ACHIELLES C. PEZZI

Achielles C. "Kelley" Pezzi, 85, of Blairsville, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at Indiana Hospital. He was born Feb. 10, 1915, in Blairsville, a son of the late Ricardo Pezzi and Theresa (Storti) Pezzi, and stepfather, Marco Pezzi. He was a member of SS. Simon and Jude Church, Blairsville. Also, he was a member of the Carpenters Union, Italian Mutual Aid Society of Blairsville, and the American Legion Post #141, Indiana. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army serving as platoon sergeant in the 115th Infantry, 29th Division, and participated in D-Day at Omaha Beach and received a Purple Heart. He was a retired carpenter, having worked for the Dick Corp. Survivors include his wife, Norma (Carmo) Pezzi of Blairsville; a daughter, Nancy Stella and husband, Marvin, of Blairsville; a son, Richard Pezzi and wife, Mary, of Greensburg; two grandsons, Joseph Stella and wife, Tara, of Carrboro, N.C., and Mark Stella of Blairsville; two brothers , Richard Pezzi of Salem, Ore., and Aldo Pezzi of Waretown, N.J.; a sister, Vera Pesci of Rossford, Ohio; a stepsister, Emilia DiBiase of Blairsville; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and stepfather, he was preceded in death by a brother, Geno Pezzi; and a sister, Margaret Sabo. Friends will be received at the JAMES F. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 25 W. Market St., Blairsville, Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A wake service will be held Friday evening at 8:30 in the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in SS. Simon and Jude Church, Blairsville, Saturday, Feb. 26, at 1:30 p.m. with Father Chester J. Raimer as celebrant. VFW Post 5821 and the American Legion will conduct military services. Interment SS. Simon and Jude Cemetery, Blairsville.

MILDRED V. PRICE

Mildred V. Price, 93, of Ruffsdale, went home to live with her Lord Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. Mildred was born Feb. 17, 1907, in Somerset, a daughter of the late Oliver and Annie Lowery. She was a homemaker and a loving mother of her daughter, Betty DiPerna of Ruffsdale; her daughter-in-law, Mae Van Sickle of Greencastle; her three grandchildren, Ed DiPerna and his wife, Denice, Randy Van Sickle and his wife, Karen, and Sue Mayhugh and her husband, Ken; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Earl Van Sickle; her second husband, Thomas Price; a son, Ernest Van Sickle; a grandson, Roger Van Sickle; a granddaughter, Kathleen Van Sickle; two sisters , Carrie Bates and Edna Reed; and three brothers , William, Merle and Grant Lowery. Friends will be received in the EUGENE G. SALOOM FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Mt. Pleasant, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time her funeral service will be held with the Rev. Ralph A. Mostoller officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Tarrs.

JOHN J. SCIULLO

John J. Sciullo, 68, of Bloomfield, suddenly on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000. Beloved husband of Constance "Connie" Sciullo. Father of Joanne Sciullo, Christine Sciullo, Linda Sciullo, Lisa Sciullo and Angela Hollihan and her husband, Sean. Mr. Sciullo was dean emeritus and a professor of law at Duquesne University School of Law. Friends were received Wednesday and will be received Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the WINTER FUNERAL HOME, 4730 Friendship Ave., Pittsburgh. Funeral Friday at 9 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the John J. Sciullo Scholarship Fund at the Duquesne University School of Law.

THE REV. MAX E. SMITH

The Rev. Max E. Smith, 75, of Ligonier, Rector Emeritus of St. Michael's of the Valley Episcopal Church, Rector, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000. He was born Aug. 19, 1924, in Confluence, a son of the late Harry E. and Mary Matthews Smith. Max was rector at St. Michael's of the Valley Episcopal Church, Rector, from 1968-87 and rector emeritus from 1968 to the present. He graduated from Muskingham College in 1949, the Philadelphia School of Divinity in 1953, at which time he was ordained as an Episcopal priest. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a 2nd lieutenant. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary Schaal Smith, on Feb. 16, 1996; a grandson, Ian Bradley Smith; two brothers , Robert and Carl Smith; and a sister, Evelyn Gardner. He is survived by a son, Bradley E. Smith and his wife, Melissa, of Latrobe; two daughters , Paula S. Columbus and her husband, Jim, of Dayton, Ohio, and Janet S. Cox and her husband, Randy, of Ligonier; six grandchildren, Cedie, Ryland, Mac, Marron, Warren, and Bryan; a niece, Nancy Hittie, and two nephews, Don and James Gardner. Family will receive friends at the SNYDER FUNERAL HOME INC. & CREMATORY, Bell and East Church streets, Ligonier, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Memorial services will be held at St. Michael's of the Valley Episcopal Church, Rector, at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. James B. Simons officiating. Private interment in St. Michael's Cemetery. Family will receive friends in the parish house following the service. The family requests no flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael's of the Valley Episcopal Church, Ligonier Valley Library, or West Penn Hospital, Neo-Natal I.C.U. CHARLES S. STOREY

Charles S. Storey, 85, of South Chestnut Street, Scottdale, passed away Tuesday evening, Feb. 22, 2000, in Harmon House Convalescent Center, Mt. Pleasant. Charles was born in Irwin, Sept. 8, 1914, a son of the late James Watson and Ellen Sharp Storey, who passed away in 1919 and 1935, respectively. Charles was a longtime resident of Scottdale and an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He retired as assistant postmaster with the Scottdale Post Office on July 1, 1972, after 31 years of service with the U.S. Postal Service. He was also an active member of the Marion Masonic Lodge #562 F&AM of Scottdale, where he served as past master in 1974. In 1979, he was coronated as Scottdale's first 33rd Degree Mason during ceremonies in Chicago, Ill. His additional Masonic memberships included: Connellsville Royal Arch Chapter #283, Uniontown Commandery #49 Knights Templar, Olivet Council #13 of Greensburg, Comas Club of Connellsville, Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite, Uniontown Lodge of Perfection Chapter, Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite and Consistory Council of Pittsburgh, Knights of Red Cross Consistory in Pittsburgh, an honorary member of the Supreme Council of Boston, Mass., and the Supreme Council Group Valley of Pittsburgh. He was also a life member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge #777 of Scottdale, the American Legion Post #240 of Scottdale, Scottdale Christian Men's Association, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and a charter member of Scottdale Showtime. A veteran of World War II, Charles served as a technical sergeant with the U.S. Army's Battery C, 6th Battalion, and was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. He was also a graduate of Lynch High School in Kentucky. Charles is survived by a son, Charles H. Storey and his wife, Diane, of Westport, Conn.; three grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Charles was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret "Peg" Storey on March 5, 1998; three sisters , Ethel Dougherty, Anabel Bartley and Helen Frampton; and eight brothers , Albert, Walter, Harry, Jack, Watson, Joseph, Frank and Robert Storey. Family and friends will be received at the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring St., Scottdale, (724) 887-5300, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 1 to 2 p.m., the hour of funeral service with the Rev. Donald G. Cochran officiating. Graveside committal services and interment will follow in Scottdale Cemetery next to his late wife. The Marion Masonic Lodge #562 will hold a memorial service Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. DELORIS R. SORBIN TRYBUS

Deloris R. "Dee" Sorbin Trybus, 62, of Saltsburg, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, in Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born May 8, 1937, in Homer City, the daughter of the late George and Goldie Irene Rankin Sorbin. She was a homemaker and a loving mother . In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Philip A. Trybus, in 1967; a son, John, in 1979; and by a brother, James Sorbin. She is survived by three sons , Greg Trybus and his wife, Norma, of Saltsburg, Stanley Trybus at home and Brad Trybus and his wife, Tracy, of Avonmore; two daughters , Darcy Plachta and her husband, Mark, of Derry and Stacy Trybus at home; five grandchildren; two brothers , Bill Sorbin and his wife, Clara, of Saltsburg and Doug Sorbin and his wife, Robin, of Indiana, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the KELLY L. CORRIDONI FUNERAL HOME LTD., 400 Indiana Ave., Avonmore, where services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. April Michaelsen Dailey, pastor of the sons of Zebedee Lutheran Church in Saltsburg, officiating. Interment will follow at Edgewood Cemetery, Saltsburg.

EMMA JANE BITNER WEIERS

Emma Jane Bitner Weiers, 86, of Latrobe RD1, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000. She was born Dec. 19, 1913, in Kecksburg, a daughter of the late Grant W. and A. Jane Porch Bitner. She was a graduate of Hurst High School, Class of 1932, and Indiana Normal School in 1934. Prior to her retirement, she taught at the Kecksburg, United, and Norvelt schools with 32 years of service. She was a life member of Westmoreland County Teacher's Association, life member of the Pennsylvania Retired Teachers' Association, and a member of Latrobe Chapter of the AARP. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Raymond F. Weiers, in November 1997; brothers , Allen, Harry, and her twin brother, Wayne; and a sister, Mabel "Jackie" Bitner. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Joyce Vasinko and her husband, Ray, of Latrobe RD1 and Diane Spears and her husband, John, of Boston, Mass.; the following grandchildren and their spouses, Mark Vasinko and his wife, Donna, Ray Vasinko Jr. and his wife, Mary Helen, Kathy Campbell and her husband, Jeff, Anne Spears and her fiance, Patrick Ludden, and Lisa Stump and her husband, Glen; seven great-grandchildren, Joseph, Daniel, Brandon, Jeffery, Robert, Kaylee and Jarred; a brother, John Ray and his wife, Eva, of Kecksburg; and nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, Norvelt, Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home Saturday at 11 a.m. with Nancy S. Mears, L.M., officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Clair Cemetery, Greensburg. JEAN E. BARBER
Jean E. Barber, 83, of Masontown, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, in Lancashire Manor, Lancaster. She was born May 7, 1916, in Mt. Pleasant, a daughter of Harry W. and Bertha E. Myers Shaffer. She was a cafeteria manager for 18 years in the Albert Gallatin School District and was a member of the McClellandtown United Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, R. Clifton Barber, on Oct. 6, 1986; a daughter, Carol Wilson; a brother, Blaine Shaffer; and her parents. Surviving are a son, Edwin E. Barber and his wife, Eileen, of North Potomac, Md.; two daughters , Sandra L. Antram of New Salem and Lorraine J. Stillwagon and her husband, Harry, of Lancaster; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three sisters , Ruth Smith and her husband, Tom, of Masontown, Betty Watkins of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and Sarah Watkins Morgando of Mesa, Ariz. Friends will be received in the GRANT R. TOWNSEND & SON FUNERAL HOME, 220 S. Main St., Masontown, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Additional visitation will be held in the McClellandtown United Presbyterian Church Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. Funeral services at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Douglas J. Essinger-Hileman officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

MARGARET RIVA BARTOK

Margaret "Peggy" Riva Bartok, 57, of Greensburg, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, in UPMC Shadyside. The family will be receiving relatives and friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the SCHROCK-HOGAN FUNERAL HOME INC., 226 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi. A complete obituary and funeral services will be announced in Thursday's edition.

FRANCIS I. BERNARDING

Francis I. "Bud" Bernarding, of White hall, on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000. Husband of Catherine L. Bernarding. Father of Dorothy Coll, Thomas and John Bernarding and Catherine Martone. Brother of Mary Voelker and Virginia Bifano. Also survived by 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Friends received at the JOHN F. DOLORES J. MENK BOWMAN

Dolores J. "Dee" Menk Bowman, 65, of Washington Township, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at her home. Born Jan. 19, 1935, in Washington Township, she was the daughter of the late Harry E. and Hazel B. Young Menk. She lived in Washington Township all of her life and was a 1952 graduate of Washington Township High School. Prior to retirement in 1995, she had been employed by Westinghouse Electric Corp.'s Energy Center in Monroeville, where she worked as a secretary for 26 years. She was a member of Union Presbyterian Church, Washington Township. Her hobbies included bowling, tennis, walking, spectator sports and playing cards. Dee loved animals, especially dogs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Harry W. Menk. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, E. Raeburn "Ray" Bowman; three nephews; and an aunt, Jane Young of Cranberry. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME INC., 100 Owens View Drive, Apollo, where services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. with her pastor, the Rev. David Kilpatrick, officiating. Interment in Plum Creek Cemetery, Plum Borough. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life, in Apollo or the Union Presbyterian Church, 4851 Fairview Drive, Murrysville, PA 15668.

JOHN E. CLEMENS

John E. " White y" Clemens, 62, of Greensburg, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, Feb. 21, 2000. Born Jan. 15, 1938, in Jeannette, he was owner/operator of Clemens Trucking in Greensburg. As his profession, he did what he loved and he loved trucking. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Helen E. (Race) Clemens; and the following children: Dwayne Clemens and his wife, Nila, Michael Clemens and his wife, Kim, Julia Sphon and her husband, Chip, Dean Clemens and his wife, Donna, Carol Stablein, Shirley Barton, Joyce Pivirotto and her husband, Gary, and Lynda Renchko and her husband, Ken. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph "Joe" Clemens and wife, Janet; a sister, Myrt Conrad and her husband, Bill; several nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins. Also his loving pet dog, "Penney." Family and friends will be received at the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME INC., 524 N. Main St., Greensburg, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Friday at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow at the Westmoreland County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes contributions to the Westmoreland Hospice, 532 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, PA 15601.
