Mark W. Macey, 37, of Greensburg RD5 (Humphreys), died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, at Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born May 2, 1963, in Jeannette, a son of Dr. Jack and Jean (Kralik) Macey of Latrobe. He worked as a service technician for Hobart Sales and Service, Greensburg. He was a graduate of Greater Latrobe Area High School, Class of 1981, and was a member of St. Florian Catholic Church, United. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Andrew M. Macey. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Connie S. (Care) Macey; two daughters , Acacia L. and Hannah E. Macey, both at home; three brothers , Andrew M. of Morrisville, Robert F. of Duluth, Minn., and Matthew J. Macey and wife, Kris, of Pittsburgh; a sister, Joanne Baum and husband, Chris, of Derry; maternal grandparents, Paul S. and Mary T. Kralik of Olympia Place, Latrobe; paternal grandmother, Mary (Salko) Macey of Bethlen Home, Ligonier; four nephews; three nieces; four aunts; four uncles; and several cousins. Friends will be received at the GAUT-BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., Pleasant Unity, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Monday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated in the St. Florian Catholic Church, United, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. John M. Foriska as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Florian Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant Township. A parish wake service will be held Sunday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.

John A. Mannella, 72, of Southwest Greensburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born Feb. 10, 1928, in Bovard, a son of the late Joseph and Pauline Neiter Mannella. He was retired from the Hempfield Area School District and presently employed by the Tribune-Review Publishing Co., Greensburg. John was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of Hose Co. #6 Firemen's Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dora M. Mannella, on April 6, 1999; and by a sister, Josephine Penzera. He is survived by two sons , Kevin Mannella of Malden, Mass., and Lorin Mannella of San Diego, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Nancy A. and her husband, Michael Krautz Jr., of New Stanton and Ella E. Robertson of Greensburg; a brother, Frank and his wife, Mary Mannella, of Bovard; two sisters , Mrs. Mary Findle of Greensburg and Mrs. Cecelia DeMonte of Bovard; and several nieces and nephews. Friends received at the BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton at Green streets, Greensburg, Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Prayers in the funeral home Thursday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg. Mary H. Muselin, of the North Hills, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000. She was the beloved wife of the late Peter A. Muselin and the mother of Veronica Zaluski of Hopewell, Helen Liberatore of Hopewell and Patricia Marie Sutton of Wexford. She is also survived by five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Mary Carolyn "Carol" Pace, 60, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, in UPMC Passavant, MCcandless. Born April 22, 1940, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Matthew and Elizabeth Everhart Krummert. Mrs. Pace was a displayer for Home Interiors and Gifts. Survivors include her husband, Ronald C. Pace; two sons , James Pace and his wife, Cindy, of Squirrel Hill and Ronald Cosmo Pace of Ross; three daughters , Kim Newlin and her husband, Gary, of Chicago, Renee Heider and her husband, Kerry, of Murrysville and Billie Jo Pace of Ross; a sister, Betty Edwards; a brother, Matthew Krummert; 12 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters , Charlotte Gelormini and Marlene Voci. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday in T.B. John P. Place
Pleasant Hills
John P. Place, age 78, died September 5, 2000 at his home of complications from lung cancer. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ruth Eyman Place; his sons , Mark and wife, Sue, of Pleasant hills and Rick of White hall. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Place Thomas and husband, Ray; brother, Tom and wife, Jean; brother, Osmond and wife, Julia. He is survived by sisters -in-law, Dot, widow of brother, Eric, and Dorothy, widow of brother, Francis, who preceded in him in death. Grandsons, Christopher and James Williams also survive him. A native of Gourock, Scotland, John served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a B17 pilot based out of England. He flew a total of 35 missions in the European Theater of Operations and was awarded multiple Air Medals. After military service, he graduated in 1947 from Grove City College with a degree in mechanical engineering. An accomplished musician, he was a member of the Epsilon Pi Fraternity. In 1952 he founded John P. Place, Inc., a manufacturers representative firm specializing in the steel industry, and the water and wastewater industry. A Life Member of American Water Works Association, John was a longtime member of Water Environment federation, the Engineers Society of WPA and the Association of American Iron & Steel Engineers. A member of Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, John served as both a Deacon and an Elder. He was also a member of South Hills Country Club. A burial service will be held Friday, September 8, at 9:30 a.m. at the Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church. A private interment service for the family will follow the funeral service. A. Fay Sarver, 66, of Greensburg RD7, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, at her residence. She was born Dec. 6, 1933, in Scottdale, a daughter of the late Allen G. Shuey Sr. and Sara E. Miller Shuey. She was a registered nurse formerly working for Dr. Lawrence Blackburn, and Westmoreland and Latrobe hospitals; and was a graduate of the Westmoreland Hospital School of Nursing. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Greensburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Wesley Clair Sarver; a sister, Sally D. Schnupp; and a brother, Allen G. Shuey Jr. Surviving are her loving husband, David W. Sarver Jr.; children, David W. Sarver IV and his wife, Sandy, of Greensburg, and Rebecca S. Manning and her husband, Paul, of Greensburg; brothers , Paul Shuey and wife, Ginger, of Utah, and Ira C. Shuey and wife, Kathy, of Jeannette; sisters , Vera M. Shuey of Greensburg, Beverly A. Sarver and her husband, Ronald, of Ligonier and Lorraine J. Shuey of Saltsburg; and three grandchildren, Audra Claire Patterson, David W. Sarver V and Daniel Brooks Sarver. Frances Rita Schwirian, 69, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, in St. Francis Medical Center, Lawrenceville. Born Aug. 9, 1931, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Isabella Salerno Pignatelli. Mrs. Schwirian was a homemaker. She enjoyed entertaining, letter writing, gardening and theater. She attended St. Boniface Parochial School, Perry High School and the Community College of Allegheny County North Campus. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, Millvale. Survivors include her husband, George W. Schwirian; a son, Michael Schwirian of Shaler; a daughter, Carol Jean Clark of Millvale; a sister, Anne Vonderau of Pittsburgh; and two granddaughters, Samantha Clark and Heather Clark. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters , Josephine Orban and Annette Husoveck. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in NEELY FUNERAL HOME, 2208 Mt. Royal Blvd., Shaler, where services will be 11 a.m. Friday. Mary Oravetz Shander, 93, formerly of Southwest (Hecla) and Greensburg, went to her eternal rest Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, at the HCR ManorCare in McMurray. Mary was born Aug. 16, 1907, in Mt. Pleasant Township, the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Kesock Oravetz. She was a member of the St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Greensburg and also a member of the St. Nicholas Rosary Society and St. Mary's of Trauger Rosary Society. Her memories will be cherished by her family; a brother, Matthew Oravetz of Norfolk, Va.; two nephews, Bob Oravetz of McMurray, with whom she made her home for the past 10 years, and Michael Oravetz of Mt. Pleasant; and two nieces, Mary Ellen Oravetz of Norfolk, Va., and Anna Mary Brackenridge of Baton Rouge, La. She is also survived by seven great-nieces and -nephews and four great-great-nieces and -nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Shander, on June 7, 1975; and two brothers , Steve Oravetz, on Dec. 15, 1972, and Demetrius Oravetz, on March 3, 1989. Friends will be received in the EUGENE G. SALOOM FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Mt. Kathy A. (Prisani) Smith, 52, of Greensburg, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born April 26, 1948, in Greensburg, a daughter of Mary Zyvith Prisani of Bovard and the late Santy Prisani, who died in 1963. She had been employed by St. Anne Home, Greensburg, for 18 years. In addition to her Father , she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Robert John Soles; and her mother - and Father -in-law, Albert E. "Red" and Barbara G. Smith. In addition to her mother , she is survived by her husband, John H. Smith; two sisters , Denise Soles of Greensburg and Bernadette Mowen of Bovard; several nieces and nephews; and her companion dog, Brandie. Cornelia L. Kalinowski Snyder, 83, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2000, in UPMC, Pittsburgh. Born Dec. 9, 1916, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Kalinowski. Mrs. Snyder was a domestic engineer. She was a member of Allison Park Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses and was very active with ministry work. She was a member of three bowling leagues, enjoyed gardening and cannning and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Sauers of West Deer; a sister, Camille Keller of Texas ; three grandchildren, Wendy Watts, Randal Sauers and Jeffrey Sauers; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Snyder; three brothers ; and a sister. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in HERBERT R.
