Miss Ellen M. Lawler of 108 William Street, Pittston, died Monday in Milford Manor in East Stroudsburg after a lengthy illness.
Born in Pittston, she was the daughter of Helen Murphy Lawler and the late Thomas M. Lawler.
She graduated from St. John the Evangelist High School in Pittston in 1973. She attended Marywood College and graduated from East Stroudsburg State College with a degree in physical education in 1977. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston.
She was employed as a Dispatcher for Federal Express in Moosic for the past 15 years.
In addition to her mother , she is survived by a sister, Mary Ann Hines, East Stroudsburg and a brother, Thomas M. Lawler, Alexandria, Va; two nieces, Tricia and Eileen Hines and a nephew, Matthew William Lawler.
Due to Holy Week Services, viewing will be held on Tuesday at the Donnelly-Callahan Funeral Home, 802 Susquehanna Avenue, West Pittston, only between the hours of 7 to 9 p.m. There will be a funeral Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. John The Evangelist Church, William Street, Pittston. Interment will be in Parish Cemetery, Pittston.

Paul H. Christman, 62, of Lehighton, died on Saturday in Gnaden Huetten Hospital in Lehighton.
Born on May 25, 1935, in Dotters Corner, Monroe County, he was the son of the late Floyd and Eva (Jones) Christman. He was preceded in death by a sister, Kay Fritzinger, Weissport.
He worked many years as a heavy equipment operator for Henning Excavation of Albrightsville and JJR Enterprises of Mt. Effort.
He is survived by his wife, Sue (Manini) Christman at home; a step-daughter, Jodie Manini and two step-grandchildren of Bangor; three brothers , Chester "Sonny" of Lehighton, Floyd "Bever" of Saylorsburg and Larry of Packerton; three sisters , Mae Kline of Gilbert, Fern Scitney of Lehighton and Joyce Christman of Kunkletown and many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by seven children from his first marriage to Nancy (Keiper) Christman of Pocono Summit. They are Troy Christman of Morgantown, W.V., Hope Christman-Smith, and his twin daughters , Emily and Sara Christman, all of Kunkletown, April Disbrow of Browns Mills, N.J., Paul Christman of Palmerton, Amy Do of the U.S. Army stationed in Germany, and five grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Schmidt Home Inc., 202 West Street, Wind Gap. Services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Plainfield Cemetery.

Mr. Paul Edward Smith, 43, of Highway 109 South, died Thursday, December 11, 1997, at Randolph Hospital after a sudden illness.
Mr. Smith was born November 14, 1954, in Stroudsburg, to Marshall Ralph and Golden Hermaine Meckes Smith. He was the owner of Smith's Automotive in Denton.
Surviving are his wife, Vicky Smith, at home, a daughter, Melissa Smith and Carrie Smith, both at home; brothers , Marshall R. Smith, Jr., of Long Pond, Gordon E. Smith and Steven A. Smith, both of Pocono Lake; a sister, Diane Serfass of Kunkletown; and one grandchild.
A graveside memorial will be conducted at 1 p.m. at Pocono Lake Cemetery, Pocono Lake, Saturday. The family will receive friends immediately following.

Carl M. Carman, 76, of Effort died Monday in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.
He was the husband of the late Dorothy I. (Fitzgerald) Carman.
Born in Ironton, Ohio, he was a son of the late Howard W. and Alberta (Beckett) Carman.
He had worked as a security guard for Rank, Inc., in Saw Creek for 8 years. Prior to that he had been a civilian employee of the U.S. Army working as a metallurgist at the Frankfort Arsenal in Philadelphia for 35 years and for 5 years at the Picatinny Arsenal in Dover, N.J., before retiring in 1986.
He had received two masters degrees in metallurgy, one from Ohio State University in 1946 and one from Drexel University in 1976.
He was a Navy veteran of WW II.
He was of the Methodist faith and he was a member of the Pocono Kennel Club and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
He had lived in Philadelphia for 35 years and in Wharton, N.J., for 5 years before moving to Effort in 1985.
He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Christy of Effort; two granddaughters; a grandson; a grandson-in-law and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday from the Kresge Funeral Home, Route 209, Brodheadsville, with the Rev. Gerald Miller officiating. Burial will be in Philadelphia Memorial Park and will be at the convenience of the family. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
Memorial donations may be made to the Pocono Kennel Club.

Mary Alice Kohl, 94, of Port Jervis, formerly of the Stroudsburg area died Monday at the home of Barbara Baechtold, her daughter with whom she was residing.
Born in Stroudsburg, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Nettie (Heller) Bentzoni. She was living with her daughter in Port Jervis for the past 9 years and prior to that she lived in the Stroudsburg, Monroe County, area all her life.
She also with her husband, Carl, owned and operated the former Colonial Diner and the Colonial Bowling Lanes both of Stroudsburg for many years.
She was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ of Stroudsburg.
She is survived by two daughters : Phoebe Jane Jacques of Stroudsburg and Barbara Baechtold of Port Jervis, N.Y.; 9 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two grandsons, William C. Jacques and Daniel P. O'Donnell; 2 sisters ; 3 brothers ; a step daughter, Betty Williams; a great grandson; and a great granddaughter.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Stroudsburg Cemetery. Interment will follow the service. The Rev. Kevin Fruchtl will officiate.

Harry J. Pierce, 80, of East Stroudsburg, RD #8, died on Wednesday, April 8, at the Stroud Manor. He was the husband of Jean M. (Counsellor) Pierce, at home.
He was born in Buselton, Pa., a son of the late Harry J. and Jenny (Sayre) Pierce. He was a Lutheran.
Prior to his retirement in 1982, he was employed by Van D. Yetter of East Stroudsburg as a service man for 18 years; prior to that he worked for the Philco Corp. of Philadelphia for 16 years. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1336 of East Stroudsburg; the National Rifle Association; and the North American Fishing Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Harry J. Pierce, III, of Henryville; 2 daughters , Mary Jane Hackney of Laurel Springs, N.J. and Deborah Hendricks of Missouri; and 2 grandchildren.
Private funeral services and cremation will be held at the convenience of the family.

Casimir A. Perkowski, 56 years, of Allentown, formerly of East Stroudsburg, died April 9, 1998 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown.
Born in Derby, Conn., he was the son of the late Stanley and Stefanie (Lencewicz) Perkowski.
He was a member of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church in Allentown. His professional affiliations included the Society of Industrial Microbiologists, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, American Chemical Society, New York Academy of Sciences and ASTM.
He received a M.S. in Biology in 1964 from Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., and a B.S. in Biology in 1962 from Alliance College, Cambridge Springs, Pa. His graduate studies included courses in Biochemistry, Immunology, Parasitology and Genetics at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J.
From 1996 to present, he was the Director of Technology and Pharmaceuticals and Fine Chemicals Division for Foster Wheeler, USA Corp., Clifton, N.J. From 1993 to 1996, he was V.P. of Operations for PROMEGA Corp., Madison, Wisc. From 1987 to 1993, he was Director of Business Development/Principal Biotechnologist for Process Division United Engineers and Constructors, Inc., Philadelphia. 1985 to 1987, he was Manager, Technology of H-R International, Inc., Edison, N.J. and 1983 to 1985 Director of Operation for Cell Products, Inc., of New Brunswick, N.J. From 1975 to 1983, he was Production Manager for Hoffman-LaRoche, in Belvidere, N.J. and from 1969 to 1975 Section Head, Technical Operations Group for E.R. Squibb and sons , New Brunswick, N.J. 1965 to 1969, he was Associate Professor of Biology at Alliance College, Cambridge Springs, Pa., and 1964 to 1965 was a biology instructor at Limestone College, Gaffney, S.C.
From 1988 to present, he was a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of BioPharm; 1987 to present, a member of ASME Bioprocess Equipment Standards Committee and Executive Committee; and 1995 to present, a member of Industrial Advisory Board to the Joyce Erdman Center for Manufacturing & Technology Management at the University of Wisconsin Graduate School of Business.
He is survived by his wife, Janet C. (Kowalski) Perkowski; a daughter, Stefanie C., wife of Charles H. Kowitz of Mt. Home, Idaho; two sons , Paul C. of Colorado Springs. Colo., and Leon J. of Panama City, Fla.; and a sister, Theresa Judson of Naugatuck, Conn.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 7 p.m, Tuesday, April 14, 1998, at St. Thomas More Church, 1040 Flexer Avenue, Allentown. Viewing will be from 6 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, at the church.

Margaret B. "Peg" Turn

Margaret B. "Peg" Turn, 78, of Bushkill, Lehman Township, Pike County, died on Monday, April 13, 1998, in her home. She was the wife of Ralph G. Turn, Jr. at home.
Born in Commerce, Ga., a daughter of the late W. Arnold and Ruby (Hight) Burns. She was a resident of Pike County for many years.
She was a 1941 graduate of Valdosta State College in Valdosta, Ga., with a teaching degree in biology. She taught for 1 year at Dry Branch Elementary School in Dry Branch, Ga. She taught in Macon Elementary School in Macon, Ga., for 2 years. She taught 6th grade for East Stroudsburg School District in the Middle Smithfield and J.M. Hill schools for 17 years, and took pride in the ability of all of her students to handle snakes. She received her master's degree in guidance counseling from Lehigh University in 1974. She also taught piano in her home in Bushkill for several years.
She was a life member and past president for the American Association of University Women, Pocono branch. She was past president of Bushkill Fire Company Auxiliary and past president of the Bushkill Garden Club. She was a member of Bushkill Reformed Church, past superintendent and teacher of the Sunday school class.
She had a cancer operation in the Cleveland Clinic in 1975 with many subsequent operations and has been fighting cancer ever since.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Gregory Turn of Bushkill; a daughter, Jean O. Turn of Newton, Ga.; a grandson, Andrew Turn of Bushkill; a brother, William H. Burns of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Jean LeGrand of Conyers, Ga.; several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by a sister, Olive Ann Burns who authored the book and movie "Cold Sassy Tree."
Graveside Funeral and Committal Services will be held on Monday, April 20 at 1 p.m. in Sand Hill Cemetery, Shoemakers, with Rev. Steven J. Sayer officiating.
There will be a viewing on Sunday, April 19, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington St., East Stroudsburg.
Cremation will take place in the H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg.

David Bryan Greenfeld, Ist., 19, of Smithfield Township, died on Saturday, April 11, 1998, in Bushkill, Lehman Township, Pike County.
Born in Long Island, N.Y., a son of Harvey and M. Chris (Gallagher) Greenfeld at home. He was a resident of Monroe County for the past 15 years.
He was employed as a roofer in Port Jervis, N.Y., since graduation from East Stroudsburg High School in 1997. He was a member of the ESHS Varsity Football Team and an avid hunter and sportsman.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters , Danielle Greenfeld of Atlanta, Ga., and Ryan Greenfeld at home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 15 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church, 906 Main Street, Stroudsburg with Father Carmen Perry as celebrant.
Viewings will take place on Tuesday, April 14 from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington St., East Stroudsburg, PA 18301.
Committal will take place in Sand Hill Cemetery, Shoemakers, PA.
