Daryl Paul Earnest
Hagerstown, Md.

Daryl Paul Earnest, 22, of Hagerstown, Md., died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born Nov. 24, 1977, in Morgantown, W.Va., he was a son of Larry P. and Kathleen Kircher Earnest of Hagerstown. He was a 1996 graduate of South Hagerstown High School, and a member of the Bethel Assembly of God, Hagerstown. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Brennan Earnest at home; maternal grandparents, Leroy H. and Julia W. Kircher of Saegertown, Pa.; paternal grandparents, D. Paul and Verna Earnest of Latrobe; and several cousins, aunts and uncles. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the MINNICH FUNERAL HOME, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, Md., 21740, (301) 739-6800. Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Bethel Assembly of God, 515 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Wesley Johnson officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the Stratia Youth Group, Bethel Assembly of God, 515 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Donald R. Fenton
Latrobe

Donald R. Fenton, 69, of Latrobe, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Feb. 15, 1931, in Latrobe, a son of the late Matthew Russell and Helen M. (Reed) Fenton. Donald was a 1949 graduate of Latrobe High School and then graduated from Monmouth College, Monmouth, Ill. Prior to retirement, he was the owner and operator of the former Fenton Electric Company and was also employed by the Latrobe Municipal Authority. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Latrobe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, M. Robert Fenton; and a sister, Marcia Cassol. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Patricia (DeLuca) Fenton; five children, D. Gregory Fenton and wife, Kalley, of Latrobe, Dianne M. Adam and husband, Gary, of Alpharetta, Ga., Maj. Matthew Russell Fenton II, U.S.A.F., and wife, Margaret, of Yorktown, Va., Neal Reed Fenton and wife, Sandra, of Latrobe and W. Keith Fenton and wife, Lisa, of Indianapolis, Ind.; 11 grandchildren, Corey, Emily, Donald James, Ryan, Erin, Jack, and Donald Reed Fenton II, and Brian, Colleen, Kevin, and Megan Adam; a brother, James R. Fenton and wife, Gloria, of Latrobe; a sister, Kathleen Wittenmaier of Latrobe; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends were received Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the United Presbyterian Church, Latrobe, with the Rev. Donald W. Graff officiating. PLEASE GO DIRECTLY TO THE CHURCH. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Derry. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bruno Ferrari Cancer Center at Latrobe Area Hospital, West Second Avenue, Latrobe, PA 15650. The St. John Rosary Altar Christian Mothers will recite the rosary Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

Kathryn E. Gairdo
North Side

Kathryn E. Gairdo, 89, died Sept. 4, 2000, at Suburban General Hospital, Bellevue. Born March 18, 1911, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Agnes Mae Morse Marks. Mrs. Gairdo was a homemaker. Survivors include two sons , John R. Hood of Delhi, N.Y. and Harold Hood, Jr. of Ross; a stepdaughter, Arlene Donnelly; and beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John N. Gairdo; and two sisters , Ruth Broman and Agnes Evans. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Wednesday in the SCHELLHAAS FUNERAL HOME, 388 Center Ave, West View. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home, with the Rev. Steve Niermann of St. Thomas Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow in Highwood Cemetery, North Side.

Helen Goulding
Mt. Pleasant

Helen Goulding, 76, of Sand Hill Road, Mt. Pleasant, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, in Mt. Pleasant. She was born Sept. 10, 1923, in Mammoth, a daughter of the late Lewis and Viola O'Neil Heide. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Greensburg, and the Mt. Pleasant Senior Citizens. Helen had driven a school bus van for many years, and retired from Mt. Pleasant Senior Citizens Center on March 31, 1999. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Goulding, in 1979; and an infant daughter. Survivors include four sons , William G. of Tampa, Fla., Richard J. and wife, Judy, of Youngstown, Ohio, Ronald A. and wife, Marie, of Mt. Pleasant RD and Donald D. of Mt. Pleasant RD; a brother, Vernon Heide of Stahlstown; five grandsons, Billy, Richie, Ronnie, Donnie and Dustin; and six great-grandchildren. Friends were received at the JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, Norvelt, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Christ Episcopal Church, Greensburg, with the Rev. Larry Knotts officiating. Interment Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township. Memorial contributions, if you so desire, may be made to one's choice. Sandra L. Hoffer, funeral director.

Thomas F. Kattera
Mt. Pleasant

Thomas F. Kattera, 75, of Mt. Pleasant, went to his eternal rest Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, at his residence. He was born July 16, 1925, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late James and Anna Slater Kattera. Thomas was a member of the Visitation Roman Catholic Church, and was a student at the former Ramsay High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II in the European Theatre. Prior to retirement, he was employed by Fisher Body in Dravosburg. He was a member of the U.A.W.A. and VFW Post 3368. Tom's memories will be cherished by his two sons , Kenneth M. Kattera and wife, Mitzi, of New Alexandria and Michael A. Kattera and wife, Lisa, of Greensburg; and his grandson, Mark Kattera. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Kuczkowski Kattera on Aug. 11, 1999; four brothers , Robert, Charles, David and Ernest Kattera; and three sisters , Josephine Hauger, Martha Kattera and Jessie. Friends will be received in the EUGENE G. SALOOM FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Mt. Pleasant, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Thursday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in the Visitation R.C. Church with the Rev. Father Anthony W. Ditto as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with military rites accorded by the members of the VFW and the American Legion.

Ray Clark Lauffer
North Huntingdon

Ray Clark Lauffer, 80, of North Huntingdon, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at the Baldock Health Care Centre, North Huntingdon. He was born June 12, 1920, in Manor, a son of the late Charles P. and Cornelia E. Yinger Lauffer. He was a graduate of the Norwin High School Class of 1938. He was a retired employee of Westinghouse Electric, Trafford, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of the Norwin Church of the Nazarene, and had served as financial secretary of the Manor V.F.D. since 1955. He was also a member of the Irwin Male Chorus since 1948 and a member of Shidle Lodge 601 F&AM, Irwin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters , Eleanor Jones and Sara Barras. He is survived by his wife, Margaret M. "Peggy" (Neidigh) Lauffer; three children, Ray M. Lauffer of Fort Myers, Fla., Russell T. Lauffer of Greenville and Laura M. Jackel of Ruffsdale; seven grandchildren; four sisters , Ruth Moffa of Harrison City, Mary Kay Lauffer, Lois Jones and Vivian Horsmon, all of Manor; two brothers , Martin Lauffer of Manor and James Lauffer of New Jersey; also nieces and nephews. Friends received in the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Norwin Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. David Troxler officiating. Interment will follow in Irwin Union Cemetery. Masonic services will be at 8 p.m. Monday and Manor V.F.D. service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, both in the funeral home.

Lucille S. Mahoney, 75, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000 at The Cedars Monroeville. She was a realtor for many years. She is survived by her husband John P.; mother of Larry Fairtrace Sr. of North Huntingdon, Randy Fairtrace of Butler, Jeffrey Fairtrace of North Huntingdon, and the late Patricia Fairtrace; two grandchildren; sister of Elizabeth Fairtrace, and William Allen. Friends received 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in GENE H. CORL INC. FUNERAL CENTER OF MONROEVILLE, 4335 Northern Pike, where services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Eric D. Ash Sr. officiating. Interment in Plum Creek Cemetery, Plum Boro.

Bernadine G. Martin
Wendel

Bernadine G. Martin, 61, of Wendel, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, in Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. She was born Jan. 21, 1939, in Johnstown, a daughter of the late Bernard and Ruth (Smouse) Schnurr. Bernadine was a homemaker and very devoted mother . She will be sadly missed by her family and all of her friends in her hometown of Wendel, whom she cared so much about. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Martin, in 1990. Bernadine is survived by her son, Mr. John T. Martin and his wife, Janet, of Greensburg; a daughter, Mrs. Mark (Karen) Sidun of Westmoreland City; two brothers , Mr. Ronald Schnurr and his wife, Betty, of Detroit, Mich., and Mr. Charles Schnurr and his wife, Rita, of Cleveland, Ohio; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends were received at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Herminie, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Liturgy will be held in the funeral home Wednesday at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in the Penn-Lincoln Memorial Park, North Huntingdon.

Hubert J. Merlin
White Oak

Hubert J. Merlin, of White Oak, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2000, at his home. He was born Aug. 5, 1913, in Latrobe, a son of the late Philip and Jenny Merlin. He was a roller for Latrobe Steel and was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy. He was a charter member of the 6th Ward Club and very involved with Little League Baseball, serving as president of McKeesport Little League. He also served on the McKeesport Recreation Board. He is survived by his wife, Rose (Sweeney); daughters , Brenda Grebur of White Oak, Elaine Resnick and Susan Stockton, both of Latrobe; sons , Scott Merlin of White Oak, Jeff Merlin of North Huntingdon, Terry Merlin of St. Petersburg, Fla., Tim Merlin of Boardman, Ohio, and Hubert Merlin of Latrobe; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Beatrice Powers of Pittsburgh; and nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by a son, Lance Corporal Thomas James Sweeney, who died in Vietnam. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the WILLIG FUNERAL HOME, 220 Ninth Ave., McKeesport, where a blessing service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday. Interment in Richland Cemetery.

Charles S. Naccarato
O'Hara

Charles S. Naccarato, 84, died Sept. 3, 2000, in UPMC Passavant, McCandless. Born Sept. 20, 1915, in Sharpsburg, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Maria Tarasi Naccarato. Mr. Naccarato was a retired O'Hara Township employee, an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of Madonna of Jerusalem Catholic Church, Sharpsburg. Survivors include one daughter, Concetta Naccarato; one brother, Frank Naccarato; three sisters , Ralphine Di Benedetto, Esther Hoskowitz and Anna Marie Uminski; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Naccarato; a son, Joseph M. Naccarato; a brother, Billy Naccarato; and two sisters , Rose Celender and Margaret Bytnar. Friends will be received from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the WORRELL FUNERAL HOME, corner of Main and Ninth Streets, Sharpsburg. Christian burial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Madonna of Jerusalem Church, with the Rev. Andrew C. Fischer as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Marys Cemetery, O'Hara.
