MARY HERR

Mary Herr, 78, of Irwin, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at Baldock Health Care Centre, North Huntingdon. She was born May 17, 1921, in Grass Flat, Pa., and was a daughter of the late Adam and Verona Matejcik Dresko. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and was retired from the Homestead Health Center-SHHS. Survived by daughters , Shirley Sidun of North Irwin, Barbara Byers of Jeannette, and Carolyn Chatlos of West Mifflin; sons , Dale Herr of McKeesport and Daniel Herr of Charleroi; sisters , Anna Nachman of DuBois, Helen Fenush, Rose Fenush, and Elizabeth Guenot, all of Grass Flat; brothers , John Dresko and David Dresko, both of South Carolina; 22 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Friends received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the DREW J. GILBERT FUNERAL HOME INC., Boston, Elizabeth Township. A blessing service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Gerald Mikonis officiating. Interment will be in Round Hill Cemetery, Elizabeth Township.

NIOMA R. (PINKERTON) MASON-SLY
Nioma R. (Pinkerton) Mason-Sly, 51, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, as a result of an auto accident. Wife of Michael J. Sly; mother of Charles L. Mason III, Nioma Grace and Patrick E. Nicholson. Daughter of Ruth Baldinger Runco and the late Melvin L. Pinkerton Sr. Sister of Ramona C. Dunn, Melvin L. Pinkerton Jr., and Jesse Pinkerton. Grandmother of Chad, Heather, and Joshua Mason. Also six nephews and four nieces; and loved by all. She was a volunteer firefighter in Marshall Township. Memorials to American Lung Association. Friends received Tuesday 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until time of last call by Marshall Township Volunteer Fire Department at 8 p.m. at the GEORGE A. THOMA FUNERAL HOME INC., 10418 Perry Highway, McCandless. Interment private.

PAUL G. MOCZYDLOWSKY

Paul G. Moczydlowsky, 80, of Latrobe RD3 (Trauger), died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Jan. 25, 1920, in Crabtree, a son of the late Frank and Waldislava (Karasiewsky) Moczydlowsky. Prior to retirement, he worked at Overly Manufacturing in Greensburg, and was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Calumet. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah J. (Duda) Moczydlowsky; and two brothers , Carl and Joseph Moczydlowsky. He is survived by four children, Carol Moczydlowsky at home, Paul Moczydlowsky and wife, Cindy, of Ballston Spa, N.Y., Mrs. Bernard (Paula) Cutlip of Pleasant Unity and Dennis Moczydlowsky at home; four grandchildren, Amy Sorbera and husband, Peter, of Ballston Spa, N.Y., Brandee Cutlip of Lake Ridge, Va., Michael Moczydlowsky of Ballston Spa, N.Y., and Brian Cutlip of Pleasant Unity; a brother, Walter Moczydlowsky of Jeannette; a sister, Amelia Moczydlowsky of Crabtree; and several nieces and nephews. Friends were received at the GAUT-BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., Pleasant Unity, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and will be received Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Calumet. Interment will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant Township. The family suggests memorial contributions to the ARC Westmoreland, RD12 Box 179, Greensburg, PA 15601.

WILLIAM D. MOZEIK SR.

William D. Mozeik Sr., of Swissvale, on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000. Beloved husband of Elizabeth A. (Ertman) Mozeik. Father of William D. Jr. of Swissvale and Cheryl L. and her husband, Tony Bilitski, of California, Pa. Grandfather of Sarah and Andrew. Brother of George G. of New York and Norman G. of North Versailles. Brother-in-law and uncle to many beloved family members. He retired as a master plumber for the Swissvale area with 50 plus years. He was a member of the R.W. Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons, the Swissvale American Legion Post #63, and the Swissvale VFW #6679, where he was a member of the Shuffle Board League. Also, he was a member of the Swissvale and Braddock Hills volunteer fire departments. Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the THOMAS L. NIED FUNERAL HOME INC., 7441 Washington Ave., Swissvale. Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Christ Lutheran Church and School, 400 Barclay Ave., Forest Hills, PA 15221. BARBARA C. TONKOVIC PAULCHECK

Barbara C. Tonkovic Paulcheck, 94, of Penn Township, formerly of Port Vue, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000. She was born Sept. 15, 1905, in McKeesport, the daughter of the late George and Barbara Ropar Tonkovic. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael E. Paulcheck; a son, Edward C.; and three brothers , John Tonkovich, Joseph and George Tonkovic. Mrs. Paulcheck was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, McKeesport. She is survived by a son, Richard G. and wife, Martha (Woatich) Paulcheck, of Warwick, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the EDWIN N. WOLFE FUNERAL HOME INC., Export, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Export, with Father Phillip Pribonic as celebrant. Interment private. The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

JAMES D. VANYO

James D. Vanyo, 74, of Washington Township, formerly of Penn Hills, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000. Beloved husband of Jayne Berg Vanyo. Father of Gregory of Mt. Pleasant, Kathryn Matulay of Mt. Pleasant, Kim Fiesta of York, Kristine Vanyo-Weinberg of Hollywood, Fla., and Karolynne Griffiths of Plantation, Fla. Stepfather of Laura Lawson of Pittsburgh and JoEllen Abrams of Philadelphia. Brother of Anne Klick of Tucson, Ariz., Florence Gluvna of West Mifflin, Andrew of Tucson, Ariz., Regis of Rillton and Bernadette Fox of Germany. Also survived by nine grandchildren. Friends received Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the SOXMAN FUNERAL HOMES LTD./ROTH CHAPEL, 7450 Saltsburg Road, Penn Hills. WILLIAM J. WALKER

William J. Walker, 45, of Latrobe, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Feb. 17, 1955, in Latrobe, a son of Nancy P. (Fowler) Walker of Youngstown, Pa., and the late William W. Walker. Bill was a 1973 graduate of Latrobe High School, received his bachelor of science degree from St. Francis College in 1977, and was currently employed by Latrobe Area Hospital. He was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church in Latrobe and served as a home visitor for the church, was a member and current president of the Derry Lions Club, and was an avid Boston Celtic fan. In addition to his mother , he is survived by his wife, Paula (Sandacz) Walker; two stepsons, Christopher W. Peffer and his wife, Wanda, of China Grove, N.C., and Ronnie L. Peffer, currently a student at Slippery Rock State University; his brother, Michael T. Walker and his wife, Teresa, of Latrobe; two sisters , Susan Poponick and her husband, Joseph, and Kathleen Martz, both of Latrobe; his grandparents, Regis and Florence Kent of Ligonier; his mother -in-law, Gerry Sandacz of Latrobe; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Friends were received at the HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Bethany United Methodist Church with his pastor, the Rev. August B. Twigg, officiating. Interment will follow in Unity Cemetery, Unity Township. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethany United Methodist Church, 2415 Laveen St., Latrobe, PA 15650.

AGNES SCOTT (GARRITANO) BUYNY

Agnes Scott (Garritano) Buyny, of North Braddock. At 10:10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2000, an angel dressed in the purple uniform of a UPMC Braddock X-ray escort led her to Heaven from her hospital bed. She was the wife of the late Andrew Buyny; mother of Frank Law and wife, Carol, Robert Garritano and wife, Joyce, Marlene Garritano, Theresa Provenzano and husband, Jim, and the late Anthony Garritano; sister of Dorothy Novak, Charles, Sherman and Gloria Jean Jarrett and the late William Jarrett; also six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the RONALD V. LUCAS FUNERAL HOME, corner of Bell and Jones avenues, North Braddock. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Good Shepherd Church Saturday at 10 a.m. Interment will be in the Braddock Catholic Cemetery.

THELMA M. DeCARO

Thelma M. DeCaro, 82, of Latrobe, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000. She was born July 6, 1917, in New Stanton, a daughter of the late John and Zetta Sams Myers. She was a member of Holy Family Church, Latrobe, and its Rosary Society. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence L. DeCaro; a daughter, Bonita Mullen; and a sister, Mabel Wolfe. Survived by a son, Lawrence E. DeCaro and his wife, Susan, of Youngwood; a sister, Emmy Yourish of Fremont, Calif.; also survived by four grandchildren, Robin Mullen Park and her husband, Chuck, of Brookville, Pa., Cyndee Mullen Pack and her husband, Jim, of Georgia, Roxanne Mullen Donohoe and her husband, Rege, of Latrobe, and Carole Mullen Levay and her husband, Scott, of Ligonier; 10 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Family Church. Interment Youngwood Cemetery. Holy Family Rosary Society will recite the rosary at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

CAROL ANN DETAR

Carol Ann Detar, 53, of Dover, died at 3:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at York Hospital, York, Pa. Wife of James L. Detar, the couple had observed their 14th wedding anniversary on May 24, 1999. Mrs. Detar had been a clerk for Turkey Hill Minit Markets Inc., Dover, Pa., for three years. Member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Dover. Born in Mendota, Ill., Feb. 23, 1947, a daughter of the late Robert L. and Edna Blakemore Hanners. She also leaves two daughters , Dawn Parks and Michelle Parks, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; and a sister, Marianne Turk of Chicago, Ill. No viewing. Funeral service to begin at 10 a.m. Monday, March 6, at EMIG FUNERAL HOME, 47 N. Queen St., Dover, Pa. Interment at 1 p.m. Monday at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Pa., with the Rev. Yvonne Wesley-Rohrbaugh, interim pastor of Calvary Lutheran Church, Dover, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 924 N. Colonial Ave., York, PA 17403.

ADOLPH FOSSI

Adolph Fossi, 81, of Lowber, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at the Baldock Health Care Centre, North Huntingdon. He was born Feb. 16, 1919, in Blythdale, a son of the late Achilles ``Kelly" and Olivia (Fontanesi) Fossi. Mr. Fossi ``Adolph" was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II with the rank of private 1st class. Prior to his retirement, Adolph was employed by the Monongahela Valley Hospital as a custodian. He was a member of St. Edward Roman Catholic Church, Herminie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Fossi; and three brothers , Aldo, Alfred, and Nello Fossi. Mr. Fossi is survived by his daughter, Barbara Ann Glover and her husband, James, of Harrison City; a brother, Adam Fossi, and a sister, Mrs. Nelli Martinelli, both of Blythdale; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Herminie, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at a time to be announced. Interment will follow in the West Newton Cemetery.

JOHN H. HALDEMAN

John H. Haldeman, 82, of North Huntingdon, formerly of Forest Hills, died peacefully Wednesday morning, March 1, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Janette, and three children, John H. Haldeman Jr. and his wife, Patricia S. Haldeman, of Ho Ho Kus, N.J., Beverly Haldeman Timmons and her husband, Dr. James M. Timmons Jr., of Kershaw, S.C., and Shirley Haldeman Crawford and her husband, James T. Crawford, of Allison Park, Pa. Also surviving John are two stepchildren, Colleene Woomer of Alexandria, Va., and Jerry Woomer of Concord, Calif. Born March 8, 1917, in Forest Hills, he was a son of the late Herschel and Edna Haldeman. One of six children, John is survived by two sisters , Elizabeth L. Slocum of Fox Chapel and Louise H. Richardson of Churchill; two brothers , Arthur S. Haldeman of Churchill and William E. Haldeman of Okeechobee, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Elizabeth Slocum Haldeman; and his brother, Edward F. Haldeman of Pittsburgh. John, co-owner with his brother, Arthur, of Forest Hills Motor Company, was a Ford automobile dealer for 40 years until retirement in 1986. He was a director of the National Automobile Dealers Association; president of the Pennsylvania Automobile Dealers Association, Pittsburgh Automobile Trade Association, and the Forest Hills Rotary Club. John Haldeman was graduated from Allegheny College with a B.A. in Economics in 1938. He was employed by Westinghouse until drafted into the Army in 1940, commissioned in armored infantry at Fort Knox, served five years in World War II with two years in England, France, Belgium and Germany. He was a captain, commanding a Reconnaissance Company in the 3rd Armored Division, credited with European, African and Middle Eastern campaigns with five battle stars, wounded three times, awarded the Silver Star, Purple Heart with two Oak Leaf Clusters, and presented the English military Cross by Gen. Sir Bernard Law Montgomery. John was a former quarterman of the University Club, president of Edgewood Country Club, and an avid golfer. He was a member of the Forest Hills Presbyterian Church. Friends will be received Friday only 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at WOLFE MEMORIAL INC., FOREST HILLS CHAPEL, 3604 Greensburg Pike, (412) 731-5001. CAROL TETI KELLY

Carol Teti Kelly, 57, of Shelocta, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, in Indiana Hospital, Indiana, Pa. She was born June 10, 1942, in Philadelphia, a daughter of the late Joseph and Nina (Marano) Teti. Dr. Teti was a Professor of Music at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) and organist of the Zion Lutheran Church, Indiana. She began organ study in her native city of Philadelphia with James E. Bryan, F.A.G.O. Academic degrees, including the Doctor of Musical Arts, were earned at the University of Michigan, where she was a pupil of Dr. Marilyn Mason. While there, she was awarded the Stanley Medal, the highest undergraduate honor in music. She studied with Anton Heiller in Vienna under an Austrian government grant, and for a year was organist at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Rome, Italy. She served for four years on the music faculty of James Madison University, Harrisonburg, Va., before assuming her present post. Dr. Teti appeared in recital as organ soloist and in ensemble. She had performed at national conventions of the Organ Historical Society and of the American Guild of Organists. Since 1984, she had concertized with Professor Byron Pearson, trumpet, of the Oberlin College Conservatory, a duo which has performed throughout the United States. Another frequent collaborator was her IUP colleague, Professor Christian Dickinson, trombone, with whom she had recorded an album of music. She also enjoyed accompanying her husband, tenor and civil engineer, William J. Kelly. IUP appointed Dr. Teti as research associate for 1988-89 and in the same year presented her with the Distinguished Faculty Award for Creative Arts. She was in the process of compiling a volume of hymn intonations and descants for organ. Surviving are her husband, William J. Kelly of Shelocta; three stepchildren, Kathleen Hoffman and husband, David, of Santa Ana, Calif., Steven Kelly and wife, Cindy, of Indiana, Pa., Michael Kelly and wife, Annette, of Norfolk, Va.; two grandchildren, Danielle and Christopher Hoffman; and siblings, Amelia J. Teti of San Francisco, Calif., Nina Ciccone of Portland, Ore., Charles Greiman and wife, Lynne, of Philadelphia, and Ginny Greiman and husband, Steve Bergstrom, of Boston, Mass. Friends and family are invited to attend her memorial service at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 4, at the Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Roy P. Washill officiating. Private interment in Oakland Cemetery, Indiana, Pa. Her family requests, memorial contributions be made to the IUP Foundation for Organ Scholarships, Department of Music, 101 Cogswell Hall, IUP, Indiana, PA 15705.
