Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

ANNA T. HORVATINCIC
Anna T. Horvatincic, 89, of White Oak, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000. Born Feb. 2, 1911, the daughter of the late Anthony and Anna Vabich. She is the wife of the late Stephen Horvatincic. She was also preceded in death by her son, John Horvatincic. She is survived by five children, Steve Horvatincic, Dr. James Horvatincic, Louise Clevenger, Florence Penick and Kathy Petrovich; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the DANIEL F. BEKAVAC FUNERAL HOME, 4504 Walnut St., Versailles Borough, (412) 678-3454, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, McKeesport. Interment Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Elizabeth Township.

SALVATORE P. PERNA

Salvatore P. Perna, 70, of Latrobe, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, in the Presbyterian University Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born Dec. 1, 1929, in Gray Station (Derry Township), a son of the late John C. Perna and the late Virginia L. (Bell) Perna, who passed away on March 23, 1999. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Westinghouse in Blairsville. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict, having served with the U.S. Marine Corps, and was a member of the Bolivar American Legion. He was also a member of the Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, the Latrobe sons of Italy, the St. Joe's Club, and the Kingston Veterans and Sportsmen's Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth (Kuhn) Perna, on Nov. 1, 1998. He is survived by two nieces, Michelle Visconti and Diane Musick; his godchild, Yvonne Slifka; and his sister-in-law, Kay Musick and her husband, Gerald, all of Latrobe. Funeral home visitation will be private. Friends and relatives are welcome to attend a Funeral Mass to be celebrated Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in the Holy Family Church, Latrobe. Private interment will follow in Unity Cemetery, Unity Township. The HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe, is in charge of arrangements.

RITA N. RIDILLA

Rita N. Ridilla, 66, of Latrobe, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, in UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh. She was born April 10, 1933, in Latrobe, a daughter of the late Michael and Kathryn (Lipka) Niezelski. Rita was a member of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Latrobe, a member of Harrold's Grange Western Squares (Square Dancing Club), an avid antique collector, and also enjoyed travelling and flower gardening. Prior to her marriage, she was employed by the former Stupakoff Ceramic and Manufacturing Co. in Latrobe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Gess; and two brothers , Joseph and George Niezelski. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Andrew M. Ridilla; two daughters , Elaine R. Wingard and husband, William, of Derry, and Darlene Curnow of Clearwater, Fla.; seven grandchildren: Andy and Ben Wingard, Wendy, Kellie, Joshua, and Jacob Curnow, and Ashley Henry; two brothers , John Niezelski of Latrobe, and Andrew Niezelski and his wife, Alberta, of Loyalhanna; and a brother-in-law, Richard Gess of Latrobe. Friends will be received at the HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe, from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. A blessing service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home, followed by Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church with the Rev. Xavier Elambassery officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Latrobe. Panachida services will be held in the funeral home Thursday evening at 7:30.

PAUL W. SCHMIDT

Paul W. Schmidt, 71, of North Huntingdon, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, in Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, after a lengthy illness. He was born May 1, 1928, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Wendelin and Leola (Rectenwald) Schmidt. He was a retired tool and die maker at Fisher Body. Beloved husband of Lois E. (Hand) Schmidt. Also survived by a daughter, Patti Joe and husband, Robert Rak, of North Huntingdon; a son, Paul M. Schmidt and wife, Colleen, of North Huntingdon; two sisters , Margaret Borneman of Fayetteville, N.C., and Katherine Barrett of Bethel Park; five grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren. Friends will be received at the VINCENT V. RODGERS FUNERAL HOME, 805 Pennsylvania Ave., Irwin, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Service will be held Friday, March 3, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Carlisle Lloyd officiating. Interment Twin Valley Memorial Park.

RUSSELL L. STEFFEY

Russell L. ``Russ" Steffey, 75, of Export, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, in Allegheny University-Forbes Regional. He was born April 26, 1924, in Delmont, a son of the late William C. and Millie M. (Pierce) Steffey. He was a retired machinist, having worked for the former General Tire/Gen Corp., presently known as Omnova Solutions Inc. of Jeannette. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. Russell was a member of the Delmont Presbyterian Church and the American Legion Post 18 of Slickville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Boyd Steffey; and a sister, Viola Neudorfer. Russell is survived by his wife of 52 years, Minnie V. (Myers) Steffey; two sons , Russell K. Steffey of Mt. Pleasant, and Clifford B. Steffey and wife, Lori, of Elgin, S.C.; a daughter, Roxanne M. Goodwin and husband, Elmer Jr., of Jeannette; two brothers , Ernest Steffey of Delmont, and William Steffey and wife, Gladys, of North Huntingdon; four sisters , Ruth Martz of Export, Sylvia DeFrancis of Greensburg, Vivien Sanders and husband, Harold, of California, and Mabel McCurdy of Saxonburg. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Jessica Suba, Wendy Steffey, Jason and Brandon Goodwin, and Christine and Breanna Steffey; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive family and friends at the VAIA FUNERAL HOME INC. AT TWIN VALLEY, 463 Athena Drive, Delmont, (724) 468-1177, beginning Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Russell's funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. James R. Wagner of the Faith United Methodist Church officiating. Entombment will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park. Kevin P. Altman, supervisor, in charge of arrangements.

MARILYN J. (BYERLY) STEFIK

Marilyn J. (Byerly) Stefik, of Pleasant Hills, on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000. Wife of the late Dr. Leonard J. Stefik. Loving mother of Susan Stefik, Leonard J. Stefik Jr., and Laurie Stefik Puza. Sister of Joyce Jacob and the late Wayne Byerly. Grandmother of Patrick Foster, Ryan, Jason, and Megan Stefik, and the late Brian Foster. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME INC., 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pleasant Hills, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. DANIEL LEE YOUNKIN

Daniel Lee Younkin, 12, of Broadford Road, Connellsville (Upper Tyrone Township), went home to be with the Lord Tuesday morning, Feb. 29, 2000, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. Daniel was born in Washington , D.C., Nov. 10, 1987, a son of Cyrus D. Jr. and Leslie J. Fuoss Younkin. Daniel was a member of the Scottdale Assembly of God Church, where he was baptized. He was also affiliated with the Greenwood Heights Church of God in Connellsville. Daniel attended Southmoreland School District, was a recipient of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and was a participant in the Westmoreland County Special Olympics. Daniel is survived by his loving family, his parents, Cy and Leslie Fuoss Younkin; his brother, Joshua Donald Younkin; his maternal grandparents, Clarence and Janet Jacquillard Fuoss of Connellsville RD1; his paternal grandparents, Cyrus Donald and Wilma Saunders Younkin of Wilmington, Del.; his maternal great-grandmothers, Wilma Jacquillard of Scottdale Star Route and Alice Fuoss of Connellsville RD1; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Family and friends will be received at the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring St., Scottdale, (724) 887-5300, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 12 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Additional viewing will be held Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Scottdale Assembly of God Church, Elm and Jennings avenues. Funeral services will follow in the church at 11 a.m. with Pastor Daniel Cluck officiating. Graveside committal services and interment will take place in Scottdale Cemetery.

HELEN ANGUS

Helen Angus, 81, of Crabtree, formerly of Irvington, N.J., died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, in the Oak Hill Nursing Center, Greensburg. She was born Oct. 29, 1918, in Greenwald, a daughter of the late Andrew and Barbara Wojtanek Lapka. She was retired from Weiss & Co., New York. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Angus; a brother, Andrew Lapka; and two sisters , Nellie Kello and Jennie Prostoff. She is survived by two brothers , Fred Lapka and wife, Helen, of Sharon, and Arthur Lapka and wife, Doris; and a sister, Antoinette ``Honey" Lapka (with whom Helen resided the past few years), all of Crabtree; nieces and nephews, Joyce and Mike Cipolla, Richard and Jane Termyna, Andrew Prostoff, Bruce and Linda Lapka, Lois and Larry Lengyel, Artie Lapka Jr., Lori Lapka and Stefanie and Michael Lutzo; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and her loving dog, Clancy. EDGAR L. ARMBRUST

Edgar L. Armbrust, 73, of Strongsville, Ohio, formerly of Greensburg, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000. Beloved husband of Edith (Hite). Loving Father of Thomas. Son of the late John and Blanche (Gregg) Armbrust. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Eacott; brothers and sisters , Florence Myers of Greensburg and George of Pittsburgh, and the late James, Daniel, John Jr., Gertrude Lohr, Mary Lafferty, Dorothy Sandella, and Rose Mitchell. Loving grandfather of three and great-grandfather of three. Numerous nieces and nephews. Served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as seaman 1C at the Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla. Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JARDINE FUNERAL HOME INC., 14701 Pearl Road, Strongsville, Ohio, where a service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. Interment Strongsville Cemetery.

ERNEST DeMONTE SR.

Ernest ``Jack" DeMonte Sr., 79, of Bovard, was born into eternal life Monday, Feb. 28, 2000. He was born Feb. 20, 1921, in Bovard, a son of the late Frank and Elizabeth Falo DeMonte. Prior to retirement, he had been employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad and later by USX in Braddock. He was a member of St. Bede Catholic Church, Bovard, the Youngwood Sportsmen's Club, the Slovanic American Beneficial Sportsmen's Club, the T.C.A., a social member of the Bovard Volunteer Fire Department, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Cynthia; three brothers , David, Sam, and Meade; a sister, Antonetta; and his mother - and Father -in-law, Michael and Antonetta Delle Donna. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Angie Delle Donna DeMonte; a son, Jack DeMonte and his wife, Jane, of New Stanton; a daughter, Janet at home; loving grandchildren, Cynthia and her husband, Timothy R. Howells, of Mt. Pleasant and David Robert DeMonte of New Stanton; a great-grandson, Bradley David Howells; two brothers , Frank and wife, Betty DeMonte, of Penn and Lou and his wife, Anna Mae DeMonte, of Harrison Park; two sisters , Concetta and her husband, George Messich, of Bovard and Louise and her husband, Anthony DeMase, of New Alexandria; two sisters -in-law, Cecelia DeMonte of Bovard and Katherine DeMonte of Greensburg; and several nieces and nephews. Friends were received at the BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton at Green streets, Greensburg, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and will be received Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Thursday at 10:15 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. Bede Catholic Church, Bovard, with the Rev. Brinstan G. Takach, O.S.B., as celebrant. Entombment with full military honors accorded by the VFW Post 33 Honor Guard will follow in the Greensburg Catholic Mausoleum, Hempfield Township.

HELEN FRANCES DINKEL

Helen Frances Dinkel, 75, of Fairmont Street, North Huntingdon, died Friday evening, Feb. 25, 2000, at her home. Born June 7, 1924, in Export, a daughter of the late Jacob and Julia Belczyk Pietrusza. She was a former employee of Action Hardware in Norwin Shopping Center. She was a member of the Ascension Catholic Church, Jeannette and the Hillview Senior Citizens Bowling League, Greensburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers , Eugene, Art and Celestyn Pietrusza. She is survived by her husband, Salem F. Dinkel; two sons , Robert N. and his wife, Palma, of Irwin and Mark Allen Dinkel and his wife, Anna, of Swissvale; grandchildren; three brothers , William Pietrusza of Cleveland, Ohio, Rudy of Rossiter and Phillip of Jeannette; two sisters , Natale Hank of Jeannette and Irene Pietrusza of Youngwood; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends were received at the LAWRENCE J. McCLURE FUNERAL HOME, 112 N. Second St., Jeannette, Tuesday and will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Ascension Church. Private interment in the Grandview Cemetery, Export. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to a hospice organization or a charity of choice.

MICHELLE M. KUCHINKA HEARN

Michelle M. Kuchinka Hearn, 54, of Manor, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, in the UPMC Pittsburgh. She was born Oct. 15, 1945, in Cherbourg, France, a daughter of Jeannine Kuchinka Eble and stepdaughter of Donald Eble of Pemberton, N.J., and daughter of the late Michael Kuchinka. In addition to her Father , she was preceded in death by a brother, Francois Kuchinka. In addition to her mother , she is survived by her husband, William J. Hearn; a daughter, Sonya and her husband, Charles Schlegel, of Westmoreland City; a grandson, Cody Schlegel; four sisters , MaryFrance Duvost of Quneville, France, Christine Troger of Seattle, Wash., Charlene Lane of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Janine Kuchinka of Irwin; five brothers , Michael Kuchinka of Windber, Raymond Kuchinka of Jeannette, and Marc, Daniel and Jeanjacques Kuchinka, all of Browns Mill, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the JOSEPH F. OTT FUNERAL HOME INC., Fifth and Oak streets, Irwin, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday in the funeral home chapel at noon, with the Rev. Jonathan Hardt of Calvary Assembly of God Church, Irwin, officiating. Interment will follow in Brush Creek Cemetery, Hempfield Township.

M. JANE HEPLER

M. Jane Hepler, 84, of Mt. Pleasant (Wooddale), died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, in the Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 406 E. Washington St., Mt. Pleasant, Wednesday from 1 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Paradise United Methodist Church with the Rev. Doug Burns and the Rev. Terry Guiste co-officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenlick Cemetery. The Pleasant Valley Lions Club will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Connellsville Community Ministries or to the Paradise United Methodist Church in memory of Mrs. Hepler.
