Joseph F. Griffin, beloved husband of 49 years to Mary (nee Sexton); loving father of M. Anne (Mike) O’Donnell, the late Patrick (Lynn) Griffin, Kathy (Bryan) Schmitt and Joe P. (Sharon) Griffin; dear grandfather of nine; dear brother of the late Bill (Marilyn) Griffin, passed away Jan. 6, 2005, age 78.
Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Neidhard-Gillen Funeral Home, 7401 Hamilton Ave., Mt. Healthy, (Cincinnati, OH area), with Third Degree Knights of Columbus Prayers at 7:30 p.m.
Archbishop Elko Assembly SKs to perform Fourth Degree Honors. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption, 7711 Joseph St., Mt. Healthy, with burial to follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Assumption Building Fund, Hamilton County Special Olympics or Llanfair Retirement Village. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Joe retired from G.E., where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was a life time member of the Madonna Council # 3891 Knights of Columbus and a member of the Archbishop Elko Assembly.
M. Lorraine Dawson

Mrs. M. Lorraine Dawson, age 93, of 1747 Adams Avenue, Graystone Court, Tyrone died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005 at 7:50 a.m. at Epworth Manor. She was born Sept. 14, 1911 in Tyrone, the daughter of Harry D. Thompson and Olive Merritts Comly.
She was first married to Richard Patrick O’Brien who died in 1948 and on Aug. 6, 1951 she was married to Earl B. Dawson who survives. Also surviving is one son, William R. O’Brien and wife Sue of Tyrone; two grandchildren- Donna L. O’Brien of Tyrone and Patrick E. O’Brien and wife Leanne of O’Fallon, IL and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Dawson was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, of the Ivy Sewing Club and had belonged to the Band Mothers. Prior to her retirement she had worked at the Shaffer Stores, Engelman Florist, Lugg and Edmonds, Gardner’s Candy Store and Gardner’s Prom Peanuts and Candle Sales.
Funeral service for M. Lorraine Dawson will be Monday, Jan. 10, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. with Pastor T.M. Talbot-Moses officiating.

Suzanne Sickler Ohl

Mrs. Suzanne Sickler Ohl, age 81, of 5 Oak Hill Lane, Tyrone died Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at 10 a.m. at Altoona Regional Health System Bon Secours Campus.
She was born September 11, 1923 at Hillcrest in Tyrone, the daughter of Harry and Isabel McNelis Sickler and on July 30, 1976 she was married at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, West Orange, NJ to Paul Williamson Ohl who preceded her in death September 24, 1995.
Known as “Suey” she was the mother and grandmother to the seven children of her late sister, Agnes Sickler Glenn, who died in California in 1964: James C. Glenn, Yorktown, VA; Harry Lee Glenn, Gibraltar, MI; Robert J. Glenn, Port St. Lucy, FL; David Sickler Glenn, Webster, NY; Jeanne Glenn Young, Tolland, CT; Kathryn Glenn Pfalzgraf, Tolland, CT; and Kenneth Joseph Glenn, Murrieta, CA; 15 grandchildren; two brothers, Leonard Christopher Sickler, Fort Myers, FL and Harry K. Sickler, Jr, Tyrone and three nephews and five nieces. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Agnes Glenn and Margaret Dotson and one brother, William Sickler.
She was a graduate of Tyrone High School Class of 1941, a graduate of Penn State University with advanced degrees from Columbia and Rutgers Universities. Mrs. Ohl enjoyed a national reputation as a Home Economics and Consumer Science educator. Her list of accomplishments and involvements was long. She was the author of two textbooks, state curriculum guides and numerous professional publications. She cooperated with government and many businesses on consumer and educational projects, the practical application of the metric system and the role of home economics in developing countries. She was listed in “Who’s Who in American Women” and “Leaders in Education”.
She taught for two years in the Tyrone public schools, did extension work in Erie and retired in 1977 after 32 years as Home Economics Supervisor-Teacher in the West Orange, NJ public schools.
Following her return to live in Tyrone, she was founder of the Tyrone Area Historical Society and served as its vice-president. She helped to bridge the past for local people. She was a genealogical researcher and traveled to Ireland and England to learn about her ancestry. She was recognized as “Tyrone’s Beloved Historian” by the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce for which she wrote a monthly history column. She was a life member of the American Home Economics Association, the New Jersey Home Economic Association, The National Education Association, the American Association of University Women, the International Federation of Home Economics, the New Jersey Education Association of Retired Teachers, the Penn State Alumnae Association and the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.
She was an active member of St. Matthew’s Roman Catholic Church and Court St. Rita #523 Catholic Daughters of America.
Funeral Mass for Mrs. Ohl will be said Saturday, January 8, 2005 at 10 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Roman Catholic Church with Father Joseph T. Orr officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Gaynell Ardell Zimmerman

Mrs. Gaynell Ardell Zimmerman, 81, of McCoy St. Ext., Northwood, Tyrone, died at 5:55 p.m. Saturday, January 1, 2005 at the Altoona Regional Health System Altoona Hospital Campus E.R.
She was born August 10, 1923 at Northwood, Tyrone, a daughter of Alonza T. and Annabelle (Tennis) Bennett.
She was married June 21, 1941 at Bellwood to Elmer A. Zimmerman, Sr. who died April 11, 1994.
She is survived by a son and three daughters, Elmer A. Zimmerman, Jr. and his wife Beverly of West Milford, N.J., Rev. Peggy J. Bonsell and her husband Gary of Bellwood, Brenda K. Zimmerman of York and Shelley A. MacDonald and her husband William of York; seven grandchildren: Mark Zimmerman, Beth Zimmerman, Karl Bonsell, Adam Bonsell, Andrew Shultzaberger, Tyffanny Shultzaberger and Heather MacDonald.
She was the youngest and last of her immediate family being preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
She was a former member of the Northwood Baptist Chapel, Christ United Methodist Church, Altoona Broad Ave. Methodist Church and the Warriors Mark Methodist Church.
She had attended the Tyrone Schools, was a former Gray Lady at Tyrone Hospital, a clerk at the Sakmar Stores in Tyrone and Bellwood. She was a part-time worker at Baney’s Flowers in Tyrone and she volunteered at Mt. Gilead Camp in the Poconos.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at 10 a.m. at the Derman Funeral Home, Inc., Tyrone, with Pastor Timothy Tangen officiating. Interment will follow at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. and one hour before the service Wednesday.
Contributions in her memory may be given to the Northwood Baptist Chapel, Warriors Mark United Methodist Church or to a charity of choice.
Anna J. Banks Irvin

Mrs. Anna J. Banks Irvin, 70, of Thomastown, RD4 - Box 244, Tyrone, Pa. died at 4:58 a.m. Sunday, November 21, 2004 at the Altoona Hospital Campus of the Altoona Regional Health System after a lengthy illness.
She was born Dec. 5, 1933 in Grazierville, Pa., a daughter of the late Anthony J. and Jessie M. (Grazier) Iadarola.
She was twice married, first to John H. Banks on March 14, 1953 at Bald Eagle, Pa. who died Nov. 28, 1977. Then to Robert H. Irvin on July 11, 1980 at Winchester, Va.
She is survived by her husband Bob; three sons, Rick A. Banks (Cheri) of Bellefonte, John H. Banks, II (Kathy) of Breckville, Ohio and Terry L. Banks (Stacey) of North Ridgeville, Ohio; five grandchildren; step-children, Deborah Murray (Mahlon) of Tyrone, Linda Smith (Larry) of Warriors Mark, William Irvin (Beth) of Port Matilda, Carole Womer (Ramey) of Philipsburg; five step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marjorie Gizzio of Wallingford, Pa, Antoinette Smith of Pottstown, Pa, Gloria Gutierrez of Houston, Tx.; one brother, Ronald J. Iadarola of Bellefonte, Pa; an uncle, Joseph M. Iadarola of RD4 Tyrone and an aunt, Mary Renata of Cresson, Pa.
She attended the Spring Mount Church of the Brethren.
She was a graduate of Tyrone High School in 1951.
She retired Aug. 1994 after 24 years in the Central Supply Dept. of Tyrone Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Derman Funeral Home, Inc., Tyrone, with Rev. Warren MacEachern officiating. Interment will follow at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and one hour before the service on Wednesday.

Carole A. Conrad, age 60, of Avalon, died Wednesday, July 14, 2004. Preceded in death by her father, Herbert W. Conrad, she is survived by loving mother Ruth R. (Callihan) Conrad of Warriors Mark, PA; brother James W. Conrad and his wife Betty of Warriors Mark; three nephews; one niece and three great nieces. A registered nurse, Miss Conrad was retired from Suburban General Hospital. Friends invited Thursday 7-9 p.m. and Friday morning from 9 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. in the Orion C. Greta Louise White

Mrs. Greta Louise White, age 78, of Sacramento, CA and a former Tyrone resident, died Friday, May 14, 2004 in CA. She was born January 13, 1926 in Lewistown, the daughter of Clarence Dyer and Matilda Edwards Barnes. On June 6, 1946, following his return from World War II, she was married to Robert DeLeon White and they enjoyed a marriage of 57 years.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Robert DeLeon White Sr.; two children - Robert DeLeon White Jr.; and Adrienne Christine Douglas and husband James; grandchildren - Tiffany Newman and husband Julian; James Douglas III and wife Cheyenne; Ty Douglas; Salina Dordon and husband Michael and great grandchildren - Diara Newman; Kirah Newman; Raina Newman; Jasen Douglas; Savannah Douglas, James Douglas IV and Alijah Douglas. Also surviving is a brother William Barnes and wife Tina and a sister Marva J. McLane and husband Horace and a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a brother Melvin Earl Barnes.
Mrs. White attended grade school in Tyrone and was a graduate of Tyrone High School Class of 1944. She continued her education at Penn State University. Shortly following the White’s marriage they opened “Bob’s Barber Shop” which was the first successful African-American business in State College, PA. While in State College she was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church where she oversaw the church publication. The family relocated to Oxnard, CA where they resided most of their lives before relocating to Sacramento. Mrs. White was affectionately given the nickname “Puggy” by her husband. She had a loving, gentle spirit. She loved reading, writing short stories, baking (especially fresh bread), gardening, antiques, fishing, tulips, sewing and a good hot cup of tea.
Funeral service for Greta Louise White was held Thursday, May 20, 2004 at South East Lawn Memorial Park, Elk Grove, CA with the Reverend Julian S. Newman officiating.
William Lee Cowher, Sr.

William Lee Cowher, Sr., 68, of Chalk Hill, formerly of Edgewood, passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2004 in Uniontown Hospital.
He was born September 29, 1935 in Tyrone. A son of the late W. Harry and Alma (Ross) Cowher.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Rev. Merle S. Cowher and Harold L. Cowher and a brother-in-law and wife Paul and Janet Bright.
“Bill” was retired from ICF Kaiser Engineering Group of Pittsburgh and a member of the AMVETS Post 103, a member of the Masonic Lodge 494 F & AM, the Ancient Accepted Scottish rite and Pittsburgh Consistory.
He was the past president of the Deer Lake Improvement Association.
Surviving are his wife, Jacquelyn A. (Donohue) Cowher; a son, William L. (Bill) Cowher Jr. of Swissvale; a daughter, Linda Bould and husband Patrick of Sewickley; grandchildren, Rachel Lee Bould and Patrick “Harrison” Bould and a sister, Lois Crowell and husband Jules of Tipton.
Friends will be received in the Donald R. Crawford Funeral Home, Hopwood, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday until 11 a.m. the hour of the service with Rev. Thomas Whitehead and Rev. Larry Crowell officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset View Cemetery.

Kaytlin Olivia Dale, went home to be with Jesus, after only 15 days on this earth, on Monday, May 31, 2004 at Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.
She was born May 16, 2004 in Clearfield, a daughter of Michael and Jill Mullen Dale, who survive in Tyrone.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a sister, Megan Elizabeth Dale at home; her maternal grandparents James and JoAnn Mullen of Meadville; her maternal step grandmother, Zola McKinley of Allentown; her paternal grandmother, Lorraine Dale of Altoona; and her paternal great-grandparents, Thomas and Marian Vay of Colver.
Friends will be received from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 5, 2004 at The Church of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 1650 Clay Avenue, Tyrone.
The funeral will be at the church at 1 p.m., with The Rev. Perry Babb, senior pastor of Antiock International Church in State College, officiating. Burial will follow at Alto Reste Cemetery, Plank Road, Altoona.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The King’s Children’s Home and Orphanage in Belize, with checks made payable to Antiock International Church, P.O. Box 1169, State College, PA 16804.

Frank F. Cornelius

Frank F. Cornelius, 86, of RD 4, Tyrone and a guest at Valley View Home died Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at 11:30 p.m. at the home.
He was born Feb. 7, 1918 at Grazierville, the son of Hayden and Bertha Fagley Cornelius and on Sept. 11, 1940 he was married at the Tyrone Church of the Brethren by Rev. John R. Snyder to Nellie M. Rupert who survives.
Also surviving is a grandson, Mark, of Grazierville; a daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Cornelius of Tyrone; a great granddaughter Cierra Cornelius; a sister, Katherine Buraik of Florida; and a brother Hayden Cornelius Jr. of Juniata.
His son, Jerry L. Cornelius preceded him in death April 14, 2002. He was also preceded by three brothers and four sisters.
He was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Tyrone Lodge No. 494 F. and A.M. Scottish Rite Consistory, Valley of Altoona, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Chief Logan Forest No. 131, Jaffa Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Altoona, Tyrone Area Shrine Club, Bellwood Beagle Club, United Transportation Workers Union, McIntire Hunting Camp.
He had been employed as a freight conductor for Conrail, retiring in 1979 after 40 years of service.
Funeral service for Frank E. Cornelius will be Saturday, April 10, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. with Rev. Andrew T. Bradley officiating. Interment will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Altoona.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Masonic Service will be held at 7 p.m.
