Donald E. Longenecker

Donald E. Longenecker, 74, of 604 W. 15th St., Tyrone died Thursday, August 19, 2004 at 5:30 p.m. at Altoona Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born February 26, 1930 in Tyrone, a son of the late William S. and Mary E. (Cain) Longenecker. On September 18, 1954 at St. Vladimer’s Eastern Orthodox Church, Smithmill he married Ella Jane Lashinsky.
Surviving is his wife, two daughters, Doreen Longenecker at home, Donna Campbell and husband Kevin of York and three grandchildren, Matthew, Rachel and Noah Campbell. He was preceded in death by two brothers, George and William.
Mr. Longenecker retired in 1972 on disability as a Machinist for Chicago Rivet and Machine Company, Tyrone.
He was a member of St. Vladimer’s Eastern Orthodox Church, Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Company and a life member of the Howard Gardner American Legion. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War serving as a Staff Sergeant. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 23, 2004 at 10 a.m. at St. Vladimer’s Eastern Orthodox Church, Smithmill with Fr. Paul Bigelow officiating. Interment will follow at Beulah Cemetery, Ramey. Friends will be received at the Feller Memorial Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Monday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
Sarah I. Putt

Mrs. Sarah I. Putt, 87, Bellwood, died Tuesday afternoon, November 30, 2004 at Altoona Regional Health Systems - Altoona Hospital Campus.
She was born November 3, 1917 in Hensbeytown, Antis Township, a daughter of the late Roy Michael and Melissa Katherine (McKinney) Dillon. She married Arthur J. Putt on April 18, 1933 in Clymer. He died May 31, 1993.
Mrs. Putt is survived by a son: Arthur G. of North Ridgeville, Oh; a daughter: Jeanette G. Sembrot of Cogan Station; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son: Robert M. on May 8, 1992; a sister: Mary Tanyer and also five siblings who perished in a fire in 1932.
Mrs. Putt was of the Baptist faith.
She loved attending barn dances, picking huckleberries, working “Find-A-Word” puzzle books and especially loved her family.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3 at the Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004 at the funeral home by Pastor Kenneth Beichler.
Interment at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township.
Norman E. Reed

Norman E. Reed of Buckingham died Friday, November 26, 2004 in Doylestown Hospital at the age of 74. He was the beloved husband of Carmen Shollenberger Reed. They had recently celebrated their 51st anniversary. Born in Altoona, Pa, he was the son of the late Charles Norman and Marie Cisney Reed.
For most of his working career Norman was employed as a truck driver and member of the Teamsters. He had driven for North Penn Transfer and retired from the Yellow Freight Co. of Bristol, Pa in 1995. Following that retirement he worked for the Tilley Fire Co. until his recent illness. He served in the US Army Corps of Engineers in Korea during the Korean conflict and later as a member of the PA National Guard. Mr. Reed was a life member of the Doylestown Fire Co. #1, a member and past master of Masonic Lodge #245 F & AM, and the Lahaska United Methodist Church. He had served as a volunteer for the Crossmen Drum & Bugle Corps of Allentown. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, LaFaun Reed of Buckingham and Jeanne Michele Reed of Charlotte, NC; five grandchildren, Louis G. Schultz and his wife Kelly L. of Sellersville, Alan Norman Schultz of Doylestown, Kimberly Michele Schultz, Ashley Marie Schultz and James Arthur Kahn all of Buckingham. A great-grandson, Tristan Alexander Schultz also survives. A funeral service will be held today, Wednesday, December 1, at 8 p.m. at the Reed & Steinbach Funeral Home, 2335 Lower State Rd., Doylestown, Pa. Interment service will be Friday, December 3 at 10 a.m. at Doylestown Cemetery, 215 East Court St. Doylestown, Pa. Contributions in Norman’s memory may be made to Doylestown Fire Co. #1, P.O. Jo Ann Cross

Jo Ann Cross, 66, of 1313 Blair Ave., Tyrone died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004 at Altoona Regional Health System, Bon-Secours Hospital.
She was born Sept. 30, 1938 in Tyrone, a daughter of the late Howard E. and Ethel E. (Freeman) Giver. On April 7, 1978, she married Harry Thomas Cross, Jr. at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Altoona.
Surviving is her husband, two daughters, Linda Long and husband Paul of Huntingdon, Melodie Gay Cross of Greenville, South Carolina, a grandson Jace Garett Long and two sisters, Faye Blake and husband James of Williamsport and Jeannette V. Patterson of Duncansville.
Mrs. Cross retired in 2000 from Epworth Manor, Tyrone as a social service worker following 26 years service. She was a 1956 graduate of Tyrone High School and a 1961 graduate of Nyack Bible College, Nyack, NY with a bachelor degree in missions.
She attended the Tyrone Alliance Church and the Fuoss Mills Missionary Alliance Church.
Jo Ann enjoyed the Tyrone Senior Citizen Center, crocheting and spending time with her grandson.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Feller Memorial Home with Pastor Tim Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Blair Memorial Park. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Gerald B. Parker

Gerald B. Parker, age 92, of Dillsburg, formerly of Washington Crossing, PA and West Palm Beach, FL, passed away Sunday, November 28, 2004 at the Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle, PA.
Mr. Parker was the retired Customer Service Eastern Regional Manager with Sears located in Trenton, NJ. He was also a US Army Veteran of WWII, had a great love of boating and deep sea fishing, an avid bird lover and a member of the Sons of Norway.
Mr. Parker is survived by his wife, Mary E. Reighard Parker. His sons, Randolph L. Parker, of Washington Crossing, PA, and Gerald B. Parker of Tyrone. His daughter, Pamela L. Alkins, Dillsburg, PA. Eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a son, Ronald E. Parker of Tyrone.
Services will be held Wednesday, 2 p.m., December 1, 2004 at the Cocklin Funeral Home, Inc., 30 N. Chestnut Street, Dillsburg, PA with Reverend M. Edward Messersmith officiating. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. A visitation will be held Wednesday from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

Vesta Marie ‘Chickie’ Martinez

Vesta Marie “Chickie” Martinez, 74, of 1352 Bald Eagle Ave., Tyrone died Sunday, November 14, 2004 at UPMC, Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh.
She was born January 10, 1930 in Tyrone, a daughter of Zachariah and Vesta (Williams) Sprankle. On July 15, 1950 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Tyrone she married Victor F. Martinez. He died February 16, 2002.
Surviving are three daughters, Sherry Ann Reese, Tyrone; Vickie Jo Kunkle, Altoona and Dawn Marie Barr, Sinking Valley; four sons, Francis, Mark, David and Scott all of Tyrone; seven grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; a sister, Mary Jane Rieti and husband George, Bridgeton, N.J.; a brother Charles Sprankle of Bellwood; a sister-in-law Beverly Sprankle, Tipton; a brother-in-law Rocco DelBaggio Sr., Tyrone and a special niece Joyce Miller, Tyrone. She was preceded in death by a sister Marian DelBaggio and brother and sister-in-law Zack and Shirley Sprankle.
Mrs. Martinez was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of America, Court St. Rita and the Grazierville Gang. She enjoyed reading, books and drawing.
Chickie loved her children and her children loved her. She made them all feel like they were her favorite.
Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, November 17, 2004 at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew Church with Fr. Joseph T. Orr, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends will be received today at Feller Memorial Home from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wake services will be held at the funeral home today at 8:30 p.m.

Harry E. Baer, age 83, formerly of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania died Tuesday October 2, 2001 in the Forest Park Nursing Care Center, Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He was a former clerk for the Pennsylvania Railroad and retired from Con Rail. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II. He was a graduate and former class president of the former William Penn High School, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He also graduated from the former Shippensburg College, Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. He was born in Steelton, Pennsylvania on November 20, 1917 the son of the late Harry and Kathryn Finney Baer. Many friends referred to him as Baer Cat and was a advid golfer at the Sportsman's Golf Club and many other area courses. He is survived by his son, Charles E. Baer, San Jose, Ca. His daughters, Sue Graham of Dillsburg, PA and Janice Hamm of Harrisburg, PA. Services will be held Friday, October 5, 2001 11:00 AM in the Cocklin Funeral Home, Inc. 30 N. Naomi R. Baker-Johns, age 65, of Mechanicsburg, PA died Thursday, December 20, 2001 at her home.
She was born August 19, 1936 in Tulsa, OK the daughter of the late Rev. Clifford and Elizabeth Henderson Hundley.
She formerly owned the New Creation Travel Agency, Camp Hill, PA. She also was formerly empoyed with Cayman Air Ways, Grand Cayman Island, British West Indies. She was a member of Christian Life Assembly, Camp Hill, PA. She was formerly associated with the Couriers and was a former choir director for First Assembly, Harrisburg, PA and the Gospel Tabernacle, New Kensington, PA. She was a former member of the Revival Time Choir at Central Bible College.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Edward E. Johns. Two sons, Jay R. Baker, Mechanicsburg, PA and Kurt T. Baker, Stevens, PA. Three step-sons: Richard R. Johns, Paris, France; Peter E. Johns, Kingston, Ontario; John Erickson, Houston, TX. Four step-daughters: Susan J. Stewart, Toronto, Ontario; Cynthia D. Savage, Grand Cayman Island, British West Indies; Joann Saunders, Victoria, B.C.; Jane Allen, Marble Falls, TX. Four brothers: Robert L. Hundley, Van Buren, MO; Rev. Edwin S. Hundley, Phoenix, AZ; Rev. Raymond T. Hundley, Kansas City, MO; Rev. Wesley E. Hundley, Phoenix, AZ. Two sisters, Charlotte Fern Sheffield, Grantham, PA and Linda Sue Hundley, Brussels, Belgium. She is survived by four grandchildren.
Services will be held Friday, December 28, 2001 at 11:00 AM in Christian Life Assembly, 2645 Lisburn Rd., Camp Hill, Pa with the Rev. David Kyllonen officiating. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in the East Ridge Cemetery, Cherry Tree, PA. Viewings will be held Thursday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at the funeral home and on Friday from 10-11 AM at the church.
