Josephine Patricia Senderovitz, 83, of Newfoundland, died on Sunday at General Hospital, Wilkes Barre. She was the widow of John Senderovitz who died in 1957.
Born in Wilkes Barre, a daughter of the late Alexander and Jadwiga (Waskiewicz) Miskiewicz. She formerly resided in Nanticoke and Wilkes Barre and had owned and operated the Blue Bird Restaurant in Nanticoke until her retirement in 1980.
She was a member of St. Rita's Parrish Churches, Gouldsboro.
She is survived by two daughters , Marcia Dalmas of Newfoundland and Joan Haggstrom of Niceville, Fla.; a son, Ronald J. Senderovitz of Wilkes Barre; two sisters , Betty Gaval of Buffalo, N.Y. and Louise Feiner of Wilkes Barre; a brother, Stanley Miscavage of Thornhurst; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers , Frank and Anthony Miscavage and four sisters , Stella Martincavage, Helen Kopcho, Mary Barr and Adele Machiewicz.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Arthur J. Frey Funeral Home, Route 191, LaAnna. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua in Newfoundland. Interment will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Carverton, Pa.

Carolyn G. Dyda, 50 of Franklin, N.J., died on Monday, March 9 at home. She was the widow of Ronald C. Dyda.
Born in Roswell, N.M., a daughter of Rae Basile of Ormond Beach, Fla. and Natalino Basile of Netcong, N.J.
She was a member of St. Michael's in Netcong, N.J. She worked at Up Stream Farms in Franklin, N.J. as a manager.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by three sons , Ronald Chris Dyda of Stroudsburg, Craig and Michael Dyda of Franklin, N.J.; a daughter, Melissa Sweller of Franklin, N.J. and a sister, Marlyn Dean Basile whose address is unknown.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 12 at the Goble Funeral Home in Sparta, N.J. A private cremation and burial will be held on Monday, March 16 in Sparta.

Denise Rosa Smith

Denise R. Smith, 36, formerly of the Woodale section of East Stroudsburg, died Monday the 23rd of February, in her home in Penn Estates.
Born in New York City, she was the daughter of Esther Mendez and the late Louis Lleras, who died in 1961.
Denise was a member of the Libertarian Party. She was an AIDS activist. The organization, Dee's Dream Pennsylvania Coalition for Medicinal Marijuana, was inspired by her. Her voice on this issue can not be replaced.
Denise was employed by Shawnee on the Delaware, and later by Treetops in Bushkill as a licensed real estate agent. She also was an assistant manager at Things Remembered at the Stroud Mall.
In addition to her mother , she is survived by her husband, Al Smith; two daughters , Denise Aldea and Rachel M. Smith; a sister, Esther Mulligan, wife of Israel Clemente; four brothers , Richard Rosa, Walter Mulligan, John Mulligan and Tony Mendez.
Memorial services were held at Shawnee on the Delaware on Wednesday, March 4. Kurt and Debra Rawding presented the memorial service. Dee had incredible help from the Visiting Nurses Association, Neighbors of Monroe County and Hospice. They helped through the battle with AIDS. With them there were some victories.

Robert F. Short, 62 of Bangor, died on Friday in Easton Hospital. He was the husband of Barbara (Poyer) Short of Bangor. They had celebrated 34 years of marriage on Sept. 20.
Born in East Bangor, he was the son of the late Clarence A. and Dorothy (Bisher) Short and a 1953 graduate of Bangor High School.
He was employed by the former Blue Ridge Winkler Textile Inc. for 20 years. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bangor and served in the US Air Force.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons , James Tallon of Catasaqua, Bradley Short of Tampa, Fla., Christopher Short of Santa Fe, N.M. and Dennis Short of Easton; two daughters , Tracy Gloss of Union, N.J. and Stephanie Gruppo of Bangor; one sister, Deanna Keyser of Washington Twp., Pa. and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Short.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Reed/Gaffney Funeral Home, 4 Lillian Lane, Bangor, Pa. Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in the East Bangor Cemetery in East Bangor.

Lawrence G. Fragassi, 59, of Effort died Friday at the Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown. He was the husband of Flora (Dean) Fragassi. They had been married 40 years.
Born in McKeesport, he was the son of the late James and Ellen (Plaster) Fragassi. He had been a lieutenant in the Philadelphia Police Department serving for 24 years until his retirement in 1986 when he moved to the Poconos. Recently he had been a Guest Relations Officer at the Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg for the past 9 years.
He had served with the United States Marine Corp Reserve from 1956 to 1963. He was a member of the American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert.
He was a Free and Accepted Mason of the Jerusalem Lodge #506 in Philadelphia and was a Past Master in 1984.
In addition to his wife Flora, he is survived by two sons , James W. Fragassi of Philadelphia and Dean L. Fragassi of Philadelphia; one daughter, Bonnie Heisler of East Berlin, Pa.; one sister, Gilda Fragassi of Willow Grove; three brothers , Raymond Fragassi of Churchville, Chester Fragassi of Clairton, and Conrad Fragassi of Levittown; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Monday, at the Donald N. Gower Funeral Home, Inc., Route 209, Gilbert, with the Rev. Sherry Snead officiating. Interment will follow in the Buena Vista Cemetery, Brodheadsville. There will be a viewing from 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday, with Masonic Services at the funeral home.

Richard H. Quinn, 67, of Effort, died Wednesday in the V.A. Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre.
He was the husband of Arlene (Gould) Quinn at home. They had observed their 9th wedding anniversary last August.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, he was a son of the late John E. and Grace (Kingery) Quinn.
He had been a custodian at Pocono Medical Center for several years, retiring in 1990. Prior to that he had been a custodian at White Haven Center for 10 years.
He had been a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army where he had served for 24 years, serving two tours of duty in Korea, one tour in Germany, one tour in Canada and two tours in Viet Nam. He received the Purple Heart during his service in Korea.
He was a member of the VFW Home Association of Monroe County in East Stroudsburg, the VFW Post 2540 in Stroudsburg, the Disabled American Veterans Pocono Mt. Chapter 41 and the American Legion George N. Kemp Post 346 in East Stroudsburg.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons , Richard H. Quinn, Jr., of Allentown, John Quinn of Sciota, Robert Quinn of Tobyhanna, and David Quinn in California; two daughters , Dora Whittaker of Saylorsburg and Kathyryn Quinn in South Carolina; a stepson, Larry Wescott, Jr., of Effort; a stepdaughter, Wendy Garofalo of Saylorsburg; three grandsons; one step grandson; four step granddaughter; and five step great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday from the Kresge Funeral Home, Route 209, Brodheadsville, with the Rev. Jake Rule officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday in Hillside Cemetery, Effort. A viewing will be held on Monday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.

Merlen J. Stem, 83, of Bushkill, died Friday morning in his home. He was the husband of the late Louise (Mudd) Stem.
Born on July 1, 1914, in Stroudsburg, he was the son of the late Jacob and Sarah (Luxion) Stem and had lived in Morristown, N.J., for many years until moving to Bushkill twelve years ago.
He was a graduate of Wyoming Seminary, had worked for the Defense Supply Agency of the United States Government, and was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II.
Surviving is a niece, Amy Gibson of Bryantown, Md. He as predeceased by a sister, Anna M. Stem, who died in 1995.
Services will be private with cremation in the H.G. Smith Crematory in Stroudsburg.
