Carl C. Hamblin

Carl C. Hamblin, 84, of Swiftwater, died Monday morning in Laurel Manor Nursing Home, Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Alice E. (Heitler) Hamblin with whom he had celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Born on August 27, 1913, in the family home in Swiftwater, he was a son of the late J. Burton and Harriet (Bogart) Hamblin and was a lifetime resident of Swiftwater.
With his brother, John, he owned Hamblin's Painting Service and worked until retiring in 1988. He was dedicated to his family, church, and community. He was secretary of Paradise Township for 10 years and was active in the Boy Scouts of America for 43 years. He was Scout Master of Troop #95 in Swiftwater for many years; served as District Leader to the National Jamboree at Irvine Ranch, Calif., in 1954; and was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. As a member and Past Master of Pocono Lodge #780 F&AM, he served as treasurer of the Temple Association. At Swiftwater United Methodist Church, he served on the Official Board, was chairman of the Board of Trustees and contributed many years as a choir member. He also sang with the Pocono Mountain Community Chorus of Churches and was a member of the Pocono Paradise Gun Club and the Woodmen of the World.
During World War II, he served in the Connecticut National Guard and worked as an inspector at Thompson Submachine, Bridgeport, Conn. He was a member of the Society of the 28th division and served with the National Guard at Camp Atterbury, Ind., during the
Korean War.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, A. Elizabeth "Betsy" Hamblin, of San Diego, Calif.; three sons , C. David Hamblin, of White house Station, N.J., William B. Hamblin, of Gardnerville, Nev., and James P. Hamblin, of Melbourne, Fla.; two brothers , John Hamblin and the Rev. Donald Hamblin, both of Swiftwater; a sister, Audrey Heise, of Swiftwater; two grandsons, Loren and Shawn Hamblin; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. from the Swiftwater United Methodist Church, Route 314, Swiftwater, with the Rev. Carol Campbell and Rev. Donald Hamblin officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery, Swiftwater.
There will be a viewing on Thursday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg, with Masonic services at 8 p.m. by the Pocono Lodge #780 F&AM.

Verlie B. Mancini

Verlie B. Mancini, 70, of Pocono Summit, formerly of Staten Island, died Tuesday, at home. Mrs. Mancini was born in Lumberton, N.C., and had resided in New York City for 30 years and West Brighten, Staten Island, for 11 years before moving to Pocono Summit in 1975.
She was the beloved wife of the late Matteo Mancini.
She was the owner of Snoopy's Bar in Staten Island, N.Y., before her retirement. While living in Staten Island, she was an active member of the Republican Party having served on several committees.
Mrs. Mancini is survived by 2 sons , Joseph Mancini of Mt. Pocono and Mathew Mancini of Conn.; 6 daughters , Catherine M. Earl of Franklin, N.J., Angelina Carozza, Staten Island, N.Y., Vileana Saldibar, Pocono Summit, Elizabeth Sourby, Spring Hill, Fla., Jennifer Winter, Staten Island, N.Y., Roxiann Mancini, Pocono Summit; 5 brothers , Mark, James, Grady, Henry and Erving Sampson, all of North Carolina; 5 sisters , Minnie Frances Holmes of Chicago, Lillian Grashan of Oregon, Monnie Jean Gray, Patricia Melesko and Ancie-Dale McDowell, all of N.C.; 17 grandchildren; and 1 great granddaughter. She was predeceased by her husband, Matteo Mancini in 1992 and 2 brothers , Stenson Sampson in 1997 and David Sampson in 1973.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. from the F. John Ramsey Funeral Home, A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception RC Church at 11 a.m. Interment following in Moravian Cemetery, Staten Island, N.Y. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Mary A. (MacDonald) Bradley, 80, died Wednesday at her home in Bartonsville. She was the wife of the late James J. Bradley.
She is survived by six children, James J. Bradley, Jr., of Bartonsville, William J. Bradley, of Stroudsburg, Joseph W. Bradley, of Saylorsburg, Edith L. McGinn and Kathleen Oney, both of Tannersville, and Mary B. Mizii, of King of Prussia. She was preceded in death by a son, John P. Bradley. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; a sister, Teresa Manuel, of Ridley Park; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graduate of West Philadelphia Catholic Girls High School (class of 1935) and Misericordia Hospital School of Nursing (class of 1939), she has been a resident of Monroe County since 1962. She owned and operated Bradley's Bartonsville Inn with her late husband and children.
She was active in many local organizations including past president of the Altar and Rosary Society of Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church, Tannersville and the Monroe-Pike Deanery of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women and Pocono Birthright.
There will be a viewing on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg. The rosary will be recited at 4 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Monday, at Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church, Route 611, Tannersville, with the Rev. Henry E. Zapotocki as celebrant. Burial will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham, Pa.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Building Fund of Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church, Route 611, Tannersville, PA 18372.

Walter F. Pedersen, Jr., 71, of Tannersville died on Monday, March 9, in Stroud Manor, East Stroudsburg.
He was born in Summit, N.J., and raised in Berkeley Heights, N.J. He lived in Tannersville for the last 18 years.
He is the son of the late Walter and Carmel (nee Venezia) Pedersen.
He is survived by his wife, June (nee Meeker) Pedersen; three children, Cindy Pekar of Butler, N.J., David Smith of Budd Lake, N.J., and Jennifer Taylor of East Stroudsburg; and 3 grandchildren.
He owned and operated J.W. Consignment Shop in Scotrun. He also was an accomplished musician and was the resident musician at Rod's Ranch House, Convent Station, N.J., for 12 years.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 13 at Little Flower Church, Berkeley Heights, N.J. Interment in St. Mary's Stony Hill Cemetery. Libro P. Siani, 82, of Pocono Farms, Tobyhanna, died Thursday, March 5th at Pocono Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 21, 1915 in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Phillip and Catherine Siani.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years Eleanor; two sons , Phillip of Cranford, N.J., and John of Tobyhanna; two daughter-in-laws; and six grandchildren, Nicole, Danielle, Gabrielle, Anthony, Samantha, and Melissa. He is also survived by two brothers , Matthew and Mario; and one sister, Mary.
He retired from Major Chevrolet in Long Island, N.Y., after 35 years.
He was originally from Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Deer Park, N.Y., where he resided for 10 years. He relocated to the Poconos five years ago.
Private funeral services were held on Monday, March 9, at Dooley's Funeral Home with Father Don Hummer officiating. Memorial donations may be sent in his memory to St. Ann's Church, Tobyhanna.

Mary Ann Caprioli, 67, of Effort, died Thursday in the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia. She was the loving wife of the late George A. Caprioli, who died in 1991 and was a devoted mother of nine children.
Born on April 5, 1930, in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Margaret (Carden) Kearney and had lived in the Poconos since 1972, moving here from Philadelphia. She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church, Tannersville.
She is survived by three sons , Thomas Caprioli of Port Republic, N.J., Michael Caprioli of Swiftwater, and George Caprioli of Shreveport, La; six daughters , Ann Marie Hawk of LaAnna, Margaret McCann of Springfield, Mary Ann Mikels of Canadensis, Regina Miller of Stroudsburg, JoAnn Caprioli of Tobyhanna and Lisa Caprioli of Mount Pocono; a brother, Thomas Kearney of Roslyn; eleven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church, Tannersville, with Father Henry E. Zapotocki as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg.

Darius H. "Sonny" Batchler, 60 of Mount Bethel, died on Friday at Easton Hospital. He is survived by his second wife, Mildred (Litz) of Mount Bethel. They were married 16 years last November.
Born in 1937 in Syndersville, he was the son of the late Verna (Past) and Claude E. Batchler Sr.
He was employed for 14 years as a laborer for Eastern Industries where he was still employed. He was previously employed by Hummers Paving and Batchler's Excavation which was owned by his late Father . He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 773.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by an ex-wife, Mary Sue (Montcalm) Albert of Bangor; two sons , Darius William Batchler of Philadelphia and Rodney Allen Batchler of Trenton, N.J.; a daughter, Cheryl Ann Gassler of Ackermanville; a step-son, Roy Struble of East Bangor; three step- daughters , Elba Altemose of Wind Gap, Iva Struble of Stroudsburg and Brenda Davis of Hackettstown, N.J.; two brothers , Claude Jr. of Portland and Paul of Bel Haven, N.C.; three sisters , Joan Magrosky of Canadensis, Evelyn LaPenna of North Bangor and Mary Ann Meyers of Bel Haven, N.C.; four grandsons; six step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Reed/Gaffney Funeral Home, 4 Lillian Lane, Johnsonville. Funeral follows at 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Sara A. Booth, 85, of East Stroudsburg, died on Saturday at the Pocono Medical Center. She was the wife of the late Ernest Booth.
She was born in East Stroudsburg, a daughter of the late Oscar and Nancy (Bush) George. She had bee a resident of Monroe County for most of her lifetime.
She and her late husband co-owned the former Maple Lane Tourist Center at Echo Lake in Middle Smithfield Township for 15 years.
She is survived by a daughter, Marion L. Barlieb of Beltsville, Md.; a brother, Ernest George of East Stroudsburg; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles A. Booth.
There will be no viewing. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Cremation will take place in the Arlington Crematory, White hall. Burial will be at a later date in the Sand Hill Cemetery.

Romaine J. (Green) Hershman, 60 of Saylorsburg, died on Friday in the Lehigh Valley Hospital Center. She was the wife of Donald L. Hershman at home. They were married for 37 years.
Born in Kunkletown, she was the daughter of Elaine (Borger) Smith of Effort and the late Dale Green.
She was a housewife by profession and was a member of Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Trachsville.
In addition to her husband and mother , she is survived by a son, Donald, at home.

Marcus Oliver Schaefer, 68, of Scotrun and Belleview, Fla., died Thursday in Munroe Regional Medical Center, Belleview, Fla. He was the husband of Ernestine (Litts) Schaefer to whom he had been married for over 48 years.
Born on June 3, 1929 in Nazareth, he was the son of the late Charles and Hilda (Bast) Schaefer and had lived in the area most of his life and was a part time resident of Belleview, Fla., for the past twelve years. He was a self-employed carpenter and builder.
He was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church, Stroudsburg, the Barger Lodge 325 F. & A.M., Stroudsburg, and the Chestnut Ridge Rod and Gun Club.
He served in the U.S. Navy.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters , Linda Lesoine, wife of Jack Lesoine, Jr., of Stroudsburg, Kitty Possinger, wife of Nyles Possinger of Stroudsburg, Tina Schaefer of Mohnton, Pa., and Amy Jo Schaefer of Bushkill; a son, Mark Schaefer of Los Angeles, Calif,; two brothers , Charles Schaefer, Jr., of Nazareth and Harold Schaefer of Stockertown; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the William H. Clark Funeral Home, with the Rev. Joseph Barth officiating. Burial will follow in the Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg.
There will be a viewing on Tuesday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
