James K. Snyder, 47, of White Oak, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at UPMC McKeesport. He was born April 8, 1953, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late Glenn D. and Patricia Ann Bienia Snyder. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife, Pattie L. Kerr Snyder; two stepsons, CJ Skiles of South Carolina and Ryan Skiles of White Oak; two brothers , Patrick Snyder of Maryland and Michael Snyder of Alverton; and a nephew, Brian Snyder of Michigan. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the FORGIE-SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 1032 Broadway, East McKeesport. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Eric E. Dennis officiating. Interment will follow at Penn-Lincoln Memorial Park.
Harry G. Sprung

Harry G. Sprung, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000. Mr. Sprung was the devoted Father of 12 children and 25 grandchildren. He was a 1939 graduate of St. Mary of the Mount High School, Mt. Washington . He made All-Catholic Basketball, 1939. Mr. Sprung was a 1943 graduate of Mount St. Mary's College, Emmitsburg, Md. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and served as an officer in Europe and the Pacific. He was active in his college alumni group, the Knights of Columbus 1400 and American Legion Post 0756. Harry played the organ and piano and sang in several church choirs with his uncles at one time and was a daily communicant devoted to the Blessed mother and the Holy Rosary. He was married for 50 years to the late Doris Sprung, beloved mother of their 12 children. He was married in March 1999 at the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Ind. by the Rev. Theodore Hesburgh, president emeritus of Notre Dame, to his high school classmate, the former Winifred Virginia Fleig of Mt. Washington , a widow with eight children and 19 grandchildren in California and Colorado. Friends will be received from noon to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the LAWRENCE T. MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 460 Lincoln Ave., Bellevue. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Church of the Assumption, 45 N. Sprague Ave., Bellevue. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Violet Slater Krepps Tomb, 75, of Carlisle, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, died Friday morning, Sept. 15, 2000, at her residence. She was born Nov. 30, 1924, in Mt. Pleasant, a daughter of the late Edward and Margaret Pearl Shaffer Krepps. She was a member of Shepherd of the Valley Methodist Church, Phoenix, Ariz. Prior to her retirement, she was a cafeteria worker for Deer Valley High School, Phoenix, Ariz., and Sears, Colonial Park. She was a graduate of the former Hurst High School. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert G. Tomb, in 1982. She is survived by two sons , Larry Tomb and wife, Alice, of Beaverton, Ore., and Daniel Tomb and wife, Cathleen, of Mesa, Ariz.; two daughters , Patricia Kritikos and husband, John, of Carlisle, with whom she made her home, and Sandra Parrish and husband, Ronald, of Phoenix, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers , Floyd Krepps of Augusta, Ga., Duane Krepps and wife, Julia, of Acme and Ronald Krepps and wife, Carol, of Acme; and a sister, Elma Brechbill and husband, Glenn, of Hayesville, N.C. Stanley T. Tylka, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Born in Mt. Pleasant, Sept. 18, 1911, he was a son of the late Joseph J. and Angeline Zilinsky Tylka. He was a member of Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church of Mt. Pleasant. He worked as a coal miner at Maple Creek Mine for 33 years. He was also a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local #156 and the Mt. Pleasant Firemen's Club. Surviving are his loving family; his wife of 53 years, Blanche R. Domurat Tylka; his children, Kathleen Mizikar and her husband, David M., of Mammoth, Jo-ann E. Parks and her husband, Bruce, of Louisville, Ky., and Thomas N. Tylka and his wife, Vanessa, of Mt. Pleasant; brothers , John Tylka and his wife, Evelyn, of Chicago, Ill., and Walter Tylka and his wife, Martha, of Lorain, Ohio; and sisters , Mary Stafira and Helen Chernek, both of Mt. Pleasant. In addition to his parents, Stanley was preceded in death by brothers , Frank, Michael and Joseph Tylka; and sisters , Sophie Borek and Catherine Kramarski. Friends will be received from noon to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at GALONE-CARUSO'S, 204 Eagle St., Mt. Pleasant. Louise Matilda (Holby) Vaira-Empfield, 94, of North Versailles, formerly of Pitcairn and New York, died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2000. Born March 25, 1906 in Bairdstown, Pa., she was an avid Chautauqua Lake fisher. She had made her home with her niece, Mary Malloy, for 10 years. She was preceded in death by her two former husbands, Louis Vaira and Ed Empfield. She is survived by Mr. Vaira's three sons , Eugene of New Hampshire, Louis of Massachusetts and Charles of North Versailles; and many nieces and nephews. She is the last of the Holby family. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 12 to 3 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the JOBE FUNERAL HOME INC., corner of Shaw and Triboro Aves., Turtle Creek. Alberta M. Lendrum Wroblewski, 66, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000 in her home. Born Jan. 6, 1934 in Evergreen, Pa., she was the only daughter of the late Richard and Alberta Colbert Lendrum. Mrs. Wroblewski retired from Alcoa in 1989 as a lead bindary lady. Her hobbies included baking, needlework and rock and gem collecting. She also enjoyed flower gardening and traveling. Mrs. Wroblewski was a Catholic. Survivors include her husband, John P. Wroblewski whom she married Jan. 4, 1958; an aunt, Bertha Reinert of Millvale; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 10:30 until 11 a.m. Saturday in Pinewood Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, Route 19, Cranberry, where committal services will be at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dennis Ferguson, pastor of Perry Highway Lutheran Church of Wexford, officiating. Burial will be in the Pinewood Memorial Park, Cranberry Township. William G. Zelinger, 88, of Leesburg, Fla., formerly of Youngwood, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, in Leesburg. He was born Aug. 12, 1912, in Hempfield Township, a son of the late John E. and Pearl Sanner Zelinger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Donald A. Zelinger, in 1981. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy O. Zelinger of Leesburg, Fla.; two sons , Earl E. Zelinger of Auburn, Calif., and Robert G. Zelinger of Eustis, Fla.; a daughter, Carol Ruth Waybright of Leesburg, Fla.; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was a retired production engineer from Robertshaw-Fulton Controls of New Stanton, after 41 years of service. He was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. He was a member of the Robertshaw Retirees Club, the Robertshaw Golf Club, the Youngwood Park and Pool and the Teamsters Union. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Youngwood and the Senior Citizens Group of the church. Friends will be received at the C. Diana P. Abrams, 59, of Greensburg, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, in the Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born Sept. 25, 1940, in the Bronx, N.Y., the daughter of the late Samuel and Helen (Ellenberg) Sussman. Diana was the owner and operator of Michael's of Ligonier Jewelers in Ligonier. She was a member of the Congregation Emanu-El Israel, Greensburg, and the Sisterhood of the Congregation. She also was a life member of Hadassah, and a member of the Ligonier Chamber of Commerce. She graduated from New York University (NYU) as a speech therapist. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Robert M. Abrams; two children, Alan J. Abrams of Jersey City, N.J., and Meryle B. Schreiber and husband, Jason, of Cincinnati, Ohio; two grandchildren, Hadas and Avram Schreiber; and two brothers , Charles Sussman of Long Beach, N.Y., and Terry Sussman and wife, Gail, of Oceanside, N.Y. There will be no funeral home visitation. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Congregation Emanu-El Israel, Greensburg, with Rabbi Sara R. Perman officiating. Pleasant RD7; his loving wife of 24 years, Sandra Keenan Bandemer; four daughters , Laura L. Bandemer and fiance, Jon Philippi, of Merritt Island, Fla., Teresa R. Bandemer of Mt. Born Feb. 19, 1907, in Love Joy, Pa., she was a daughter of the late George and Susanna Singel Fayak. She was a member of the Epiphany of Our Lord Church, Monessen, and a former member of the Most Holy Name Church, Monessen, where she was active in the Christian Mothers Holy Name. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Elias Singel, George Guglar and Joseph Bartus; a daughter, Betty Singel Doman; three sons , Bernard Singel, Elias Singel Jr. and Robert Singel; four brothers , Peter Fayak, Michael Fayak, Joseph Fayak and George Fayak; and three sisters , Susan Fayak Winchester, Margaret Fayak Mertel and Mary Fayak Lepori. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Norbert and Anne Canestrale Singel of Monessen; a stepson, John Bartus; a stepdaughter, Anne Miller; two sisters , Josephine Swansick and Irene Dodaro; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
