REVEREND B.F. "FRANK" MEACHAM LT. COL. RETIRED
BEDFORD, Pa. - The Rev. B.F. "Frank" Meacham, Lt. Col. Retired, 88, of Bedford Valley, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 1998, at his home.
Born June 12, 1910, in Rockingham, N.C., he was the son of the late William B. Meacham and the late Mattie (Whitlock) Meacham. He was also preceded in death by a son, Captain Richard Franklin Meacham, U.S. Air Force. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Rev. Meacham was a retired U.S. Air Force chaplain for 20 years. He was a member of St. Pauls North Carolina Lions, American Legion, VFW, Kiwanis. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He was also a retired United Methodist Minister.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Mildred Clarke (Appling) Meacham, Bedford Valley; a daughter, Marilyn R. Growden and husband, Ron, with whom he resided, Bedford Valley; three grandchildren, Darby Meacham Thomas, Houston, Texas, Jennifer Rebecca Growden, Bedford, and Emily Clarke Growden, Bedford.

A memorial service will take place in St. Pauls, N.C., at a later date.

Arrangements were by the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, Md.

MELVIN E. MEARKLE
EVERETT, Pa. - Melvin E. Mearkle, 66, RD 4, Everett, died in the Altoona Hospital, Altoona, on Jan. 14, 1998.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth Anna; a son, the Rev. Dr. Rickey L. Mearkle, Maidstone, Kent, England, and wife, Elizabeth; a daughter, Cynthia, wife of Donald Musselman, RD 1, Hopewell; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Eleanor Clark and Arlene Snyder, both of Clearville; and a brother, Merle L. Mearkle, Altoona.

Mr. Mearkle was a member of the Everett First United Church of Christ. He was employed as an iron worker for the Somerset Steel Erection Company, Boswell, and worked out of Union Local #568, Cumberland, Md., for 47 years. He also was a U.S. Army veteran.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, at 11 a.m, at the Everett First United Church of Christ, with the Reverends Robert R. Roberts, George Yocum and Chester Carbaugh officiating.

Friends may call at the Dalla Valle Funeral Service, Main Street, Everett, on Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m., and at the church on Monday one hour prior to the services.

Interment will be in the Everett cemetery, with military graveside services.

Contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity, 137 East Pitt St., Bedford, PA 15522, Attention Mr. Rudy Plummer, in memory of Mr. Mearkle.

WILLIAM W. NACE
OAKLAND - William Wampler Nace, 91, of Oakland, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998, at his home.
Born Oct. 10, 1907, in McConnellsburg, Pa., he was a son of the late Merrill W. Nace and Alice (Dickson) Nace. He also was preceded in death by his first wife of 29 years, Ella Mae (Anderson) Nace; his second wife of 18 years, Margaret L. (McDaniel) Nace; and a stepson, Ronald D. McDaniel.

After graduating from Pennsylvania State Forestry School, Mont Alto, Pa., in 1928, he was appointed Assistant District Forester in the Pennsylvania Department of Forest and Waters. In 1936, he joined the soil conservation service and as the first District Conservationist in Maryland, established the Soil Conservation Office in Kent, Howard, Allegany and Garrett counties, serving as District Conservationist of the Garrett Soil Conservation District from 1943 until 1972. He then held the position of district manager of the Garrett District until his retirement in 1977. One of his most important accomplishments was the Little Yough Flood Control Project in which a series of small dams including Broadford Dam were built to control the floods that periodically flooded downtown Oakland. He also served as advisor to the Maryland Strip Mine Reclamation Board. Among his awards were the Water Conservation Award from the Maryland Wildlife Federation, the Sustained Conservation Leadership Award from the Soil Conservation Society of America, and the Conservation Award form the Woodmen of the World. He was a member of the Oakland-Mountain Lake Park Lions Club for more than 50 years, and was an avid gardener, hunter and fisherman.

Surviving are three sons, David A. Nace, Clarksville, Md., William D. Nace, Charleston, W.Va., and Thomas W. Nace, Queensbury, N.Y.; one daughter, Cynthia Nace Barnes, Cochranville, Pa.; one stepson, F. Leslie McDaniel, Oakland; two sisters, Mary Logan Anderson, Fairview, N.C., and Elizabeth Nace Livingston, Hendersonville, N.C.; one brother, David. S. Nace, Camp Hill, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Monday from 11 a.m. until noon.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home Monday at noon.

Interment will be in the Oakland cemetery,

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to the Founders Society Scholarship Fund, c/o Penn State Mont Alto University Relations, 1 Campus Drive, Mont Alto, PA 17237.

VIRGINIA H. NAVE
CENTERVILLE, Pa. - Virginia H. Nave, 82, of Centerville, formerly of Romney, W.Va., died Monday at the Donahoe Manor Nursing Home, Bedford.
Friends will be received at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Service, 214 S. Juliana St., Bedford, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the Centerville United Methodist Church, Thursday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Barbara Ammann officiating.

CHARLES M. "CHUCK" O'DONNELL JR.
MEYERSDALE, Pa. - Charles M. "Chuck" O'Donnell Jr., 55, of Meyersdale, died Aug. 23, 1998, in Meyersdale.
Born June 27, 1943, in Curtisville, he was a son of Inez (McBee) O'Donnell, Meyersdale, and the late Charles M. O'Donnell Sr. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Janet L. Kemp, on April 13, 1998.

A loving father, he is survived by two children, Charles M. O'Donnell III, Greensburg; and Inez M. O'Donnell, Meyersdale. He was a brother of Michael O'Donnell, Meyersdale, Robert O'Donnell, Somerset, Mary Jane Holden, McHenry, Ill., and Connie Silliman, New Bethlehem.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he served on the U.S.S. Wasp. He was a member of American Legion Post 112. He was employed by Chase Royston Laboratories Inc., Blawnox. He and his wife owned and operated O'Donnell's Old Firehouse Restaurant in Salisbury.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Price Funeral Home, Meyersdale, where the service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday with Pastor Robert Stahl officiating.

Interment will be in the Union cemetery, Meyersdale.

MAUDE B. OWENS
HYNDMAN, Pa. - Maude B. Owens, 89, of Water Street, Hyndman, died Tuesday, April 28, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born Sept. 27, 1908, at Palo Alto, near Hyndman, she was a daughter of the late William M. and Violet M. (Hillegass) Burkett. She also was preceded in death by her twin sister, Marian Buffenmyer; and a brother, Russell Burkett.

On Feb. 15, 1930, at Ellerslie, Md., she married James W. Owens. He survives along with two sons, Paul J. Owens of Joppa, Md., and Jack M. Owens of Silver Spring, Md.; a daughter, Patricia Hooker of Airville; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Kenneth Burkett of Tulsa, Okla.

Mrs. Owens was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Hyndman.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Leroy Logsdon officiating. Interment will be in the Hyndman cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the Grace United Methodist Church, Hyndman, PA 15545.

RUTH G. PARK
HYNDMAN, Pa. - Ruth G. Park, 79, of Woodbury, Conn., formerly of Hyndman, died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at The Lutheran Home, Southbury, Conn.
Born August 27, 1918, at Thomas, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Wealthy Belle (Gross) Dice. She also was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Park, on June 2, 1981.

Surviving are two sons, Carl Park, Winchester, Va., and John Park, Denver, Colo.; three daughters, Charlotte Park, Horseshoe Run, W.Va., Jessie Moore, Weirton, W.Va., and Virginia Jo Vallillo, with whom she resided; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Dice, Oak Ridge, Tenn.; and a sister, Jessie Brandeau, Mechanicville, N.Y.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, on Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Ruth S. Kershner officiating.

Interment will be in Hyndman cemetery.

RAYMOND D. PENSYL
HYNDMAN, Pa. - Raymond Ditmar Pensyl, 82, of Church Street, Hyndman, died Saturday, April 25, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born May 16, 1915, in Hyndman, he was the son of the late William Stanley and Minnie Belle (Aberle) Pensyl. He also was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Joshua Hosselrode.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, L. Gertrude (DeVore) Pensyl; three sons, Stanley R. and wife, Joyce (Shaffer) Pensyl, K. Mervin and wife, Jane (Stouffer) Pensyl, and Lynn E. and wife, Carle (Waugerman) Pensyl; five grandchildren, Thea Hosselrode and husband, Marvin, Matthew Pensyl, Ryan Pensyl, Tyler Pensyl and Jill Clites and husband, Kevin; two great-grandchildren, Brandon and Jeffrey Hosselrode; a sister, Rachel Grace Logsdon, Hyndman; 11 nieces and nephews; and 13 great-nieces and great-nephews.

Mr. Pensyl retired in 1978 with 28 years of employment in the Curing Department at the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company. He previously had been employed for 14 years at the Amcelle Plant of the Celanese Corporation of America.

He was a member of Hyndman 1st United Church of Christ, the United Rubber Workers of America and was a 50-year member of the Hyndman Lodge #589, F. and A.M. He was an Associate Scout Leader with Hyndman Boy Scout Troop #60 and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Student Pastor Steven L. Craft and the Rev. Ruth S. Kershner officiating. Interment will be in the Hyndman cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Clark Logsdon, Robert Miller Jr., Ryan Pensyl, Marvin Hosselrode, Kevin Clites and Matthew Pennsyl.

A Masonic Funeral Service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 8 p.m.

Memorials may be sent to the Hyndman 1st United Church of Christ, Hyndman, PA 15545.
