Nioma R. (Pinkerton) Mason-Sly, 51, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, as a result of an auto accident. Wife of Michael J. Sly; mother of Charles L. Mason III, Nioma Grace and Patrick E. Nicholson. Daughter of Ruth Baldinger Runco and the late Melvin L. Pinkerton Sr. Sister of Ramona C. Dunn, Melvin L. Pinkerton Jr., and Jesse Pinkerton. Grandmother of Chad, Heather, and Joshua Mason. Also six nephews and four nieces; and loved by all. She was a volunteer firefighter in Marshall Township. Memorials to American Lung Association. HAROLD L. SAGER
Harold L. "Mike" Sager, 83, of Perryopolis, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at 12:45 a.m., in HCR Manor Care, Bethel Park. He was born Aug. 20, 1916, in Smithton, a son of the late Jacob L. and Catherine Snyder Sager. Mike was a graduate of Connellsville High School Class of 1934, where he was class president. He played basketball and baseball in high school and at Bucknell University, where he was the captain, and was president of Sigma Chi fraternity. He also played semi-pro baseball with the St. Louis Browns. He was a member of the Smithton and Perryopolis Lions Clubs, past chairman of the Municipal Water Authority, a member of Gummert Lodge #252 F&AM of Fayette City, Pittsburgh Consistory and the Syria Temple, and past chairman and elder of the First Christian Church Board. He was active with Scouting, and a lifelong area businessman with his son, Jeffrey. His hobbies were fishing and golfing. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty Luce Sager; the following children: Mrs. Graham (Carol) Knox of Mt. Lebanon, Ms. Suellen Fitzsimmons of Bethel Park and Jeffrey L. Sager and wife, Sherry, of Belle Vernon; and six grandchildren. There is no public visitation. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 3, at 11 a.m. in the First Christian Church, Perryopolis, with the Rev. Paul M. Ragle officiating. Glenn Thomas "Tom Cat" Weisner Jr., 61, of Latrobe, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at his residence. He was born Oct. 15, 1938, in Latrobe, a son of the late Glenn Thomas Sr. and Pearl B. (Hunter) Weisner. Prior to retirement, he was co-owner and operator of G&S Builders and Remodelers, and had also been employed by the former Highland Cable Company. He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church, Kingston, and the First Reformed United Church of Christ, Greensburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Weisner. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Susanna C. (Mewherter) Weisner; six children, Cynthia A. Withrow of Ligonier, Timothy A. Weisner and wife, Jennifer, of Newport News, Va., Karen S. Shawley and husband, Homer, of Tampa, Fla., John Brian Weisner Bradley of Pitcairn, Dolores Marie Weisner of Greensburg, and Kimberly Ann Hanscom of Trafford; 12 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two brothers , Paul Weisner of Manassas, Va., and Robert Weisner of Greensburg; three sisters , Rosemarie Glesky, Katherine Weisner and Judy Mae Solo, all of Greensburg; three aunts, Erma Weisner, Katherine Murphy and Edna Clemens; and numerous nieces and nephews. George Brosnick, 73, of Latrobe RR4, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born Dec. 20, 1926, in Derry, he was a son of the late Andrew and Jennie E. Marol Brosnick. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Youngstown, Pa. A World War II veteran, he had served in the U.S. Army, and was a member of American Legion Post 515, Latrobe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters , Agnes Amole and Helen Nagel; two brothers , Andrew Brosnick Jr. and Joseph Brosnick; a niece, Dana Noel; and a nephew, Curtis Cackowski. He is survived by his wife, Betty Peipock Brosnick; three sons , Thomas Brosnick and his wife, Jane, of North Huntingdon, William Brosnick and his wife, Marsha, of Greeneville, Tenn., and John Brosnick and his fiancee, Sandy Wolf, of Latrobe; two daughters , Mary Ann Kisic and her husband, Joseph, of Derry and Betty Wass and her husband, Louis, of Greensburg; three brothers , Paul Brosnick of Latrobe, Albert Brosnick and William Brosnick, both of Luxor; four sisters , Mary Johnson of Taylor, Mich., Irene Noel and her husband, John "Jack," of Greensburg, Evelyn Cackowski of Greensburg and Pauline Tometsko and her husband, William, of Greensburg; four grandchildren, Jason, Michael and Cory Brosnick and Jesse Kisic; a stepgranddaughter, Amanda Wolf; and a number of nieces and nephews. Frances R. Morcom Kean, 93, of North Huntingdon, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, in the Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. She was born July 20, 1906, in Bradenville, a daughter of the late Elisha and Urana Puff Morcom. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Irwin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth M. Kean; three sisters , Mae Brenn, Blanche Hill and Lillian Levis; and three brothers , Snoden, Miles and Floyd Morcom. She is survived by two sons , Kenneth E. Kean of North Huntingdon and William W. Kean and his wife, Sally, of Pataskala, Ohio; four grandchildren, Sandy Fry, Betsy Bucchi, Jason Kean and Krissa Kean; a sister, Erma Stull of Leechburg; and nieces and nephews. Julius C. Korns, 83, of Baldwin Borough, on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000. A retiree of Westinghouse, East Pittsburgh, with 39 years of service, and a U.S. Army veteran. Beloved husband of Lois J. Rocco A. Perla Sr., 72, of Murrysville, and a longtime resident of Swissvale, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at the St. Francis Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born April 4, 1927, in Braddock, to the late Livio and Maria Perla. Mr. Perla was the owner of Perla's Appliances for over 40 years. He was a lifelong member of the Madonna del Castello Church in Swissvale, a former member of the Lions Club, and a longtime sponsor and supporter of many community activities, including Swissvale Little League Baseball and the Swissvale Boys Club. He was the beloved husband of Mary Lou Pascarella Perla and the late Mary Luketich Perla. Loving Father of Victoria Dee and her husband, Bill Dee, of North Carolina, Livio Perla and his wife, Suzanne Perla, of Tampa, Fla., Anthony Perla and his wife, Sharon Perla, of Braddock Hills, Marie Moreau and her husband, Michael Moreau, of West Deer, Elizabeth Vedernack and her husband, Robert Vedernack, of Chicago, Ill., Rocco Perla and his wife, Georgeann Perla, of Churchill, and Michael Perla of Seattle, Wash. Jane C. Rubright, 82, of Pleasant Valley, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, in Monsour Medical Center, Jeannette. She was born Sept. 10, 1917, in Penn Township, a daughter of the late Raymond and Grace Altman Good. She was a member of the Newlonsburg Presbyterian Church in Murrysville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clair Dean Rubright, in 1975; a son, Harry C. Rubright; a daughter, Louise Rubright; a brother, John Good; and two sisters , Dorothy Good and Mary Florek. She is survived by a son, Albert B. and wife, Daun Rubright, of Greensburg; a daughter, Grace Rubright of Greensburg; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. MICHAEL J. WASSERMAN
Michael J. "Ziggy" Wasserman, 90, of South Greensburg, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, in the Integrated Health Services of Greater Pittsburgh, in Greensburg. He was born Sept. 27, 1909, in Udale, Pa., a son of the late John and Mary Oleyar Wasserman. Prior to retirement, he had been employed by the former Walworth Valve Co. of South Greensburg. He was a member of St. Bruno Catholic Church, South Greensburg, the B.P.O.E. of Jeannette, and the Jednota Lodge Branch 512. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Ziggy was the last surviving member of the 1930-1932 Haydenville baseball team, one of the top baseball teams in the county in that era. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. Messich Wasserman; three brothers , John, Stephen and Edward; and a sister, Mary Ann Kocan. He is survived by a brother, Thomas Wasserman of Greensburg; a sister, Elizabeth Kowick of Greensburg; and several nieces and nephews. Harry William Baker, 70, of Washington Township, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at his home. He was born Nov. 25, 1929, in Jeannette, a son of the late Kenneth and Rebecca Leacock Baker. He was a retired employee of the Salina Brick Yard, Jeannette Glass Co., and Redding Electric, Jeannette, as an electrician, retiring in 1995. Mr. Baker enjoyed the flea market circuit. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Bowers Baker; and two brothers , Paul and Kenneth Baker. He is survived by five sons , Harry W. Baker Jr. of Edmon, Kenneth D. Baker of Vandergrift, Frank C. Baker of Blairsville, Randy L. Baker of Sterling, Va., and Thomas A. James T. "Jim" Engelbrecht, 84, of Bethel Park, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, in Shadyside Nursing Center. He was born June 14, 1915, in McKeesport, a son of the late William and Katherine O'Toole Engelbrecht. He was retired from U.S. Steel, National Tube Works, McKeesport, where he was a heat treater. He was also retired from Bettis Floral, West Mifflin. He was the brother of John L. and wife, Marcia, of Greensburg; uncle of Beth Elise Nagy and her husband, Phillip; great-uncle of Rachel Nagy and John Louis Nagy; and was the friend of John Butler, with whom he resided. Jim was a 1933 graduate of McKeesport High School. Margaret N. Forsyth, 83, of Dallas, Texas , formerly of North Huntingdon, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000. She was born Jan. 16, 1917, in McKeesport, a daughter of the late Henry and Nancy Wonderly. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard J. Forsyth, and a grandson. She is survived by her children, Karen Edmonds, Richard J. Forsyth Jr., Lorraine Lambert, Cheryl Sell and Louise McQuillen. She had 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She formerly taught for the Norwin School District for 37 years. Tressa M. Frater, 76, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Jeannette, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, in Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh. She was born Dec. 14, 1923, in Westmoreland City, the daughter of the late John and Blanche Williams DeSanty. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John G. Frater Jr., in 1980. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Jacqueline) Hagen of Pittsburgh; a son, Robert DeSanty of Kentucky; two brothers , Robert DeSanty of Greensburg and John DeSanty of Jeannette; a foster brother, Casper Frank of West Virginia; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
