Gladys S. Jones, 89, of Penn, died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000, in IHS of Greater Pittsburgh, Hempfield Township. She was born Sept. 17, 1910, in Hempfield Township, a daughter of the late William W. and Mary Maude Johnson Silvis. She was a member of the Penn Evangelical Lutheran Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Jones; a sister, Alice Long; and two brothers , Woodrow and Robert Silvis. She is survived by a daughter, Alice "Spirk" Heffelfinger and her husband, Robert, of Penn; two grandsons, Bob Heffelfinger and his wife, Barb, and Chuck Heffelfinger and his wife, Karen, both of Penn; four great-grandchildren, Marc Heffelfinger, Eric Heffelfinger and his wife, Michele, Amy Heffelfinger and her fiance, Jeremy Smith and Erin Heffelfinger; a great-great-grandson, Cody Smith; a sister, Marie Blansett of Greensburg; a brother, William H. Silvis and his wife, Joan, of Greensburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received in the MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 N. First St., Jeannette, Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Robert J. Marks officiating. Interment will follow in St. Paul's Reformed Cemetery, Trauger.

Sarah Elizabeth Cunkelman Keller, 94, of Redstone Highlands, Greensburg, formerly of Irwin and Jeannette, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, at home. She was born May 20, 1906, in Jeannette, a daughter of the late William H. and M.E. Gertrude Stump Cunkelman. She was a retired teacher and principal in the Jeannette School District and a lifetime member of Grace United Church of Christ, Jeannette. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Francis E. Keller; and a brother, Dr. John W. Cunkelman. She is survived by a sister, Margaret G. Potiseck of North Huntingdon; and two nephews, Allan E. Cenis and his wife, Rose, of Washington , Pa., and John W. Cenis and his wife, Joyce, of Irwin. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Jeffrey W. Norris officiating. Interment will follow in Brush Creek Cemetery, Hempfield Township. Harriet Louise Wildey Kirkpatrick

Harriet Louise Wildey Kirkpatrick, 94, of Pittsburgh, died of cancer on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, at her home in Canterbury Place. She was the widow of Robert Lewis Kirkpatrick, a founding member and senior partner of the Pittsburgh law firm, Kirkpatrick & Lockhart. Mr. Kirkpatrick died in 1987. Born in Stafford Springs, Conn., in 1905, to Fred and Sadie Jacobus Wildey, Mrs. Kirkpatrick was a graduate of Stafford High School and the Dearborn-Morgan School in New Jersey. She graduated from Wellesley College in 1929. A longtime resident of Pittsburgh, Mrs. Kirkpatrick was active in many local organizations. She was a member of the original board of directors of Holmes House, and served as its president for several years. An active member of East Liberty Presbyterian Church since 1932, she was the first woman ordained as an Elder there, and served in that capacity from 1968 to 1970. She also served as president of the Women's Association. She was also a "Host mother " for two American Field Service students and a Cuban refugee. Until very recently, she also volunteered at Western Pennsylvania Hospital and read to Alzheimer's patients at Canterbury Place. Mrs. Kirkpatrick was also a member of the Wellesley Club and the Duquesne Club. In 1963, Mr. and Mrs. Kirkpatrick purchased 72 acres of land adjacent to the Fallingwater property near Mill Run, where they maintained a second family home called High Meadow. The house and property were donated to the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy in 1989. Mrs. Kirkpatrick is survived by her daughter, Harriet Louise Kirkpatrick of Tucson, Ariz.; and her sons , Robert Lewis Kirkpatrick Jr. of Middletown, Conn., and James Wildey Kirkpatrick of Bethesda, Md. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Horace Wildey in 1889; her sister, Mary Wildey Barton, in 1973; and a daughter, Judith Kirkpatrick Sigler, in 1997. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of East Liberty Presbyterian Church Saturday at 11 a.m. with a reception for family and friends immediately following the service. Dr. Richard E. Sigler will preside. Michael Kubinec

Michael Kubinec, 78, of Greensburg RD6, died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000, at his home. He was born Aug. 5, 1922, in Greensburg, a son of the late Mike and Susie Kokinda Kubinec. Prior to retirement, he had been a construction superintendent. Mr. Kubinec was a member of Harrold Zion Lutheran Church, Greensburg RD6. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from December 26, 1942, to April 9, 1946, as a PFC in the 476th military Police Escort Guard Company. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers for 44 years, and a social member of the Carbon Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Kubinec was an avid gardener and woodworker. He was a longtime member and past president of the Penn-West Chrysanthemum Society. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers , George and Thomas Kubinec. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Jane (Ramsier) Kubinec; a son, Thomas M. and his wife, Alanna Kubinec, of Greensburg; two daughters , Sandra and her husband, Leigh Masterson, of Houston, Texas and Nancy K. and her husband, J.C. Gongaware, of St. Louis, Mo.; four grandchildren, Thomas J. Kubinec and Caitlin Kubinec, both of Greensburg, Andrea Viola of Houston, Texas , and Jason Michael Gongaware of St. Louis, Mo.; two brothers , John Kubinec and Richard and his wife, Joyce Kubinec; two sisters , Margaret Takach and Emma Brownfield; a sister-in-law, Gene Kubinec, all of Greensburg; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton at Green streets, Greensburg, beginning Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Additional visitation will be held Wednesday in Harrold Zion Lutheran Church from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. in the church with the Rev. John S. Lotz, 75, of Hampton, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000. Born Dec. 3, 1924 in Millvale, he was the son of the late John A. and Tresa Sippel Lotz. Mr. Lotz was a Navy veteran of World War II and worked as machinist for the Jackson Gear Company. Survivors include his wife Dorothea Brinski Lotz; three daughters , Virginia Kautzman of New Castle, Marion "Chick" Montgomery of California and Donna Sternberg of New York; two sons , John "Jay" Lotz of Boston and Tom Lutz of California; one sister, Anna Mae Dull of Cheswick. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Jeanne Lotz. Friends received from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday in the BOCK FUNERAL HOME, 1500 Mt. Royal Blvd., Shaler. Mabel G. McCullough, 86, of Greensburg, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, in the Redstone Highlands, Greensburg. She was born Feb. 26, 1914, in Holbrook (Greene County), Pa., a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Weaver Grimes. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed by Sears, Roebuck and Co. in Greensburg and was a member of the Sears Retirees. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Greensburg, where she was also a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, H. Willis McCullough; three brothers , George, Robert and Earl Grimes; and a sister, Marjorie Arnold. She is survived by three daughters , Lena "Lee" Speicher and her husband, Charles, of Greensburg, Louise King and her husband, Harold, of Eighty Four, Pa., and Shirley Heep and her husband, Thomas, of Littleton, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Edith Loughman of Washington , Pa. Harold E. McLean, 76, of Latrobe, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, in Lancaster. He was born Feb. 12, 1924, in Scottdale, the son of the late Harry Thomas and Thelma Farmer McLean. He was a machinist, retired from Kennametal. He was a member of the Latrobe United Presbyterian Church, American Legion Post 982 and the AARP. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Smith McLean in 1984. He is survived by his son, Craig S. McLean of Latrobe; and a sister, Gail McLean of Acme. Friends will be received Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe, where service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Donald W. John Thomas Mormack, 84, of Latrobe RD1, died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000, at his home. He was born May 24, 1916, in Hostetter, a son of the late John and Anna (Vargovich) Mormack. Prior to retirement, he worked as a maintenance foreman at the U.S. Steel Duquesne works. He was a member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Whitney, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was also a member of the St. Cecilia Holy Name Society, Unity Township American Legion Post #982, American Slovak Society of Bradenville, Possum Hollow Rod and Gun Club, and the Jednota. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth L. "Betty" (Grandetty) Mormack; a daughter, Dorothy E. Moleski; and a sister, Marie De Las Santos. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Betty Ann) Patts of Latrobe; a son, John A. Mormack and wife, Becky, of Latrobe RD1; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul Mormack and wife, Bertha, of Latrobe; two sisters , Mrs. Sullivan (Helen) Delle Donna of Greensburg and Margaret Bowman of New York; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the GAUT-BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., Pleasant Unity, Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Wednesday at 9:20 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated in St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Whitney, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Donald L. Murphy, "the Coach," 65, of Castle Shannon, formerly of White hall. He was the beloved Father of seven children, Mark of Baltimore, Md., Michael (Edie) of Bear, Del., Robert (Karen) of White hall, Dean (Lori) of Alvin, Texas , James (Kathy) of Bethel Park, Donna Haley (Chuck) of Lancaster, Pa. and Holly Tuite (Aidan) of Dublin, Ohio; son of Harriett Murphy and the late Delmar Murphy; brother of Sue Hankowsky; grandfather of 21 grandchildren; and beloved companion of Loretta Gonzales. He retired from LTV Railroad in January, 2000, while fighting a courageous battle and beating the odds (a philosophy he used and taught throughout his life.) Mr. Murphy coached basketball at St. Gabriel School, St. Francis Academy, Duquesne University and Thomas Jefferson High School for over 30 years. Though retired from coaching for some time, he never lost his love for sports. With the love and encouragement of family and friends, he coached himself into overtime. Edward O. Parry

Edward O. "Ted" Parry, 87, of Fox Chapel, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, after a brief illness in St. Barnabas Nursing Home. Born April 9, 1913 in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Judge George Gowen Parry and Sara Fox Parry. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Virginia Lloyd Parry; three devoted sons , Edward Owen Parry Jr. of Charlottesville, Va., David L. Parry of Erie and William L. Parry of Raleigh, N.C.; his loving daughters -in-law, Susan J. Parry and Susan B. Parry; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Parry was educated at Germantown Academy and Haverford College. He also spent a year at Prince Royal's College in Chiengmai, Thailand before serving honorably in the Army from 1942 to 1946 in the Philippines during World War II. He spent his business life in the computer and information processing fields for insurance companies, railroads and utilities. An avid reader, history buff, genealogist and published author (A Life Remembered, Professional Press, 1998), Mr. Parry never tired of learning. He was one of only eight Fellows in the U.S. Army military History Institute. Mr. Parry was a member of the sons of the Revolution, Mayflower Descendants and the Civil War Roundtable. A devoted husband and loving Father , grandfather and great-grandfather, Ted will be missed by his family and surviving brothers : Dr. H. Frazer Parry of Blue Bell, Pa., Col. Francis F. Parry of Flourtown, Pa. and John C. Parry of Charleston, S.C., but remembered always as the wonderful person he was. Arrangement are being handled by WEDDELL-AJAK FUNERAL HOME, Aspinwall. There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 15, in the Fox Chapel Episcopal Church. Also, a memorial service will be held in Philadelphia at the convenience of the family.
