Samuel R. Hughes, 76, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2000, in Suburban General Hospital, Bellevue. Born Jan. 14, 1924 in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Samuel and Rhoda Muse Hughes. Mr. Hughes was a distribution center manager at Bell Atlantic for 38 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Ross. He also belonged to Lodge 657 Free and Accepted Masons in Avalon and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2754 in West View. Survivors include his wife, Helen M. Migota Hughes; two daughters , Linda Heil of Mars and Holly Hulse of Shanghai, China; three sons , Richard Hughes of Mars, Stanley Hughes of Cabot and David Hughes of Beaver; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the H.P. BRANDT FUNERAL HOME, 1032 Perry Highway, Ross. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the funeral home, with the Rev. David Littke of Christ Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Allegheny County Memorial Park, McCandless. Bernice Jasinski, 92, of Braddock Hills, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, in UPMC/Braddock. Born Jan. 30, 1908 in Newark, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Walter and Anastasia Jermak Jasinski. She was a retired merchandiser for Murphy Company. She is survived by several nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in RONALD V. Thomas F. Kattera
Mt. Pleasant
Thomas F. Kattera, 75, of Mt. Pleasant, went to his eternal rest Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, at his residence. He was born July 16, 1925, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late James and Anna Slater Kattera. Thomas was a member of the Visitation Roman Catholic Church, and was a student at the former Ramsay High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II in the European Theatre. Prior to retirement, he was employed by Fisher Body in Dravosburg. He was a member of the U.A.W.A. and VFW Post 3368. Tom's memories will be cherished by his two sons , Kenneth M. Kattera and wife, Mitzi, of New Alexandria and Michael A. Kattera and wife, Lisa, of Greensburg; and his grandson, Mark Kattera. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Kuczkowski Kattera on Aug. 11, 1999; four brothers , Robert, Charles, David and Ernest Kattera; and three sisters , Josephine Hauger, Martha Kattera and Jessie. Friends received in the EUGENE G. SALOOM FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Mt. Pleasant, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Thursday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in the Visitation R.C. Church with the Rev. Father Anthony W. Ditto as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with military rites accorded by the members of the VFW and the American Legion.
Milan Mamula

Milan Mamula, 81, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2000, in his home. Born Jan. 29, 1919 in the South Side, he was the son of the late Steve and Anna Mamula. Mr. Mamula was a retired forklift operator for Glenshaw Glass. He was a World War II Army veteran, who served in the Pacific Theater. Survivors include his wife, Anna Shamella Mamula; one son, Milan Mamula Jr. of West Deer; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters , Mary Mervosh, Dorothy Mamula and Nellie Prokok; and two brothers , Rudy Mamula and Nick Mamula. Private visitation and funeral services are Wednesday in the HERBERT R. KING JR. FUNERAL HOME, Route 8 at 2841 Woodland Circle, Hampton. The Rev. Alexander Poskyvajlo of St. Michael's Church, West View, will officiate. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Gardens, Indiana Township.

John A. Mannella, 72, of Southwest Greensburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born Feb. 10, 1928, in Bovard, a son of the late Joseph and Pauline Neiter Mannella. He was retired from the Hempfield Area School District and presently employed by the Tribune-Review Publishing Co., Greensburg. John was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of Hose Co. #6 Firemen's Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dora M. Mannella, on April 6, 1999; and by a sister, Josephine Penzera. He is survived by two sons , Kevin Mannella of Malden, Mass., and Lorin Mannella of San Diego, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Nancy A. and her husband, Michael Krautz Jr., of New Stanton and Ella E. Robertson of Greensburg; a brother, Frank and his wife, Mary Mannella, of Bovard; two sisters , Mrs. Mary Findle of Greensburg and Mrs. Cecelia DeMonte of Bovard; and several nieces and nephews. Patricia A. Massie, 67, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000 in UPMC Shadyside, Pittsburgh. Born Feb. 11, 1933 in O'Hara, she was the daughter of Martha J. Miller Smith of Cranberry and the late Roy E. Smith. Mrs. Massie was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, Hampton. Survivors include her husband, George M. Massie Sr.; a daughter, Patricia A. Brandstetter, and husband, Larry, of Monroeville; two sons , George M. Massie, Jr., and wife, Janet, of Richland and Kenneth J. Massie, and wife, Cheryl, of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Mary Lou Blum of Glenshaw; a brother, Roy Smith of Cranberry; and four grandchildren. Muselin and the mother of Veronica Zaluski of Hopewell, Helen Liberatore of Hopewell and Patricia Marie Sutton of Wexford. She is also survived by five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Alexis Church, McCandless. Survivors include her husband, David C. Rogers Sr.; two sons , David C. Rogers Jr. and his wife, Sally, of Harmony and Michael P. Rogers of McCandless; two daughters , Karen A. Morgan and her husband, Ralph, of Bradford Woods and Christine Florijan and her husband, Gary, of McCandless; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Edward V. Rozantz, 76, of Ruffsdale RD1, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. Born Aug. 12, 1924, in South Huntingdon Township, he was a son of the late John and Mary Dimits Rozantz. Prior to retirement, he was employed as an electrician by the Westmoreland Regional Hospital. He was a member of the Seven Dolors Roman Catholic Church, Yukon. He was also a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Bishop O'Connor Council #921 of Connellsville; and the Knights of Columbus Council #3334 of Mt. Pleasant. He was also a member of the Hempfield Hunt Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Emma Harper; and two brothers , William and Emil Rozantz. Surviving are his wife, Ann Marie "Amy" Stana Rozantz; two daughters , Marie Yvonne LeRoy of Indianapolis, Ind., and Annaleta Cunningham and her husband, Mark, of Greensburg; three brothers , John Rozantz of Hempfield Township, Adolph Rozantz of Ruffsdale RD1 and Walter Rozantz of Erie; and a sister, Mary Hravatic of Ruffsdale RD1. Gwen (Henry) Ruddock, 81, of Clymer, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2000, in the Indiana Hospital. She was born July 30, 1919, in Cookport, a daughter of the late Frank and Edna (Crawford) Henry. Mrs. Ruddock was a member of the Clymer Christian Church. Before retiring, she was employed for many years as a cafeteria worker at Indiana University of Pennsylvania . She loved her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren and all youth. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David A. Ruddock, in May 1965; and a brother, Ben. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Nanette "Jane" Kolick and husband, Larry, of New Stanton; twin sons , Ronald Ruddock and Donald and wife, Judy, all of Clymer; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two sisters , Mrs. Gladys Turner of Belleview, Fla., and Mrs. Joye Parks of Enid, Okla. Mary B. (Kutcher) Schutte, 78, of Bellevue, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2000. She was the beloved wife for 53 years of Robert V. Schutte Sr.; loving mother of Robert V. Schutte Jr., Patricia Schutte, Richard S. Schutte and James S. Schutte; mother -in-law of Jean Schutte; sister of Anne Jackson, Margaret Zapf, Dorothy Diel, Janet McGurgan, John Kutcher and George Kutcher. She is also survived by three granddaughters, Holly, Jaime and Laine. She was preceded in death by two sons , Joseph and Christopher Schutte; and three brothers , Frank, Joseph and Anthony Kutcher.
