Ethel E. Miller Westley

Mrs. Ethel E. Miller Westley, 88, of 1509 Perry Ave., Tyrone, died Wednesday morning, February 14, 2007 at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus.
She was born August 12, 1918 at Juniata, Altoona a daughter of the late John Elden and Lucy (Hill) Burkholder.
She was twice married-first in June 29, 1941 to James A. Miller who died January 29, 1981 then in May 7, 1983 to Richard J. Westley who died February 11, 1998.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Miller Hardy (Len) of Carlisle, PA, a son Lee Miller (Joy) of Gilbertsville, PA, and a daughter Luann Miller Robison (Wayne) of McMurray, PA. Eight grandchildren, Kirsten Crawford (Wayne), Capt. Michael Hardy (Dee), Zachary Miller, Capt. Justin and Capt. Catherine Miller, Whitney Miller, Lyn Huertgen (Norman), Dawn Ellis (Dan), and Wade Robison. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, a sister, Billie Fowler of Altoona, and two brothers, John and Charles Burkholder of Pittsburgh.
She was preceded in death by a sister Erma Maillard.
She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd and formerly taught Sunday School and was active as a Brownie Girl Scout Leader.
She was a graduate of the Antis Township High School and Valedictorian of the class of 1935.
She was a loving wife and mother to her family and was an avid reader along with her passion of knitting and crocheting.
She was formerly employed as a machine operator at Big Yank Corp. for 33 years where she served as Shop-Stewerd for the Amalgamated A.C.W.A. Union.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 20, 2007 at 3 p.m. at the Derman Funeral Home, Inc., Tyrone, with Chaplain Mark Lilly officiating. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 1 p.m. to the time of the service at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Church of the Good Shepherd, 1650 Clay Ave., Tyrone, PA 16686.
Ruth E. Kirsch

Ruth E. Kirsch, 92, of Clearfield, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at Knickerbocker Villa, Clearfield.
Born on June 11, 1914 in Carrolltown, Cambria County, she was the daughter of Ambrose and Crissie (Woods) Feighner.
Mrs. Kirsch was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield. She belonged to the Rosary and Altar Society, the Catholic Daughters of America Court 498, the Junior Women’s Club and she was a volunteer for the St. Francis School Cafeteria.
Ruth graduated from Indiana State Teachers College in 1934 and was a teacher in Cambria County for several years before her marriage.
She wed Clair J. Kirsch on June 9, 1938 at St. Benedicts Church, Carrolltown.
Her hobbies were oil paintings, gardening, crocheting and golf.
Ruth is survived by her loving husband Clair and nine children: Suzanne Ross, Tyrone; Darrell Kirsch and wife Patricia (McNamee), Falls Creek; Dan Kirsch and wife Charlotte (O’Daniel), Dayton, Oh.; Barry Kirsch and wife Terese (Moore), of West Chester; Dick Kirsch and wife Sally (Gayley), DuBois; Frank Kirsch and wife Lizz (Kerr), Clearfield; Marion Shirey and husband Greg, Indiana; Tom Kirsch, Clearfield and Reverend Gregory Kirsch, pastor of the Central Moshannon Cluster, Morrisdale. Also, 23 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Evelyn Crowell of MD and Betty Miller of Carrolltown and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter Bridget Kirsch, a son in law John Ross, an infant brother Harold, two sisters Gertrude Weakland and Helena Kline-Hite and a brother Paul Feighner.
Mass of Christian Burial will be said at St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Saturday at 10 a.m. with Rev. Gregory A. Kirsch as celebrant.
Committal services and interment will follow at St. Nicholas Cemetery, Nicktown, Cambria County on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Baeardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
At the funeral home on Friday the rosary will be recited at 5:45 p.m. and a Christian Vigil service will be held at 1:30 p.m.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Saint Francis Educational Endowment Fund, 212 South Front Street, Clearfield, Pa. 16830.
Rev. Dr. Samuel Zachary Abraham

Rev. Dr. Samuel Zachary Abraham, 55, of 520 West 16th Street, Tyrone, PA died Monday, February 12, 2007 at Tyrone Hospital.
He was born September 22, 1951 in Philadelphia, a son of the late Norman and Lillian (Roth) Abraham.
He was married June 2, 1974 at Raynham, Mass. to Sharon L. Knox.
He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Sarah Abraham, a brother Paul Abraham of Newtown, PA, an uncle Jerry Roth of Apex, NC, and four cousins Adam Roth of Charlotte, NC, Sara Roth of Bragg, NC, Judi Abraham of Philadelphia and Hinda Abraham of California.
He was a graduate of Neshaminy High School, Langhorn, PA in 1969. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree at Millersville State College in 1974 and a T.H.D. “Bible Certificate” at Trinity Baptist College in Jacksonville, FL in 1994.
He also received three degrees from Louisiana Baptist Theological Seminary, MABS, Master Divinity and Dr. Ministries.
He had performed as a tenor in many operas in Pennsylvania and served as a missionary in Toronto, Canada for six years.
He was special in his delight and joy of life. He loved his family and friends and his church.
He was the Pastor of the Tyrone Bible Baptist Church for the past three and a half years. He was also teaching at the Altoona Bible Institute for two years.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 17, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Bible Baptist Church. 1455 Hamilton Ave. Tyrone, PA.
Arrangements are by the Derman Funeral Home, Inc., Tyrone.
Natalie B. Templeton

Natalie B. Templeton, 83, of Reservoir Drive, Tyrone died Sunday, February 11, 2007 at 10:57 p.m. at Epworth Manor.
She was born November 14, 1923 in Greensburg, a daughter of Frederick and Harriet (Armstrong) Borman. On July 10, 1945 in Asbury, New Jersey she married Roger Templeton Sr.
Surviving are her husband, a daughter Alice Lear and husband Joseph of Springfield, Missouri, three sons, Roger Jr. and wife Yvonne of Tyrone, Jonathon A. and wife Angela of Bangor, Thomas E. and wife Ardis of Uniondale, 10 grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Mrs. Templeton was a member of the Water Street Evangelical Church. She was an accomplished painter and her works are currently on display in a gallery at the Tyrone Hospital. She had attended the National Academy of Design in New York City.
With her husband she was active in volunteer missionary work around the world, helping to rebuild churches, homes and people’s lives in disaster stricken and impoverished areas including Nicaragua, Mexico, Belgium and Puerto Rico.
One of her greatest assets was her love of people.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 16, 2007 at 9 a.m. at Feller Memorial Home with Rev. Bruce Boyles officiating. Interment will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Edwin M. McCaulley, Jr.

Edwin M. McCaulley, Jr., 67, of Tyrone RD2, died Thursday afternoon, January 25, 2007, at his home.
He was born October 19, 1939 in Altoona, a son of the late Edwin M. and Ruth L. (Davis) McCaulley. He married Joan Elaine Loucks on October 20, 1956 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Bellwood.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years; children: Edwin M. of Bellwood, Linda Ann McCaulley of Tyrone, Barbara J. Stine of State College, Robin K. Walk of Bellwood, Darla J. McNulty of Altoona and Phillip A. McCaulley of Altoona; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister: Darlene Tritt of Mechanicsburg.
He was preceded in death by a sister Margaret Elizabeth McCaulley.
Mr. McCaulley retired in 1987 as a carpenter at DelGrosso Corporation, Tipton.
He was a member of Tipton Baptist Church.
Mr. McCaulley was a member of the Bellwood Sportsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, football and attending Bellwood-Antis sporting events.
Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, January 28, 2007 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, January 29, 2007 at Tipton Baptist Church with Rev. John Pine officiating.
The family will accept floral tributes, or contributions in Ed’s memory may be made to the Bellwood-Antis Public Library.
Frank Andrew Owens, Sr.

Frank Andrew Owens, Sr., 82, of 765 Washington Ave., Tyrone, died Friday evening, Nov. 24, 2006 at Altoona Regional Health System- Altoona Hospital Campus.
He was born July 5, 1924 in Tyrone, a son of William T. and Helen Parker (Andrews) Owens, Sr. He was married June 6, 1947 in Tyrone to Patricia C. Williams.
He is survived by his wife, a son Frank A. Owens, Jr. of Pittsburgh, daughter Karen S. Owens and a son Anthony L. Owens, Sr. and his friend Elaine of Tyrone; four grandsons: John O. McGill, IV of Sydney, Australia; Anthony L. Owens, Jr. (Melissa) of Lock Haven, PA, Marcus A. Owens of Tyrone and Jamal W. Owens of Indiana, PA; two great granddaughters: Jayden Rae Owens and Demea Brinsley Owens; five sisters and two brothers: Mary Ann Martin of Montclair, NJ; Esther Hendricks of Freeport, NY; Gwendolyn Scott of NY; Francis Crawford of Huntingdon, NY; Constance Cisco of NY; Carl Owens of Hemstead, NY and Andrew Holland of Altoona, PA.
He was preceded in death by a sister Patricia and brothers Gordon, William T., Jr. and John.
He attended the Tyrone Trinity Episcopal Church. He was a member of the Tyrone American Legion and the VFW. He was a former member of the Masonic Purity Lodge # 41. He loved fishing and his boat.
He was a Navy veteran of WW II, serving in the Asian and Pacific Theatres as a Chief Petty Officer.
He retired from Penn Central Railroad as a car inspector and welder after 24 years service.
Funeral services and Flag presentation will be held Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006 at 1 p.m. at the Derman Funeral Home, Inc., Tyrone with Rev. Jeanne Jacobson officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and one hour before the service on Wednesday.
Joseph A. Zang

Joseph A. Zang, 83, of RD 5, Tyrone died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006 at 6:55 a.m. at Altoona Center for Nursing Care.
He was born July 19, 1923 in Sicily, Italy, a son of the late Anthony and Rosa (Mazzeo) Zang. On Sept. 9, 1947 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Tyrone, he married Louise Domenick.
Surviving are his wife, a son Joseph R. and wife Gloria of Tyrone, a daughter Mary Margaret Zang of Tyrone, three grandchildren, Gina Grazier and husband Jeff, Jamie Zang and Julie Svendsen and husband Chris and three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Madison and Brendan Grazier. He was the last of his immediate family being preceded in death by two brothers: Eugene and Cosmo.
Mr. Zang served as steward of the Tyrone Elks # 212 for 45 years. He also was a chef consultant for various area restaurants for many years.
He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, a member of the former Gardner Guards Drum and Bugle Corp., Tyrone, the Tyrone Elks and the Southern Blair Chef’s Association, Altoona.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving as a Private First Class with the 129th Infantry in the Asiatic Pacific theatre.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006 at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew Church with Fr. Joseph T. Orr, Celebrant. Committal with veteran’s honors will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Feller Memorial Home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Elks memorial services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. and Christian Wake services at 8:30 p.m.

Samuel N. Burnham, Jr.

Mr. Samuel N. Burnham, Jr., age 90, a guest at Epworth Manor, died Saturday, November 25, 2006 at 8:37 a.m. at the Altoona Regional Health Systems - Altoona Hospital Campus. He was born June 7, 1916 on Burnham farm near Birmingham, the son of S. Neal and Stella Bonner Burnham. He is survived by a sister, Mary B. Grossman and husband Warren of San Francisco, three nieces and two nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles F. Burnham and a sister Jane B. Hughes. He was a graduate of Tyrone High School class of 1934. When in high school he won a contest to name the sports teams of the high school. His winning name was the “Golden Eagles”. Following graduation he farmed for 20 years on the family farm then, for several years, was an employee at Engelman’s Greenhouse, and at O’Rourke’s Upholstery and Market. He retired in 1986 following 16 years of service with Huntingdon Developmental Workshop where he was instrumental in developing employment for mentally challenged young people. Sam had a keen and unique sense of humor. He had a little story or bit of wisdom to fit every situation. He was well liked by all who knew him and will be sadly missed. He was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Grange and BPOE No. 212.
Private service will be held at the convenience of the family with interment in Birmingham Cemetery. Contributions in his memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 102 W. 13th St., Tyrone, Pa. 16686.
