Robert R. Gilpin, Jr.

Robert R. Gilpin, Jr., 63, of P.O. Box 185, Tipton, Pa. died at 9:30 p.m. Friday, January 28, 2005 at the Select Specialty Hospital, Johnstown, Pa.
He was born November 26, 1941 at Cumberland, Md. the son of the late Robert R. and Evelyn (Magruder) Gilpin, Sr.
He is survived by a daughter Christine E. Centeno of Tulare, Ca. and a son Robert Bryan Gilpin of Corcoran, Ca.; four grandchildren: Anthony DuBois, Aurora Centeno, Joshua Gilpin and Hunter Gilpin and a sister, Karen Gay Johnson and her husband Nevin of Newark, Del.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Alan DuBois.
He was a member of the Tyrone First English Lutheran Church, a graduate of Tyrone Area High School in 1959 and attended the Altoona Campus of Penn State University. He was a former member of the Tyrone J.C.’s and was a volunteer at the James E. Van Zandt Veterans Hospital and the Altoona Hospital.
He had been employed at Gordon’s Jewelers, Gables Dept. Store, Westvaco Corp. and last as a security guard at the Tyrone Area High School.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 3, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Tyrone First English Lutheran Church with Rev. T. Talbot-Moses officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Cumberland, Md.
Friends will be received at the church one hour before the service Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be given to the First English Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 17 W. 13th St., Tyrone, Pa. 16686.

Doris (Hagerman) Matevish

Doris (Hagerman) Matevish, 84, of 307 N. Center St., Ebensburg died January 31, 2005 at Lee Hospital in Johnstown.
Mrs. Matevish was born September 15, 1920, a daughter of Raymond A. and Katherine (Kohn) Hagerman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband David in 1980, and sisters Helen Crowell, Rosemary Rollason and Rae Foust.
She is survived by children, David married to the former Anita Blososky; Robert married to the former Carol Trexler, both of Ebensburg; Richard married to the former Patricia Pasko, Clover; Raymond married to the former Karen Fecko, Johnstown and Mary Katherine wife of Michael McManus, Lock Haven. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Sister of Katherine Haga, Prosperity, W VA. She was a member of C D of A Court 680 Ebensburg, Ebensburg Senior Citizens.
She is a graduate of the former Philipsburg State Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1942 and former owner of the Matevish and Matevish Funeral Home, Ebensburg.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Matevish and Matevish Funeral Home, Ebensburg where vigil wake services will be held Tuesday evening.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Name Catholic Church, Ebensburg with the Rev. Msgr. Arnold L. Gaus. Committal at Holy Name Cemetery in Ebensburg.

Mrs. Jessica M. Geist, 94, of Bald Eagle, Box 166, RD 3, Tyrone, died at 7:45 a.m. Friday, January 28, 2005 at Epworth Manor, Tyrone.
She was born February 17, 1910 in Half Mood Valley, Centre Co. a daughter of Ryland and Lyda (Hicks) Mattern.
She was married October 28, 1937 at Williamsport to Chester E. Geist.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years and two daughters: Linda and her husband Ed Schenck of Hendersonville, Tenn. and Betty A. and her husband Dr. John Jabbs of Sarasota, Fla.; six grandchildren: Jim and (Julie) Schenck of Franklin, Tenn., Jessica and (Andrew) Luttrull of Hendersonville, Tenn., Stephanie and (Dr. Charles) Maurer of Fredericksburg, Va., Kimberly and (James) Terrill of Ovieda, Fla. and Dr. Kristin Jabbs of Philadelphia; eight great-grandchildren and three sisters: Louise Faust and Waneta Henderson of Tyrone and Sylvia Thompson of Warriors Mark.
She was preceded in death by a sister Barbara Gensimore and brothers W. Ryland and James Mattern.
She was a graduate of Port Matilda High School, a member of the Spring Mount Church of the Brethren, and a great homemaker. She was a member of the Bald Eagle Grange #1390 since 1950 and served as its Secretary for 32 years. For over 50 years, Jessica and her husband have been active members of the Antique Automobile Club of America and the Allegheny Mountain Region Auto Club. She always enjoyed her club member friends, car shows, parades and her pet Boston Terriers. She was involved in arrangements for Antique Cars in the 1957 Tyrone Centennial parades. She was co-owner of the Geist Museum Collection in Bald Eagle and she loved her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her animals and flowers.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Derman Funeral Home, Inc., Tyrone, with Pastor Todd Templeton officiating. Interment will follow at Bald Eagle Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Joseph Michael Holobinko

Joseph Michael Holobinko, 58, of Julian, died at his residence on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2005.
He was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Hines Holobinko. He was employed at the Penn State University as a budget officer retiring Oct. 15, 2004.
For 35 years he also ran his own private accounting service. He was retired from the US Army Reserves on April 1, 1997 as Lt. Colonel.
He enjoyed hunting and football.
He was a member and finance officer of both the VFW State College Post No. 321 and the Port Matilda American Legion Post No. 536, Madera Moose, Philipsburg AM Vets, the 40 and 8, Tyrone Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Club, Philipsburg Elks Club and the Port Matilda High Pines Camp, Inc.
He is survived by a companion, June Maney of Julian; two sons, John Holobinko of State College and Joseph Holobinko of the Baltimore area; two sisters, Judith Merrill of Prince Edward Island, Canada and Joan Swistock of Madera and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Feb. 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Eloise B. Kyper Funeral Home, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA 16801. A memorial service will announced at a later date.

Paul Robert Kliem

Paul Robert Kliem, 83, of the Colonial Courtyard, Tyrone, died at 8:35 p.m., Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at Beverly Health Care, Hillview, Altoona.
He was born Feb. 18, 1922 at Sandy Ridge, Pa., a son of Frank J. and Dessie (Wiser) Kliem.
He is survived by a sister Martha K. Shirk of RD 3, Tyrone; niece, Della Harris and her husband Albert of RD 3, Tyrone; niece, Ellen Shirk of Altoona and a grand nephew, Matthew Shirk.
He was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.
He was an Army Veteran of WW II, worked on the Pennsylvania Railroad for seven years, was a woodsman and a truck driver for Haggs Construction and Taylor Township.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 1, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Derman Funeral Home, Inc., Tyrone with Pastor Mike Baney officiating. Interment will be at Bald Eagle Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
James R. Carothers

James R. Carothers, 57, of Grazierville, died Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at 5:43 p.m. at Tyrone Hospital.
He was born November 11, 1947 in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Walter S. and Ruth (McFarland) Carothers. He has been married to Irene F. Riggleman for the past 25 years.
Surviving is his wife, a daughter Leslie at home, a son Michael of Tyrone, two granddaughters, Bobbi Jo and Kali Jean, two brothers Walt and wife Judy of Altoona, Blair and wife Darla of Bellwood and a sister Mary Hollen and husband Duane of Bellwood. He was preceded in death by a nephew Duane Hollen of Bellwood who died in the Persian Gulf War.
Mr. Carothers retired in 2002 from the Bellwood Antis School District as maintenance foreman of the bus garage following 10 years service. He was previously employed at James Industries, Hollidaysburg for 10 years.
He was of the Protestant faith and a member of the Handyman Club, NRA and AARP. He served as Tyrone Youth Football coach from 1982-1990. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan and enjoyed his 1957 Chevy.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 1, 2005 at 1 p.m. at Feller Memorial Home with Rev. Michelle Somerville officiating. Interment will follow at Alto Rest Park, Altoona. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of services.
Irene J. Woodring

Irene J. Woodring, 79, of S. Eagle Valley Road, Port Matilda, died Saturday, March 26, 2005 at her residence.
She was of the Methodist faith.
Mrs. Woodring was a nurse’s aide at Westerly Parkway Nursing Center, State College before her retirement in 1980.
She was a member of the Port Matilda American Legion Post 536 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, just being outdoors, especially with her family and trips to Atlantic City and Las Vegas.
Mrs. Woodring was born May 19, 1925 in State College, the daughter of the late Harry M. and Elizabeth A. Wance Inhoof.
On December 6, 1947 she married Raymond G. Woodring who preceded her in death, January 9, 1986.
She had two sons and three daughters: Raymond G. Woodring, Jr. of Port Matilda; Charles Woodring of Tipton; Carol Minns of Landisburg; Patty Grieb of Altoona and Debora J. Bell of Port Matilda.
Also surviving are one brother and four sisters: Kenneth Inhoof of Boalsburg; Helen Martin of Julian; Shirley Weaver of Aaronsburg; Jane Riley of Bellefonte and Isabella Fogleman of Pleasant Gap; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three sisters: June Horner; Marjorie Schindler and Alice Hems and three brothers: Herbert Inhoof; Richard Inhoof and Leroy Inhoof.
The funeral will be at Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, Milesburg on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at 10 a.m. with Pastor Samuel D. Reese officiating.
Friends will be received at the Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, Milesburg, Monday, March 28, 2005 from 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be at Black Oak Cemetery, Worth Twp., Centre Co., Pa.

Henry Foster ‘Butch’ Woomer, Jr.

Henry Foster “Butch” Woomer, Jr., 59, of RD 2, Box 490, Beaver Dam Rd., Hollidaysburg, PA died at 9:18 a.m., Monday, Aug. 22, 2005 at the Altoona Regional Health System-Altoona Campus E.R.
He never married.
He is survived by his mother, Margaret Louise Woomer of RD 3, Tyrone.
His longtime companion Theresa Gill and her children: Charles Gill, Carol Bonsell and Mary Frye of Tyrone.
Theresa Smith of Hollidaysburg, Lucille Boyer of Duncansville, Karen Watson of Howard and their grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was of the Methodist faith. A graduate of Tyrone Area High School in 1964. He served in the U.S. Army in 1965 and 1966. He was a member of the Nat’l Rifle Assn. and enjoyed hunting mushrooms, gardening and woodworking.
He was employed at the SKF Plant in Altoona from May of 1976 to his retirement in February of 2003.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Derman Funeral Home, Inc., Tyrone with Rev. Tim Miller officiating. Interment will be at Baughman Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and one hour before the service on Thursday.
