Asa Mackerley III, 60 of Saylorsburg, died on Saturday at home. He was the husband of Joyce (Bonk) Mackerley. They had been married for 21 years.
Born in Newton, N.J., he was the son of the late Asa Mackerley Jr. and Olive (Hardy) Mackerley.
He had worked for Daicel Polymer as and Extruder Operator in Wharton, N.J. for two years. Prior to that, he had worked as a Line Mechanic for Hercules, Inc. in Kenvil, N.J. for 30 years. He was an Army veteran.
He was a member of the New Convenant World Outreach Church in Sciota.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Scott Baylor of Phoenixville, Pa.; six daughters , Debra, wife of Rev. E. Philip Stettler of Saylorsburg; Sandra, wife of Rev. Mark VanBuskirk of Wilkes-Barre; Robin, wife of Anthony Baldwin of Saylorsburg; Jacqueline, wife of Jeffrey Frazier of Stuart, Fla.; Collette, wife of John Dugan of Port St. Lucie, Fla. and Jamie Mackerley of Saylorsburg; two sisters , Ethel Aumick of Franklin, N.J. and Joanne Oliver of Layton, N.J. and 13 grandchildren.
Viewing will be 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Donald N. Gower Funeral Home, Route 209, Gilbert. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Stephan Reed and the Rev. Marie Reed officiating. Interment will be in Buena Vista Cemetery, Brodheadsville.

Catherine Keller Miller Hangen
February 13, 1998
Catherine Keller Miller Hangen, of Willow Street, formerly of Stroudsburg, died Friday evening in Lakes Manor where she and her husband, John A. Hangen, have been residents.
Born in Lindhurst, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Luther Keller and the late Mary (Scheller) Keller Sacrosin and had lived most of her life in Stroudsburg, until her later years when she lived in Unionville, Conn., Atlantis, Fla. and Lancaster.
She had worked in the advertising department of the former Wyckoff's Department Store in Stroudsburg; was the Welcome Wagon Hostess in Stroudsburg and retired from the Civil Defense Office of the Monroe County Courthouse.
She was a member of the United Church of Christ, Willow Street and the Monroe Chapter 99 Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a former member of the Stroudsburg Junior Women's Club; the Stroud Community Women's Club and the Farmington Woods Women's Club, Unionville, Conn.
Surviving in addition to her husband are: a step-son, John H. Hangen of Burlington, Conn.; a step-daughter, Carol H. Tuma of Harleysville; several step-grandchildren and several cousins. She was predeceased by her first husband, Earle R. Miller, a former teacher in the East Stroudsburg School District.
Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday from the William H. Clark Funeral Home, with the Rev. William E. Dennis officiating. Cremation will take place in the H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg with private burial in Stroudsburg Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 9 North 9th Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.

Guy E. Chaderton

Guy E. Chaderton, 69 of Blakeslee, died on Sunday in his home. He was the husband of Arline (Webberson) Chaderton at home. They had celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary in October.
Born in New York City, he was a son of the late Norman and Editha (Payne) Chaderton.
He had been an X-ray technician in various New York hospitals for 38 years, retiring in 1991.
He was a World War II Navy veteran.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons , Cameron and Paul Chaderton, both of Blakeslee; a daughter, Nancy Evans of Blakeslee; a brother, William Chaderton of Bronx, N.Y.; and six grandchildren.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date.

Lita "Lee" (Kirkwood) Forster, 67, of Brewster died Wednesday at Beth Israel Hospital, Boston, Mass.
Born and raised in Bethlehem, she graduated from Liberty High School in 1948. She raised her family in Pennsylvania and later in Connecticut.
She and her husband moved to West Barnstable, Mass., and later Brewster, Mass., from Newtown, Conn., in 1995.
Her hobbies included gardening, decorating, photography, cooking and she loved to spend time with her grandchildren.
She was the life of William G. Forster of Brewster; mother of Craig Hendricks of Shawnee-on-Delaware, Jill Coxe of Westport, Conn., and Page Ransford of Canton, Mass; step-mother of Gregory Forster of Fla., Todd Forster of Conn., and David Forster of Okla,; and sister of Charles Kirkwood of Shawnee-on-Delaware. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth, Mass. Interment will follow in Quivet Cemetery, East Dennis, Mass.

Wallace E. Baird Sr.

Wallace E. "Bear" Baird, Sr., 48 of Sciota, died Friday in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg.
He was the husband of Ella (Morgan) Baird at home. They had celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary in July.
Born in Paterson, N.J., he was a son of Wallace R. Baird of California and Doris (Heider) Baird of Hopatcong, N.J.
He was an auto technician at Slate Belt Buick in Wind Gap for the past six years.
He was a life member of the National Rifle Assn. and he was a member of the Single Action Shooting Society in Henryville.
He had lived in New Jersey his entire life before moving to Sciota in 1984.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by a son, Wallace E. Baird, Jr., of Bartonsville; two daughters , Mary Megna of Stroudsburg and Cheryl Baird of Sciota; and a sister, Carol Baird of Hopatcong, N.J. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce Baird.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday from the Kresge Funeral Home, Route 209, Brodheadsville, with the Rev. Samuel Ramnit officiating. Burial will be in Cherry Valley Methodist Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Linda A. Ryther

Linda A. (Binkley) Ryther, 36, of Phoenix, Ariz., and formerly of Saylorsburg, died Friday in Ven-Cor Hospital, Phoenix.
Born in East Stroudsburg, she was a daughter of Nevin Binkley of Brodheadsville and Barbara (Martin) Binkley of Saylorsburg.
She was a motorcycle mechanic at Titan Motorcycles Shop in Phoenix.
A sergeant 1st class and a Desert Storm veteran, she had served in the United States Army military police for 13 years.
She was a 1979 graduate of Pleasant Valley High School.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a son, Steven Ryther of Saylorsburg; a brother, Robert Binkley of Tampa, Fla.; a sister, Cindy King of Tuscon, Ariz.; her paternal grandmother, Claire Binkley of Scotrun; her godfather, Chester Flower of Scotrun; and her godmother, Betty Martin of Freeland.

Donald Charles Holmes

Donald Charles Holmes, 80, of Tobyhanna, died Tuesday afternoon at home. Born in Allegheny County, he was the son of Robert William and Ruth (Kurtz) Suckling (later Holmes), both deceased.
He received his BS (ChE) from the University of Pittsburgh in 1938, participated in wartime research, and received the first MS (ChE) degree ever awarded by Northwestern University in 1944. Between VE and VJ days, he joined Shell Development Corp in the San Francisco Bay area as a pilot plant engineer until 1951 when the first breakthroughs in the use of computing machines for scientific analysis inspired his enthusiasm for computer systems and software design. In 1967, after holding management positions with Caltex Oil (New York) and Standard Oil of California (San Francisco), he joined the Advanced Business Systems group at Touche, Ross, Bailey & Smart, New York. In 1968, he formed his own company in New York to develop and support PROFORMA ( R ), an early user-interactive business management system for planning, budgeting and financial analysis. With the advent of desktop computers in the early 1980's, he turned his attention to private consulting and custom software development for retail merchandising, accounting, brokerage and investment fund management. In 1987, he and his wife built their house in Pocono Farms, where they have lived since 1988. In addition to his professional activities, he was an accomplished photographer, woodworker, potter, glassblower, and furniture and jewelry designer.
At the time of his death, he was a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, American Arbitration Assn., Rotary Club of the Stroudsburgs, International Torch Club of the Stroudsburgs, Monroe County Historical Assn., and the Monroe County Arts Council.
He is survived in Tobyhanna by Dorothy Ellen (North) Holmes, his wife of 55 years and Ellen Gail Holmes, his daughter, both at home; his grandchildren, Todd Michael Butcher of Seattle, Wash., and Faye Marie Butcher of Los Angeles, Calif.; and one cousin, Richard C. Lightcap of Pinehurst, N.C.
A Celebration of Life gathering to honor him will be held at the Monroe County Historical Assn., Stroud Mansion, 900 Main Street, Stroudsburg, on Saturday, March 14, from 2:30 p.m.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Rotary International Foundation, c/o Rotary Club of the Stroudsburgs.

Russell W. "Hon" Serfass

Russell W. "Hon" Serfass, 91 of Saylorsburg, died on Saturday in his home.
He was the husband of Alberta (Heller) Serfass at home. They had celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary in September.
Born in Saylorsburg, he was a son of the late James E. Sr. and Clara (Newhart) Serfass.
He had been a foreman for Penn DOT for thirty years, retiring in 1972. Prior to that, he had worked for the Blue Ridge Water Co. and the Atlas Clay Mines, both in Saylorsburg.
He was a member of Christ Hamilton United Lutheran Church in Hamilton Square.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by nieces and nephews and their children.
There will be no viewing. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. at the Kresge Funeral Home, Route 209, Brodheadsville. Burial in Lakeview Cemetery in Saylorsburg.

Vivian F. Ziegler
March 8, 1998
Vivian F. Ziegler, 82 of Marshalls Creek, died on Sunday in Brookmont Health Care Center, Chestnuthill Township. She was the wife of Roy J. "Jim" Ziegler at home.
She was born in Jersey City, N.J., a daughter of the late John J. and Anna (Neumann) Fredericks. She was a resident of Monroe County for the last 22 years. Her prior residence was in Pompton Lakes, N.J.
She was formerly employed as a bookkeeper for New York Telephone in New York City for 10 years and for MacGregor Sportswear Co. in Haskill, N.J. for 8 years.
She was a member of the Mountain Manor Golf Club in Marshalls Creek.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two brothers , John H. Fredericks of Wanaque, N.J. and James E. Fredericks of Indiantown, Fla.; and four nieces.
A graveside funeral service and committal will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the First Reformed Church Cemetery, Pompton Plains, N.J. There will be no viewing. A memorial service will be held at a later date in the Mountain Manor Golf Club, Marshalls Creek.
