Mark A. Stephens, 18 of Jollytown Road New Freeport, PA died at 4:30PM Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003 from injuries received during an Arena Cross Motorcycle Race at the Greene Co. Fairgrounds. He was born July 12, 1984 in Washington , PA He is the Son of Joseph V. and Veronica Jean Stephens of New Freeport, PA Mark was a graduate of Waynesburg Central High School class of 2002. He was also a graduate of Greene Co. VoTech having studied Auto Mechanics. He was a member of the American and National Motorcycle Associations. For the past 8 years he raced MotorCross Racing and was going to turn Pro in two weeks at a race in Harrisburg. Martha M. Kelley, 63 of Waynesburg, PA died at 10:30PM Saturday Nov. 29, 2003 at the Greene Co. Memorial Hospital. She had been in her usual health and death was due to an apparent heart attack. She was born Dec. 10, 1939 in Washington , PA She was the Daughter of the late lindsey and Merty Statler Main. Mrs Kelley was a Homemaker. Mary F.McQuain, 82 of Leesburg, Va. died at 7:45AM Tuesday jan. 7, 2003 in the Fairfax Hosp., Fairfax, Va. following a brief illness. She was born June 23, 1920 in Cass District Monongalia Co., W.Va. She was the DAughter of the late Clarence Elmer Fetty and Myrtle Bowers Fetty. Mary was a member of the Dolls Run Christian Church in Core, W.Va. She earned her Bachalor Degree from Fairmont State College in Fairmont, W.Va. and she earned her Masters Degee from W.Va. University in Morgantown, W.Va. She worked for 43 years as an elementary school teacher, 23 years of which she worked for the Monongalia Co. Board of Education in Morgantown, W.Va. and 20 years for the Fairfax Co. Board of Education retiring June of 1987. Surviving are 1 GrandSon: Jeffrey M. She was born August 3, 1920 in Richhill Twp., Greene Co.. She was the Daughter of the late Slater and Lousia Burge Geho. She lived all of her life in Greene Co.Mrs. Swan was a member of the Oakview United Methodist Church in Waynesburg. She was a former 4H leader in the sewing club for several years. She worked for 14 years at Waynesburg Floral retiring in 1985. She was also a Homemaker. Her Husband: William R. Swan whom she married September 6, 1945 died December 1, 1994. Surviving are 2 daughters : Linda M. Swan with who she made her home and Judy Bedilion of Waynesburg, PA 1 Son: R. Edward Swan of Waynesburg, PA 4 Grandchildren and 4 Step Grandchildren 3 Great Grandchildren and 2 Step Great Grandchildren She was the last of her immediate family. Michael A. Baker, 88 of Sarasota, Fl. formerly of Waynesburg died on Sat. Oct. 23, 2004 in the Lakewood Ranch Med.Center, Bradenton, Fl. He was born May 4, 1916 in Charleroi, PA A Son of the late Louis Baker and Jenny Carcelli Baker. Mr. Baker was a member of the N. United Meth. Church in Sarasota, FL. and a member of the PA Retired Teachers Assoc. He was inducted into Charleroi H.S. Hall of Fame on Sept. 18, 1989. Following his retirement he became an advid golfer. His early life was in Charleroi, he lived for several years in Waynesburg and moved to Sarasota in 1980.He was a graduate of Charleroi H.S.where he was awarded the Leslie Morgan trophy for athletic excellence in 1936. He graduate from Waynesburg Collge in 1940 where he played 4 yrs of football. He was quarter back at the college when they scored the very 1st televised touchdown in a Sept. game against Fordham University.He became a metallurgist at Allenport Pitts. Steel Co. upon Graduation and later began his teaching and coaching career in PA schools. She was born Sept. 16, 1910 in Shirley, W.Va. to the late James and Elvina Weekley Wright. Mrs. Hickman was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Waynesburg. She worked for several years as a cook for Greene Co. Memorial Hospital retiring in 1973. She then worked as a cook for the Waynesburg Senior Citizens for several years. And she was a Homemaker. Her Husband: Harley Hickman whom she married March 17, 1932 died February 19, 1993. She was also active in the Penn Hills Senior Citizens. She belonged to the Penn Hills Square Dancing Club. She worked in the laundry at the Mckee Womens Hospital in Pitts while living in Penn Hills and then worked for the Mine Safety Equipment Co. and retired after 15 years. Her 1st Husband: Robert L. Mod S. West Jr., 80 of Waynesburg, PA died at 6:20AM Monday Jan. 5, 2004 at the Greene Co. Memorial Hosptial in Waynesburg following an illness of 1 year. He was born June 23, 1923 in Center Twp., Greene Co. He was the Son of the late Mod S. West Sr. and Mattie Wood West.Mr. West was a Veteran of the U. S. Army Medical Corp. during W.W.II having served in the European and Japanese Theaters of operations. He enjoyed building models of old steam and gas engines. He retired in 1985 from Equitable Gas after 32 years of service, retiring as a Foreman. He is survived by his Wife: Vaundia Gray West whom he married June 21, 1946. Nelle Brumage Bryan, 84 of Wayensburg, PA died at 12:30AM Monday, November 24, 2003 at the Rolling Meadows Nursing Home in Waynesburg. She was born January 16, 1919 in Bristoria, PA A Daughter of the late Alfred L. and Beorgia A. Nuss Brumage. Mrs. Bryan spent most of her life in Waynesburg where she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Waynesburg and a member of the Tracy Sunday School Class. She was a Graduate of Waynesburg High School class of 1938. She was a member of the Emerald Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star #135 of Waynesburg. She worked for several years at the former Bryan's Dairy in Waynesburg. She later worked for the Observer Reporter retiring in 1995. Mrs. Bryan also sold Avon and for several years she sold grave monuments for Luketich Memorials in Bentleyville, PA Her Husband: John H. Bryan whom she married July 16, 1938 died September 28, 1997.
