Earl N. `Soapy' Vevers
Ross

Earl N. "Soapy" Vevers, "The Greatest Guy in the World," 86, of Ross, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, in UPMC Passavant, McCandless. Born Aug. 31, 1914 in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late James S. and Ada E. Bishop Vevers. Before his retirement, Earl worked in boiler maintenance for the Duquesne Light Company and was a member of the I.E.B.W. Union Local No. 142. Survivors include his beloved wife, Ruth Vandergrift Vevers, four loving daughters , Emma Seekford of Ross, Cathy Eddings of Penn Hills, Carolyn Martin of Ashtabula, Ohio and Gail Weisbecker of Ross; three loving sons , Charles Vevers of Warren Co., Pa.; Michael Vevers of Ross and James Vevers of Brighton Heights; a brother, Edwin Vevers of Maryland; a sister, Sarah Lange of Crafton Heights; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by three brothers , Chester Vevers, Stanley Vevers and Jack Vevers; and three sisters , Charlotte Vevers, Ada Merkt and Jane Rhodes. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday in the SCHELLHAAS FUNERAL HOME INC., 388 Center Ave., West View. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

William F. Zagozan
Cleveland, Ohio,
Formerly of Slickville

William F. Zagozan, 76, of Cleveland, Ohio (formerly of Slickville), died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, at his home. He was born April 16, 1924, in Slickville, a son of the late John and Angeline Drolz Zagozan. He had been a resident of Cleveland since 1949. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a machinist at Warner and Swazey in Cleveland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Zagozan; three brothers , Robert, Richard and Louis Zagozan; and a grandson, William Sapp. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Goldie H. Repine Zagozan; two daughters , Patricia Sapp and her husband, John, of Gerrardstown, W.Va., and Carol Black and her husband, Kurt, of Cleveland; two brothers , Joseph Zagozan and his wife, Temple, of Stamford, Conn., and Albert Zagozan and his wife, Patti, of Export; five sisters , Angeline Helen Long of Delmont, Josephine Talerico of Slickville, Audrey Wright of Greensburg, Barbara Blazek and her husband, Frank, of Delmont and Mary Ann Shedlock and her husband, Albert, of Greensburg; five grandchildren, Theresa Nicely and her husband, Anthony, John Sapp III, Timothy Stewart Jr., and Sean and Adam Black; and a number of nieces and nephews. Following visitation Wednesday at the Rybicki & Son Funeral Home in Cleveland, Mr. Zagozan's family will receive friends at the JOHN L. BASH FUNERAL HOME, 152 Abbe Place, Delmont, (724) 468-8381, Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the John L. Bash Funeral Home Thursday at 8:45 p.m. with the Rev. Raymond E. Riffle officiating. Interment will follow on Saturday morning. Family and friends are invited to meet at the funeral home Saturday at 11:30 a.m. there to join in the funeral procession to the cemetery for the graveside Rite of Committal with the Rev. William C. McGuirk officiating.

Andy Joseph Ziros
Hemet, Calif.

Andy Joseph Ziros, 81, of Hemet, Calif., died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, in the Ramona Manor Convalescent Hospital, Hemet. He was born May 9, 1919, in Westmoreland City. He was a retired machinist from Astech, Santa Ana, Calif. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served from 1942 to 1945. He was a member of the 7th Armored Division Association, VFW Post 4089, and a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Hemet. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Pauline Chicklo Ziros; a daughter, Kathleen Creamer of Temecula, Calif.; a son, Andrew Ziros of Bakersfield, Calif.; two grandchildren; a sister, Mary Sapp of North Huntingdon; and a brother, Alex Ziros of Ohio. Visitation Friday from 11 a.m. to noon, the time of service, in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Hemet, Calif., with Pastor Scott Hewes officiating. Interment Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, Calif. Arrangements by the MILLER-JONES MORTUARY INC., 1501 W. Florida Ave., Hemet, CA 92543, (909) 658-3161.

RUTH E. HAMILTON BOTTONFIELD
Ruth E. Hamilton Bottonfield, 86, of Indiana, Pa., formerly of Ligonier, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at the Village House, St. Andrew's Village, Indiana. A daughter of Silas Clark and Cora Mae Hamilton, she was born April 7, 1913, in Indiana, Pa. Mrs. Bottonfield was an avid golfer. She was a former member of the Ligonier Country Club, where she was the Lady's Champion for several years. Her husband, Joe, had been employed as golf pro at the Rolling Rock Club, where she had assisted him in the pro shop. Surviving are a niece, Peggy Cook Albright and husband, Charles, of Penn Run; nephews, John Cook and wife, Carol, of Indiana, Pa., and Vernon Cook and wife, Olga, of Hyattsville, Md.; and many other nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and -nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents mentioned above; her husband, Joseph X., whom she married June 22, 1939, and who died in 1997; three brothers , John, William and George Hamilton; and two sisters , Emma Hamilton and Gertrude Cook. Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the BOWSER-MINICH FUNERAL HOME, Indiana. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Richard Sanford officiating. Interment will be private.

MARY M. TAMASY BOYD

Mary M. Tamasy Boyd, 91, formerly of West Newton, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at the Westmoreland Manor, Hempfield Township. She was born Aug. 10, 1908, in Reduction, a daughter of the late Mary and Barney Tamasy. Mary was a member of the Holy Family Roman Catholic Church in West Newton and a charter member of the Catholic daughters of America Court Miriam #1315. Mary was an accomplished seamstress and artist. She won many first place awards for her rugs, dresses, and paintings while she resided in Florida. She was employed as a seamstress at Kaufmann's and Marlane's Bridal Shop in Pittsburgh. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carson P. Boyd, in 1985; and five brothers , Barney, Thomas, Joseph, Paul, and Martin Tamasy. Mary is survived by three sisters , Ann Donohoe, Irene Shoaf, and Julia Grinarml, all of West Newton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the RICHARD F. DODSON FUNERAL HOME, 213 Main St., West Newton, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Feb. 29, at 9:30 a.m. in the Holy Family R.C. Church in West Newton with the Rev. Thomas W. Rogers as celebrant. Interment will follow in the West Newton Cemetery. The Catholic daughters of America will say the rosary at 3 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.

CATHERINE D. COLLEGE

Catherine D. "Kay" College, 87, of Ligonier, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at the Bethlen Home, Ligonier Township. She was born March 9, 1912, in Versailles, Pa., a daughter of the late Robert James and Elizabeth Jane McHugh Daily. Kay had owned and operated the former Kay's Driving School in Ligonier for over 25 years. She was the first woman in Pennsylvania to own and operate a driving school. She was a member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ligonier. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph G. College, in 1977; and a son, Jack W. Preston. Survived by her daughter-in-law, Romayne Preston of Trafford; two grandchildren, Margaret L. and John R. Preston; a great-granddaughter, Kelly Markferding; three brothers , Robert Daily of Mauertown, Va., Roland Daily of Whitney, and George Daily of Mt. Pleasant; several nieces and nephews; and many dear and loving friends. Friends will be received at the J. PAUL McCRACKEN FUNERAL HOME INC., 144 E. Main St., Ligonier, Tuesday from noon until time of service at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dave Vonschlichten officiating. Interment Ligonier Valley Cemetery. Memorial contributions to St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church.

CHELSEA DeLOTTO

Chelsea "Chuckie" DeLotto, 80, of Spring Hill, Fla., died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. He was born Sept. 16, 1919, in Andover, Mass., a son of the late John and Mary Lichtenberg DeLotto. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was employed in the maintenance department of the J.P. Stevens Company in Andover, Mass. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Ada E. Nutter DeLotto and his second wife, Rita Flanagan DeLotto; three brothers , Frank "Bart," Antonio and Ernest DeLotto; and a sister, Linda Johnston. Mr. DeLotto is survived by the following children, Richard R. Nadeau and his wife, Noreen, of Salem, N.H., Robert C. Stocker of Seaside Park, N.J., Elaine J. Gunderson and her husband, Rodney, of Connellsville and Michael S. Stocker and his wife, Christine, of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; six grandchildren, David A. Nadeau, Carolyn R. Christopher, Robert C. Vennum, Matthew S. Vennum, Lindsay J. Vennum and Jeffrey Stocker; a great-grandson, Damian Vennum; and a brother, Natalie "Nate" DeLotto. There will be no public viewing or visitation. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Connellsville, with the Rev. John Butler as celebrant. Interment will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville.

HELEN FRANCES DINKEL

Helen Frances Dinkel, 75, of Fairmont Street, North Huntingdon, died Friday evening, Feb. 25, 2000, at her home. Born June 7, 1924, in Export, a daughter of the late Jacob and Julia Belczyk Pietrusza. She was a former employee of Action Hardware in Norwin Shopping Center. She was a member of the Ascension Catholic Church, Jeannette and the Hillview Senior Citizens Bowling League, Greensburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers , Eugene, Art and Celestyn Pietrusza. She is survived by her husband, Salem F. Dinkel; two sons , Robert N. and his wife, Palma, of Irwin and Mark Allen Dinkel and his wife, Anna, of Swissvale; grandchildren; three brothers , William Pietrusza of Cleveland, Ohio, Rudy of Rossiter and Phillip of Jeannette; two sisters , Natale Hank of Jeannette and Irene Pietrusza of Youngwood; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the LAWRENCE J. McCLURE FUNERAL HOME, 112 N. Second St., Jeannette, Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Ascension Church. Private interment in the Grandview Cemetery, Export. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to a hospice organization or a charity of choice.

EUGENE L. FRIEL

Eugene L. Friel, 80, of 1012 Springfield Pike, Connellsville, passed away Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, in Uniontown Hospital. He was born June 19, 1919, in Connellsville, a son of the late Edward C. and Emma L. Dobrick Friel. He was a retired insurance salesman and a talented drummer musician. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Connellsville. He was a member and past commander of VFW Post 21, was a member of the American Legion Post 301 and the A.M.U. Local 1, Passaic, N.J. He was a former member of the A.F.M. Local 417, and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife, Margaret A. Friel; three sons , Thomas R. Friel, Robert E. Friel and his wife, Denise, and John J. Friel and his wife, Debbie, all of Connellsville; a daughter, Leah J. Friel of Markleysburg; and four grandchildren, Terry and wife, Cristal, and Christopher, both of Connellsville, and Anna and Emma, both of Dunbar. Friends will be received at the RICHARD KUCERA FUNERAL HOME, 127 E. Fairview Ave., Connellsville, Monday and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Wednesday at 9 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, Connellsville. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the American Legion Post 301 and the VFW Post 21.

JOHN C. GRAHAM

John C. "Jack" Graham, 69, of Ligonier, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, in the Bethlen Home, Ligonier. He was born July 1, 1930, in Ligonier, a son of the late Albert C. and Mildred Ramsey Graham. He was a member of the Covenant United Presbyterian Church, Ligonier. Prior to retirement, he was employed by A.M. General in South Bend, Ind., and the Ligonier Buick Garage. With Jack's employment he traveled all over the world and he said, "There is no place like Ligonier." He was a social member of the Byers-Tosh Post 267 American Legion, Ligonier, and the Ligonier VFW Post 734. Jack is survived by two sons , Stephen West Graham of Latrobe and Martin Albert Graham and his wife, Vonnie, of New Florence; a grandson, Jonathan M. Graham; a brother, Charles Graham; two sisters , Margaret "Peggy" Straitiff and Mary "Polly" Fitchko and her husband, Hearty, all of Ligonier; and two special cousins, Marcia M. Clark and William O. Potts. There will be no visitation. Memorial services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Covenant United Presbyterian Church, North Market and Church streets, Ligonier, with the Rev. John J. McClure officiating. Private interment will be in Ligonier Valley Cemetery. Jack loved to read, so the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Ligonier Valley Library or to the Bethlen Home. Arrangements by the SNYDER FUNERAL HOME INC. & CREMATORY, Ligonier. ALLISON LURAYE HOLT

Allison Luraye Holt, infant daughter of Brian R. and Dana Moses Holt, of North Huntingdon, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. In addition to her parents, she is survived by paternal grandparents, Wayne L. and Judy Smith Holt of Irwin; maternal grandparents, Richard and Mary Coyne Moses of North Huntingdon; paternal great-grandmother, Doris Holt Stark of North Huntingdon; also aunts, uncles, and cousins. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. in Praise Assembly of God Church, Foster Road, North Versailles, with the Rev. Shawn Lyons officiating. Private interment will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Elizabeth Township. Arrangements by the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin.

CECELIA L. LIPNISKIS

Cecelia L. Lipniskis, 79, of Hutchinson, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pittsburgh. She was born Dec. 1, 1920, in Sutersville, a daughter of the late Vincent and Cecelia Rainer Swager. She was a member of the Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, West Newton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew W. Lipniskis, in 1981; two brothers , Vincent and Joseph Swager; and a sister, Dorothy Lubinski. She is survived by a son, Joseph Lipniskis and his wife, Emma Jean, of Hutchinson; two grandsons, Jeffrey Lipniskis and his wife, Antoinette, of Sarver and Kurt Lipniskis and his wife, Laurie, of North Huntingdon; three great-grandchildren, Andrew, Zachary, and Sarah Anne Lipniskis; a brother, John Swager of West Newton; and three sisters , Bertha Tananis of Pittsburgh, Mary Ledbetter of Belle Vernon, and Anne Bittner of New Albany, Ind. Friends will be received at the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY JR. FUNERAL HOME INC., West Newton, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family R.C. Church, West Newton, Wednesday, March 1, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas W. Rogers as celebrant. Interment West Newton Cemetery.
