewis of Boston, MA; five grandchildren, Nicki Lewis of Philadelphia, Greg Lewis of Buck Hill Falls and Rachel, John and Laura Ferrand, all of Mountainhome; four sisters , Sadie Christman, Alice Lewis and Marge Lewis, all of Pocono Pines and Betty Joseph of Wilkes-Barre; five brothers , Thomas Lewis and James Lewis, both of Mountainhome, William Lewis and Joseph Lewis, both of Pocono Pines and Norman Lewis of Exeter; and many nieces and nephews.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Bernadette's Roman Catholic Church, Canadensis with Father Alfred J. Vito as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Pocono Lake Cemetery.

There will be a visitation on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 71 North Franklin Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.

William J. Keating

May 27, 1998

William J. Keating, 84, of East Stroudsburg, died Wednesday in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Gloria (Pflugfelder) Keating, at home.

Born on March 24, 1914 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late William J. and Lillian J. (Flood) Keating and had lived in the area for the past four years moving her from Alfred, Maine and had previously lived in Long Island, NY for many years. He was a graduate of Fordham Law School, New York, NY where he received his Doctorate of Law. He was director of taxes for Ingersoll-Rand in Woodcliff Lakes, NY for forty years retiring in 1975.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons , Mark Kenneth Keating of Palm Beach, FL, William Keeting of Shawnee-On-Delaware and Michael Patrick Keating of Ogunquit, Maine; four daughters , Grace Colby Drury of West Orange, NJ, Bridget Keating of New York, NY, Katherine Keating of Anthony, New Mexico and Kinnea Keating of Lubbock, Texas ; and five grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 9 a.m. in St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church, East Stroudsburg. Burial will follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY.

Virginia Bellingrath

May 26, 1998

Virginia Bellingrath, 79, of Robinwood Village died Tuesday at the Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of the late Leon Bellingrath.

She was the daughter of the late George and Adalade (Lewis) Close.

She had attended Christian Life Assembly Church, Business Route 209, Stroudsburg.

She is survived by 2 sons , Dr. Michael Biblyk of Boston, Mass., and Robert Buric of Wilmington, N.C.; 1 daughter, Judith Rose of New Castle, Wash.; one stepson, Kurt Bellingrath of New Jersey; 2 stepdaughters, Leigh Bellingrath of Wilmington, N.C., and Patti Bellingrath of California; 6 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.

At Virginia's request, her remains were donated to the Humanity Gifts Registry in Philadelphia.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Christian Life Assembly Church, Business Route 209, Stroudsburg, with the Rev. John Puleo officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Monroe County SPCA, P. O. Box 23, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.
