George E. Dorry, Sr.

George E. Dorry, Sr., age 88, 50 Tower Drive, Topton, Pa., formerly of Staten Island, N.Y. (from 1909 to 1976), Sterling, Pa. (from 1976 to 1997) and currently living at The Lutheran Home at Topton, died at 9:40 p.m., Monday, in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisburg Township where he was a patient since April 9.
He was the husband of Antoinette H. (Muenster) Dorry. Born in Staten Island, N.Y., he was a son of the late Frederick and Wilhelmina (Krause) Dorkowski.
He had worked as an accountant for the New York Terminal Warehouse Co., New York for 14 years retiring in 1972. Prior to that he had worked at the former Brown Oil Company as a controller for many years.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Staten Island, where he was a life time church council member. He was also a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Topton. He was a member of Tompkins Lodge No. 471, F. &. A. M., Stapleton, Staten Island, and the Tall Cedars of Lebanon.
In the 40's and 50's he had a band called "George Dorry and Orchestra".
He is survived by a son, George E. Dorry, Jr., White house Station, N.J.; a daughter, Diana A. Huth, New Hope, Pa.; 5 grandsons, Jeffrey Dorry, Scott Dorry, Kenneth Huth, Kyle Huth, and Glenn Huth; 3 great grandsons and 3 great granddaughter.
Funeral services are Thursday at 10:30 a.m. from the Rienert Room at The Lutheran Home at Topton, Topton, Pa. Interment will take place in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Staten Island, N.Y.
Friends may call 9:30 a.m. to the time of the service with Masonic services at 10 a.m. at The Lutheran Home.

Shirley Alexander
April 18, 1998
Shirley Alexander, 64, of East Orange, N.J., and formerly of Stroudsburg passed away April 18, 1998 in the East Orange General Hospital. She was the wife of Abraham Alexander who preceded her in death in 1986.
Born on May 15, 1933 in Stroudsburg, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Helen (Sayles) Amhurst. She had lived in Stroudsburg and attended Stroudsburg schools, but lived in East Orange for the last thirty-four years. She was of Lanape descent, and was a member of her ancestral built A.M.E. Little Bethel Church of Stroudsburg later becoming a member of Life Changing Ministries based in Mary Esther Florida, a ministry co-founded by her son-in-law and daughter, Elders Bruce and Sharon McCree, who will be officiating at her "Going Home Services." She was also a former Daughter of the Rose of Sharon Temple #357.
Other survivors include daughters , Sonya and Tamara Andrews; twin brothers , Harold and Sydnore Amhurst of Schenectady, N.Y.; sisters , Dorothy Holland of Stroudsburg and Joan Chambers of Stroudsburg; a special niece, Vivian Amhurst of Moorestown, N.Y.; five grandchildren including grandsons, Tyrone McCree of Corona Hills, Calif. and Anthony McCree of Denver, Colo.; one great grandchild, Tiffany McCree; many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews; and special friends, Hazel Gretchen and Mrs. Espy.
"Going Home Services" will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the Woody Funeral Home, Oakwood Ave., East Orange, N.J., followed by services at 1:30 p.m. in the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg, with Rev. Bruce McCree officiating. Burial will be in the Stroudsburg Cemetery.

John G. Bottjer, 44, of Tobyhanna, died of cancer Wednesday at his home. He was the husband of Beckie (Ellefson) Bottjer at home.
Born on April 17, 1954, in New Rochelle, N.Y., he was the son of George and Eleanor (Gerlach) Bottjer of New Rochelle, N.Y. He had lived in Tobyhanna for the past eleven years moving there from New Rochelle where he was last employed by Shannon Beverages.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his wife's parents, David and Marion Ellefson of Bismarck, N.D.; a son, John Bottjer at home; two daughters , Jerrilynn Bottjer and Jamie Bottjer, both at home; and a brother, George Bottjer of Littleton, Colo.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 8 p.m. in the William H. Clark Funeral Home, with Rev. Thomas E. Richards Jr. officiating. Burial will be on Monday in the Kennisco Cemetery, Valhalla, N.Y.
There will be a viewing on Friday from 7 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Barbara Jean Lynn Balabanoff

This past Thursday, April 23, Barbara Jean Lynn Balabanoff, age 40, of Stroudsburg, passed away at the Lehigh Valley Hospital. She was the wife of the late Peter John Balabanoff.
She was born in The Bronx, N.Y., a daughter of Samuel and Rose Tromba of Long Island, N.Y., and Sylvia (Ayala) Place of Perris, Calif. She had been a resident of Monroe County for the past 10 years. She was a graduate of Monroe County Vocational Technical School in 1996, as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by four daughters , Jessica, Lee, Ashley, and Nicole Balabanoff; and a grandson, Andrew Ryan Widmer, Jr., all of Stroudsburg; Also, two brothers , Louis Rosario of Long Island, N.Y., and Dominic Place of Perris, Calif.; six sisters , Marie Pepe, Josephine Facilla, and Louise Dettori, all of Long Island, N.Y., Patricia Werner of New York City, N.Y., Donna Place and Susan Place, both of Perris, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse at both the Praxis Nursing Home in Easton and Home Health Care of America in Stroudsburg for the past 2 years. Prior to that she worked at the Pocono Medical Center and Stroud Manor in East Stroudsburg.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Monday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg. Interment will be private.

William J. P. Davis, 53, of Bushkill, died Friday in the Lehigh Valley Hospital Hospice Center, Allentown.
Born on May 25, 1944, in Trenton, N.J., he was the son of Kathyn M. (O'Neil) Davis of Stroudsburg and the late William Hopewell Davis. He had lived in the area since 1960, moving here from Trenton.
He was a builder of homes, developer and realtor as well as president of Davis Homes, Inc. In 1958, he and his Father developed Castle Rock Acres in Marshalls Creek and in the 1970's, he developed the Chateau Mont De-Ville in Marshalls Creek, the first townhouse project in the Poconos. A member of the Monroe County Board of Realtors, he was the top salesman at Saw Creek in 1978 and 1979.
In addition to his mother , he is survived by three sons , Mark W. Davis of Marshalls Creek, and twin sons , John F. Davis and William Hopewell Davis, II, both of Winona Lakes, East Stroudsburg; a sister, Joyce M. Costanza of Castle Rock Acres, Marshalls Creek; two nephews, Louis J. Costanza and Michael Contanza, both of Marshalls Creek; and two great nephews, Michael Costanza and Christopher Costanza, also of Marshalls Creek. He is also survived by his first wife and friend, Susan E. Davis. He was preceded in death by a nephew, Christopher Jon Costanza and his former wife and business partner, Barbara Davis.
Graveside memorial services and burial will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg, with Rev. Robert Shrom officiating.

Grace G. Flynt, 95, of Tobyhanna, died Friday in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. She was the widow of James Flynt.
Born in Winston-Salem, N.C., she was a daughter of the late William and Cornelia (Alspaugh) Glenn.
She was a resident of Tobyhanna for the past 33 years moving here in 1966. Prior to that she lived in the Philadelphia area for 8 years and her early life in the North Carolina area.
For many years, she worked as a Nanny and she was of the Catholic Faith.
She is survived by a daughter, Cornelia E. Hunt of Tobyhanna with whom she resided; 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. from St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Thomas J. Sokolowski as celebrant.
Burial will be in the Stroudsburg Cemetery.

Paul Morabito

Paul Morabito, 65, of Bushkill, died on Wednesday, April 22 in his residence. He was the husband of Margaret (Konco) Morabito. The couple celebrated 37 years of marriage last January.
Born in Peekskill, N.Y., he was the son of the late Paul and Concetta (Carrabetta) Morabito. He was a resident of Pike County for the past 2 years. Prior to that he resided in Croton-on-Hudson for 35 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Korea.
He was employed as a printer for Higham Printing of Pleasantville N.Y., for 35 years before retiring in 1995.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons , Paul Morabito III of Berkley Heights, N.J., and Richard A. Morabito of Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.; two daughters , Margie Morabito of Huntington, N.Y., and Gina Morabito of Manhattan, N.Y.; a brother, Vincent Morabito of Verplanck, N.Y.; four sisters , Mary Morabito of Verplanck, N.Y., Rose Gallo of Yorktowne Heights, N.Y., Josephine Acevedo of Peekskill, N.Y., and Vera Laug of Bushkill; two grandchildren, Richie and Amanda Morabito.
A viewing will take place on Friday, April 24, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg. There will be a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. on Friday evening with the Rev. Thomas Sokolowski officiating.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 27, at 10 a.m. in the Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church in Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y. A viewing will take place on Sunday, April 26 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Carter Funeral Home, Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.

Bertha T. White , 91, formerly of East Stroudsburg, died on Wednesday, April 22, at the Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of the late Arthur M. White .
She was born in Germany, a daughter of the late Hinrich and Adeline (Rodenburg) Poppen. She had been a resident of Monroe County for the past 52 years. She was a member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in East Stroudsburg.
She owned and operated the former White 's Gift Shop at Eagle Valley Corners for 18 years, until she retired in 1973. She was a former volunteer for the Pocono Medical Center.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 27, at 10 a.m. in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg with the Rev. Phyllis M. Hammel officiating.
Interment will be in the Stroudsburg Cemetery, Stroudsburg. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Monday from 9 a.m. to the time of the service at Lanterman & Allen.

John Vanderweel
April 20, 1998
John Vanderweel of Canadensis, formerly of Pompton Lakes, N.J., died unexpectedly Monday afternoon following an auto accident. He had recently turned 79 in March.
Mr. Vanderweel was born and raised in Phillipsburg, N.J., and served in the U.S. Navy following his graduation. Upon discharge, he took up welding as his craft and was employed by the Curtiss Wright Corp. of Fairfield for over 25 years. Mr. Vanderweel also worked freelance for local companies such as Riverdale Cement Block and fashioned ornamental ironwork in his spare time.
He was an avid bowler and participated in several local leagues in the Riverdale/Wayne area. Mr. Vanderweel enjoyed traveling throughout the country with his family, touring most of the 50 states, including several visits to Hawaii.
Mr. Vanderweel was preceded in death by his wife, June, who passed away in 1996. He is survived by two daughters , Lois Blaine of Springfield, Pa., and Laura Clark-Curtis of Newton, N.J. He has three grandsons, five granddaughters and two great grandchildren. Additionally, Mr. Vanderweel is survived by cousins in the Pocono area including John E. and John R. Vanderweel.
Funeral arrangements are currently being planned with the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg. A memorial service will take place at a later date in the Canadensis area.

Fred Jay Beck

Fred Jay Beck, 67, of Mt. Bethel, died Wednesday in Easton Hospital. He was the husband of the late Agnes A. ( Schmidt) Beck who died in 1995.
Born on September 29, 1930 in Upper Mt. Bethel Twp., he was the son of the late Raymond and Esther (Rowe) Beck.
He was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Stone Church.
He was employed for the former Van D. Yetter, Inc., of Marshalls Creek, until retiring in 1993.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Johnsonville.
He is survived by his step-mother , Marie (Peterson) Ott Beck of Bangor; two sons , Dale Beck of Mt. Bethel and Michael Moyer of Mt. Bethel; one daughter, Jean Awigena of Bangor; four brothers , Charles Beck of Apache Junction, Arizona, Carl Beck of Portland, Roy Beck of Buffalo, Wyo. and Howard Ott of Johnsonville; one sister, Ruth Bartholomew of Duneden, Fla.; and three granddaughters. He was preceded in death by one sister, Bernice Wood.
Services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in the Trinity United Church of Christ, 612 S. Delaware Drive, Mt. Bethel. Burial will be in Centerville Cemetery in Stone Church.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service in the church on Monday.
