H. Alfred McAdams, 88, of Saxonburg, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, in Saxony Health Center, Saxonburg. Born June 9, 1912, in Wilkinsburg, he was the son of the late Harry T. and Minnie McAdams. Mr. McAdams was a retired foreman from Anvil Products. He was a member and an elder of the East Union Presbyterian Church and was an active bowler. He loved to read and do woodworking. Survivors include his wife, Lucille McAdams; four sons , Ellis P. McAdams of West Deer, Ronald K. McAdams of Canton, Ohio, Larry A. McAdams of West Deer, and Dale H. McAdams of Frazier; one daughter, Norene E. Fortuna of Fawn; two sisters , Dorothy McCall of Grove City and Marion Aupke of Penn Hills; and 11 grandchildren and six great-children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Grace McAdams; and one brother, James McAdams. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the BOCK FUNERAL HOME, 1500 Mt. Royal Blvd., Shaler, where services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday. The Rev. Richard L. Young will officiate the service in the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Royal Cemetery, Shaler. Bernadine G. Martin, 61, of Wendel, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, in Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. She was born Jan. 21, 1939, in Johnstown, a daughter of the late Bernard and Ruth (Smouse) Schnurr. Bernadine was a homemaker and very devoted mother . She will be sadly missed by her family and all of her friends in her hometown of Wendel, whom she cared so much about. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Martin, in 1990. Bernadine is survived by her son, Mr. John T. Martin and his wife, Janet, of Greensburg; a daughter, Mrs. Mark (Karen) Sidun of Westmoreland City; two brothers , Mr. Ronald Schnurr and his wife, Betty, of Detroit, Mich., and Mr. Charles Schnurr and his wife, Rita, of Cleveland, Ohio; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Herminie, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Liturgy will be held in the funeral home Wednesday at a time to be announced. Interment will follow in the Penn-Lincoln Memorial Park, North Huntingdon.

Ralph A. Messmer, 73, of Canonsburg, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, in Canonsburg Hospital. He was born Aug. 8, 1927, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Charles J. and Caroline Brahler Messmer. He was a member of St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, Canonsburg. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and was a fabricator at McGraw-Edison and Cooper Industries, Canonsburg, for 46 years. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. On June 8, 1946, he married Mary Mikulich, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters , Anna "Susie" Hall of Canonsburg and Carolyn Dolinar of Peters Township; four sons , Ralph A. Messmer Jr. of Canonsburg, William J. Messmer of Washington , Pa., Daniel P. Messmer of Latrobe and Michael C. Messmer of Mechanicsburg; a brother, Raymond Messmer of Gibsonia; a sister, Margaret Soller of Pittsburgh; 15 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the SALANDRA FUNERAL SERVICE, 304 W. Pike St., Canonsburg, Monday from 2 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at noon in St. Patrick Worship Site, St. Patrick's Church, Canonsburg. Mary Lou Noonan, 69, of Greensburg RD8, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, at her home. She was born March 12, 1931, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late John W. and Mary Benford Bytheway. She was a member of the Charter Oak United Methodist Church of Greensburg. Mary Lou had worked for many years at Kennametal Inc. in Latrobe. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Richard B. Bytheway; and a nephew, John Scott Bytheway. She is survived by her loving family, her husband, Donald E. Noonan; her daughter, Cathleen J. Noonan of Greensburg; and her two sons , Patrick T. Noonan and his wife, Jennifer, of Greensburg and Sean E. Noonan and his wife, Colleen, of Baltimore, Md. Friends will be received at the BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, 505 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Charter Oak United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. David A. Eversdyke officiating. Constance Hillman Oliver O'Neil, age 83, a long time resident of Sewickley, died on Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000. Daughter of the late James F. and Marguerite (Wright) Hillman. Wife of George P. O'Neil and the late John C. Oliver, Jr. mother of John C. Oliver III, Marguerite O. Standish, James H. Oliver, and Sally O. McVeigh. Sister of Marguerite H. Purnell, Audrey H. Hilliard, and Sally H. Childs. Also 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Oliver O'Neil was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Allegheny Country Club, Rolling Rock Club, Edgeworth Club and the Garden Club of Allegheny County. She was a graduate of the Masters School, Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., and continued Art History in Florence, Italy. Visitation will be Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Constance Hillman Oliver O'Neil's home on Spanish Track Road, Sewickley. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 4 p.m. in St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 405 Frederick Ave., Sewickley. Burial will be private. Emily McRae Orr, 95, of Southwest Greensburg, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, in I.H.S. of Greater Pittsburgh, Greensburg. She was born Jan. 13, 1905, in Glasgow, Scotland, the daughter of the late James and Emily McRae. She was a retired executive secretary for the former Walworth Valve Co. in South Greensburg. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church and the Order of Eastern Star Chapter #281 and the Westmoreland Shrine #18 of Greensburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Orr in 1991. Surviving are her daughter, Margaret Chishko and husband, William, of Southwest Greensburg; two granddaughters, Susanna Valerio and husband, Carl, of Hannastown and Carolyn Frye and husband, Todd, of Latrobe; a nephew, James McRae of Latrobe; and six nieces, Marion Sherrow of Greensburg, Emily Dahlmann of Greensburg, Isabelle Taylor of Greensburg, Margaret Patton of McKeesport, Betty Moyer of Arizona and Eleanor McRae of Pittsburgh. She was born Nov. 25, 1920 in Mars, a daughter of Harry Cupp and Margaret Lurting Cupp. She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Dr. Elmer "Jack" Parks; two daughters , Mary Kathleen Young of Pickerington, Ohio and Eleanor Chain of Canton, Ohio; a son, Richard Lewis Parks of Mercer, Pa.; a sister, Eleanor Robb of Beaver Falls, Pa.; and five grandchildren. Member of North Buffalo Presbyterian Church. Twice married, first to the late William Berkley and later to the late William Shriver. Surviving are two sisters , Jessie Blackburn and Fern Obot, both of Greensburg; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a daughter, Emma Marie Berkley; four sisters ; and five brothers .
