MELVIN J. MILLER
CLEARVILLE, Pa. - Melvin J. Miller, 75, of Route 3, Box 176, Clearville, died Monday, May 19, 1997, at Devlin Manor Nursing Home.
Born May 29, 1921, in Bedford Valley, he was the son of the late Richard Roman Miller and the late Teresa Melinda (Miller) Miller. He also was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lindsay Miller.
Mr. Miller was retired from the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. He was a member of Beans Cove United Methodist Church, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are three sons, David W. Miller and wife Melinda, Cumberland, Robert Stephen Miller, with whom he resided, Clearville, and William J. Miller and wife Donna, Cumberland; a daughter, Doris Kinser Hilton and husband Robert, Glen Burnie, Md.; a brother Walter W. Miller, Baltimore; three sisters, Clara Hoopengardner, Beans Cove, Hazel Bragg and husband Gene, Bedford Valley, and Irene Gordon, Claysburg; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Edward Dickel officiating.
Interment will be in Union cemetery, Centerville.
CLARK PRICE, JR.
HYNDMAN, Pa. - Clark "Hap" Price, Jr., 73, of Hyndman, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Aug. 14, 1923, in Brunswick, Md., he was a son of the late Clark G. and Lilla (Speaks) Price.
Mr. Price served in the U.S. Army and was a machinist with the B&O; Railroad. He was a member of the Moose and American Legion, both in Brunswick, Md., as well as being a member of the International Association of Machinists, and a lifetime member of the Hyndman VFW. Surviving are his wife, Mary (Nelson) Price; a son, Larry Price, Concord, N.C.; a daughter, Michelle Fox, Keyser, W.Va.; four brothers, Richard Price, Gettysburg, Woody Price, Gary Price and Wayne Price, all of Brunswick, Md., two sisters, Dot Caniford, Brunswick, Md., and June Utterack, Knoxville, Md.; and four grandchildren, Erin and Matt Price, and Courtney and Colin Fox.
Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Leroy Logsdon officiating.
Interment will be in Hyndman cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be members of the Hyndman VFW.
Graveside military honors will be accorded by the Hyndman VFW and Bedford Honor Guard.
CHARLES H. ROWZEE
BEDFORD VALLEY, Pa. - Charles Hamilton Rowzee, 81, of Bedford Valley, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born Aug. 17, 1916, in Points, W.Va., he was the son of the late Walter and Ella (Haines) Rowzee. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl Rowzee and Howard Rowzee; and one sister, Goldie Rowzee.
Mr. Rowzee was a self-employed distributor and operator of the White Barn, Bedford Valley, and Zero Discount, Keyser, W.Va. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and was a Methodist by faith.
Surviving are his wife Nellie (Edwards) Rowzee; two sisters, Ada Edwards, Augusta, W.Va., and Hilda Edwards, Points, W.Va.; one brother, Edgar E. Rowzee and wife Nellie, Flint, Mich.; special nephew, Jack E. Emerick, Oldtown Road, Oldtown, Md.; special friends, Mark A. Wilson and wife Peggy, Wrightsville, J. Eugene Bragg and wife Hazel, and Cheryl A. Duffy, all of Bedford Valley; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with Gary Edwards officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

THELMA R. MILLER
HYNDMAN, Pa. - Thelma Ruth Miller, 67, of Hyndman, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born Oct. 21, 1929, near Hyndman, she was the daughter of the late Otto T. and Sarah M. (Clites) Burkett. She also was preceded in death by her husband Clyde A. Miller, on Nov. 21, 1992; and two sisters, Hilda Hengst and Emma Donahue.
Mrs. Miller was known by family and friends as someone who always cared and who took time to talk. Her never ending smile and laughter were known to many and will be sadly missed. Her happiness in life was her two grandsons and doing things for others. She was a retired waitress. She had worked at the White Coffee Pot in LaVale for 20 years and previously at the Fort Cumberland Hotel. Mrs. Miller was a member of the Hyndman First United Church of Christ.
Surviving are one daughter, Emmogene Smiley and husband Fred, LaVale, Md.; two grandsons, Jeffrey and Brett Smiley; one brother, Delford Burkett, Hyndman; three sisters, Evelyn Elliott, Hyndman, Dorothy Leydig, Somerset, and Helen Robosson, Hyndman; two brothers-in-law, Clarence Hengst, Hyndman, and Joseph Donahue, Corriganville, Md.; and several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Darlene Bridges, Ellerslie, Md.

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Ray A. Moats Sr., 54, of Woodside Drive, Gettysburg, formerly of Terra Alta, W.Va., died Thursday, Oct. 2, 1997, at the Gettysburg Hospital, Gettysburg.
Born Dec. 11, 1942, in Ervin, W.Va., he was the son of the late Summers W. and Rettie M. (Moats) Moats.
Mr. Moats owned and operated Ray's Auto Repair, Terra Alta, for over 20 years until 1992. He was a truck driver for Smith Distributing and was a social member of the VFW, Terra Alta.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Lula R. (Haskiell) Moats; three daughters, Donna Jean Sines, Bunker Hill, W.Va., Joan Marie Moats, Martinsburg, W.Va., and Sherry Ann Rogers, Falling Waters, W.Va.; four sons, Ray A. Moats Jr., Dean Wesley Moats, and Billy Joe Moats, all of York, and Darren Ray Moats, Gettysburg; his companion, Wilma Mae (Miller) Moats; two stepdaughters, Wilma Tasker and Phyllis Tasker, both of Reedsville, W.Va.; three stepsons, Clifton Moats, York, David Moats, Gettysburg, and Rodney Allen Moats, Reedsville, W.Va.; one sister, Clara Lease, Morgantown, W.Va.; one brother, Clyde Moats, Rowlesburg, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren; 16 step-grandchildren; and his faithful dog companion, Missy.

JOSEPH A. MURPHY
SALISBURY, Pa. - Joseph A. Murphy, 64, of 51 Union St., Salisbury, died Friday, Dec. 12, 1997, at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio.
Born Nov. 15, 1933, in Meyersdale, he was a son of the late Joseph E. and Evelyn (Johnson) Murphy. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley E. Murphy.
Mr. Murphy was a retired jobsetter for General Motors Corporation, Parma, Ohio. He was a member of UAW Local 1005 and the Shunk Run Gun Club.
Surviving are his wife, Joann (Farner) Murphy; a son, Larry J. Murphy and wife, Susan, Lakewood, Ohio; a granddaughter, Jessica; two brothers, Carl E. Murphy, Berlin, and Bernard J. Murphy, Meyersdale; and a sister, Deborah Shouse, Ga.

ELNORA KATIE MILLER
SPRINGS, Pa. - Elnora Katie Miller, 76, of Springs, died Friday, Nov. 7, 1997, at the Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.
She was born Nov. 23, 1920, at Springs, and she was the daughter of the late Myron G. and Grace O. Moser Miller.
Miss Miller was a member of the Springs Mennonite Church and formerly worked as a bookkeeper at the Miller Machine Works.
She is survived by three brothers, Blaine E. Miller and wife, Mary, Dick L. Miller and wife, Emma, and Gary C. Miller and wife, Greta L., all of Springs.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, on Saturday, Nov. 8, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Springs Mennonite Church, Sunday, Nov. 9, at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Steve Heatwole officiating.
Interment will be in Upper Springs cemetery.
