Marvin John Kabo

Marvin John Kabo, 66, died on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000. Manager of Facilities Engineering and Operation Energy Systems Basic Unit of Westinghouse Electric. He was a member and past president of American Institute of Plant Engineers, Pittsburgh Chapter 7. Certified Plant Engineer. He was a real estate agent for Northwood Realty. Former captain of the U.S. Army, and a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Graduate of Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, with a BASE Degree. Son of Margaret (Novacek) Kabo and the late John Patrick Kabo; husband of Patricia Ann (Novak) Kabo of West Mifflin; Father of Sharon Bich of West Mifflin, Jean Bujdos of Munhall, and John Kabo of Heath, Ohio; brother of Jacqueline Zugar, Barbara Roussel, Dr. Robert Kabo, Gerald and James Kabo; grandfather of Andrew Bich, Amanda Bich, Katie Bujdos, and Tyler Kabo. Friends will be received Sunday and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at GEORGE IRVIN GREEN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 3511 Main St. Munhall. Mass of Christian Burial at Resurrection R.C. Church, West Mifflin, Tuesday at 10 a.m.

Augustine J. Kardos
Brackenridge

Augustine J. "Gus" Kardos, 75, of Brackenridge, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, in Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights. He was born July 20, 1925, in Slovakia, moved to this area in 1926, and had resided here all his life. Mr. Kardos graduated from Ken Hi in 1943 and from Tri State University, Angola, Ind., in 1947. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Kardos was a mechanical engineer for Allegheny Ludlum, Brackenridge Works, retiring in 1993 after 43 years of service. He was a member of St. Joseph Parish, Natrona. He was a ham radio operator who used call sign WA3EMR. He also enjoyed woodworking and reading. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Wilma Brestensky Kardos; a son, David M. Kardos of Pittsburgh; two daughters , Mrs. Cameron (Kathy) Kardos-Farah of San Francisco, Calif., and Mrs. Kevin (Theresa) McCarthy of Greensburg; and a grandson, Everett James McCarthy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Proubcin Kardos; and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Kardos. There will be no public visitation. A blessing service was held today, Monday, at the ROBERT PETERS FUNERAL HOME INC., 1521 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights, with the Rev. Donald J. Sotak officiating. Private burial followed in Mt. Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 10 Duff Road, Suite 304, Pittsburgh, PA 15235-3207.

William R. Metro
North Huntingdon

William R. Metro, 72, of North Huntingdon, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, in the Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. He was born July 7, 1928, in Braddock, a son of the late Albert and Helen Kraly Metro. He was a retired pump operator for U.S. Steel, Edgar Thomson Works, Braddock; a member of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church of North Huntingdon; and a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Army. Surviving are his wife, Mary Ternoway Metro; three children, Robert Paul Metro of Downingtown, Mary Theresa and her husband, Regis Franko, of Harrison City and David William Metro of North Dakota; three grandchildren, Gregory, Vanessa and Christopher Franko; two sisters , Jackie Kaminsky of Swissvale and Roberta Nucci of Penn Hills; and a brother, Albert Metro of Fairfax, Va. Friends were received Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and will be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JOSEPH F. OTT FUNERAL HOME INC., 504 Oak St., Irwin. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Interment will follow in the Monongahela Cemetery, North Braddock.

Mary A. Oleksak
Shaler

Mary A. Oleksak, 79, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, in Forbes Hospice, Pittsburgh. Born Feb. 24, 1921 in Oil City, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Mary Fink. She is survived by her husband, Martin M. Oleksak Sr. of Shaler; a son, Martin Oleksak Jr. of Shaler; three sisters , Ann Radmore, Blanche Kunz and Dorothy Andrako, all of Titusville; four brothers , Bill Rhoades of Kentucky, George Rhoades, of Tennessee, Jim Rhoades of Greensburg and Jerome Rhoades, of Oil City, Pa.; and two grandsons and one great-grandson. She was the past president of American Legion Post 565, past president of Women's Auxilliary, North Hampton Volunteer Fire Co. and a member of the Women's Auxilliary of Troy Hill. Mrs. Oleksak had been employed as a food service worker. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday in BOCK FUNERAL HOME, LTD., 1500 Mt. Royal Blvd., Shaler. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Bonaventure Church with Fr. Mark A. Thomas officiating. Interment will be in Mount Royal Cemetery, 2700 Mt. Royal Blvd., Shaler.

Gregory B. Proud
Homestead

Gregory B. Proud, 46, died on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000. Born on June 19, 1954, he was the son of Wilfred Proud of Homestead and the late Florence (Howey) Proud. Survived by a sister, Ellen Yarkovsky. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in GEORGE IRVIN GREEN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 3511 Main St., Munhall, where a blessing service will be held Tuesday at a time to be announced. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Munhall.

Reynold E. Ruffo Sr.
Greensburg
Formerly of Youngwood

Reynold E. "Ray" Ruffo Sr., 83, of Greensburg, formerly of Youngwood and Scottdale, passed away Friday, Sept. 15, 2000. He was born Dec. 16, 1916, a son of the late Albert Ruffo and Giovani Mastrangelo Ruffo Santia. He was Catholic by faith, a member of Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, Youngwood. He was a graduate of Youngwood High School with the Class of 1938. Prior to retirement, he was employed by Detroit Mold Engineering Inc., Youngwood. He was also owner and operator of Ruffo's Bar in South Greensburg for several years. He was a member of the Connellsville Senior Tigers, Youngwood L.O.O.M. 23, Scottdale Elks 777, Touchdown Club of Latrobe and the A and B Club of Youngwood. He is survived by two sons , Albert Ruffo of Bovard and Reynold E. Ruffo Jr. of Youngwood; three daughters , Constance "Connie" Pace of Greensburg, Nina Van Zant and husband, Randall, of Sneedville, Tenn., and Dianne Ruffo of Virginia; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and three stepsisters, Mrs. Joseph (Virginia) Sarcelone of Aliquippa, Mrs. Michael (Lizzie) Consi of Greensburg and Mrs. Angelo (Jenny) Farzati of Greensburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Ruffo; two brothers , Earl Ruffo and Floyd Ruffo; two sisters , Viola Placey and Theresa Ruffo Michelle; a stepsister, Theresa Cerilla; two stepbrothers, Chester Santia and Floyd Santia; and his stepfather, Anthony "Tony" Santia. Funeral services will be private, officiated by the Rev. Father Francis Lesniowski of St. Rita R.C. Church, Connellsville. Entombment will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont. Arrangements are being handled by the VITO C. MARTUCCI FUNERAL HOME, 123 S. First St. (West Side), Connellsville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Youngwood Sports Gallery, 17 S. Sixth St., Youngwood, PA 15697.

James K. Snyder
White Oak

James K. Snyder, 47, of White Oak, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at UPMC McKeesport. He was born April 8, 1953, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late Glenn D. and Patricia Ann Bienia Snyder. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife, Pattie L. Kerr Snyder; two stepsons, CJ Skiles of South Carolina and Ryan Skiles of White Oak; two brothers , Patrick Snyder of Maryland and Michael Snyder of Alverton; and a nephew, Brian Snyder of Michigan. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the FORGIE-SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 1032 Broadway, East McKeesport. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Eric E. Dennis officiating. Interment will follow at Penn-Lincoln Memorial Park.

Mercedes D. Vilsack
Shaler Township

Mercedes D. Vilsack, of Shaler Township, on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000. Miss Vilsack was a retired bookkeeper for the Commercial Credit Company. She was the beloved daughter of the late Leopold W. and Nellie Vetter Vilsack. Sister of Genevieve Vilsack Armstrong of Philadelphia and the late Virginia V. Kelly, Pauline V. Schofield, Leopold W. Vilsack III and Robert Vilsack; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Paul's Cathedral Church, Oakland. Visitation with the family one hour prior to services at St. Paul's. Family respectfully suggests donations be made to the St. Vincent De Paul Society. Arrangements by the FRANK R. Charles H. `Chip' Wilson III.
Evans City

Charles H. "Chip" Wilson, III, 27, of Evans City, died Saturday morning, September 16, 2000, from injuries received in an auto accident on Route 68 in Forward Twp. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Born in McCandless on January 1, 1973, he was the son of Charles H. Wilson, Jr. and Eleanor Cahall Wilson, both of Evans City. He was a bricklayer for Phillips Masonry, and was an avid NASCAR Racing and dirt bike riding and racing fan. He was of the Presbyterian faith and had attended Seneca Valley High School. Survivors are his mother , Eleanor Cahall Wilson of Evans City; his Father and step-mother , Charles and Terry Dunbar Wilson of Evans City; his paternal grandparents, Charles H. and Mary Lou Clarkson Wilson, Sr. of Evans City; his maternal grandparents, Grant and Lila Fuhr Dunbar of Punta Gorda, Fla.; one sister, Mrs. Craig (Sandy) Pirrera of Palm Bay, Fla.; three step-brothers , Robert (J.R.), Timothy and Shawn Held, all of Evans City and two nieces and two nephews. Friends will be received at the MCDONALD-AEBERLI FUNERAL HOME, INC., 238 Crowe Ave., Mars, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Funeral service follow at 8:30 p.m., with Rev. Robert B. McCrumb II, pastor of the Mars United Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be private.

Matthew Ned Aikens
Lycippus

Matthew Ned Aikens, 32, of Lycippus, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, in Mt. Pleasant Township. He was born Nov. 30, 1967, in Latrobe, a son of Fern Walters Aikens of Lycippus and the late Robert J. Aikens. He was employed by Advanced Security as a courier for the Latrobe Area Hospital. He was a member of the Pleasant Unity United Methodist Church and a social member of various clubs. In addition to his mother , he is survived by a sister, Karen Trimble and her husband, Garry, of Downingtown; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Friends will be received in the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m., with a funeral service to be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, with the Rev. Clark R. Kerr officiating. Interment in Lycippus Community Cemetery.

Thomas F. Bishop
New Alexandria

Thomas F. Bishop, 68, of New Alexandria, passed away Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, in Allegheny General Hospital, North Side. He was born Feb. 16, 1932, in Duquesne, a son of the late Frederick R. and Rose Ella Noel Bishop. He served with the U.S. Army in Korea. He retired from the Gulf Oil Corp., where he was plant operator, after 41 years of service. He was of the Catholic faith. He was a member of the New Alexandria Lions Club, where he was past president, a life member of the New Alexandria Fire Department #77, where he was chaplain and a former trustee, and a member of the B.P.O.E. #907 of Latrobe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marian Bishop Rodgers. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary Ann Hanrahan Bishop of New Alexandria; three children, Beth Bishop Mongelluzzo of Delmont, John F. "Jack" and wife, Heidi, of Pickerington, Ohio and James T. "Jim" of New York, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Danielle, Anthony and Vincent Mongelluzzo, Bryce and Cameron Bishop; and a sister, Nancy Bloom of Trafford. Friends will be received Tuesday 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the P. DAVID NEWHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, Corner of Church and Washington streets, New Alexandria, where services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Terry J. Carnahan, pastor of the Community United Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park Inc., Delmont. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Alexandria Volunteer Fire Department or the New Alexandria Lions Club. Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. by the New Alexandria Fire Department and Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. by the New Alexandria Lions Club.
