Budd J. Thomas

March 8, 1998

Budd J. Thomas, 59, of Gilbert, died Sunday in his home. He was the husband of Diane (Seip) Thomas at home. They had celebrated their 7th wedding anniversary in September.

Born in Roseto, he was a son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Morgan Thomas.

He had been a bus driver for the MCTA for the past year. Prior to that he had been a fork lift operator at Banner Metals in Stroudsburg for 14 years and he had also worked at BeauFab Mills in Stroudsburg.

He was a US Army veteran and a member of the American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert and the VFW in Palmerton. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Slatington.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Marsha Halstead; three stepsons, Daniel Seymour of Kunkletown, Arthur Seymour, Jr., of Fogelsville and Shawn Seymour of Orefield; two brothers , Danny Thomas of Washington , N.J., and Pete Thomas of Easton; two sisters , Louise Frey of Easton and Mary Holland of Bangor; and 7 grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday from the American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert with Chaplain Larry Lutz officiating. There will be no viewing.

Edward C. Miller

March 8, 1998

Edward C. Miller, 71, of Saylorsburg, died on Sunday in the Pocono Medical Center.

Born on May 11, 1926, in East Stroudsburg, he had lived in the area all of his life. He had worked as a truck driver for Consolidated Freight and was a member of the Teamsters Local 773, Allentown.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by a daughter, Brenda Miller Lutz of Saylorsburg; a stepson, Warren "Pudge" Miller of Sciota; a stepdaughter, Patricia Miller of Saylorsburg and three grandsons, Jason Lutz and Travis Miller of Saylorsburg and Jesse Lutz of Kunkletown.

There will be a viewing on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main St., Stroudsburg. Graveside services will be on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in Buena Vista Cemetery, Brodheadsville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brenda Miller Lutz, R.R. 4 Box 4297, Saylorsburg, PA 18353.

Pearl M. Hinkle

March 7, 1998

Pearl M. Hinkle, 77, formerly of Mt. Bethel, now residing in the Masonic Home in Elizabethtown, died on Saturday at her home. She was the wife of the late E. Walter Hinkle who died in December 1997.

Born on July 10, 1920 in Mt. Bethel, she was the daughter of the late Arch and Ruth (Bartow) Hartzell. She was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Stone Church and a 1939 graduate of Bangor High School.

She is survived by a step-daughter, Candice Schaeffer of Watha, N.C.; two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister, Reta Phillips.

Calling hours will be on Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Reed/Gaffney Funeral Home, 4 Lillian Lane, Johnsonville. Services will be on Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery in Portland.

Memorials may be made to the Trinity United Church of Christ, 612 S. Delaware Drive, Mt. Bethel, PA 18343.

Yolanda Valencia

March 1, 1998

Yolanda Valencia, 22, of Tannersville, died Sunday, March 1 in the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Va., after a spirited seven month long fight against the disease leukemia.

Born in New Jersey on October 14, 1975, she was the daughter of José and Carmen Valencia. She attended the School of the Performing Arts in Newark, New Jersey and East Stroudsburg High School. She was involved with Women's Resources in many areas and was a member of St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church in East Stroudsburg.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by two sons , José and Joshua and their Father Jeremy Verwey of Tannersville; one sister, Diana Ortiz; two brothers , José Valencia Jr. and Alex Valencia; and several nieces and nephews.

Her family invites her friends to join with them as they celebrate and give thanks for the beauty, strength and creativity of her life at a Memorial Mass on Thursday, March 12 at 11 a.m. in St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church in East Stroudsburg with Father Thomas Sokolowski as celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Women's Resources, 615 W. Main St., P.O. Box 645, Delaware Water Gap, PA 18327.

Shirley A. Borger

March 6, 1998

Shirley A. Borger, 51, of RD 2, Kunkletown, died Friday in her home. She was the wife of Lloyd A. Borger at home. They had celebrated their 9th wedding anniversary in February.

Born in Kunkletown, she was a daughter of the late Wesley A. H. and Florence (Smith) Borger.

She had been a floor lady at Classic Casuals in Kunkletown for 20 years, retiring in 1984.

She was a member of St. Matthew's United Church of Christ in Kunkletown and she was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three brothers , Gilbert, Leonard and William Borger, all of Kunkletown; a sister, Faye Kibler of Kunkletown; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Leo Borger.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday from the Kresge Funeral Home, Route 209, Brodheadsville, with the Rev. Karen Easterly and the Rev. Robert Harting officiating. Burial will be in the St. Matthews Cemetery, Kunkletown. A viewing will be held on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pocono Mountains Kidney Foundation, P. O. Box 504, Stroudsburg, 18360.

Dorothy K. Budge

February 14, 1998

Dorothy K. Budge, 89, of Saylorsburg died Saturday in Pocono Medical Center. She was the wife of the late Clarence Budge.

Born in Saylorsburg, she was a daughter of the late Samuel D. and Cecelia (Kibler) Newhart.

A graduate of East Stroudsburg Normal School, she had been a teacher in the Wind Gap Elementary School for 37 years, retiring in 1971.

She was a life member of the National Education Assn. and a member of the PA State Education Retired Teachers Assn. She was a life member and past president of the Northampton County Education Assn.; a charter member and past secretary of the Alpha Alpha Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and the organizer and first president of the Progressive Women's Club in Saylorsburg. She sang with the Melodettes, a singing group associated with that club. She was a member of the Patriotic Order of America Camp 208 in Saylorsburg and a past district president of the PO of A. She was a charter member and a treasurer for many years of the Blue Ridge Hook and Ladder Co. Ladies Auxiliary, Saylorsburg.

She was a member of Christ Hamilton United Lutheran Church, Hamilton Square and a former member of the Mt. Eaton Church where she had sung on the church choir.

She is survived by two sons , Samuel Budge of Freeland and Earl Budge of Stroudsburg; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Kresge Funeral Home, and on Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. in the covenant house of the Christ Hamilton United Lutheran Church. Funeral services on Thursday at 2 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Ralph Boyer and Fred Robertson officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Saylorsburg.

February 14, 1998

Margaret A. Storm, 79, of Neola died on Saturday morning at her home.

She was born in Jackson Township, the daughter of the late James G. and Myrtie N. (Kinney) Possinger.

She was a lifelong resident of Monroe County.

She was employed for several years by Caesar's Diner in Wind Gap.

She is survived by four sons , Robert J. Storm of East Stroudsburg, James L. Storm Jr. of Kresgeville, Larry E. Storm and Daniel A. Storm, both of Neola; three daughters , Janet M. Schuler of Neola, Shirley A. Harmon of Covington, Va., and Gloria J. Shook of Saylorsburg; 20 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces.

There will be a viewing on Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. from Thomas Funeral Home, 401 N. Fifth St., Stroudsburg. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Appenzell Cemetery, Appenzell.

Memorial donations may be made to the Monroe County Society for the Prevention Of Cruelty to Animals Auxiliary, P.O. Box 23, Stroudsburg, Pa. 18360.

Arietta W. Hoke

February 15, 1998

Arietta W. Hoke, 78, of East Stroudsburg, died on Sunday at Pocono Medical Center.

She was born in East Stroudsburg, a daughter of the late Frank and Maggie (Singer) Hoke.

She had been a lifelong resident of Monroe County.

She was the custodian for the Temple of Israel in Stroudsburg for 48 years.

She is survived by a brother, Frank Hoke of East Stroudsburg and several cousins.

Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Raymond Poortstra officiating. Interment will be in Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg.

Harold E. Altemose

February 16, 1998

Harold E. Altemose, 90, of Saylorsburg R.R. 1, died Monday in his home. He was the husband of Pearl (Kresge) Altemose at home. They had celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary in November.

Born in Sciota, he was a son of the late Alvin and Emma (Bender) Altemose.

He had been a dairy farmer for more than 40 years before retiring in 1967. He had also hauled milk from the local farms to the dairies for more than 40 years. He had also worked for Worthington Mowers in Stroudsburg for 15 years. After retiring from farming, he worked as a custodian at Chemical Leaman Tank Lines for six years and at Pocono Central Catholic High School in Cresco for five years.

He was a member of Mt. Eaton Church in Saylorsburg where he had belonged since 1920. He was a former deacon of the church and had sung in the church choir. He also had played the violin in the Plainfield Lutheran Church Orchestra.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons , LeRoy Altemose of Saylorsburg R.R. 1 and Clair Altemose of Nazareth; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Forest Altemose.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday from Mt. Eaton Church in Saylorsburg with the Rev. Thomas Richards officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Eaton Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service from the church.
