Helen I. LaBar

April 23, 1998

Helen I. LaBar, 89, formerly of Canadensis, died on Thursday, April 23 at the Julia Ribaudo Nursing Home in Lake Ariel. She was the wife of the late Herbert LaBar.

She was born in Cherry Valley, a daughter of the late Andrew and Mamie (Miller) Batchler. She was a member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in East Stroudsburg.

Most recently, she had been a domestic helper for many area families; prior to that, worked at Mahlame Investments in Milford and prior to that, on the assembly line at McGraw Edison of East Stroudsburg.

She is survived by a granddaughter, Jaye Ann Miller of Pocono Lake and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Jay H. Miller.

There will be no viewing. Graveside memorial funeral services and burial will take place on Wednesday, May 6 at 1 p.m. at the Wooddale Cemetery, Wooddale with the Rev. Phyllis Hammel officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 226 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301.

Edward J. Morin

April 24, 1998

Edward J. Morin, 73, formerly of Levittown, died Friday at Lower Bucks Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Born in Cranston, RI, he was a 40 year resident of Levittown. He spent his summers in Mt. Pocono and his winters in Titusville, Fla. He was employed as a tool and die maker at the Budd Company's Hunting Park plant for 35 years until his retirement in 1984. He was also employed at Lower Bucks Hospital in the Security Dept.

An avid golfer, he belonged to several golf courses including Pocono Manor, the Bensalem Country Club and the Great Outdoors Country Club in Titusville, Fla. He won many local golf tournaments and achieved 8 holes-in-one during his life. Ed had a great knowledge of golf and shared it with his fellow players by teaching them the finer points of the game. He also gave golf lessons at Morrisville Golf Farm.

He was a longtime member of St. Michael the Archangel Parish; an active Eucharistic Minister and member of the Rosary Club at St. Theresa's Parish in Titusville, Fla.; an usher and member of the Rosary Group at St. Mary's of the Mount Parish in Mt. Pocono; a member of the Knights of Columbus and a Navy Veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine B. (Nee Adams) and a grandson, Michael Susavage. He was the loving Father and Father -in-law of: Kathleen & Charlie Weldon of Titusville, Fla.; Edward J., Jr. & Mary Lou Morin of Harrisburg; Nancy Lake of New Milford, Pa.; Marie & Ed Meyer of Bristol; Joanne & John Gleason of Mount Pocono; Michelle & Kevin Whitaker of Mount Holly, N.J. and Jacquelyn & Blaine Mastin of Upper Marlboro, Md.; his in-laws, John & Elsie Adams of Folsom, Pa; four brothers ; two sisters ; 17 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the James J. Dougherty, 2200 Trenton Rd., Levittown. Funeral services will be Tuesday from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home. A funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Church. Interment follows in Resurrection Cemetery.

Ruth S. Frey

April 25, 1998

Ruth S. Frey, 87 of Bangor, and formerly of Saylorsburg, died on Saturday in the Slate Belt Nursing and Rehab Center, Bangor.

She was the wife of the late Kermit W. "Butch" Frey.

Born in Northampton, she was a daughter of the late Charles H. and Emma (Reinert) Reiter.

She had been a clerk at the Bethlehem Steel Corp. Records Retention Center in Saylorsburg for 22 years, retiring in 1976.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the Kresge Funeral Home, Route 209, Brodheadsville. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. William Zimmermann officiating. Burial will be in Buena Vista Cemetery, Brodheadsville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Zion United Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, HCR 1, Box 4, Brodheadsville, PA 18322.

April 25, 1998

Donald P. DePue, 66, of Effort, died Saturday in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg.

Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Fred and Hazel (DePue) Schoenberger.

He had owned and operated Don DePue Nationwide Insurance Agency in Brodheadsville for the past 32 years and was co-owner and operator of Uniglobe West End Travel Inc. in Brodheadsville for the past 11 years. He had won numerous insurance company awards for sales distinction and client service.

He was a member of Salem St. Paul Lutheran Church in Kresgeville.

He was a graduate of Lehighton High School.

He was a charter member and former chief of the Polk Township Volunteer Fire Co. in Kresgeville and a lifetime member of the Lehigh Fire Co. #1 in Lehighton. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. in East Stroudsburg and was a charter member of the West End Rotary Club. He had also served on the Board of Directors of the West End Ambulance Assn. and he was a member of the Eastern Travel Associates.

He is survived by his companion, Wanda Martin of Effort, with whom he resided and the co-owner of Uniglobe West End Travel; three sons , Kim D. DePue of Lehighton, Gregg D. DePue of Andreas and David P. DePue of Kresgeville; a brother, Charles Anstead of Bath; and four grandchildren, Jacquelin Mae, Matthew Donald, Samuel Gregg and William Gregg DePue.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, from the Kresge Funeral Home, Route 209, Brodheadsville, with the Rev. Lynn Rothrock officiating. Interment will follow in Kresgeville Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Polk Township Volunteer Fire Co., P. O. Box 174, Kresgeville, 18333.

Valantine George Buckle

April 26, 1998

Valantine George Buckle, 64, of Dingmans Ferry, died at home on Sunday. He was a retired milkman for Manchester Cream Co., Bronx, N.Y. He was a member of the Golden Age Club, Milford, and the Tri-State Mid Hudson Chapter 82nd Air Borne, Port Jervis, N.Y.

He was born on June 30, 1933, in Queens, N.Y., to Valantine and Gladys (Orman) Buckle. He was the widower of Dolores (Vitcherfoski) Buckle who predeceased him in 1993.

Survivors include one daughter, Cecelia Krach of Bushkill; three sons , John Buckle of Yonkers, N.Y., Paul and Guy Buckle of Dingmans Ferry; one sister, Judy Cirigliano, of Fla.; three brothers , Douglas, Bruce and Victor Buckle of Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Buckle will be held on Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Stroyan Funeral Home, Inc., 405 W. Harford St., Milford, with the Rev. Niels Nielsen officiating.

Friends may call at Stroyan Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m.

Interment will take place in Indiantown National Cemetery.

Memorial may be made to Tri-State Mid Hudson Chapter of 82nd Air Borne VFW, Port Jervis, N.Y.

Jennie B. La Grue

April 27, 1998

Jennie B. La Grue, 74, of Pittston, died Monday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Born August 26, 1923 in Pittston, she was a daughter of Mary Bellanca La Grue and the late Cataldo La Grue. She was a lifelong resident of Pittston.

She was a graduate of Pittston High School Class of 1941.

She worked in the local garment industry and was a member of the I.L.G.W.U.

She was a member of St. Rocco's R.C. Church in Pittston.

In addition to her mother , she is survived by a sister, Mrs. Frank (Dorothy) Scherer of Pocono Summit; a brother, Guy La Grue of Pittston; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles La Grue.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. at Graziano Funeral Home, 700 Twp. Blvd., Pittston Twp., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Rocco's RC Church in Pittston.

Interment will take place at St. Rocco's Cemetery, Pittston Twp.

Family and friends may call Wednesday evening, 6 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home.

John T. Dally, Sr.

April 26, 1998

John T. Dally, Sr., of Pen Argyl, died Sunday in Lehigh Valley Hospital.

He was the president of Anthony Dally and sons , Inc., a quarrier and fabricator of slate products in Pen Argyl, from 1951 until 1992. He served as Mayor of Pen Argyl for 16 years, beginning in 1965 and ending in 1981.

Born May 22, 1921, in Pen Argyl, he was the son of Catherine Dally of Pen Argyl and the late Anthony Dally.

He was a lifelong member of Saint Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Pen Argyl.

He was a 1939 graduate of Pen Argyl High School and earned a degree in Government and Law from Lafayette College in 1949. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Air Force and flying 17 missions as a bombardier and navigator in Italy and Germany.

He served as Vice President and Director of Pen Argyl National Bank, Director of Lafayette Bank and on the advisory boards of Saint Elizabeth's Catholic Church, the Pen Argyl Salvation Army and the Minsi Trails Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He served for many years on the Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton Airport Authority and was a founding director and director emeritus of Northamption County Community College. He served as President of Structural Slate Company for 20 years and served as a director of the company for 47 years.

He also served on the Pen Argyl Athletic and Park Association, the Northampton County Economic Development Committee and was a founder and past Chairman of the Slate Belt Municipalities Association. He was a member of the Pomfret Club of Easton and Northampton Country Club.

An avid hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman, he was a member and past president of Easton Anglers, Pike County.

He and his wife, the former Marge Sagness, celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in August, 1997. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Karin A. Curcio of Pen Argyl; two sons , State Representative Craig A. Dally of Bushkill Township and John T. Dally, Jr., of Wind Gap; six grandchildren; a sister, Norma Abbott of Pen Argyl; a brother, Alfred Dally of Pen Argyl; and nieces and a nephew. He was predeceased by two sisters .

A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, 200 South Broad Street, Nazareth. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. until the time of the services at the church. There will be no viewing. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Elizabeth's Catholic Church, Pen Argyl. Burial will be in Saint Elizabeth's Cemetery. The Guerro & Ruggiero Funeral Home, 126 E. Pennsylvania Avenue, Pen Argyl, is in charge of arrangement.

Family requests memorials to the Wind Gap Ambulance Squad, Saint Elizabeth's Catholic Church Building Fund or Saint John's Lutheran Church, all in care of the funeral home.

April 28, 1998

Edith E. Bell, Stroudsburg, formerly of Taylor, died Tuesday at St. Luke's Hospital, Bethlehem, following a long illness. She was 73 years of age.

She was born in Scranton and was the daughter of the late Arthur and Anna Davis Evans. She was a member of the United Baptist Church in Taylor and a member of the Taylor Hose Co., #2 Auxiliary.

She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Madigan of Stroudsburg with whom she resided; a son-in-law, Joseph; and two granddaughters, Kelly and Katie. She is also survived by three brothers , Roy and Robert, both of Scranton, and Arthur of Taylor; three sisters , Marion Rodway of Peckville, Ruth Mailen of Scranton and Nancy Evans of Scranton. She was predeceased by two brothers , Gordon and Bert and three sisters , Peg Schmidt, Lois Cook and Jayne Bernardi.

The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. from the Jacob Davis Funeral Home, 422 S. Main Street, Taylor, Pa. Interment will be in Milwaukee Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m.

April 27, 1998

Eleanor Wash, 70, of Tobyhanna died Monday in Community Medical Center, Scranton. She was the wife of the late Michael R. Wash who died in 1993.

Born on June 2, 1927, in Taylor, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Veronica (Kokinda) Sago and had lived in Tobyhanna for the last fifty years. She had worked with her late husband in his business, Excell Plumbing in Tobyhanna until his death and she also owned and operated the Toby Mart in Tobyhanna for ten years. She worked as a real estate agent for 25 years for Century 21 and was consistently the top selling salesperson in the Mt. Pocono office.

She was a member of St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church, Tobyhanna, and the Monroe County Realtors Association.

She is survived by a daughter, Veronica C. Talpas of East Stroudsburg; a son, Michael E. Wash of Tobyhanna; two granddaughters, Melinda Talpas and Amanda Talpas, both of East Stroudsburg; three sisters , Ann Kilcullen and Irene Clark, both of Tobyhanna, and Ella Stettler of Tannersville; a brother, David Sago of Reeders and several nieces and nephews.

A Private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the convenience of the family with Father John B. Boyle as celebrant, followed by a private burial in the Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Medical Center Intensive Care Unit, 1800 Mulberry Street, Scranton 18510.
