Enid B. Sanders
of Whitehall

Enid B. Sanders, 83, of Whitehall, died May 5, 2009.

A member of Baldwin Community United Methodist Church, she served as a church visitor and board of trustees, was president of women's society and volunteered at St. Clair Hospital.

Mrs. Sanders belonged to the Silver ChaliceChapter 530 Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the South Hills Country Club where she served as president of Women's Golf Association and secretary of the Bowling League, which was her favorite past time.

She was the wife of the late Harry Sanders for 63 years; mother of Karen; sister of Richard (Rosetta) Bower; aunt of John (Sue), James (Amy) and Dan (Kathy) Bower; sister-in-law of Jean Bower and her family of Columbus, Ohio.

Arrangements made by John F. Slater Funeral Home Inc., Brentwood.

Edna Mae Knorr
Great-grandmother

Edna Mae (Dower) Knorr, 90, of Whitehall, formerly of Mt. Washington, died May 6, 2009.

She was the wife of the late Edward J.;mother of Betsy (Wayne) Takacs of Ebensburg, Pa., Lynn (Dave) Vietmeier, Edward Jr. (Linda), John (Debbie), James (Cindee), Mary Dee (Regis) Walsh and Maureen (Michael) Bidaman; sister of Thelma (Frank) Riley of Boston; sister-in-law of Mary Dower and Rita Knorr; mum mum of Jimmy, Nancy, Kathy, Mary Beth, Kerry, Kelly, David, Sean, Eddie, III, Danny, Amy, Missy, Patrick, Katie, John, Kristy, Shannon and Brynn.She also is survived by 29 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were handled by John F. Slater Funeral Home Inc., Brentwood.

Mary Yosi
Crossing guard

Mary A. (Marizzaldi) Yosi, 86, of Whitehall, and current resident of Atria Senior Living, died May 7, 2009.

Mrs. Yosi was a former school crossing guard for Whitehall and an avid bingo player and large-print word search enthusiast.

She was the wife of the late Primo J. Yosi; mother of Marlene A. (the late Bill) Tuscan; Ronald J. (Nancy) (the late Jann) Yosi and the late Marianne (Eric) Kuzo; grandmother of Aaron (Kim) Tuscan, Nicole (Tom) Parr, Ronald P., Joanne (Casey) Farrell, Richard A. (Kate), Kristen (Mike) Bonacci and Joseph P. Gubash; great-grandmother of Emily, Sabrina, Elise, Gabriel and Ava; sister of Ida (Bob) Jordan, Arthur (Joan) Marizzaldi and the late Philip, Jack, Vince and Angelo Marizzaldi; sister-in-law of Dorothy Marizzaldi. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Frank DeFazio
Former police chief

Frank A. DeFazio, 75, of West Mifflin, died on May 7, 2009.

A former police chief of West Mifflin Borough, he was a member of the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association, founding member of West Mifflin EMS, the Mon Valley Leathernecks, Korean War Veterans, Bethel Masonic Hall 761, the USS Wisconsin Association, the Harley Owners Group, Chapter P, the Blue Knights, Chapter 7, and a former member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association.

He served for eight years in the U.S. Marine Corps.He was a member of Holy Angels Parish in Hays, for 52 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony DeFazio and Rose Nucci.

He was the husband of Marlene (Scott); father of Denise (Keith) Schultz of Cranberry Township, Linda (Star) Steuernagle of Brentwood and Frank (Kathy) DeFazio Jr. of West Mifflin; grandfather of Christopher Schultz, Jamie Campbell, Matthew Flister and Amy Wills; great-grandfather of Emma Wills, Aiden Schultz and Ethan Campbell, Stephen and Archie Pastor, Christopher and Becky Wills; brother of John (Maria) DeFazio of McKeesport and Robert (Kathy) DeFazio.He also is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements made hadled by John F. Slater Funeral Home Inc., Brentwood.

Stephen Sylvester
lived in south Baldwin

Stephen L. "Fibbie" Sylvester, 85, of South Baldwin, died May 5, 2009.

He was the husband of Mary Sylvester; father of Nancy Nestor (Jerry Osgood) of Las Vegas, Maria Sylvester of Baldwin and Stephen (Maria) Sylvester of Chicago; brother of Mary (Joseph) Lewandowski and Salvatore Silvester.He also is survived by nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Philomena Silvestri; and siblings, Lucy Silvestri, Carmen Silvestri and Minnie Rogers.

Friends were received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home Inc., Brentwood.A Mass of Christian burialwas celebrated at Nativity Catholic Church in Broughton).

Betty Gruber
Whitehall resident

Betty (Westerlund) Gruber, 82, of Whitehall, died May 8, 2009.

Mrs. Gruber belonged to Baldwin Community United Methodist Church and was an avid member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She was the wife of the late Paul R. Gruber.She is survived by her three children, Kristi Gruber, Jeff Gruber and Karen Trueblood; four grandchildren, Jonathon, Matthew, Heather and Brian.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Dorothy Crosby, C.W. Westerlund, Helen Potter and Vivian Paulot.

Henry Wetzel
worked at Westinghouse

Henry Orrin "Peck" Wetzel, 95, of the South Hills area, formerly of Turtle Creek, died May 4, 2009.

He was born May 18, 1913, in Burnside. Mr. Wetzel worked for Westinghouse Electric for 37 years before retiring at the age of 65.

Surviving are his wife of 71 years, Barbara (Beatty) Wetzel; three children, Marjorie Campbell and her husband, Patrick, of South Park, James Wetzel and his wife, Cynthia, of Butler and Debra Anglin and her husband, Albert, of Follansbee, W.Va.; seven grandchildren, Kristen Peckich, Kelly Kaeser, Curtis Wetzel, Andrea Offchiss, Jeffrey Wetzel, Dana Johnson and Joshua Anglin; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to Electric Heights Methodist Church, 601 James St., Turtle Creek, PA 15145.

Antoinette McNamara
St. Elizabeth Seniors member

Antoinette "Toni" M. (Daniele) McNamara, 72, of Pleasant Hills, formerly of Oakland, died May 3, 2009.

She was born Sept. 13, 1936, in Pittsburgh to the late Angelo and Mafalda (D'Amore) Daniele.

She was a member or St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish, Pleasant Hills, and an active member of St. Elizabeth Seniors.

Mrs. McNamara is survived by her husband of almost 50 years, John "Jack" McNamara; her children, Johnette Mary (Mike) Antone of West Friendship, Md., Elaine Gerette (Bill) Stevenson of Mansfield, Ohio, and Daniel John (Heather) McNamara of Wilmington, N.C.; her grandchildren, which included three sets of twins, Sara and Rebecca Stevenson, Gabriel and Gianna Antone and Sean and Erin Antone, and also Cameron, Samuel and Grace McNamara.She also is survived by her brother-in-law, Tom Quealy and many aunts, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Joann Wimer and Rosalie Quealy.
