NELL MAE SWARTZ
BEDFORD, Pa. - Nell Mae Swartz, 87, of West Pitt Street, Bedford, died Tuesday, July 1, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born April 6, 1910, in Hyndman, she was the daughter of the late Jasper and Viola Elizabeth (Wolford) Luman. She married Abram Swartz in December, 1936, in Cumberland. He preceded her in death on June 13, 1953. She also was preceded in death by three sisters, Ethel Hager, Mary Alexander, and Anna Louise Luman; and two brothers, Earl and Harold Luman.

Mrs. Swartz was a member of the Bedford Presbyterian Church and the Good Cheer Class of the church. She was a former elementary school teacher in the Hyndman schools.

Surviving are one brother, Clark F. Luman and wife Sue (Sanner), Cumberland; and two sisters, Frances Clapper and husband Roger, Buffalo Mills, and Patricia Teal, San Pedro, Calif.

Friends will be received at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, 214 South Juliana St., Bedford, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Stephen R. Melton officiating.

Interment will be in Lybarger Lutheran cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Hospice Unit, Seton Drive, Cumberland, MD 21502 or to the Bedford Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 7, Bedford, PA 15522.

HOWARD C. SWARTZWELDER
CUMBERLAND - Howard C. Swartzwelder, 73, of 321 North Centre St., died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 1997, at his home.
Friends will be received at the Louis Geisel Funeral Home, 330 East Pitt St., Bedford, Pa., on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John Sammel officiating.

Interment will be in Bedford County Memorial Park.

C. RAYMOND SARVER
WELLERSBURG, Pa. - Charles Raymond Sarver, 68, of Wellersburg, went to be with his Savior on Saturday, May 10, 1997, at Scared Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born March 13, 1929, at Cumberland, he was the son of the late Charles A. and Jennie M. (Crissey) Sarver.

Mr. Sarver was a retired store room clerk for CSX Corp. He was a faithful member of his church family, the Full Gospel Bible Church, Meyersdale.

He will be greatly missed, but his surviving family takes solace in the knowledge of the heavenly reunion to come.

Surviving are his wife, Carol S. (Lazure) Sarver; three sons, Charles H. Sarver and wife Carol, Ellerslie, Md., Barry L. Sarver and wife Nancy, Cumberland, and Marty R. Sarver, Wellersburg; a daughter, Rhonda E. Sarver, Wellersburg, and her fiance, Mike Klepitch, Cumberland; four grandchildren, Tracy A. Sarver and wife Betsy, Cumberland, LaRae K. Moore and husband Royce, Hyndman, Misty M. Sarver and fiance David Dyer, Cumberland, and Shane R. Sarver, Frostburg; and three great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, on Monday from 5 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Dwight Yinkey and the Rev. James Davis officiating.

Interment will be in the Pine Hill Lutheran cemetery, near Berlin.

Memorials may be sent to the Wellersburg Fire Department, Mount Savage Fire Department, or the Full Gospel Bible Church.

MURIEL R. SCHRAMM
COLUMBIA, Pa. - Muriel R. Schramm, 70, of 370 Sylvan Retreat Road, Columbia, formerly of Cresaptown, Md., died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1997, at her residence.
Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Emma (Litty) Matthews. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Schramm, in 1988.

Mrs. Schramm has resided in the Columbia area for the past six years. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are two daughters, Debbie Evans and husband Jack, York, and Susan Rodgers and husband Ray, with whom she resided; two sisters, Pat Ross, Philadelphia, and Betty Muller, Methuen, Mass.; and five grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at the Cresaptown Assembly of God, Warrior Drive, Cresaptown, on Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997, at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Timothy McGregar and the Rev. David Lease officiating.

Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale, Md.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Cresaptown Assembly of God Building Fund, Warrior Drive, Cresaptown, MD 21502.

The Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Columbia/Landisville, Pa., is in charge of the arrangements.

ANNA L. SEMBOWER
SOMERSET, Pa. - Anna Louise Sembower, 72, of East Main Street, Somerset, died Saturday, July 26, 1997, at Somerset Hospital.
Born Nov. 25, 1924, in Ridgeley, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Harry W. and Anna (Lohr) McFarland. She also was preceded in death by eight brothers.

Surviving are her husband, Robert E. "Hank" Sembower Sr.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert E. Sembower Jr. and wife Lois, Somerset, and James E. Sembower and wife Rosemarie, Rockwood; and four beautiful grandchildren, Carrie Grace, Jordan Jon Robert, Adam James and Kelli Rose Sembower; and one sister, Virginia Leacock, Pinellas Park, Fla.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. We all loved her dearly. Her death ended a marriage union of 55 years.

She was a member of the Somerset Church of the Brethren, and Fifty Five and Over Speeders. She was formerly employed by Rockwood Schools and Rockwood Casualty Insurance Company. Friends will be received at the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home, Somerset, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Roger L. Forry officiating.

Interment will be in the IOOF cemetery, Rockwood.

A. BURTON SHAFER
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A. Burton Shafer, 79, a resident of Menno Haven Penn Hall, Chambersburg, and formerly of Greencastle, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Aug. 14, 1997, at the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born in Little Orleans, Md., he was the son of the late Archibald Richard and Edith Hazel (Sauerwein) Shafer. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Louise H. (Martin) Shafer, on Oct. 5, 1992, a son, Allen W. Shafer, in 1972, and two sisters, Edith Sharron and Mildred Offord.

He was a truck driver for 30 years having driven for Poney Express and Hahn's Transportation, New Market. He had attended the Macedonia United Brethren Church near Greencastle. Mr. Shafter was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are a daughter, Doris L. Martin, Hagerstown; three sons, Arnold B. Shafer, Enola, Carl R. Shafer and D. Bernard Shafer, both of Huntsville, Tenn.; one brother, Dudley Shafer, Cumberland; three sisters, Dorothy Norris, Cumberland, Mary Hoover, Hagerstown, and Virginia Herrick, Portland, Maine; his stepmother, Harriett Shafer, Hagerstown; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great- grndchildren.

Friends will be received at the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Gary Zook officiating.

Interment will be in Cedar Lawn cemetery, Hagerstown.

MARY E. SHAFFER
HYNDMAN, Pa. - Mary E. Shaffer, 72, of Hyndman, died Saturday, July 5, 1997, at her residence.
Born June 22, 1925, in Hyndman, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd E. and Tolva (Miller) Shaffer. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Winifred Christner.

Mrs. Shaffer was a homemaker and a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband of 51 years, Edgar J. Shaffer; three sons, Lawrence E. Shaffer, Stanley V. Shaffer, and Stuart M. Shaffer, all of Hyndman; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Vernon Shaffer, Ray Shaffer, and Arden Shaffer, all of Hyndman; and three sisters, Irene Dunbar, Edenton, N.C., Philomene Bonner and Jean McCoy, both of Hyndman.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m.

Interment will be in the Hyndman cemetery.
