Emma Neddernut, 83 of Bushkill, died on Sunday at her home.
Born in Hanover, Germany, she was the wife of the late Heinz Neddernut who died in 1986.
She had lived in Bushkill for the past two years and prior to that, lived in Mountainhome for 17 years. In her early years, she resided in Florida where she and her husband owned and operated a restaurant and service station.
She was of the Pentecostal faith.
She is survived by two sisters , Alma Voges of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Elfriede Zisenis of Hanover, Germany.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. in the Mountainview Mausoleum Chapel, East Stroudsburg with the Rev. Robert Shrom officiating. Entombment will follow the services.

Dorothy D. Dzienisiewski

Dorothy D. Dzienisiewski, 82 of Freehold, N.J., formerly of Newfoundland, died on Saturday at the Freehold Nursing Home, Freehold, N.J. She was the widow of John Dzienisiewski who died on Nov. 3, 1994.
Born in New York City, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late John and Dorothy Dalura. She had resided in Newfoundland for 23 years prior to moving to New Jersey a year ago.
She had been employed as a teacher's assistant by the New York City School System.
She attended St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Newfoundland.
She is survived by two daughters , Joanna Roth of Canadensis and Ellen Dennis of New York City, N.Y.; and a son, Paul Dzienisiewski of Howell, N.J.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Pine Grove Cemetery, South Sterling with the Rev. Martin Boylan officiating.

Anthony J. Albano, 40, of Old Forge, formerly of the Poconos, died on Sunday at Community Medical Center after an illness. He was the husband of Shirley Biegel for 18 years.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., a son of Nancy DeScallo of Scranton and the late Louis Albano. He was a member of St. Ann's Church in Scranton and an avid fisherman and softball player. Prior to his illness, he was employed by St. Ann's Monastery.
In addition to his wife and mother , he is survived by a daughter, Anne Marie Albano at home; four brothers , Louis of Staten Island, N.Y., Jerry of Queens, Frank of Emerald Lakes, and Salvatore of Scranton; a sister, Natalie of Scranton; nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by three brothers , Patrick, John and Stephen and a sister, Roseann.
A viewing will be on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home, 1240 St. Ann St., Scranton. Funeral services on Wednesday at 7:45 a.m. at the funeral home and Mass at 8 a.m. at St. Ann's Church, St. Ann Street, Scranton. Interment in St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, Long Island.

Martha K. Potter, 91 of Upper Mt. Bethel Twp., died on Sunday at home after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late James B. Potter.
Born in Slateford, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mayme (Shipps) Kennedy.
She was a member of the Portland United Methodist Church. She was active in the community as part of the efforts to establish Portland Ambulance Corps. from the late 50s to 1980. She raised approximately $30,000 for the ambulance corps. through rummage sales. She was honored in 1978 as the Person of the Year by the Portland-Mt. Bethel Lions Club for her work to support the ambulance corps. She was a lifetime member of the Ambulance Corps; an honorary member of the Portland Vol. Fire Co.; a member of the Portland Senior Citizens Organization; and upon her 90th birthday, she was celebrated by Rep. Len Gruppo for her lifetime contributions to the community and the Commonwealth of Pa.
She is survived by a son, John of Slateford; a daughter, June Felker of Stuart, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. One brother, Robert J. Kennedy and two sisters , Hettie Kennedy and Harriet Harris predeceased her.
Calling hours will be 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Reed/Gaffney Funeral Home, 4 Lillian Lane, Johnson. Services will be held on Wednesday at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Portland.

Shirley E. Diaz, 66, formerly of N. Catasauqua, died on Saturday, March 28, at the Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg.
She was born in Northampton; a daughter of the late Thomas E. Gogle and Elsie A. (Reinert) Gogle. She was a self-employed nursing companion for 17 years until her retirement in 1996.
She was of the Protestant faith and a member of the Grace U.C.C. Church in Northampton. She was a former choir member and former member of the Altar Guild at Grace U.C.C.
She is survived by two daughters , Robin Lutcher of Brodheadsville; Shawn Diaz of Londonberry, NH; a son, Craige Diaz of Stroudsburg; three sisters , Patricia Brenkacs of North Catasauqua; Jacqueline Younger of Catasauqua; Dorothy Guildner of Kunkletown; a brother, Thomas Gogle of Orefield, and three grandchildren.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Monday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Schisler Funeral Home, 2119 Washington Ave., Northampton. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Grace U.C.C. Church, 9th and Lincoln Ave., Northampton with the Rev. Sally Zelker officiating. Internment will be at the Egypt Cemetery, White hall Township.

Myrtle E. Hilliard, 90 of Nazareth, died on Friday in Muhlenberg Hospital Center, Bethlehem. She was the widow of Harold G. Hilliard.
Born in Brodheadsville, she was the daughter of the late Eugene A. and Anna S. (Bonser) Serfass.
Mrs. Hilliard was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society; Ladies Aid Quilting Group at Grace Lutheran Church, East Stroudsburg; and the Missionary Society of Pen Argyl. She was a former member of the PTA and Educator Association. She was of the Lutheran faith.
She graduated from Bangor High School in 1924 and was certified as a teacher in 1926 from East Stroudsburg Normal School. She taught in various one-room schoolhouses in Northampton County from 1926-1940; Bangor and Pen Argyl districts and finally Stroudsburg School District until her retirement after 36 years.
She is survived by three daughters , Marilyn Hagley of Delta Junction, AK, Donna Hilliard of Santee, Calif. and Nancy Hilliard of Stroudsburg; a son, Paul Hilliard of Lyndon, Vt.; two sisters , Grace Hammond of North Haverill, N.H. and Mabel Weiss of Stroudsburg; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Grace Hilliard in 1940.
A viewing will be Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Bartholomew Schisler Funeral Home, 211 E. Center St., Nazareth. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Centerville Cemetery, Upper Mt. Bethel Twp.

Harold W. "John" Singer

Harold W. "John" Singer, 65, died March 30, 1998, at his home in Dumfries, Va. He was born in Stroudsburg, Feb. 16, 1933, the son of Herbert, Sr., and Ruth Singer.
He was a highly decorated Marine Corp veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars and was awarded three Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars. He retired as a Gunny Sgt. in December, 1972.
Upon completion of his military service, John served as Chief of Police for the Town of Ashland from December 1972 to June, 1974. He then worked at Loring Air Force as a civil service employee from 1976 to 1990.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, a life member of the VFW LeBlanc -Junkins Post #9699 of Ashland and the Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Lorene (Orcutt) Singer of Dumfies, Va.; two daughters , Tina M. Cooper of Fredericksburg, Va., and Brenda L. Wood of Woodbridge, Va.; two sons , John W. Singer and Robert P. Singer, both of Dumfries, Va.; three brothers , Herbert Singer, Jr., of Lakewood, Fla., Robert Singer of Shawnee-on-the-Delaware, and Tommy Singer of Bath. He was also a devoted grandfather to his three grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Carol R. Singer, and his Father , Herbert Singer, Sr., and by a brother, Paul Singer of Stroudsburg.
Relatives and friends may call at the Stimson-Ouellette Funeral Home, 37 Exchange St., Ashland, 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday and from 2 p.m. until the time of the services on Friday. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 3 p.m. on Friday. Interment will be in the Ashland Municipal Cemetery later this spring.

Charles Arthur Knight, 48, of Tobyhanna, died Monday, March 30, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Interstate 80, Stroudsburg. He is survived by his wife, the former Vivian Irizarry.
Born in the Bronx, New York, he was the son of the late Charles and Dorothy (Heim) Knight.
He was decorated with the Purple Heart for service during the Vietnam War where he served in the United States Army. He was currently employed with the New York City Transit Authority.
Also, surviving is one son, Charles, at home; and three daughters , Elizabeth Knight, Kimberly McNamara of the Bronx, N.Y., and Christine Knight, at home. He is also survived by three grandchildren.
Friends may call on Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the James M. Hook & Co., Funeral Directors, 35 Sterling Road, Mt. Pocono.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 2, at 10:30 a.m., St. Ann's Church, Tobyhanna. Fr. John B. Boyle will officiate. Interment immediately following at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pa.

Dolores D. Matinchek Strauss, 67, of Pocono Summit (formerly of Middletown, Pa.) died Monday at her home. She was the wife of Oliver P. Strauss.
Born in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of the late Frank J. and Pearl M. Bush Matinchek. She was a resident of Pocono Summit for the last 30 years. She was of the Catholic faith. She was a retired waitress of Johnnies Restaurant, Pocono Summit and Pines Cafe, Lake Naomi.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Rev. Robert L. Strauss of Fairless Hills; a daughter, Candace L. Watson of Henryville; four brothers , Frank E., James E., Ronald L. and Stanley W. Matinchek, all of Middletown; two sisters , Agnes Fuoti of Middletown and Ruth Ann Ierley of Elizabethtown; and four grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, at the Frank E. Matinchek & Daughter Funeral Home, 260 E. Main Street, Middletown, Pa., with the Rev. Robert L. Strauss, Rev. Blaik J. Westhoff and Rev. Louis P. Ogden officiating. Viewing from noon until time of service at the funeral home.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

Alfred E. Kassner, 82, husband of Mabel L. Vester Kassner, died at his home on March 24, 1998.
He was the son of the late Herman and Marie Kassner of East Stroudsburg.
Mr. Kassner was a 1932 graduate of East Stroudsburg High School and was employed by Hughes Printing for 43 years.
He lived a very active sports life, playing or managing more than 14 different baseball teams, including the Strouds, Reeders, Analomink, Taylorsburg, Kunkletown, and Mt. Pocono. He helped organize Little League and Babe Ruth League baseball in East Stroudsburg. Mr. Kassner was a member of Glenbrook Golf and Country Club and co-chaired the men's handicap committee for 16 years. An avid hunter and fisherman, he will be especially remembered for his expert ability in the art of fly-tying.
He served with the U.S. Army Infantry in WWII until his discharge in 1945. He was a lifelong member of the East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church, President of Local 943 of the International Typographical Union for 16 years, a members of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Local 1106 for 50 years, P.B.O.E., and CLU.
Survivors include his wife, Mabel Kassner of Calabash, N.C.; a sister, Helen Feltham of Sebring, Fla.; a daughter, Lillian and a son, Robert.
A memorial service and interment will be held in Prospect Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army of East Stroudsburg.
