Joseph Hlava, 73, of Miramar, Fla., passed away Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000. He is survived by his loving children, son and daughter-in-law, Drew and Robin Hlava; daughter and son-in-law, Loree and Michael Gwatney; grandchildren, Michael, Tyler and Mason; and sisters , Shirley Michaels, Clara Shuster and Norma DeBois. Friends may visit from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at BOYD'S University Drive Chapel in Pembroke Pines, Fla. Funeral services will be held Wednesday night at 7. Graveside services will be held Thursday at noon at Vista Memorial Gardens, Miami, Fla.
MILDRED (BURSANICH) KLUN
Mildred "Millie" (Bursanich) Klun, 72, of Lowber, died peacefully with her family, Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, at the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born Oct. 24, 1927, in Lowber, a daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Hyduck) Bursanich. Mrs. Klun "Millie" was a homemaker. Her memberships included: St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Herminie, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lowber V.F.D., Herminie Senior Citizens, S.N.P.J. Lodge #583 and the National Slovak Society, and was a member of the Civil Defense during World War II. Mrs. Klun "Millie" was the loving wife of her husband of 52 years, Carl; a cherished mother of her son, Gary and his wife, Paulette, of West Newton; and her daughter, Joni and her husband, John Lawton, of Greensburg; and will be deeply missed by her four grandchildren, Kristin Blatz and her husband, Ray, Kevin Klun and his fiancee, Jennifer Wilson, and Melanie and Jaime Lawton; also her mother -in-law, Mrs. Angela Klun of Lowber; a number of nieces and nephews; and her faithful feline companion of 17 years "Abby." In addition to her parents, Millie was preceded in death by a brother, John Bursanich; and six sisters , Mary Mika, Anna Havey, Helen Lisak, Betty Triplett, Margaret Bursanich, and Irene Bursanich. Friends were received Monday and will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Herminie. Panachida will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Funeral of Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church with her pastor, Father Gregory J. Michalisin, as celebrant. Interment will follow in West Newton Cemetery. Parastas will be held Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the funeral home. WILLIAM G. LARSON
William G. Larson, 88, of Greensburg, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, in the Harmon House, Mt. Pleasant. He was born Dec. 15, 1911, in Greensburg, a son of the late Anton and Marie Eckberg Larson. He was a member of the First Reformed United Church of Christ of Greensburg. Prior to retirement, he had been employed by Westinghouse Air Brake in Wilmerding. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Anna Catherine Poole Larson; a brother, L. Gunter Larson; and a sister, Dorothy Gault. He is survived by a son, Lars Eric Larson of Jones Mills; a grandson, Zachary M. Larson of Greensburg; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, 505 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held in the funeral home Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Edwin J. Fromm officiating. SISTER PUDENTIANA LINTNER
Sister Pudentiana Lintner, O.S.B., 86, a member of the sisters of St. Benedict, St. Emma Monastery, Greensburg, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, at St. Anne Home, Greensburg. Born Jan. 18, 1914, in Oberbayern, Germany, she professed vows in 1937 in the Abbey of St. Walburg, Eichstaett, Bavaria, and came seven weeks later to St. Vincent Archabbey and College, Latrobe, where she worked in the bakery with her sister, Sister Praxedis, O.S.B. In 1986, she was assigned to St. Emma Monastery and Retreat House, where she helped in the monastery kitchen and laundry. She is survived by nieces and nephews in Germany, and her Monastic community. Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 8:30 p.m. at St. Emma Monastery and a wake service will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the Fatima Chapel with burial in the sisters ' Cemetery. JAMES E. MILLER
James E. Miller, 79, of Mt. Pleasant RD4, after a courageous battle with leukemia, went to his eternal rest Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at the Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Jan. 7, 1921, at Tarrs, the son of the late Clark and Blanche Eva Daniels Miller. Jim was a member of the Bridgeport United Methodist Church, and was a veteran of the Civilian Conservation Corps and was also a veteran of World War II, having served in New Caledonia with the U.S. Army where he was a recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the VFW Post 3368, the East Huntingdon Firemen's Club, and a student of the former East Huntingdon High School. Prior to his retirement in 1980, he was employed as a machinist for the Walworth Valve Co., formerly of South Greensburg. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Ann Kattera Miller; devoted Father of Larry R. Miller and wife, Linda, of Latrobe, Dennis J. Miller and wife, Kristin, of Connellsville, Barbara Craig of Scottdale, and Deborah S. Miller at home; 10 grandchildren, Ian, Justin, Alyssa, Haley, Jacob, and Zachary Miller, Natalie and Douglas Craig, Benjamin Ciocco, and Andrew Henderson; and several nieces and nephews. Friends were received Monday and will be received at the EUGENE G. SALOOM FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Mt. Pleasant, Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., at which time his funeral service will be held with the Rev. Terry Trudgen officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. ANDREW W. MOTCHAR
Andrew W. Motchar, 89, of North Huntingdon, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, in the Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. He was born April 17, 1910, in North Huntingdon, a son of the late John and Elizabeth Tokoc Motchar. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a road crewman for PennDOT in Adamsburg. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church of Irwin, the Fairmont-Hahntown V.F.D., the Italian Miners Society of Hahntown, the American Legion Post 977 of North Huntingdon, and the Eagles Aerie 1671 of Irwin. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army and was once employed at the Yough Shaft Coal Mine in Hahntown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William Motchar; two brothers , John and Joseph; and a sister, Elizabeth Arvai. Surviving are his wife, Helen Polievka Motchar; a daughter, Sandra and her husband, Robert Vargo, of Garner, N.C.; a son, Terrence and his wife, Sandra Motchar of Apollo; four grandchildren, Jeffrey, Shauna, Samantha, and Stephanie Motchar; and a sister, Ann Smola of California. K. Joy (Thompson) Parisi, 70, of Wilmerding, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000. Daughter of the late Walter and Zarilda (Phillipi) Thompson. Beloved wife of Joseph S. "Joe" Parisi. Dear mother of Toni L. Shorthouse, Linda A. (Joe) Comunale and Michael Zoric. Grandmother of Joey and Lindsey Nelis and Trevor Shorthouse. Also numerous nieces and nephews. Frederick A. Piccolo, 69, of Greensburg, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, in the Veteran's Administration Medical Center, O'Hara Township. He was born April 15, 1930, in Connellsville, a son of Catherine Dominic Piccolo of Greensburg and the late Ralph Piccolo Sr. Prior to retirement, he had been employed by Aramco and later by the U.S. Postal Service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg, the VFW Post 33 and the D.A.V. Chapter 35, both of Greensburg. In addition to his mother , he is survived by two daughters , Frederica A. Piccolo of Ligonier and Betty J. and her husband, John Nusser, of Belle Vernon; a granddaughter, Jessica E. Nusser; and two brothers , Ralph J. and his wife, Susan Piccolo, of Jeannette and Vincent R. and his wife, Gloria Piccolo, of Greensburg. WILLIAM C. ROACH
William C. Roach, 51, of Youngstown, Pa., died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, in the Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Sept. 12, 1948, in Bellefonte, a son of William A. and Mary Margaret (Shirey) Roach of Youngstown. Bill was the Youngstown Borough manager, manager of the Youngstown Municipal Authority, and president of the Youngstown Borough Council. He was a life member of the Youngstown Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Youngstown Firemen's Social Club, the Baggaley Firemen's Club, the Hostetter Slovak Club, and the St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Youngstown. He was preceded in death by an uncle, Carl E. Shirey. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Tami L. (Vance) Roach, whom he married on May 3, 1986; his daughter, Miranda J. Roach at home; his brother, Brett A. Roach; and his sister, Susanne Roach, both of Youngstown; his Father and mother -in-law, Edgar and Carole Vance; and his brother-in-law, Gary Vance, all of Punxsutawney; his uncle, Warren Roach and his wife, Tanya, of Elkton, Md.; two nieces and four nephews. Ruth Rosenzweig, 88, of Murrysville and formerly of Delray Beach, Fla., died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, in Cedars of Monroeville. Born Oct. 24, 1911, in McKeesport. Daughter of the late Joseph and Hannah Ilkovitz Moskowitz. Wife of the late Jacob Rosenzweig. Survived by two sons , Edwin L. Rosenzweig of La Plata, Md., and Attorney M. Russell N. Veverka, 87, of North Huntingdon, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, at his home. He was born Dec. 27, 1912, in Hahntown, a son of the late Frank and Mary Sistek Veverka. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a manager of the shipping department for the Serro-Scotty Trailer Factory, Arona. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior of North Huntingdon. He was a lifetime member of the F.O.E. Aerie 1671 of Irwin and the C.S.A. Lodge of Hahntown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Veverka. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Hazel Ingraham Veverka; a daughter, Norma and her husband, Richard Truxal, of Greensburg; three sons , Ronald and his wife, Roberta Veverka, of North Huntingdon, David and his wife, Paula Veverka, of Jeannette and Richard and his fiancee, Margie Taylor, of Irwin; six grandchildren, Paula Hildenbrand, Robert Veverka, Roni Ann Johnson and Jason, Steven and Chad Veverka; a sister, Gladys Popella of North Huntingdon; and a sister-in-law, Catherine Veverka of Fairmont. Ann D. Ward, 78, of Slickville, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, in the Monsour Medical Center, Jeannette. She was born Oct. 27, 1921, in Motherwell, Scotland, a daughter of the late Patrick and Sarah J. Morgan Gallogly. Her hobby was quilting, and she was a member of the quilters' club, St. Sylvester Church, and the American Legion Post 18, all in Slickville. During World War II, she served with the U.S. Army Air Force in the European theater of operations. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James J. Ward in 1993; a son, John P. Ward in 1986; and three brothers , James, Joseph and John Gallogly. She is survived by five children, Kathleen A. Ward of Greensburg, Doreen A. Ward of Slickville, James J. Ward and his wife, Margaret, of Ayer, Mass., Mary Ann Bragg of Norfolk, Va., and Martin D. Ward and his wife, Cathie, of Hellertown; a brother, Patrick Gallogly and his wife, Betty Ann, of Mars; a sister, Mary Ward and her husband, John, of Pittsburgh; and six grandchildren, Meghan Ward, Patrick Bragg, Alanna Bragg, Kelsi Ward (for whom she was also godmother), Abby Ward, and James Ward. Lloyd Kenneth Whetzel Sr., 91, of Greensburg, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, in IHS of Greater Pittsburgh, Hempfield Township. He was born March 13, 1908, in Mt. Pleasant Township, a son of the late Lloyd S. and Naomi Ferguson Whetzel. He was a retired employee of the former ITE Plant in South Greensburg, and was a longtime member of the First United Church of Christ in Greensburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elda Brant Whetzel; two brothers , John Carl and Samuel Whetzel; and three sisters , Edna Larmer, Leona Yezek and Dorothy Lenard. Surviving are two sons , Lynn Richard Whetzel and wife, Betty, of Armbrust and Lloyd K. Whetzel Jr. and wife, Kathy, of Tampa, Fla.; a brother, Wilmer Whetzel of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Ruth W.
