Rosella M. Hollen

Rosella M. Hollen, 76, of Pennsylvania Ave., 2 W 11th St., Tyrone died Saturday, November 11, 2006 at Moran’s Home, Bellwood.
She was born September 14, 1930 in Tyrone a daughter of Charles and Cora (Sprow) VanAllman. On June 12, 1975 in Hagerstown, Maryland she married Harold Hollen. He died February 29, 1988.
Surviving are six daughters, Linda Harris of Huntingdon, Carrie Rhodes and husband Frank of Huntingdon, Dana Vingin and husband Don of Carnegie, Lisa Thomas of Cambridge, Mass., Cathy Jennings and husband David of West Chester, Linda Moore and husband John of Montana, 18 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a brother Fred VanAllman and wife Jane of Tyrone. She was preceded in death by a son Harry Hollen.
Mrs. Hollen was in the first home nursing class of the Home Nursing Agency, Hollidaysburg and had served as Nurses Aid for many years. She also was previously employed at Sylvania Corp., drove taxi and was a teacher’s aid.
A lover of children, Rosella served as foster parent and hosted fresh air children. She was an accomplished poet and enjoyed drawing.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Feller Memorial Home with Pastor David Bowen officiating. There will be no viewing and burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Mary Alice Harvey

Mary Alice Harvey, 81, of Bellwood died Wednesday evening, November 8, 2006 at Epworth Manor, Tyrone. She was born August 16, 1925 in Juniata, a daughter of the late Millard and Ethel L. (Smiley) Fern. She married J. William Harvey on April 12, 1950 in Bellwood.
Mrs. Harvey is survived by her husband; sons: J. Thomas of Moore, OK and David P. of Lockport, NY; daughters: Linda J. Harvey of Fredericksburg, MD, Sara M. Weamer of East Freedom and Amy S. Lunglhofer of Altoona; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; a sister: Betty Jo Shively of Muncy.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Verden A. and Guy S. Fern and sisters, Thelma Franks, Fay Kress, Laura Beichler and Marion Warren.
Mrs. Harvey retired as a school secretary at Bellwood-Antis School District. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Bellwood where she formerly served as treasurer and was a member of the choir. She enjoyed sewing, crafts and reading.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 11, 2006 at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Robert Ludrowsky officiating. Interment at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.

Robert K. Long

Robert K. Long, 89, of Janesville Pike, Tyrone died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006 at 1:55 p.m. at Epworth Manor.
He was born July 23, 1917 in Tyrone, a son of the late Octave and Helen (Sheesley) Long. On Nov. 18, 1940 in Pittsburgh he married Elizabeth L. Hampson. She died March 26, 1985.
Surviving are a daughter Franette Newman of Bowie, MD, two grandchildren: Thomas and David, a great-granddaughter Madison and a sister Mary Alice Yurick of Mentor, OH. He was preceded in death by a brother Paul B. Long.
Mr. Long retired in 1982 from Chicago Rivet and Machine Company, Tyrone as a machinist following 28 years of service.
He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, Howard Gardner American Legion Post #281, Tyrone Elks and the Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Company. In addition, he was active with the Tyrone Clubman for 35 years and was past president of the Tyrone Teener League, past commander of the Anderson-Denny VFW Post #4559 and the past commander of the Military Order of the Cooties Post #82.
He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of WWII serving as a Staff Sergeant with the 13th Air Force in the Pacific theatre where he received the Bronze Star Medal.
Funeral Mass will be held Friday, Nov. 10, 2006 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Joseph T. Orr, Celebrant. Committal will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Feller Memorial Home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Christian Wake services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 8:30 p.m.

Michael Evennach

Mr. Michael Evennach, age 85, of RR 1, Tyrone, died Saturday, February 3, 2007 at 9:45 p.m. at the Altoona Regional Health System, Bon Secours Campus. He was born November 8, 1921 in Tyrone, the son of John and Julie Sadik Evennach. He was the last of his immediate family. He is survived by a close friend, Helen R. Collitto.
Mr. Evennach was a member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. He had been employed at the Juniata Shops of the Pennsylvania Railroad, retiring in 1983. He was an Army veteran of World War II with service in the European Theatre. He was a member of the Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Company, Howard Gardner Post No. 281 American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4559.
Funeral service for Mr. Evennach will be Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. with Father Joseph T. Orr officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Gertrude R. "Gertie" Beichler

Gertrude R. “Gertie” Beichler, 88, of Bellwood died Friday evening, February 2, 2007 at Epworth Manor, Tyrone.
She was born May 19, 1918, in Coalport, a daughter of the late Alfred and Susan (Kruise) Young. She married O. Wray Beichler on September 6, 1935 in Cumberland, Md. He died January 25, 1978.
Surviving are daughters: Joan Shawley of Bellwood and Judy Datres of Tyrone RD2; a son: R. Wray and wife, Carol of Bellwood; 15 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren; also many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, two brothers and three sisters. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Gertie attended Tipton Baptist Church where she enjoyed the ladies guild and Bible study.
She worked at various restaurants in the Tyrone area including Fern’s and Rossi’s.
She was a member of the Bellwood Eagles.
Gertie enjoyed gardening, canning, crocheting, picking berries, summertime picnics and hunting. She especially enjoyed time with her family.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, February 5, 2007 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at the Funeral Home with Pastor John Pine officiating.
Philip J. Payne

Mr. Philip J. Payne, ago 90, of 1700 Hamilton Avenue, Tyrone and a guest at Epworth Manor, died Saturday, February 3, 2007, at 8:20 a.m. at the Manor.
He was born December 17, 1916 in Philadelphia, the son of Joseph F. and Sarah Judge Payne. On January 29, 1946 at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church he was married to Sarah Burns, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Charles Joseph and wife Alicia of Spotsylvania, VA and Philip Anthony and wife Carol of Lawrenceville, GA; four grandchildren, Timothy Charles, Mary Alicia, Erin Lynn Payne and Aileen Marie Payne; two nephews, Joseph Payne of TN and Thomas Laughlin of Philadelphia. He was the last of his immediate family. He had the license plate on his car of P -Team representing the Payne team consisting of grandchildren Tim, Erin, Aileen, and Molly.
He was a member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, St. Gregory Council No. 1218, a Fourth Degree Knight of the Bishop Garvey Assembly, Altoona. He was a graduate of Overbrook High School, Philadelphia in 1935 and retired in 1981 from Penn State University as night supervisor of Physical Plant after thirteen years service. He had previously been employed at J.C. Yenter Construction Co. and Juniata Packing Co. He was a veteran of service in World War II serving on a merchant ship with the Merchant Marines.
A funeral Mass will be said on Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Roman Catholic Church with Father Joseph T. Orr as celebrant. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. There will be a recitation of the rosary on Monday evening.

Susan A. Harpster

Mrs. Susan A. Harpster, age 57, of 2812 Butternut Road, Tyrone died Friday, February 2, 2007 at 9:15 a.m. at her residence.
She was born March 4, 1949 in Altoona, the daughter of C. Aden and K. Marie Hileman Troxell. On June 26, 1971 in Williamsburg she was married to James W. Harpster who survives. Also surviving are two children, James (Jennifer) Harpster of Cranberry Township and Julie (Travis) Anderson of Butternut Road, two grandchildren, Hunter and Trenton Anderson, her mother, a guest at Hillview Nursing Home and her father-in-law, James B. Harpster. Also surviving is her twin sister Carolyn (Perry) Clapper and another sister, Nancy (Dennis) Hoover, both of Williamsburg, four nephews, one niece, two grandnieces, and one grand nephew. She was preceded in death by her father, a brother Wayne Allen Troxell, her mother-in-law Geraldine Harpster, and in 1984 by a son Justin.
Mrs. Harpster was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Williamsburg and an associate at the Lower Spruce Creek Presbyterian Church. She was a graduate of Williamsburg High School in 1967 and L.P.N. School in Chambersburg. She had been employed as an L.P.N. at Epworth Manor, retiring in 1997 due to disability. She was a member of the Epworth Manor Auxiliary, the Warriors Mark Fire Company Auxiliary, the Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Candle Lighters, a support group for those afflicted with childhood cancer.
Funeral Services for Susan A. Harpster will be Monday, February 5, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. with Pastor Suzanne Morelli officiating. Interment will be in Blair Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Rita J. Cornmesser, 87, of Bellwood, died Thursday evening, February 1, 2007 at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus.
She was born in Bellwood, July 13, 1919, a daughter of the late Abram and Verna (Lee) Myers. She married William B. Cornmesser on June 12, 1942 in Bellwood. He died May 1, 2002.
Surviving are a son: Robert L. and wife, Cynthia of Bellwood; grandsons: William R. and wife, Stacey of St. Louis, Mo. and Jason E. and wife, Amanda of Edmond, Ok.; great-grandchildren: Drew, Owen and Claire and also nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, William B., Jr. in February 1957. Also by brothers, Lee and Lewis M. Myers and sisters, Amanda Clapper and Dorothy Jean Sheriff.
Mrs. Cornmesser was a 1936 graduate of Bellwood Antis High School and attended Catawba College.
She retired as a manager of Cornmesser furniture store, Bellwood. Rita was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Bellwood. She was a past member of the Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed raising flowers and plants.
Friends will be received from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, February 4, 2007 and 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, February 5, 2007 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 5 at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Robert Ludrowsky officiating.
Interment at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
