Margaret "Peg" (Miller) Jellison, 72, of North Huntingdon, died Monday, March 13, 2000, at Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. She was born Aug. 10, 1927, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late James D. and Anna (Butler) Miller. She was a retired shipping clerk at Westinghouse, Trafford (printing division). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel W. Jellison; and two sisters , Virginia R. Carey and Gladys M. Yankora. Survived by a daughter, Karen A. Prue of Chicago, Ill.; a brother, David T. Miller of Pittsburgh; a sister, Katherine Vonahnen of Philadelphia; several nieces and nephews; and many loving and caring friends. Friends were received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the VINCENT V. RODGERS FUNERAL HOME, 805 Pennsylvania Ave., Irwin. Service will be held in the funeral home chapel Thursday, March 16, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Norman E. Nething officiating. Interment Irwin Union Cemetery. CLYDE R. KERR
Clyde R. "Dick" Kerr, 74, of North Versailles, peacefully on Sunday, March 12, 2000, at his home. Born March 21, 1925, in Pittsburgh, the son of the late Max M. and Harriet (Baker) Kerr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth (Filia) Kerr; and a sister, Maxine (Kerr) Boden. Beloved Father of Anthony Pesante and wife, Linda, of Fox Chapel, James Pesante of North Versailles, Nancy Miller and husband, John, of North Versailles, and Michael Kerr and wife, Rosanne, of Houston, Texas . Also survived by three sisters , Harriet May Whitaker and husband, Jack, of Florida, twin sister, Bette Johns and husband, Bill, of Connecticut, and Gerry Ferguson and husband, Norval, of Verona. Grandfather of Nicholas J. Pesante of Pittsburgh and Leanne Elizabeth Kerr of Houston. Also survived by nieces and nephews. Clyde was a veteran of World War II, having served overseas; was a salesman for more than 20 years with Kenny Ross Chevrolet in Irwin; a member of the Wilkinsburg Elks B.P.O.E. #577; and was an avid golfer. A reception for friends will be held by the family Thursday, March 16, from 7 to 9 p.m. at MAURICE L. KNEE LTD. FUNERAL HOME, 7663 Saltsburg Road (across from S&T Bank), in Plum. PHYLLIS M. (BELLICH) KOVALCIK
Phyllis M. (Bellich) Kovalcik, 61, of Delmont, died Sunday, March 12, 2000, in IHS, Greensburg. She was born June 26, 1938, in Export, a daughter of the late Miller and Mollie (Altman) Bellich. She is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Edward C. Kovalcik; three daughters , Rebecca Urchek and husband, Peter, of Blairsville, Victoria "Vicky" Smith and husband, Cary, of North Huntingdon, and Pamela Zimmerman and husband, Nathan, of Apollo; a son, Edward Kovalcik Jr. and wife, Donna, of Greensburg; a sister, Mary Reagan and husband, Grant Jr., of Hunker; and four grandchildren, Charlie and Anastasia Urchek, Christopher Kovalcik and Josh Zimmerman. In addition, she is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Phyllis was a member of the St. John Baptist de la Salle Church of Delmont. The family received friends at the VAIA FUNERAL HOME INC. MARY GRINARML SOLTIS
Mary Grinarml Soltis, 83, of Level Green, died Monday, March 13, 2000, at her home. She was born July 7, 1916, in Reduction, Pa., a daughter of the late Anton and Mary Yakubcio Grinarml. She was a member of St. Regis Church, Trafford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Soltis, in 1994. She is survived by a son, William Soltis of Turtle Creek; three daughters , Dorothy Lakly of Monroeville, Linda Diemert of North Huntingdon, and Louise Carter of Harrison City; a sister, Helen Tomasy; and a brother, Anthony Grinarml, both of West Newton. Also survived by 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Friends received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to call Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the DAVID A. Frank H. Stratton Sr., 69, of North Huntingdon, died Monday, March 13, 2000, in the Forbes Regional Health Center, Monroeville. He was born Feb. 1, 1931, in Irwin, a son of the late David and Janet Michie Stratton. He was a retired employee of BP Motor Express, North Huntingdon, and owned and operated Stratton's Saddle Shop of North Huntingdon. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Irwin; a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving with the U.S. Air Force, and a member of VFW Post 781 of Irwin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Stratton. He is survived by his wife, Alberta E. Common Stratton; two sons , Frank H. Stratton Jr. of Irwin, and Thomas A. Stratton of North Huntingdon; two grandchildren; and a sister, Sara Jane Shriver of Virginia. EDWARD J. CHICK
Edward J. Chick, 77, of Coral Gables, Fla., formerly of Penn, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, in Florida. He was born Oct. 24, 1922, in Penn, a son of the late James and Maria Domenica Caroselli Chick. He was a member of The Church of the Little Flower, Florida; a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, having served in World War II; and a member of the American Legion in Coral Gables. He was a flight engineer with Eastern Airlines and retired as a flight instructor with Pan American Airlines. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Assini. Surviving are his wife, Dolores Eileen Murphy Chick; two daughters , Maureen Wright of Miami, Fla., and Cecelia Cicchini of Orlando, Fla.; a brother, Guy Chick and his wife, Josephine, of Penn; two sisters , Agnes Kusinsky of Harrison Park and Mrs. Fred (Sarah) Koch of Naperville, Ill.; two grandchildren, Charles and Megan Wright; and numerous nieces and nephews. CAROL H. COLLINS
Carol H. Collins, 66, of Pennsville (Bullskin Township), died Friday, March 17, 2000, in UPMC Shadyside. She was born Oct. 6, 1933, in Pittsburgh, the daughter of the late Charles J. and Louise Mong Harper. Carol had lived in Bullskin Township since 1943 and was a graduate of Connellsville High School with the Class of 1951. She had worked as a cafeteria worker for the Connellsville School District for 13 years at Junior High East and then for Montgomery Wards Signature Group for five years until she retired in 1994. Carol was a former Girl Scout leader at the Little House in Connellsville and was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Connellsville. She is survived by two sons , Scott C. Collins and his wife, Janice, of Connellsville and Jeffrey A. Collins and his wife, Tammy, of Everson; a daughter, Susan L. Gifford of Jeannette; and seven grandchildren, Jennifer S. Whipkey of Greensburg, Craig A. and Ashley N. Collins, both of Connellsville, Christopher A. Collins of Chelsea, Okla., Jason R. and Joshua D. Gifford, both of Jeannette, and Kyle J. Collins of Everson. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Albert Ray Collins, in 1995; a daughter, Linda Rae Collins Natale, in 1988; a granddaughter, Pamela Sue Collins, in 1987; and her only brother, Frank G. SILVIO P. CURCI
Silvio P. Curci, 76, of Mt. Pleasant RD5, died at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 16, 2000, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Sept. 16, 1923, in Baxter, W.Va., near Fairmont, a son of the late Michael and Teresa Donato Curci. Mr. Curci grew up in Luxor, but spent the last 52 years in the Mammoth area of Mt. Pleasant Township, Westmoreland County. Early in his life he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Carlsbad, N.M., and had also worked for the former Greensburg Glass Co. and the Walworth Co. in South Greensburg. He retired in 1984 after 32 years from the Latrobe Steel Corp. Mr. Curci enjoyed sports, gardening and family gatherings, and was a beloved husband, Father , grandfather and great-grandfather. He was also a member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant. In addition to his parents, Michael and Teresa Donato Curci, he was predeceased by two brothers , William and Aldo Curci; and two sisters , Mary Vesio and Rena Marie Curci. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Poklembo Curci; four sons , Michael Curci and his wife, Nancy, of Acme, the Rev. Richard Curci, pastor of Mt. St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, New Kensington, Silvio Curci Jr. and his wife, Betty, of Mt. Pleasant RD5 and Daniel Curci and his wife, Teresa, of Calumet; seven grandchildren, Angelo, Brian, Cindy, Brandy, Stacey, Danielle and Dominique Curci; two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Abbey Rose; and a brother, Joseph Curci and his wife, Veronica, of Derry. Eleanor E. (Hallberg) Johnson, 81, of Somers Point, N.J., formerly of Greensburg and Johnstown, died Wednesday, March 15, 2000, in the Shore Memorial Hospital, Somers Point, N.J. She was born Nov. 10, 1918, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late Charles S. and Catherine Deemer Hallberg. She formerly had been employed by the G.C. Murphy Co., Greensburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Russell R. Johnson Jr.; and a brother, Roy W. Hallberg. She is survived by her husband, Russell R. Johnson; a daughter, Patti and her husband, John Spitz, of Somers Point, N.J.; four grandchildren, Russell R. III and his wife, Patricia Johnson, David C. and his wife, Molly Johnson, John Spitz Jr. and Jodie Spitz; two great-grandsons, Russell R. Johnson IV and Charles Johnson; a sister, Nancy Silvis of Greensburg; and several nieces and nephews. HELEN LEVENS JONES
Helen Levens Jones, 85, of Pleasant Hills, on Friday, March 17, 2000. Born April 17, 1914, daughter of the late Sidney Charles and Augusta Victoria (Fabra) Levens. Wife of the late Herbert P. Jones. Beloved mother of H. Lawrence Jones of Bethlehem, Pa., and Sally Jones Schurko of Pittsburgh. Sister of Martin G. Levens of Sarasota, Fla. Grandmother of Catherine Susan Jones, Kyra J. Schurko, Evan Cosgrove Jones and Christopher James Jones. Also survived by a cousin, Gloria Pfeifer, a nephew, Stuart Craig Levens, and a niece, Alice Pagano. Mrs. Jones was a graduate of Dormont High School and Grace Martin's. She studied theater at Janet Waldorf's and appeared on the Nixon Stage. She was a volunteer from 1949 to 1970 as a storyteller at the Pleasant Hills Library, the School of the Blind and Pleasant Hills Grade Schools. She was also a volunteer at Mayview State Hospital for 13 years. She was a member of the Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church and was active in the church "circle" for 48 years and a prior altar mistress and deaconess. She was a past president of the PTA of Pleasant Hills, the Pleasant Hills Garden Club and the Dormont New Century Juniors, a past program chairman of the Pittsburgh Civic Garden Center and a Republican committeewoman of 1970. She was an avid world traveler, a skilled craftswoman and designer of needlepoint and flower arranging. Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME INC., 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pleasant Hills. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church, Old Clairton Road, Pleasant Hills. Interment Mt. Lebanon Cemetery.
