Thomas F. Cook

Formerly of West View

Thomas F. Cook, 89, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at the Little sisters of the Poor, Brighton Heights. Born Feb. 26, 1911 in Washington , Pa., he was the son of the late Sylvester and Theodora Heer Cook. He was a retired driver-salesman for Braun Baking Co. He was World War II Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Helen Moore Cook; a son, Regis S. Cook of Florida; a daughter, Virginia I. Cook of Pittsburgh; and two grandchildren. Friends received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Little sisters of the Poor, James P. Wall Home, 1028 Benton Ave., Pittsburgh 15212. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:45 a.m. Saturday in Little sisters of the Poor Chapel. Burial will be in North Side Catholic Cemetery, Ross. Memorial contributions may be made to Little sisters of the Poor, 1028 Benton Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15212. Arrangements are by T.B. DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, 806 Perry Highway, Ross.

Ralph DeCarlucci Jr.
Mt. Lebanon

Ralph DeCarlucci Jr., 62, of Mt. Lebanon, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, in Forbes Hospice. Born July 4, 1938 in Uniontown, Pa., he was the son of the late Columba Russo and Ralph DeCarlucci Sr. He worked as barber, hairstylist and manager for Masculine Manor in Scott for 27 years. Ralph was a 39 year resident of Mt. Lebanon and a member of St. Bernard Church, Mt. Lebanon, where he was a former of usher. He is survived by his wife, Nancy L. Shallenberger DeCarlucci; four sons , R. Matthew DeCarlucci of Burlington, Mass., Stephen L. DeCarlucci of Dormont, Mark E. DeCarlucci of Greensburg and David A. DeCarlucci of Brookline; three sisters , Ponsella Ewing and Rita DeCarlucci of Uniontown, Pa. and Joann Blocher of Arnold, Md.; and five grandchildren. There will be no visitation. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Bernard Church, Mt. Lebanon with the Rev. James Torquatto as celebrant. Interment will be in the mausoleum at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the mausoleum following services. Memorial contributions may be made to Forbes Hospice, Frankstown Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15206 or St. Bernard Church, Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon. Michael A. Fiano
Connellsville

Michael A. Fiano, 80, of Connellsville, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, in Highlands Hospital, Connellsville. He was born Sept. 20, 1919, in Nellie, Pa., a son of the late Peter and Angela Marie Iademarco Fiano. Mr. Fiano was retired from the U.S. Steel Homestead Works, where he was employed for more than 30 years. He was a graduate of the former Immaculate Conception High School in Connellsville and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the 101st Airborne Division. He was a member of VFW Post 21 of Connellsville and a member of St. Rita Roman Catholic Church, Connellsville. He is survived by his wife, Mary Brunetti Fiano; three sons , Gerard Fiano and his wife, Joyce, of Mt. Pleasant, Christopher Fiano and his wife, Jane, of Connellsville and Jeffrey Fiano and his wife, Renee, of Connellsville; eight grandchildren, Kasie, Christopher, Anna, Sarah, Elizabeth, Maria, Michael and Vincent Fiano; a brother, Victor Fiano, of Connellsville; and three sisters , Catherine Hrezo of Connellsville, Evelyn Martinelli and her husband, James, of Hagerstown, Md., and Viola Jean Ritz of Tampa, Fla. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by five brothers , Philip, Nicholas, James, Joseph and John Fiano; and two sisters , Angeline Sherman and Laura McGann. Friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Rita R.C. Church, Connellsville, with the Rev. Frank Lesniowski as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Rita Cemetery. military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the American Legion and VFW Post Honor Guard. A parish wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

Elizabeth N. `Betty' Geiger
Murrysville

Elizabeth N. "Betty" Geiger, 78, of Murrysville, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, in the Forbes Hospice, East End. She was born June 26, 1922, in Glasgow, Scotland, a daughter of the late James and Georgina Stewart Noble. She was one of the present owners of the Murrysville Golf Club. She was a longtime member and choir member of the First Presbyterian Church of Murrysville, received the Paul Harris Fellow Award by the Murrysville-Export Rotary Club and had been active in numerous community volunteer activities in Murrysville for many years. She is survived by her husband, Vincent A. "Pete" Geiger; two sons , James R. Geiger and his wife, Sharon, of Export and Robert N. Geiger and his wife, Lori, of Sewickley; a daughter, Kathryn Shuster and her husband, Fred, of Sterling, Va.; four grandchildren, Allyson and Brad Geiger, and Greg and Jeff Shuster; a brother, James A. Noble and his wife, Jane, of Murrysville; a sister, May Funk and her husband, Ray, of Murrysville; and a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JOHN T. HART FUNERAL HOME, Murrysville. A service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the First Presbyterian Church of Murrysville with the Rev. Wesley Blaha officiating. Private interment will follow in the Murrysville Cemetery. If desired, memorials may be made to the church or the American Cancer Society.

Matthew D. Gladden
Palm Harbor, Fla.

Matthew D. Gladden, 25, of Palm Harbor, Fla., died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, in an auto accident. Matthew lived in Monroeville until age 11, then moved to Erie with his family. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, stationed at Marine Headquarters, 8th & I in Washington , D.C., then served two tours of South America. After his term of service he moved to Florida and worked as a supervisor for a large security firm. He is survived by his parents, Carol and Keith Kaufman of Palm Harbor, Fla.; brother and sister-in-law, Richard Jr. and Angela Gladden with niece, Allison, of Erie; sister, Tracy Kaufman of Columbus, Ohio; sister and brother-in-law, Sherry and Gregg Burns with nephew, Nicholas Ruefle, of Pittsburgh; and grandmothers, Helen Kaufman of Oakmont and Ellen Zaus of Englewood, Fla. Memorial services to be held in Penn Hills at Trinity Towers United Methodist Church, 6729 Saltsburg Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15235, Saturday, Sept. 16, at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be sent in honor of Matthew D. Gladden to: Florida Sheriff's Youth Ranches, 3180 Enterprise Road East, Safety Harbor, FL 34695.

Anthony M. Godlewski
Grapeville

Anthony M. Godlewski, 82, of Grapeville, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, in the IHS of Greater Pittsburgh at Greensburg. He was born June 13, 1918, in Jeannette, a son of the late Hipolit and Annastazia Bartoszek Godlewski. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the former General Tire of Jeannette. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church of Jeannette and the church's Holy Name Society. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Clara M. Hartung Godlewski, in 1999; and three brothers , Leonard, Walter and Bernard Godlewski. Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received in the JOHN V. GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 228 N. Second St., Jeannette, beginning Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Church. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Hempfield Township. The Sacred Heart Holy Name Society will pray the rosary Sunday at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

Grace E. (Kiehl) Graham
West Mifflin

Grace E. (Kiehl) Graham, 99, of West Mifflin, on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000. She was a former volunteer at Homestead Hospital. Wife of the late Leslie R. Graham; and mother of Mrs. Lawrence (June) Jones of West Mifflin and Leslie Graham Jr. of Monroeville. Also survived by five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the GEORGE IRVIN GREEN FUNERAL HOME INC., 3511 Main St., Munhall, where services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday.

James August Hernon
Charlotte, N.C.,
Formerly of Aspinwall

James August Hernon, 74, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, in his oldest daughter's home in Charlotte, N.C. Born Sept. 6, 1926, he was the son of the late John L. and Cecelia Lutz Hernon. Mr. Hernon graduated from the St. Scholastic parish school in Aspinwall, where he played center for the basketball team. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, who served two years. He earned a two-year business degree from Duquesne University's business school. Mr. Hernon spent most of his career at the Pittsburgh Brewing Co., which he left in 1983 as director of marketing to head an international sales project for Pabst Brewing Co. in Milwaukee. He retired there and then moved to Charlotte, N.C. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include two daughters , Pamela J. Olzewski, and her husband, Joseph A., of Charlotte, N.C., and Julianne H. Ledbetter, and her husband, Thomas L., of Wayne, Pa.; a son, James T. Hernon of Milwaukee; a brother, Thomas G. Hernon, and his wife, Helen, of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Lisa J. Olzewski Moyer, and her husband, Todd L., of O'Hara, Joseph James Olzewski of Charlotte, N.C., and Kelsey E. Ledbetter and Jessica L. Ledbetter, both of Wayne, Pa. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hernon was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Freidhof Hernon. A memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Sunday in St. Mary Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, O'Hara. Alfred J. Herzog, on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000. Beloved husband of Anna Marie (Bisbey) Herzog; Father of Carrie A. Harr, David A., Kathleen M., Mark R., Timothy G. and Eric D. Herzog; and grandfather of Zachary, Alex, Emily and Jacob Herzog. Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday in WM. SLATER & SONS INC., Virginia Avenue and Kearsarge Street, Mt. Washington . Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Bernard Church.

Vivian F. Irvine
Hempfield Township

Vivian F. Irvine, 88, of Greensburg (Hempfield Township), formerly of Pitcairn, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, in the William Penn Care Center, Penn Township. She was born April 9, 1912, in Wall (Allegheny County), a daughter of the late Samuel R. and Etta Poorman Boyd. She was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Delmont, and a 60-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, including membership in the Corinth Chapter #229 in Pitcairn and serving as a past matron of the former chapter in Wilmerding. She also was a member of the Pitcairn Senior Citizens and the Greensburg Garden Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas A. Irvine, in 1994; six brothers , William, Samuel, Joseph, Theodore, Robert and Ellis Boyd; and two sisters , Hazel Keagel and Emma Clark. She is survived by two nieces, Eleanor Boyd McCamant of Greensburg and Emma Jane Clark Gohn of Fairview; nine nephews, Joseph and Harold Boyd of Greensburg, Robert R. Boyd of Latrobe, Elmer Boyd of Florida, Wayne Boyd of Michigan, Robert E. Boyd of Ohio, Richard Boyd of Illinois, David Boyd of Arizona and Thomas Keagel of Maryland; and a number of grandnieces and grandnephews. Mrs. Irvine's family will receive friends at the JOHN L. BASH FUNERAL HOME, 152 Abbe Place, Delmont, (724) 468-8381, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. An Order of Eastern Star service will be held in the funeral home Friday evening. Funeral home hours: Friday 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral and committal services will be held in the funeral home Saturday at 11 a.m. with her pastor, the Rev. James R. Wagner, officiating. Entombment will be private. Cynthia L. "Cindy" Jarnot, 45, of Latrobe, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, in Latrobe Area Hospital. Born in Wilkinsburg, Oct. 6, 1954, she was the daughter of Clair Byerly Sr. and Elizabeth "Betty" Stofko Byerly of Harrison City. She was a member of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church. She had been employed as a manager by Fashion Bug. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Michael Jarnot; a daughter, Kristin Nicole Jarnot at home; and a brother, Clair "Pat" Byerly Jr. of Harrison City. Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Latrobe. Interment in St. Vincent Cemetery, Unity Township. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LAH Charitable Foundation, Breast Cancer Research, in memory of Cindy L. Jarnot, 121 W. Second Ave., Latrobe, PA 15650.
