CATHERINE B. COX BROWN
Catherine B. Cox Brown, 67, of North Huntingdon, formerly of Herminie, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at the home of her son in Uniontown. She was born Sept. 23, 1932, in North Braddock, a daughter of the late Andrew and Catherine Comer Cox. Prior to her retirement, she was a caregiver for Country Care Home Health. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church of Irwin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest W. Brown Sr., in 1991. Surviving are a son, Ernest Jr. and his wife, Sandra Brown, of Uniontown; a daughter, Barbara and her husband, Patrick Garase, of Finleyville; two grandchildren, Kyle and Paige Garase; two brothers , John Cox of North Braddock and Joseph Cox of Detroit, Mich.; and two sisters , Sarah Frame of North Huntingdon and Mary Bruce of Penn Hills. Friends will be received at the JOSEPH F. OTT FUNERAL HOME INC., Fifth and Oak streets, Irwin, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will follow in the Penn-Lincoln Memorial Park, North Huntingdon.
JOSEPHINE GENEVIEVE (TIERNO) CAPUTO
Josephine Genevieve "Jo" (Tierno) Caputo, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, in Tucson, Ariz. Born Jan. 2, 1909, in New Alexandria, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Grace Yanity Tierno of New Alexandria. She was a resident of Campana del Rio in Tucson, Ariz., for the past five years. Prior to that she had resided in Derry Township for 45 years. She is survived by two children, a son, Joseph A. Caputo of Tucson, Ariz., and a daughter, Carole (Mrs. William) McCray of Ligonier; three grandchildren, W. Patrick McCray and his wife, Olivia, of Washington , D.C., Elizabeth McChesney and her husband, Michael, of Youngsville, Pa., and Vincent J. Caputo and his wife, Cynthia, of Deltona, Fla.; and two great-grandchildren, Emily Kathryn and Jacob Vincent McChesney. One brother, Rocco Tierno of Latrobe, survives her. Thirteen brothers and sisters preceded her in death. She graduated from New Alexandria High School and from the Leech Business School of Greensburg. She was employed as a secretary in the prothonotary's office in Greensburg and as a secretary to the late judges Laird and Copeland. Following her marriage to Ernest J. Caputo, now deceased, she was employed at Torrance State Hospital in the Industrial Therapy Department. She was a member of SS. Simon and Jude Roman Catholic Church, Blairsville, and was an active 50-year member of the Catholic daughters of America Court St. Theresa #562. In Tucson, she attended SS. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church. While at Campana del Rio, Jo was an active member of the Ambassador's Club, where she welcomed and assisted new residents. As an avid knitter, she generously contributed her needlework to Campana's holiday bazaar for the needy, and she participated annually in walking several miles in Campana's Walk for Alzheimer's Disease. The family will receive friends at the RICHARD L. SHOEMAKER FUNERAL HOME, 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A wake service will be held in the funeral home Friday at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in the SS. Simon and Jude R.C. Church, Blairsville, with Father Chester J. Raimer as celebrant. Interment will follow in Greensburg Catholic Cemetery, Hempfield Township. Catholic daughters of America Court St. Theresa #562 will recite the rosary in the funeral home Friday at 3 p.m.
DOROTHY LOU HARROLD
Dorothy Lou Harrold, 85, of Greensburg RD7, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born Oct. 17, 1914, in Hempfield Township, the daughter of the late David F. and Olive Turney Thomas. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the YWCA, both of Greensburg. Surviving are her husband, Harry B. Harrold, to whom she was married for 65 years; a son, Randall L. Harrold and wife, Ann C., of Greensburg RD7; and grandsons, Scott T. of Idaho and Greg A. Harrold of Colorado. Friends will be received at the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME INC., 524 N. Main St., Greensburg, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. LENA J. LITTERINI HOPKINS
Lena J. Litterini Hopkins, 79, of North Huntingdon, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, in Baldock Health Care Centre, North Huntingdon. She was born Oct. 3, 1920, in Ralston, Pa., a daughter of the late Oreste and Ethel Guardasoni Litterini. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Hopkins; and the following brothers and sister: Prince, Walter, Marshall, Pete and Clyde Litterini and Louise Ruozzi. Surviving are a son, Clyde R. and his wife, Sandee Hopkins, of Greensburg; a daughter, Sandra and her husband, Mark Kencbok, of North Huntingdon; and a grandson, Jody Hopkins. EVELYN E. KUNTZ
Evelyn E. Kuntz, 64, of Greensburg RD9 (Salem Township), died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born Aug. 14, 1935, in Salem Township, a daughter of the late Frank Sr. and Anna Kybach Bradosky. She was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Delmont, a homemaker for her family, and an avid bingo player who enjoyed attending bingos throughout the Westmoreland County area. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers , Frank J. Bradosky, Mike Bradosky, and Charles "Chuck" Bradosky Sr.; and by two sisters , Katherine Fostar and Mary J. Tkach. She is survived by two sons , Edward W. Kuntz and William A. Kuntz, both at home; two brothers , John Bradosky and his wife, Valetta, of Jeannette RD2 and Andy Bradosky and his wife, Betty, of Export RD1; and two sisters , Ann Henry and her husband, John, of Jeannette RD2 and Sophia Bradosky of Greensburg RD9. Florence M. (Wisniewski) Kuszajewski, 84, of Polish Hill, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at UPMC St. Margaret, Aspinwall. She was the wife of the late Frank J. Kuszajewski. Beloved mother of Gloria M., Francis R. and the late Robert F. Kuszajewski. mother -in-law of Susan E. (Mroz) Kuszajewski. Grandmother of Claire J. and Ellen T. Kuszajewski. Pearl E. Ferrara Laudadio, 84, of Columbia, Md., formerly of Jeannette, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, in the Lorien Nursing Home, Columbia, Md. She was born March 15, 1915, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late Frank and Emma Ricci Ferrara. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Laudadio; five sisters , Isabella Ferrara, Sylvia Ferrara, Jean Rosky, Clementina Martin and Concetta Pasquarelli; and two brothers , John and Nicholas Ferrara. She is survived by her son, John F. and his wife, Michelle Laudadio, of Columbia, Md.; three grandchildren, LeeAnne, Matthew and Sarah Laudadio; a brother, Rudolph and his wife, Rose Ferrara, of Southwest Greensburg; a sister, Ann Bell of Greensburg; and several nieces and nephews. Virginia May "Scotty" Little, 90, of Jeannette, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at home. She was born Jan. 20, 1910, in Swissvale, a daughter of the late Charles and Florence Carr Little. Prior to retirement, she was employed by Shade and Novelty of Jeannette. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jeannette and the D.A.R. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Kathryn Patton. She is survived by a sister, Beatrice Yoscak of Jeannette; numerous nieces and nephews; and a very good neighbor, Virginia Cerasa of Jeannette. MAX MALIS
Max "Harpo" Malis, 65, of Greensburg, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born May 19, 1934, in Hutchinson, a son of Margaret Bendick Malis of Rostraver Township and the late Max Malis. He was a former employee of the Pittsburgh Steel Corp., Monessen, and later worked for 30 years with the Elliott Corp. in Jeannette. He had served in the U.S. Army, and was Catholic by faith. He had been the former baseball and football coach and later general manager of the Fort Allen Volunteer Recreation Association. In addition to his Father , he was preceded in death by a brother, William Malis. In addition to his mother , he is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Caughey Malis; and children, Cheri Bobin and husband, Robert, of Donora, Terry Malis and wife, Becky, of Latrobe, Mark Malis and wife, Joyce, of Greensburg, Kimberly Hendrick and husband, Tom, of Hunker; a brother, Joseph Malis of Erie; three sisters , Annabelle Sever of Hutchinson, Rose Stubbs and Evelyn Kayda, both of Belle Vernon; and 11 grandchildren. Stephen R. Martinich, 78, of Swissvale, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000. Beloved husband of Agnes (Martincevic) Martinich. Brother of Anne Martinich of Swissvale, John Martinich, Catherine Harman, Mary Jean Anast and Barbara Duch, all of Florida, and the late Joseph. Also survived by nieces and nephews. He was born Nov. 26, 1921, in Rankin, a son of the late John and Kata (Yakolich) Martinich. He retired as a larryman from U.S. Steel. Friends received Friday from 1 to 9 p.m. at the THOMAS L. Rita Seng New, 80, of Albuquerque, N.M., formerly of Turtle Creek, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Henry "Bill" New; a daughter, Rita A. New of Albuquerque, N.M.; two sons , James A. New and wife, Vickie, of Bosque Farms, N.M., and William A. New of Albuquerque, N.M.; grandchildren, Nathan, Sarah and Tyler New of Albuquerque, Anita and Amy New of Bosque Farms; and a sister, Agnes Heasley and husband, George, of Greensburg. Mrs. New was a member of the Holy Ghost Parish, where she was active in the Rosary Altar Society. She worked as a volunteer teacher's aide at Holy Ghost Catholic School. MILDRED V. PRICE
Mildred V. Price, 93, of Ruffsdale, went home to live with her Lord Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. Mildred was born Feb. 17, 1907, in Somerset, a daughter of the late Oliver and Annie Lowery. She was a homemaker and a loving mother of her daughter, Betty DiPerna of Ruffsdale; her daughter-in-law, Mae Van Sickle of Greencastle; her three grandchildren, Ed DiPerna and his wife, Denice, Randy Van Sickle and his wife, Karen, and Sue Mayhugh and her husband, Ken; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Earl Van Sickle; her second husband, Thomas Price; a son, Ernest Van Sickle; a grandson, Roger Van Sickle; a granddaughter, Kathleen Van Sickle; two sisters , Carrie Bates and Edna Reed; and three brothers , William, Merle and Grant Lowery. THE REV. DR. CLARENCE H. SCHNARS
The Rev. Dr. Clarence H. Schnars, 92, a resident of the United Presbyterian Home of the Moshannon Valley in Philipsburg, Pa., died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at 7:36 a.m., at the United Presbyterian Home. Born Feb. 11, 1908, in Hawk Run, Pa., a son of the late Raymond R. and Minetta Haywood Schnars. In 1933, he married Gladys Summers, who died in 1974. In 1976, he married Alliene Lowery Maurer, who died in 1991. Survived by three daughters , Mrs. John (Jean) McLaughlin of Pittsburgh, Mrs. G. Martin (Ruth) Gump of Dallas, Texas , and Mrs. Ernest R. (Joyce) Freeman of Pleasanton, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Elma Gette Smithmyer of Philipsburg; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents; two wives; and three brothers , Earl, Raymond, and Clyde. He was a graduate of Morris Township High School, Class of 1926. In 1930, he graduated from Bethany College in West Virginia and Yale Divinity School in New Haven, Conn. In 1965, Bethany College conferred on him the Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree. Dr. Clarence H. Schnars was a minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He was the founding pastor of the Mt. Lebanon Christian Church and served the church for 23 years before retiring in 1973. He also served churches in Big Run, Lemoyne, and Johnstown. He served on numerous state and national boards of the Christian church and was one of the prime movers in the beginning of the Thomas Campbell Christian Center in Washington , Pa. He was a member of the First Church of Christ in Philipsburg. A memorial service will be held at the First Church of Christ, Philipsburg, Saturday, March 11, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William R. Fowler and the Rev. Kathleen Myers co-officiating. There will be no public visitation.
